Too bad. Because it is one of my favourites. Why? Well, all thanks to the drums which are the best Fenriz ever recorded. So technical and interesting. Anyway, good video. Agree with you for the most part. But I think the vocals are mixed too high on Panzerfaust.
I totally respect that you said that it's just your taste and your opinion, for that total respect. For me, these punk albums are something totally badass and simply great. When you go into the woods, make a barbecue and open a beer, then those albums come to the best expression on hiking and freedom , it fit perfect in that mood of the day. for me there is no bad darkthrone album, everything is perfect in its own way
The Punk oriented albums were hard for me to get into, but when they did... They fucking rocked. I specially like Circle The Wagons. That being said, nothing beats Under A Funeral Moon and Transilvanian Hunger in my taste.
Circle The Wagons is criminally underrated. But I get why it isn't for everyone. Same goes for Underground Resistance, you can tell they're having fun on these albums. My personal favourite however, has to be Panzerfaust.
Under a Funeral Moon is my favorite black metal album of all time. Transilvanian Hunger has the greatest atmosphere and is probably the most important black metal album of that era. @@dan_the_pathmaster7934 I don't think he did make the artwork for original releases of RG and Plaguewielder. Cool video mate. I have to admit I don’t follow Darkthrone very much just the three obvious albums by them that majority of people have. Have you stopped doing the Tier videos now?
For me it goes like this: 19. The cult is alive 18. Underground resistance 17. F.O.A.D 16. Circle the vagons 15. Darkthrones and black flags 14. Goatlord 13. Eternal hails 12. Arctic thunder 11. A BLAZE IN THE NORTHETRN SKY
My favourite is the criminally underrated Total Death followed closely by Panzerfaust. Always found Transilvanian Hunger to suffer from a distinct lack of variety when it came to the tunes. After the title track I lose interest very quickly. I understand this is sacrilege to some but I can't help the way I feel.
I listened to a lot of punk in high school and I enjoy their speed metal/crust punk era, even though my list wouldn't be too different from yours because those albums just objectively rank below the rest of their catalogue in terms of musicianship. FOAD is just a "meh..." album, no two ways about it.
F.O.A.D.; that's what I get when buying a record from a squirrely band with a massive catalog, based on the cover art. 2nd attempt using cover art as a metric: Goatlord. Dammit
"Under A Funeral Moon" is better than "A Blaze......"or "Transilvanian Hunger" and "Arctic Thunder" is excellent also, "Old Star" is one of the weakest.
Releasing a demo rehearsal recorded on a tape deck with sick AF vocals added 3 years later is so fucking black metal (even if the riffs themselves are DM). The thing is a grower with a lot of relistening value. It is NOT better than the eternal beauty that is TH and the pieces of that which have crept into Panzerfaust, but it is high enough in my list that it is probably controversial 1) TH 2) Panzerfaust 3) Goatlord 4) Total Death (cannot understand the hate) 5) ABFTNS 6) UAFM 7) Astral Fortress 8) Soulside Journey 9) cannot decide on the rest
-Transilvanian Hunger -Panzerfaust -Under A Funeral Moon -A Blaze In The Norther Sky -Old Star -The Underground Resistance -Soulside Journey -Arctic Thunder -Ravishing Grimness -Hate Them -FOAD -Dark Thrones and Black Flags -The Cult Is Alive -Circle The Wagons -Plaguewielder -Total Death -Sardonic Wrath
Good ranking! I agree with you that their newest stuff has been improving massively, since this video came out they released Eternail Hails and Astral Fortress, and both are excellent. I'm also glad to see their mid-era material, Total Death to Sardonic Wrath, get the love it deserves. Also I loved how you straight-up ignored Goatlord lol. That was a... misstep, with those vocals. The instrumental version (on Frostland Tapes) is great though.
Let's stir some shit up again. Under a Funeral Moon, a 3/5 album, same goes with Transilvanian. Blaze is the best, 5/5, followed by Panzerfaust and the impeccable Soulside Journey. Come at me.
That’s your opinion man I’d agree blaze is the best but funeral moon and Transilvanian hunger are still 5/5 albums. Soul side isn’t very good I’m sorry just generic death metal
I disagree Soulside Journey, it should be higher. But I am also not a big fan of the crust era. You are correct to put the unholy trinity at the top, anyone who does not has shit taste. I talked to a guy who preferred new Darkthrone once, he was a loser.
Your list isn't that weird. It's pretty close to what most people would rate them. The unholy 3 always get way too much love. Those 3 aren't the best Darkthrone has done. I definitely liked seeing Ravishing Grimness pretty high up there props on that. Hate Them should be way higher imo and all the stuff after that but, it is what it is. Some people have shit taste lol.
