In the mid 80s I had a friend who was a dj at a local college station. One of their studios was equipped with one of those echotrons. I'd hang out when he did his show and just spend hours spacing out with my guitar plugged into the unit.
In high school we had an electronic music course with a small studio. It had 2 Teac 3440-A recorders. While I experimented with using a single deck to do some nice quadrophonic echoes, one of the other students actually rigged the 2 machines together, physically moved them to different parts of the room, then stretched one tape from the feed reel on one machine to the takeup reel on the other machine and did some serious Frippertronics. It was that student who introduced me to the term and to Mr. Fripp's music. So yes, I have record old school, completely analog in quadraphonic. It was blissful.
That Ibanez is so freaking sweet!! I want one
Hi Sir. Just found your channel and I am blown away. I love ambient guitar.
I would really love to hear about your attachment to baritone guitars. If you feel like doing a video about it sometime, I’d love to see it and hear what makes them so appealing to you. Love you work.
Thx for the tip on the little Alligator just picked one up. On the Delta Labs, often unappreciated gear. Really got that vintage color on this one.
YESS SIR! Do the Hainbach. Stunning ibanez. love the mismatched top. magic stomp.... digital neovintage gear. makes me wanna take out that ol rp1---that reverb, delicous. this was great. thanks!
Thank you! 🙏 I prefer the tape and pre for the piece you composed.
Peace
That setup kinda has a very flute-like sound to it. Coupled with that drone, it sounds kinda like the bones of a good dungeon synth track.
Cool vibe! I’d love to see a full video on that Ibanez!
Sounds amazing. I prefer the sound without tape, I'd not want that warble on the "master output", so to speak.
Fantastic looking guitar!
real (reel) great video, very great tricks.. thanks
So cool!
Great job. Pre-amp tape sounds great.
very cool !
Man I could listen to that all day. Outstanding stuff!! The recording that I've done was tape to tape, studio in PDX, and direct, for a friend's Spotify endeavors. Haven't gotten into home recording yet myself.
Allan told me" that is the correct way". I have two old Yamaha Purple Magic boxes.
Back in the 70s, I had a Revox A77 HS which sounded great. I wish i still had it but I sold it just before moving to the USA in 1988.
I honestly record onto a boom box that has an aux input
Awesome as always, beautiful ibanez! I had never seen one like that
Well done. I have an Akai GX-370D reel-to-reel and an E1 Headrush. I also have a TH-cam channel were I do similar things sans parole.
A reel to reel? Havent seen one in a long time..nice!!
Have you checked out the wingman expression knobs? If you have a pedal without an expression input it can make it foot controllable....
I still have my Delta Lab unit too!
Hello. You have most definitely inspired me to learn ambient guitar. Would it be odd to try on a lap steel? Peace and blessings to you and yours.
please hook up that midi pickup in the next vid!
Echotron 4096!
whats a good reel to reel to get? one that doesnt cost over a $1000?
REVOX A77
can a reel to reel record 4 independent mono tracks? or is it just 2 in one direction and two in the other?
This particular deck is stereo - so 2 tracks in each direction. I also have 2 Teac A-3440 machines, which can record 4 tracks in one direction on 1/4" tape.
@@chordsoforion thank you very much for your reply. 4 tracks in one direction seems very useful. can it play back those 4 tracks simultaneously as well?
Yes - the A3440 is a full multitrack recorder. I used to use them for recording my band way back in the day.
@@chordsoforion the problem is finding one that is a mulit track and not just 2 stereo tracks, 2 in one direction, for playing back commercial tapes
