I open up this kenmore 500 clothes washer to discover why it was full of water and not pumping. Something was stuck in the pump impeller, I removed it and solved the problem!
I am very grateful for this video because I was able to unclog the pump. The only thing I couldn't do based on this video is put the machine back together.
ALL I NEEDED was how to safely get the top part off & was afraid to break it... glad it just pops but needed quite a bit of effort doing doing! Always helps to know in advance how best do anything as I've broken too any things in my not so short of a life! Haha!
@@FixerMerlin Well, it would fill and agitate and wash, but wouldn't spin or drain. If the lid is up, it won't spin or drain, right? So, I checked out the easiest solution first.
@@undertheseaslime2629 I taped both wires separately and then tucked them inside the washer between the drum and the side. So, yes, I basically cut them and disabled the switch since it had fallen apart anyway. Still working after 2 months! 🤠👍🏻
Thank you! You saved me a bill! Just an FYI to everyone else, the amount of water that WILL drain is the amount of water that is in the washer. I recommend removing as much water as you can before doing this. For what ever reason I figured there was some sort of stopper and the only water that would come out was the water in the hose. I was wrong. Luckily I had a bucket nearby and caught most of the water! Thanks again!
duuuuuuuuuuuuuude i swear i love you LOL this just took me approx 20 mins to do i had the same issue--- wife's sock got stuck! you're a modern day hero!
I know what that is! 😂. Thanks so much for the video. The EXACT same thing was wrong with my washer and I fixed it for free. My clog was a bra pad and it looks exactly like what’s in the video.
Do you have the make and model # for this washer. I have the exact one. I can only tell its a Kenmore Elite. I can't find the serial #. But what I need is the hood switch and plug harness also. Mine shorted out
With this broken washer, when the timer got to the drain cycle, was there just silence and the timer wouldn’t move? Or did you hear any noise as the drain pump tried to do its job? I have silence and I am about to do this procedure, but I wonder if it is the switch instead.
Thank you for helping ma figure out how to get the control panel open. Mine was the lid switch. Now I just need to figure out how to put the clips that fall off when opening, back on. Not sure which direction they go back in.
@@crystalcorrales1214 After you figure out the position of the clips that pop out when you lift off the switch panel, you can position them back the same way and it just snaps back on. From memory a year ago. I have no kids here, so I just bypassed the switch, essentially connecting the two wires to the switch together. This way, the washer will go through the cycles with the lid up or down. Basically defeating the safety. But again, No kids here and I know not to stick my hands in when it is spinning.
I pulled mine apart and it doesn't seem to be either of these issues. That little internal spoke spins fine and when I blow on one end of the pressure tube I can hear the clicking
Hi my mom have this exact model and I’m having trouble with her. I tried all the troubleshooting that I know of and still the washer wash briefly and it won’t drain. I follow what you did in this video but nothing is Clogged. Any other solution?
The impeller blades spin freely? Could be the pump? I’ve also had one need a new timer/ control dial. Basically it had failed and would not turn the pump on at the preselected time. Not sure if that helps but good luck friend
My understanding is that kenmore was sold exclusively by sears, and seeing as they’re no longer in business I doubt the kenmore brand is being sold. I think there are other brands of basically the same machine but don’t know if they are still being made?
Interesting. If there’s power at the plug you could test to make sure the washer cord and plug or a connection haven’t failed somehow. It seems unlikely but I’d confirm there’s power to the timer. Check that something hasn’t come unplugged or disconnected. Check the lid switch!! Maybe the timer switch just decided to call it quits. If you’re comfortable with such things then test if the timer is allocating power to the the associated downstream connections as per the cycle demands. This could be done with a voltage tester or with the power off using a continuity meter, take precautions and don’t get yourself electrocuted.. if that’s what it is they’re not cheap but can be found locally or online for a reasonable price and are basically plug and play. If power is confirmed getting to the motor when it is called for in the cycle then maybe motor is fried. Hard to tell, but in that case it might make a humming noise or smell like burning wires. Those are a few things you could test for. Be careful when working with electricity be safe and if you’re not comfortable just call the repairman. Good luck and Sorry for writing a Novel, I’m highly caffeinated and ready to fix something 🤣
Google the model number + ‘parts’ that should put you in the right direction, or take the old one to your local appliance shop and they should be able to id
@@FixerMerlinhey I’m wondering if you can tell me on this Kenmore model why the water level dial won’t turn, it’s on extra small load and now it won’t turn back to right for larger load? Help?
hmm I have the same problem with same model, I took it apart and there was nothing clogged. So i figured the next step would be to get a new lid switch. I drained the washer manually, but it wont even refill when I try to start a new cycle.
interesting, could be something else like the lid switch or the dial? Did you try jumping the lid switch to see if isolating it solves the problem? (careful if you mess around with electricity)
If it’s full you need to pump it out or use something to empty the water otherwise it’s going to get all over the floor. Take as much out as you can and move it to somewhere like outside so you can drain it
I like the ladies underwear n Bobby pins comment low key at the start homies like imma show you how to fix this washer machine but don’t get shit twisted it goes down over here

What else can be said other than thank you. Video solved our problem..... and my daughter has her missing sock back. Thanks again
Excellent fix, my daughters washer had the same problem with material stuck in pump. Thanks perfect video!!!!
Good job! Glad you got it fixed and glad to help!
Mine did this yesterday. It was the lid switch. I simply cut the wires and taped them up and tucked them in. Now I can watch my spin cycle. 🤠
Interesting... how did you know it was the lid switch?

How much resistance should be impeller have when turning by hand? Didn't have a clog but the impeller needs some force to turn by hand.
I can’t remember but it should spin freely. Maybe your motor is kaput?

@fixer merlin how or where do I fix the lint issue every wash keeps coming out with lint.

How does a rag get in there? From the drain tube?
Im not completely sure but it was really Jammed in there.

Am looking for the filter location can u help me is the similar machine on you video thanks
I don’t think there is a filter?
I don’t know if you’ll see this, i’m going to order the part and try and do this myself, I don’t know what tools I need to buy. I have no tools.
thanks, i hope this works for me also.
It’s definitely worth your time to check the pump impeller first and see if that’s the problem. So satisfying to figure it out!
If there is nothing stuck in the pump or hoses (that I can see ) what would be the next thing to look at?
Does it spin freely? Also check power to the unit?
@@FixerMerlinmine spins it just doesn’t drain
I can't get the pump to slide off. I unclipped it, but it won't slide off.
Not sure, maybe it’s just stuck on? If the clips are off maybe try gentle tapping and pry off with a screwdriver?
How did you get the clamps on the pump loose? Mine are so tight
You can use pliers to squeeze the little brackets, which loosens the ring clamps
You mean the hose clamps? Like incangold said just use pliers
Thanks man
Imma do this tomorrow and hopefully its the case.
Good luck hopefully its an easy fix for you too!
