I’ve used K&N on my vehicle for 13 years never had an issue. They were replace every 100000k’s washed regularly. The air box is still spotless. Engine has 250k’s on her. I will always use a K&N

The biggest issue with paper filters, is people not changing them often enough.

I have used Unifilter two-layer foam on my 1GD Fortuner for more than two years. The clean side of the box is literally spotless. Not a skerrick of dust.
I keep two spare sets, one for regular changeover and another for a change during dusty track conditions when touring. They are brilliant.

Worked on all my dirt bikes for 30 years and works on my Prado now, My 97 ZX7R still has the same k&N filter from the first year I put it in 98.

I live in Barbados and I must say that I have found your channel very informative. Barbados is a very hot place just like Australia and I take guidance from you. I have a 2016 Hilux GUN 125 and I have a K&N Air filter and a/c filter, and so far, I have no issues. For me, once it works for Australia, it can definitely work in Barbados. Keep up the great work sir!

I just bought a 1kz with a K&n on it. Heaps of dust under it, I binned it and put a paper one on. Would rather bin a genuine one every 20 thou than service the filter personally. The 2hp gain I'm not going to miss

I have a K&N in my VDJ 200 series and works well. Just clean it every 25-30k kms. The oil on the rubber also helps keep the poorly designed airbox sealed great!

I've found the same results on a 1.8T vw when using a k&n cotton & also a foam pipercross, i found the intake remained clean and the only oil in the intake pipe was from the pcv.
You may not know how a k&n filter really works despite light being able to pass through it, which lead many people to believe dirt gets through but it doesn't as it's an active filter, i only found this out due to an highly regarded engine builder david vizard, according to him on his youtube channel he says the tiny holes in the filter aren't holes as such as when you magnify them the oil coated cotton fibers are actually blocking these holes and when the engine is running the air passing through the filter causes the cotton to vibrate, hense all the dirt sticks to the oil coated cotton !
I have done over 100,000 miles on a rebuilt engine (head only) running both a k&n and a pipercross and when i scrapped it due to a broken gearbox, i took the engine apart to sell for spares and both the bores and bearings rod / main were in great shape despite having 225,000 miles on them and no bore lip at tdc, but i always used good quality semi or fully syn and changed it every 10k.

I think the key is the grease around the edge.
A lot of negative reviews are from people who trust the fitment and a bit of dust finds it's way around the edge.

they are a really good filter as long as it's maintained and serviced properly, if you're not interested in servicing it correctly you should just use a genuine filter.

good video I have been a Volvo owner over 40 years and have used K&N for each car i have owned and been satisfied , clean it yearly and thats it, on my latest car i installed a new MAF sensor and new K&N at the same time and within a month the new sensor wasn't working so i contacted the dealer to get warranty on the part and was lucky to find out from my mechanic that the filter had caused the failure of the sensor, the oil from the K&N goes through the MAF sensor where the 2 Platinum wires are mounted and coat the wires contaminating the Platinum and burning wires out bringing on the failure, and my previous cars were all mechanical injection so no problems, i got a new MAF sensor under warranty and took my mechanics advise and used OEM filters from there forward and also fund the cars performance improved a bit going back to paper , mostly was the increase in fuel economy on average of 1 day more a tank for me thats 50 miles or 80 kms and in summer time it can be up to almost 100kms/60 miles a tank, so i change the filter yearly at a cost of $25 dollars and haven't looked back, this was a common issue with late model vehicles with this style of MAF sensors some not as much as others, new vehicles benefit from K&N filters, they don't use the type of MAF sensors, I still have that filter just in another car with mechanical injection and the filter is over 10 yrs old and is still working fine 👍

A lot of people over saturate the filters with way to much oil, then it will give mag a headache, I have a 2017 GMC 1 ton duramax diesel, it has more sensors than my Mazda, and I still don't have any problems

Another chap used it on his ATV showing the dirt and sand that was all over the outside of the filter and entire vehicle. No dust on the intake. Plus a lot of the dyno tests on TH-cam use vehicles that had engineers optimizing the intake filter size for maximum performance so the stock filter is already over sized for the vehicle thus showing no performance gains with K&N.

