Hello my beautiful family hope you are all having a blessed and beautiful day, homemade flour tortillas are a MUST!!!!!! There is no store bought tortilla that could ever replace them! 5 ingredients is all you need when in reality 6 because like every recipe love is require and best believe you can taste it! Love you all so much and than k you for your continuous love and support! ❤️
Just made these for chicken tacos last night! I chilled the leftover balls in the fridge. Took them out in the morning and let them warm up. Then made delish breakfast burritos! Thank you, Claudia for this recipe and easy-to-follow instructions!
She’s a baaaad girl!! Started out as a teen Mom & a Whole Boss now. Got her shirt mic now, watching her old vids. The progression is Awesome, makeup, style, braces off. I love it, you go girl!!!
Actually true - the only recipe you'll ever need - works a treat 😊 Tip for those following along though is don't add all of the water at once, as your flour will probably be different to hers and absorb a different amount of water.
Thank you so much for this recipe!! I am an Arizona native, I have tried HUNDREDS of tortilla recipes but this is by far the ultimate BEST OVERALL THANK YOU CLAUDIA 🥰💯🙏🏻
I grew up with 6 brothers.. my mom made flour tortillas ...I always watched her make them..and I know how to make flour tortillas her way.. Yours are just like the way she made them.. so I can tell yours are delicious with butter too...😋
This lovely little Mama is the real deal. Her recipes are as authentic as they come. Whenever I need a latino recipe and clear instruction, this is where I go. Tried & True! ❤️
My besties mom used to make these for us back when I was really little. I would get so wide eyed watching her flip them on the hot skillet with her bare hands lol 😂. I’d never seen anything like that before and I thought she was amazing (well - actually she was truly amazing 😍). She’s put butter on them, roll them up in a napkin and send us outside to eat. To this day, literally one of my favorite childhood memories. Thank you Claudia for this video and recipe! Time to relive my childhood… 😁
Same here. Oddly my child hood friends be was Claudia. Her Grandmother watched all the little ones during the day as the parents worked. I would go over everyday after I got my chores done, help her with her chores, and her grandmother would always say "you too skinny - eat!" Handing me a plate of food. It always had beans, rice, fresh tortillas, sometimes some sort of meat or potatoes. But it was always good. Never asked just ate. I always felt like I would pop when I left lol. My favorite childhood memories. Those and the other neighbor would make tamales, and let us eat on them all day lol. FYI, sadly I still can't speak Spanish, but it is my favorite food to cook.
I love how you always stay so nice and clean when you are cooking. Meanwhile, I look like I was laying on the counter and rolling around with the food 😬😂😂
Look how far away she is from the counter. If you strain your back, you can be clean, too. She doesn't do that with the camera off. She gets into her cooking clothes, or has an army of aprons. Like we do.
These tortillas are perfect! And I know its a bit naughty but to be honest, I put all the ingredients in my breadmaker and let it knead for me, saves so much energy for me as a busy mum. They still came out absolutely perfect. 👌 I also render my own pork fat from roasts and bacin etc. Use that in the tortillas as shortening it will blow your mind 🎉
I made this because I didn't want to go to the store to get tortillas and now I never need to make that specific run again. This recipe was awesome! Really easy to follow. (I definitely need to work on my shaping though, they were kind of... not circular.)
Awesome recipe. Best one I have found so far. For those of us not living in the US, here is the recipe conversion: 480g All purpose flour 77g Lard or 84g Butter (hydrogenated fats will kill you, so I didn't include a conversion for shortening) 6g Baking Powder 11g Salt 480ml Hot Water
This recipe was so easy and came out perfectly! My whole family loved them. I've tried other recipes over the years but gave up and went back to store bought. Decided to try another instead of a trip to the grocery store and I'm SOOOOOO glad I found yours!!!! Will def be checking out your other recipes!!!
You have given me the keys to my childhood tortillas and I can't thank you enough. Nana always had me at the counter helping her ball and roll tortillas, which at the end of the day is the most important part of pretty tortillas ❤️ gracias, babe
You are so genuinely kind & generous and friendly. Your talents are incredible I love finding a new video from you. I just absolutely love your kind sweet energy. If all American women could be as you are this nation would recover in a rapid way. Thank you & God Bless you and your family. -Jonzy
I have had this recipe for a couple of years. I added oil. I had used warm water before and heard of using hot water, but I never had. Today, as I wanted to make a bit more tortillas, but not 30, I saw your video and used hot water. To my surprise, it was so easy to knead the dough!!! It was quickly done. Learn something new❤. Thanks
In 5th grade, my best friend Armando's Mom made fresh tortillas with a most delicious pork for World Food Day. I've been hooked on both ever since! Thank you for jogging this memory from an old man!!!!
