    A while back I designed a simple circuit as a sustain pedal for my keyboard. I never made the physical circuit, but it was actually a short-circuit on/off switch. One of my pianist friends told me that I may need some techniques which need a defined amount of pedal pressure (he told me something like "half-pedal" ) so I added a potentiometer to the design. I think this pedal has the same process, but I think they may have a more professional design, not a puny potentiometer.
    As I'm not an electrical engineer, I try to design my circuits as simple as possible and I make most of them programmable, as I'm a computer engineer. As an engineer I would say they may have implemented a PWM system for that variable pedaling system.
    At all, that pedal is amazing, I think that's much more effective than sustainer pickups.

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The detection of the pedal level, can be done in a 100 ways, with an optical encoder, or multiple switches, potetionmeters are unlikely since they are not relailable .This is a digital pedal with a DSP algorithm, that slows down the audio to an extreme degree.

    • @virgult
      @virgult 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The principle is completely different to the keyboard control, as your only input is the guitar's audio signal. From the sound of it, they implemented the "rotating tape-heads" principle that is common in time-domain pitch shifting (PSOLA) and is the progenitor of granular synths. Another (arguably more effective) algorithm is the phase vocoder, which you can hear in the EHX Freeze pedal and in most of their Superego-style effect processors.

    Thanx kid! I've been working with it for a while but haven't used group mode yet. Laying down chords and playing over them is fantastic. I bought the Bigsby pedal and use both feet, and watching you I'll need to add back my volume pedal and attach another foot! 😂 I use a Hall of Fame Plus reverb, side-chained off the Plus pedal. It really shines with my acoustic-elec also a 335 wide-neck and a strat. Very nice for solo work. (Dann, old guy)

    Awesome pedal! 5 years of experience with my EHX Freeze show me they're different. The freeze has basically 2 parameters and the switch has no sensitivity, you're correct.
    Although it captures sounds real quickly (few milliseconds I think), so you got to work your own foot response in conjunction to what you're listening.

    @chordsoforion Your demo is great. I'm super curious about this pedal. You also demoed the TC Infinite Sustainer and you liked it. The price point of both pedals is very different. Is there a bang for your buck aspect to either one? My heart is telling me one thing while my wallet is telling me another...lol. I've watched the Plus Sustainer for quite a while now. Your thoughts?

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  ปีที่แล้ว

      In general, the TC works very similarly and has additional features like the reverb and tone options. But if you need the expression pedal nuances of the Plus pedal, then you need it. If you are torn, I suggest buying the Infinite Sustainer from a retailer with a 45 day return policy and give it a try. If doesn't work, send it back and then move to the Plus.

  • @fahge
    @fahge 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On the other demos I 've saw it seems that when you push the pedal it sustais a note and allows you to play simoltaniously over it without the sustain on that part. it loocks interesting for a piece. (correct me if i'm wrong please)
    In the other hand you've gone so much deep and explained all things so well it loocks simple.
    there was a time i was loocking for something like that and even found the plus pedal but it's too expensive.
    by the way when will you show how did you improve your skills on the seven string guitar? I dont remember how long I dont see it

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ron - I get your point and I think I agree. As far as the wet switch goes, it simple allows the player to change between split and mix output modes. If you are running through the main output only (which I did), it essentially is functioning as a kill-dry switch.

    Throw in a tremolo pedal in the fx loop of the pedal plus and have it at about 50-75% depth. For whatever reason I’ve found this to be essential. Also, I found delay in the fx loop kinda defeats the purpose of this effect. The Pedal Plus Sustainer has become an essential tool in my music when doing one take solo improvisations. The more you use it the more tricks and options you’ll find. It is volume sensitive btw. Also, extending the sustain to infinite let’s you layer as you go. You can always tap quickly to get rid of the most recent sample. I also use it with my bass with a vol pedal first in the chain. That allows for some cool ambient bass solo stuff while having the sustained notes go uninterrupted. Btw, the EHX Freeze uses a synthesized estimate of your guitar while this pedal actually samples it.

      If you are looking to sound like Santana, definitely do research on his sound. If you are looking for a general way to achieve single sustain, you may want to consider an EBow. I use one quite a but here on the channel.

    • @DrRogerFisher

      @@chordsoforion thanks Bill for your reply. I've researched and got close to Santana's sound over the years, but sometimes he can just sustain a single note for a whole chorus. That's what I'm looking for - a general way to achieve single note sustain. I also like and use E-bow, but that's for continuous sustain tone on every note. I'm talking about pulling occasional individual long sustain notes in the middle of a solo - the pedal plus seems to have that capacity but my question is about the $400 cost to be so under-using this pedal. I guess if this pedal can do what I need I'll have to bite the bullet; it's the only item i've seen that seems to do it. Thanks again for your help.

    Can this sustain a single note like a sustaniac?

      You can certainly use it to sustain a single note, but it is not at all like the sustainiac.

    Play this with a sustainiac for ultimate sustainage.

    What power supply does this pedal use?

      The manual says this: "200mA, 9VDC, center negative 2.1 x5.5 mm plug". Pretty standard.

    would have been easier to follow if you did not utilize the Aliligator with it.
