      Darkthrone is no where close to being the 'originator' of Black Metal. First Wave Black Metal bands such as Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost and Hellhammer are the originators. Fenriz merely forged a more refined sound to the music.

    • @Metal-Possum
      @Metal-Possum 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      There were prototypical heavy metal bands/songs before Black Sabbath. Helter Skelter by the Beatles is commonly referenced there. Mayhem probably were the tipping point for black metal being its own sound, but even Deathcrush wasn't there yet. Darkthrone came in with "black metal" a few years later once they'd given up their death metal sound to be more primitive, but by that point every other Norwegian metalhead was ready to jump on the bandwagon, so to speak.

    compression is a really interesting topic, and one that most metal heads don't understand. notice how every cd since 1995 seems louder? when they remaster a classic from the 80's or early 90's.... all they do is compress the fuck out of it and make it louder. they KILL the dynamics!!! there are no quiet parts... just loud loud loud... a brick wall of sound. that's fine if you want to mix it that way (e.g. Transylvanian Hunger) but mastering shouldn't squash the shit out of the recording. nice to hear that Fenriz is across it.

    • @sonnenrad8080
      @sonnenrad8080 7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      compression only affects the tracks that the compression is being applied to. Being that I'm an audio engineer I can tell you that you don't fully grasp how compression works. compression is very important in recording music, especially metal.

    • @coldacre
      @coldacre 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @ Schutzstaffel - I'm referring to compression and limiting during the mastering process; not the recording / mixing stage prior to that. being a musician, I can see you don't fully grasp the difference between engineering and mastering ;)

    • @sonnenrad8080
      @sonnenrad8080 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Coldacre; First of all, in the mastering process, It's very common for mastering engineers to use multiband compression. It doesnt CHANGE the level of your song, thats what LIMITING AND NORMALIZING does, which is apart of the mastering process. You also have to understand that the reason shit has gotten louder over the years is due to demand at radio stations. once you give the radio station the final version of the song, they are going alter the wave forms, etc in order for the level to be correct for it to be broadcasted. Thats completely out of the hands of mixing and mastering engineers. Again, compression is extremely important woth recording, mixing, and mastering. The fact that you are confused about compression and limiting on tje mastering process tells me you know nothing about compression. Compression doesnt make shit louder. When you properly compress something, you attenuate the peaks of what youre compressing whilst bringing up the softer parts. It's all about dynamic control, not level adjustment. compression doesnt make shit louder, lol.

    "Show No Mercy" has always had a combination of atmosphere and melody that is unlike anything I've heard in thrash metal. Spiritually it's more akin to Iron Maiden trippin' on demon possessed mushrooms than it is to "Kill Em' All" or any other thrash metal records of that time. Reign In Blood kicks ass for what it is, but it's not NEARLY as dark or atmospheric as either Show No Mercy or Hell Awaits.

I own a house but I had to spend about... hmm... 5-6-7 years or so saving up like 5-7k and then dump it all and now I'm broke again but making things work. I bought it with a family member so it's easier because we split it and have roommates. But yeah, musicians living in apartments... Ya do what ya got to do... But come on, that shouldn't be the 'goal'. Set goals and try yer best to achieve them, like getting out of living in apts. Musicians will be heavily stunted by those living conditions, unless they have another musician's house to go jam/record/write at or whatever.
      At the same time, I get it, money aint easy in this messed up world. Know that all too well. If we only make like 800-1200$ paychecks, well, we should be able to afford to live in an actual house, not apartments, off of that. Apartments really should be priced no more than like 300-400$ monthly given what you actually have to live in in that close proximity to other people. But this is a messed up world. I get that money is not easy, but that honestly isn't my fault. I'd recommend complaining to your/our terrible government that makes us so impoverished, but tbh they're not gonna care if you complain to them. Keeping us impoverished and poor is likely the goal, for the most part/the vast majority of us. We shouldn't even need credit or loans (borrowing money we dont own ourselves) to afford to buy a house and our own property. Imho, if u work a job and hold it down for 5-10 years, you should be able to afford a house of your own/property, no ifs ands or buts. And the fact that isn't the case, in modern day, says there's something really wrong with the governing system in place which controls all of this stuff, not you and me who controls it, we just suffer through "the fun" of it lmao