Hi, my dough came out pretty soupy. Followed the recipe closely w/ 4 cups AP flour, 1.5 tsp BP, and 2 tsp salt and 6 TBLspoons butter, & 2 cups hot water added slowly. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks for any help.
Love this. I’ve made my tortillas with a similar recipe for about 12 years and they turn out great each time. One step I’ve skipped every time is the kneading for 5 mins before the rest time. I’ll have to try this because yours look to flatten nicely.
I really appreciate cooks who know how to make simple videos for easy recipes. This was short and to the point. When I'm trying to find a recipe I appreciate not having to watch 20 minutes of details that are common sense.😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
You probably won't see this comment, but I followed your recipe for flour tortillas and they were delicious!! My daughters were shocked when I told them I made them 🙂 Thank you for the step by step recipe.
I have tried 3 recipes for tortillas. The first was like this one only a smaller batch. The dough never became sticky and no matter how long I kneaded it was never pliant. The tortillas turned out like thick tough pancakes. The second didn't use baking powder and they turned out better, even puffing like they should but they were small. Today I tried again I made these tortillas. The sticky dough was like something out of the blob movie lol I had to add a couple table spoons of flour to bring it together (I didn't even use all of the water). I use a tortilla press because of old hands and the thing I noticed that this and the first recipe had in common was the dough wanted to pull back together after leaving the press. They end up to thick when it does that. I rolled a couple by hand and they puffed but they tasted to much like baking powder. I may not be meant to make my own tortillas but I will keep trying.
I just had to throw the whole batch away. Even after adding at least one more cup of flour it was way too sticky to knead. I’m not sure how everybody else is measuring, but mine certainly did not turn out. I knew you could not use that much liquid in only 4 cups of flour.
Too much water. I use this recipe, same steps as hers but not additional flour. Mine dont stick to counter. I use a little less than a cup. 3 cups flour 2 teaspoons salt 1/2 baking powder (optional) 1/2 cup shortening or slightly less than 1/2 cup Abt a cup of water or slightly less. Knead the dough for 3 min and let it rest for abt 10 minutes covered w plastic or a kitchen towel. You can either let the entire dough rest or you can opt to make the balls and then let then rest (my preferred method). I use an cast iron skillet, medium heat. My stove is gas. Hope this recipe helps you.
You have to trust the process and persevere. It will start out and you will think it can't possibly be that much water, but the stickiness will go away after you need a while. Try not to add more flour, that is what is making it thick and tough.
@@staceyfinch2158 I am naving the same problem, after kneading the dough, it was still sticky and when I was done it did not conform to a solid ball like hers did. Its resting so i dont' k now what's gunna happen!

I tried this today ... kind of spur of the moment ... and it's fantastic. I had some rounds and some squares ... but all were very very tasty. Thanks. :)
@@angelicaramirez915 Yes, it worked beautifuly for me, I'm in Canada and our flour is made from harder wheat so maybe that is why? I thought it was a great dough, so easy to work with ... @@sarahs7253 Good question.....actually the answer is no. I found it to be a little too much water for the mix. My strategy is to add a little water at a time up until I get the consistency I want.....hope this helps
Ive tried alot of homemade tortillas recipes but Miss Claudia recipe is an all time fave with my kids. My oldest helps prep, roll and cook the tortillas just so she can be the first one to do the taste test. Thank you for your recipe love🤍
Thank you so much ! I’ve done acouple of you’re recipes ! Love them. Ive struggled with tortillas but I love how you showed us step by step especially when rolling them out 🤗
Hands down the best recipe I’ve made. I will never be able to buy store brand after making these tortillas. I made these with grilled chicken wraps. Thank you for sharing💝
I can only imagine who wonderful those tortillas smell as they're cooking on the stove. It's an incredible smell that brings back great childhood memories.
