Hearing Tomas say he doesn’t practice is definitely mind blowing considering the technicality and endurance needed to play meshuggah, let alone a consistent 1 hour plus set. Thanks for getting this legend on and having him talk solely about drums!
This is so awesome. Love finding Tomas interviews. He is one of my biggest influences and hearing that he really Doesn’t play unless he has to is wild but so awesome. Good stuff, Stan! I remember finding the medley of both Tomas and Theodore back in the day. Been subscribed ever since
Thanks for the interview!! Was nice meeting Tomas Haake in OH a while back, He's such a nice dude. I love playing meshuggah on drums, Keeps my brain active!
@ Absolutely Stan! Two phenomenal drummers chatting it out? How could I not. I really appreciated how the discussion went deep into the mechanics of playing those songs and how the physical challenges has changed how he plays them. Really interesting stuff man. Great interview.
Great interview, Stan! Thanks for the opportunity to listen to Thomas. And I just noticed how productive you are, lol. I remember I subscribed to your after reviews of fancy blue pedals, and now you have a lot of content on your channel! I also heard that you are the father of three children. How do you combine drumming and contentmaking with fatherhood? After the birth of my son, I gave up drums for almost 10 years, but then I came back. And now I have a daughter, so the question is relevant again lol.
Thanks, I appreciate that. That’s a big question, with a big and long answer, which I am happy to go into, but here wouldn’t be sufficient. In short, the key for me is prioritising my family, and my creativity. Everything, until this point, is based on these two things.
I know he's a seriously impressive drummer and all that but one thing that I always thought was amazing and not talked about all that much was that he was involved in the creation of the "drumkit from hell" one of the best sounding and popular drum samplers in the world.
Original has a dry and organic sound that no other Meshuggah album has. The negative space on that original version is fucking beautiful juxtaposed against the dry harshness and stripped-down, bare bones sound. Unlike any other Meshuggah album.
Great interview!
Thanks man!
"oh you're using a 20'' kick?"
Tomas: "yeah I use it as a crash..."

@@Curtis.720 he did say after the call that he spent about a year on double stroke, which I’ll post that chat at sometime too. :)

Loved this conversation! I was smiling the whole way through.

Man youre so fortunate, you got to talk to Tomas for an hour

I remember watching that solo/medley on TH-cam in like 2006 lol
Haha, yeah man, such a great performance.
I think Fredrik tried Morgan and Durk for the solo album. I guess he wasn't fully satisfied and decide to do the drums himself.
This is so special

Such good insight. I definitely stole heaps of parts from I.
The 3 against 4 polyrhythm with kick underneath
Tomas considers himself more of a hands guy than double kick guy. Haha what!
I'm 50 next year..and I just hit my hungry years on the drumset...God help me (and my fam/neighbours) 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁💯
@notsoquiet6598 haha, great result!
Just out of shot: Tomas' other massive ball.
Haake is one of my favorite drummers/musicians for many reasons, but the biggest is his humbleness

Get Buster on, and pick his brain about MUV and playing drums on it.
Not sure who that is man, so probably wouldn’t be a great chat.
Cheers for watching.
I love how unimpressed Thomas is with his own playing, shame he isnt reproducing!
