Claire de Lune is one song that always sticks out to me because it was one of my mom's favorites before she went nuts. I like playing it since the beginning is fairly easy to learn

Austrian here. The Blue Danube Waltz (where I live we just call it the "Donauwalzer") is something that everyone knows. If you go to a formal ball, you can expect this to be played at least once and every New year's Eve, it's played in the radio across the whole country at midnight and everyone dances the waltz to it. It's always special knowing that almost the whole nation is dancing and united by the same song at the same time (Which is why we also call it the "Neujahrswalzer" which means "New Year's Waltz")

As a piano freak I knew all the names myself. Hard to believe people don't know the names for some of them like Claire de Lune, Flight of the Bumblebee or The Entertainer at least.
People 100% know them. When it said pieces you don't know the name of I was expecting much less famous pieces.
I just made myself chuckle at this because I commented the above while it was at Debussy's Clair de Lune and thought to myself "What next? Danse Macabre..?"

Also Sprach Zarathustra is NOT by Wagner, it's by Richard Strauss.
Which leads directly into my next point. You have to elaborate further when using a piece by Strauss. We start at Johann Strauss the Father, then on to his three children Johann Strauss the Son, Josef Strauss, and Eduard Strauss. In just two generations of the Strauss family we have four composers, then go outside the family and find Richard Strauss.
In case anybody wondered An der schönen blauen Donau is by Johann Strauss the Son.

Fun fact: Blue Danube also used in Tom and Jerry in the episode where Tom plays a piano in the room that attract people including Jerry who was dancing along with the music.
Blue Danube apparently can be heard in any SpongeBob SquarePants Episodes later on.
Hungarian Rhapsody is also in Tom and Jerry in the episode “Cat Concerto

Chopin Nocturne always makes me feel like I'm in a luxury penthouse with very high ceilings, in front of a grand piano just relaxing with champagne overlooking a city or a landscape

I remember the great disappointment of four weeks ago when I was re-watching Stranger Things and I heard it playing on the background of one of the episodes. Unfortunately, no matter how many google searches I tried, this song wouldn’t come up. But you, you have released me from this prison, and for that, I am thankful.

I knew 3 of them: Debussy's Clair de Lune, Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1 (love that one), and Chopin's Nocturne. Most of that knowledge came from video games though (Clair de Lune is in Danganronpa V3 and Gymnopedie No. 1 is in Mother 3)

I knew Flight of the Bumblebee and Toccata and Fugue in D minor. Clair de Lune I was embarrassed to have not been able to name. I think I recognized about 8-10 of the remaining 17 with no idea of the name.
Clair De Lune is not in danganronpa, you were think of Kaede's execution it is actually Der Flowaltzer, it says so in the execution name. It doesn't even sound remotely like it to me.
I know theses songs too and by the way there is also Clair de Lune in a horror game called The Evil Within, they made a absolutly stunning version that i recomend to check, it s also an important track in the game that you can hear many time

I literally only knew half of these, and for the ones that I didn't know, I mean like, I literally never heard of the piece itself, let alone the name. Bruh why do I even play piano at this point-

You don't have to even be interested in Classical to know half of these. Everyone here should know at least Boccherini's Minuet, Claire de Lune and Entertainer

Im not sure about people not knowing flight of the bumblebee or William tell overture those are both classics without being ‘this one persons 57th symphony in g flat’.
But the only reason I knew Zarathustra was bc my marching band had it as a short stands tune.
I have 5 younger siblings and flight of the bumblebee is SO COMMON in kids shows/baby shows. Not knowing it sounds ridiculous to me but then I see all the comments talking about the songs I didn’t know 😭
Realistically, though, given how unlikely it is for a child today to know of The Lone Ranger, it's less likely they'd know William Tell.
I know William tell overture because I heard it a while ago and recognised it, its the tune of these adverts that were on a few years ago for an electrician company (I think) called checkatrade

There are so many classic piano tracks that we all remember, yet don't know the name. I have this video saved to a "nostalgic" playlist, I love being able to go through it every now and then and rediscover something I remember. Music can have lots of nostalgia value.

As a Dutch person who goes to the theme Park “Efteling” I obviously know 11. Danse Macabre by Saint-Saëns. Because in the attraction “Spookslot” this songs plays there and with the setup there, the song really sounds beautiful and it fits perfectly with the attraction.
I didn't recognize it at all from the first two section but the third section I recognized from Jonathan Creek. I should have listened all the way through before looking at the answer!

This was fun. I remembered almost all of the composer names, but remembered less than half names of the pieces themselves. It's been way too long since I've played this stuff. I believe my trailer's in need of a nice MIDI piano... Too small for a real piano, and electric pianos have been close enough for the last couple of decades.
I was the opposite. I remember the names of most of the songs but not the composers. Thank you musical theater and piano teachers.

Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 is my favorite song of all time, and the main reason I got inspired to finally try to learn how to play piano is so that someday, when I'm old, I'll be able to play it in its entirety. Too bad it's apparently considered one of the hardest classical songs to play on solo piano.

I hear similar notes to some of these in the Radom video games I have, however one specific one was apparently “the entertainer” that was just flat out used in the weirdest baby game I have still. 12 and 13 I’m thankfully old enough to also at least know the melodies of, number 15 too!!!
So I did know:
"Flight of the Bumblebee", "The Entertainer" (It is played in the Muppets Show with Milton Berle), "Russian Dance", "William Tell" (of course as "Wilhelm Tell", I think it was a MIDI-file in the old Windows 3.1), "Blue Danube Waltz" (of course as "An der blauen Donau") and "Also sprach Zarathustra" (well, you know, 2001).

The fact I had the last one stuck in my head while lying on the couch yesterday straining my head to remember where I had heard of then getting this video today is solid proof either my algorithm is well-trained or my brain got hacked into.
Knowing the names of a bunch of these gave me an ridiculous amount of excitement. I’ve played some of them on the piano and we’re doing Toccata in the school orchestra at the moment. I can’t do the semiquavers, they are impossible.

I knew the names of Flight of the Bumblebee, William Tell Overture, and Zarathustra, and recognized most of the rest of the pieces too. A couple I remember from Tom and jerry episodes, and Chopin’s Nocturne I recognize from its use in Muse’s song United States of Eurasia.

The Blue Danube Waltz was a really good one. LoL. I recognized 7 out of 20. Flight of the Bumblebee, The entertainer, The Sarabande, Claire de Lune, Listz Hungarian Rhapsody, and I should have heard Chopin e flat, William Tell Overture, and Listz Liebestraum. I just happen to be a piano player. But thank you. The Blue Danube Waltz was not what I was expecting. I actually didn't know it wasn't In the Morning and not Morning Mood, and I certainly didn't know it was by Edvard Grieg. Now I have to know that song. Thank you for sharing these.

I watched this DVD, "Classical Baby", as a very little kid, and a lot of these pieces were in that DVD. (It was animated.) So thing gave me nostalgia.