My mom tried to teach me to make flour tortillas, hers were amazing! I never got it right. Now I just buy Tortillaland tortillas at the store and cook them at home. They are basically the dough rolled out and ready to be put on the comal. Easy and tasty for when you are lazy. 😄
Yes! This seems a very easy recipe! I'll try it soon. Hopefully, I'll be able to make these while my Mom sleeps, then have Breakfast Burritos ready when she awakes. I'll need to pick up some more flour though. And eggs. Yum!
Its really hard to make the tortillas round, but this is also the best explained tutorial in the TH-cam platform ❤ Thanks for the tips watching your channel from Mexico 🙏🏼

After trying to make flour tortillas for so long and not being able to do it that I almost gave up !! came across ur video and I decided to give them another try !!! And let me just say Thank you for sharing ur recipe I have made 3 times in this week alone !!!!!!!!! It was a hit since try one !!! My family loves them !!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to try more of ur recipes !!!!!!
Absolutely love your videos! Loved Mexican food since I was a kid living in AZ and your videos have helped me to recreate all the recipes I always assumed were too hard to make myself. :)
Good recipe. The extra water makes the dough easier to spread. The extra butter or lard does the same thing. Extra lard/butter make the tortillas sorta see through and a little crumbly when reheated. I used small amount of coconut fat or olive oil preferably organic. Both with a little difference in texture when cooked. The thickness in rolling the tortillas also adds to a different texture. Good recipe. Great job on the video. Difference in heat also makes a big difference. Colder temps when cooking the tortillas will toast them. High heat will cook the outside but not the inside of the tortilla. Too
These were sooooo good!!! I work for the Boys and Girls club and they want to make these. I’m using your recipe 💯!!! It was my first time using shortening. I think it made them stay softer even after refrigeration.
Mmmm, those tortillas look so deliscious ! I always wanted to know how to make flour tortillas. My Mom always made them so perfect every time. Thanks for sharing Claudia.
OMG! Thank you! I have been trying for so so long to make flour tortillas right. I cut this recipe in half but it was perfect... Thank you!!! Yayyyyyy!!!
Thank you, Claudia, they turned out perfect! I'm eating these now with bowl of fresh made frijoles in crockpot with aguacate, cilantro, onion, an jalapeños! 😉😋😊💞
My family is Norwegian and watching you make these is so similar to the process we use to make lefse. (The finished product even looks identical to each other!) Lefse has potatoes in it as well, but it's pretty much a potato tortilla. So many great memories of making it with my mom and grandma growing up, I'm sure yours is one of those recipes that will be cherished in your family! :)
Claudia I love and cook almost everything you cook. You should have your own tv show also. Wanted to ask if one day can you make spinach and chipotle flour tortillas.
Can't wait to try this recipe. Looks so simple even a non experienced guy like me can make them. Thank you for sharing and showing step by step instructions.
Made these a few weeks ago and they were an instant hit with my family …making them for a birthday party tomorrow…thanks,so much for sharing…stay blessed
I think it’s a sign I need to make homemade tortillas. You and views on the road uploaded the same video today! Can’t wait to try this Claudia. Your recipes never fail and my family is always happy :)
I have no idea how I managed it but my dough is so sticky compared to yours. Had to add nearly 2 more cups of flour to get anything even close to that consistancy. It's sitting now. So I guess we will see what happens.
First recipe I looked at, and I’m not even going to bother to look at another one! Really nice job. Thank you! after years of eating store-bought tortillas I can’t wait to try.
Idk what I am doing wrong here, but as I am adding the hot water little by little, the dough becomes very sticky, and I haven't had yet to use the full 2 cups of water. I'm measure everything out exactly as it says. I end up adding more flour to keep it from being sticky. It is not working for me. 😢
It’s meant to be sticky at first then as you knead it the stickiness will go away. The kneading process enables the flour to fully absorb the moisture and develop gluten strands.
Hey I have a quick question what can I use to substitute shortening? Because I don't use shortening at all, if I can substitute shortening for butter how much butter would I need or it is all depends on how much I make it. Thank you so much I'm a New subscriber to your page🎉 @@CookingConClaudia
Missing the fixings of beef and beans and we're set for lunch..! Easy Peasy recipe! Thank you!! I was lucky enough to see and eat Tortillas made by hand. She used a gas stove top to "bake" them. They were awesome, because they had a Whole Lot of Love Baked In...