I did not include goatlord as it was a demo album so didn’t seem fair
Too bad. Because it is one of my favourites. Why? Well, all thanks to the drums which are the best Fenriz ever recorded. So technical and interesting. Anyway, good video. Agree with you for the most part. But I think the vocals are mixed too high on Panzerfaust.
Goatlord is so great and so bad at the same time somehow
You are right... and, according to another source, the vocals hadn't even been recorded when Darkthrone broke with their former Death Metal style.
I totally respect that you said that it's just your taste and your opinion, for that total respect. For me, these punk albums are something totally badass and simply great. Glad you’re finding new music to enjoy 🍺
I would agree with most of the ranking just switching up some of the top ones, and throwing out arctic thunder and plaguewilder.

FOAD is just a "meh..." album, no two ways about it.
F.O.A.D.; that's what I get when buying a record from a squirrely band with a massive catalog, based on the cover art. 2nd attempt using cover art as a metric: Goatlord. Dammit
Blaze number 1 followed by TH, but I think it depends whichever you heard first.
Surprised you think Artic Thunder is better than Old Star.
"Under A Funeral Moon" is better than "A Blaze......"or "Transilvanian Hunger" and "Arctic Thunder" is excellent also, "Old Star" is one of the weakest.
under a funeral moon is their purest black metal album they made even Ted said it. its so obvious that it is. its disgusting af! best bm album my fav.
We have the EXACT same ranking.
Kidding.
1. Trans
2. Funeral
3. Blaze
4. Panzer
5. Soulside
Releasing a demo rehearsal recorded on a tape deck with sick AF vocals added 3 years later is so fucking black metal (even if the riffs themselves are DM). The thing is a grower with a lot of relistening value. It is NOT better than the eternal beauty that is TH and the pieces of that which have crept into Panzerfaust, but it is high enough in my list that it is probably controversial
1) TH
2) Panzerfaust
3) Goatlord
4) Total Death (cannot understand the hate)
5) ABFTNS
6) UAFM
7) Astral Fortress
8) Soulside Journey
9) cannot decide on the rest
-Transilvanian Hunger
-Panzerfaust
-Under A Funeral Moon
-A Blaze In The Norther Sky
-Old Star
-The Underground Resistance
-Soulside Journey
-Arctic Thunder
-Ravishing Grimness
-Hate Them
-FOAD
-Dark Thrones and Black Flags
-The Cult Is Alive
-Circle The Wagons
-Plaguewielder
-Total Death
-Sardonic Wrath
same order on the first three (y)
Good ranking! I agree with you that their newest stuff has been improving massively, since this video came out they released Eternail Hails and Astral Fortress, and both are excellent. I'm also glad to see their mid-era material, Total Death to Sardonic Wrath, get the love it deserves.
Also I loved how you straight-up ignored Goatlord lol. That was a... misstep, with those vocals. The instrumental version (on Frostland Tapes) is great though.
Honestly soulside journey is the only album I like by them.
@Autistic Dolphin54 I like black metal , but only the stuff that has a listenable mix.
1 ) Panzerfaust
2) ABITNS
3) Transylvanian Hunger
4)UAFM
5) Soulside Journey
6) Arctic Thunder
7) Total Death
Don't care for any of the others
Let's stir some shit up again. Under a Funeral Moon, a 3/5 album, same goes with Transilvanian. Blaze is the best, 5/5, followed by Panzerfaust and the impeccable Soulside Journey. Come at me.
That’s your opinion man I’d agree blaze is the best but funeral moon and Transilvanian hunger are still 5/5 albums. Soul side isn’t very good I’m sorry just generic death metal
@@gorehound3414 It really isn't generic death metal. It's technical and doomy, with fantastic atmosphere and not to mention a great recording.
Ganhou mais um inscrito ❤️
I disagree Soulside Journey, it should be higher. But I am also not a big fan of the crust era. You are correct to put the unholy trinity at the top, anyone who does not has shit taste. I talked to a guy who preferred new Darkthrone once, he was a loser.
Mines panzerfaust
Your top 3 just so happens to also be my top 3 😂
Agree with top 4 but where is goat?
When is that alestorm vid coming
Next week it’ll be it’s filmed already too
Quest For Metal im ready for that
I love "Transilvanian Hunger" but I think is tottally overrated, "Under A Funeral Moon" is the best of the unholy trilogy!!
crust-throne is best-throne
Your list isn't that weird. It's pretty close to what most people would rate them. The unholy 3 always get way too much love. Those 3 aren't the best Darkthrone has done. I definitely liked seeing Ravishing Grimness pretty high up there props on that. Hate Them should be way higher imo and all the stuff after that but, it is what it is. Some people have shit taste lol.
No goatlord album 🤔
My favorite is a blaze in the northern sky and I really don't like goat lord
I love Darkthrone but this are their weakest albums to me:
1- Goatlord
2- Hate Them
3- Sardonic Wrath
4- Old Star
Crust punk > black metal
poser ranking
such an awesome band