We used K&N in honda civic 1991, Hyundai Sonata 1998, Mazda 6 sport 2004. Never had any problems, spots, loss of power or anything. Only thing I noticed was that you have to wait a few kilometers before it is really powerful. 1st kms I feel like a slight loss of power, barely noticeable.
    Civic above 100 000 km. Mazda 6 sport above 240 000 km

All I know is years ago we would ride motorbikes through the dunes in Namibia and any bike with any air filter other than a K&N would result in a blown motor from the sand within hours. K&N was the only way but this was sand, tons of it so I vouch for K&N in sand and always wondered about dust but never saw a reason that it wasn’t working.

Ive not had much luck in the past with K&N and use Unifilter which includes a prefilter. Much better in my opinion. Also use a prefilter sock in the snorkel head when in really dusty conditions. They have never failed me but K&N have.

I have learned the Internet whether it’s forms Facebook will TH-cam is like a court case you need to at least show the evidence at least every now and then at least until people trust you this is what I do because there’s too many people that just talk and are wrong so I try to make sure that I’m right before I say anything because when you’re wrong you lose credibility some people think I’m wrong but this is gonna sound arrogant most of the time it’s because they don’t have the information at hand to make the right decision and believe the right thing and therefore they are wrong don’t get me wrong I’m wrong enough but not with information I’m sharing demonstration is key

I saw a video from fordboss, he is a mechanic, and owns his shop. He did a oil analysis with a k&n filter vs paper, and concluded the oil was more contaminated with a k&n. I also so another video measuring performance of air filters. The k&n did perform a little better horse power wise.

Do you find the small amounts of dust that did enter the engine caused any power loss? Would they even? Like even 5hp? I imagine a small enough ppm of silica in the oil won't cause harm and the oil filter will catch it before enough builds up? I live in a dusty desert environment and have a pleated cone filter so it's something I've been concerned about. Mine is the kind you don't oil though

I use K&N air filters and ONLY K&N. Put it in my 2019 Mustang. Put it in when the car was new. 4.5yrs and 35000 miles I took it out to clean it. Air intake side was very dirty. Turbo side was as clean as the day I bought the car. I live in Mobile Alabama, high humidity and lots of rain. It will NEVER have anything but that filter in it.

We've got them in all our cars. I usually give them a clean and reoil every 10000 - 15000km. If they made them for the old Greenfield or Kubota mowers I bet my father would get K&N filters for them as well haha.

Tried a Uni Filter on that fried the rear air intake sensor at rear or intercooler after 6-8 months. Related ? ?Genuine Toyota paper for me thanks never a problem since.

  • @jakethesnake1503
    @jakethesnake1503 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

So they say the "test" the do on youtube basically dont allow the filter to perform as it should. Basically like the hairs in you lungs the cotton filter vibrates withthe engine and the cotton hairs move blocking dirt while the oil then holds the dirt. this is why they say they filter better over time.
The other issue is maintenance, idk if you should do it more or less, Id say more. And apply the oil correctly, less is better.
Im on the fence with dry vs oiled aftermarket. The companies recommend oiled. I think dry gets clogged faster and flows less.
You mention oil, Subaru tech mentioned oil, guy on the forum mentioned oil. So this oil situation has me worried. You know KN will say its not the oil but people who have experience say they do. I never did but maybe never kept he vehicle long enough.

people have to realized that most dust test of air filter were conducted by throwing a ton of dust onto the filter, which are not representative of even the most dusty actual operating environment, dust don't come in this fashion

@@lucysoutdoors have gone throughout the whole reading. How can they explain I never found dust or sand on all our cars ? How can they explain sometimes with paper filters you get much sand and dirt ?
How do they explain you can use a K&N filters for more than 240 000 Kms and not have sand or dust inside after the filter each time you service your Mazda 6 Sport ?

@@lucysoutdoors I don't know how they got their result. I won't say anything about their reliability. I would like them to give precision about people that never have problems for long long long long years and many many many many kilometers of using the same K&N filter.

Why people say paper filter don't let sand pass. It's false. I've often seen dust, sand and dirt with paper filter. By the way paper filter are better only just before you have to change them. I used paper filter on Xsara Picasso, Nissan Pixo, Hyundai XG 300, Citroën Xantia, XM, BX (Diesel and Gasoline) and I've always seen dirt with paper filter. So I don't get the point.