This recipe is a disaster,2 cups of hot water is way too much,And I don't know how she made it look easy, Which it's not,I ended up throwing the crap out.!😢
I do not have much arm strength, so I cannot do all that by hand. I was able to use my stand mixer to do it for me and it turned out great! My mixer had to knead the dough for about 12 minutes to get that soft dough ball, but it worked! Thank you for the video!!!
I wish you would use weight measurements for flour when it comes to dough recipes. Most professional cooks acknowledge that a cup of flour is 120 grams but the weight of a cup of flour can differ dramatically depending on how tightly the flour is packed in the cup. Your recipe calls for 4 cups of flour. If we were to assume that to be 480g then add the 2 cups of water (473g), we are talking about a dough with almost 100% hydration! That is not what I see in the video. A 100% hydration dough looks almost like a batter. Most flour tortillas recipes I’ve seen have a dough hydration of 50-60%.
It’s perfect! My go to recipe for flour tortillas it is very sticky at first. Which is why I don’t dump all water at once. Pour little by little! Enjoy!
I have been trying to make Mexican tortillas for years. I made excellent bread but tortillas never turn soft and are always too dry. I have seen many many videos and yours is the best. I am trying your recipe right now.

Mmmm tortillas homemade!! 😋 I love homemade flour tortillas!!! Thank you for showing us how to make these ❤️ love you Claudia and all your videos!! Always watching 🤗 and much love to your family 💘
Just made these Claudia. I made them with unsalted butter, because I didn't have lard. They are so good, thank you so very much!
This is perfect! I've looked through many many recipes and I can say this is simple and straight to the point and they look amazing!
Yessss im telling you they are the best and soooo easy to make!!!😊💗
Thank you so much Claudia! I always did too much or not enough seasonings and burn things 😅 since i started watching your videos my Husband has been complimenting my food. GRACIAS 😍😍😍😍
Thank you Claudia! I’ve been looking to make my own flour tortillas. It looks simple and great tips 😊
Too
Now I can stop buying and make my own with your easy to follow step by step recipe 😉 😋
Recipe is spot on in taste, texture and ease… 😎👍
These were sooooo good!!! I work for the Boys and Girls club and they want to make these. I’m using your recipe 💯!!! It was my first time using shortening. I think it made them stay softer even after refrigeration.
Mmmm, those tortillas look so deliscious ! I always wanted to know how to make flour tortillas. My Mom always made them so perfect every time. Thanks for sharing Claudia.
OMG! Thank you! I have been trying for so so long to make flour tortillas right. I cut this recipe in half but it was perfect... Thank you!!! Yayyyyyy!!!
Just made these today. Thank you very much for this recipe! This will now be my go-to recipe for tortillas!
I love TH-cam for comments like this. The whole world is connected now... it’s all connected by Bill Gates and that rainman, Zuckerberg.
They also look very similar to the 餃子皮, Chinese dumplings, only the Chinese version is smaller, but the process seems the same
@@PaddysPubPatronI was just about to comment that food can bring the world together, then I saw your comment 😂😂
Are you actually Norwegian or an American of Norwegian descent?
My wife’s grandmother (German married to a Norwegian) made the best lefse I’ve ever encountered!😊
Claudia the only cooking woman i watch.....love her recipes n style.....that smile ....keep it up girl👍
Claudia I love and cook almost everything you cook. You should have your own tv show also. Wanted to ask if one day can you make spinach and chipotle flour tortillas.
This is the best flour tortilla recipe out of all the recipes I’ve seen!!! My tortillas come out perfect!!!
Thanks a lot! I rarely cook, but I nailed those tortillas! I used less water, however, because it looks like your dough has 100% hydration.
I have no idea how I managed it but my dough is so sticky compared to yours. Had to add nearly 2 more cups of flour to get anything even close to that consistancy. It's sitting now. So I guess we will see what happens.
I agree
Sameeee mine came out stickyy
You do have to knead it to the soft and smooth state. Humidity/altitude can effect recipes as well.
This recipe is spot on. I'm so pleased on how they came out. 😊😊Thanks so much, and God Bless ❤️
OMG Claudia, this is the simplest and softest tortillas every!!! Thank you so much! 💜
My go to channel for Mexican cooking and learning how. Love how everything is so clean.😊
Girl this recipe looks awesome! I’m going to try to make them this weekend🤤
First recipe I looked at, and I’m not even going to bother to look at another one! Really nice job. Thank you! after years of eating store-bought tortillas I can’t wait to try.
I followed this recipe but my dough was very sticky after adding the 2 cups of hot water like u said I had to add mor flour as I needed it
I've been using your recipe ever since I found this...only thing is, I didn't need all the water... family love this..thank u
So pleased with this recipe! Finally made tortillas that don’t crack and dry out immediately. Thank you so much for sharing.
U always make everything looks so Easy and Delicious
I've been making this recipe at least once a week for the past few weeks. So different from store bought. Thank you Claudia!
Makes me so happy! I make flour tortillas at least once a week too, they are just simply the best!
Hey I have a quick question what can I use to substitute shortening? Because I don't use shortening at all, if I can substitute shortening for butter how much butter would I need or it is all depends on how much I make it. Thank you so much I'm a New subscriber to your page🎉 @@CookingConClaudia
2 cups of water is way too much.
I agree 💯
Just add a little bit at a time
This is the second recipe of hers, where she uses too much water . Maybe her flour is different, but it's annoying
Can't wait to try these!! Who knew homemade tortillas could be so simple to make! Thank you Claudia!❤❤
I followed the directions step by step but the dough was really sticky and never stop being sticky
Mine was too but kept kneading and it got like hers, also depending on room temperature / humidity in your kitchen it can affect dough
These were sooo yummy!!!! The dough was very sticky after combining everything but I just kept kneading and the dough got lovely and soft.
Did you add all the ingredients in the bowl using the dough hook or just the kneading part? I want to use my kitchenaid as well to do this. Thx
I use the batter paddle to "crumble" the lard/butter into the flour and then yes, the dough hook to do all the kneading. 😄@KingH_360
That’s too much water, right? I tried the recipie twice and the dough came out more like a batter.
Thank you for this comment - had no idea what was wrong.
I started watching for the recipes but the more I watch the more I stay for the view!! Great food! They recipes are perfect!
With 2 cups of water for 4 cups of four, this became a soup for me! :(
It depends on the type of flour, for me 4 cups of flour took 5 cups of hot water,
Thank you! worked the first time around. My wife would have been proud.
4 cups of flour and 2 cups of water?? Why is mine so watery if I followed exact instructions 😒😒 2:35
Add the water a 1/4 cup at a time. Kneed the dough as you add. I usually have some water left.
Wish she would have said that
@@melissamel7717she did 😂
Thank you very much for this instruction video on making homemade tortillas! Bravo! Bravo! You make it look easy!
NOOOOOOO WAY. The recipe was way too wet for just 4 cups of flour.
It’s perfect! My go to recipe for flour tortillas it is very sticky at first. Which is why I don’t dump all water at once. Pour little by little! Enjoy!
Yup. Mine was like oatmeal.... Threw it away and tried again. Exact same result.... What am I doing wrong?
@Fitzfish add enough water to hydrate the dry flour once it’s wet enough you can knead u til it no longer sticks to your hands ☺️
Glad I'm not the only one who thought so! I had to add an extra 1.5 cups of flour so it stopped being a soup
Claudia...you make it look so simple. Thank you. Now I need to learn how to make enchiladas with these tortillas. My favorite.
4 cups flour to 2 cups water makes a batter. The ratio is not correct for a dough
Agree. I ended up needing to add more flour.
Can't wait to try this recipe, as it has less fat and baking powder than the one I'm currently using. Love me a frugal recipe!
Didnt work. I just ended up with goop for dough
Me to I hade to add more flour
I have been trying to make Mexican tortillas for years. I made excellent bread but tortillas never turn soft and are always too dry. I have seen many many videos and yours is the best. I am trying your recipe right now.
Your measurements were way off!!!!!!!!
No way it was perfect!
Hi Claudia I'm Navajo, we make Tortillas everyday.... our recipe are FLOUR, BAKING POWDER, SALT, N warm water.... after that we put 1/4 teaspoon of oil... put em into golf ball sizes, kneed n roll em out n cook em on our Comal
N the way u make it looks delicious as well
Way too much water in this recipe
I am obsessed with how to the point your are with your videoos. I clicked on your vid because it’s five mins, which means you don’t add a bunch of time wasting fluff. Then I noticed the rest of your channel is like that too. instant sub for that 🤩. This is how you do great content🏆👌
Four cups flour two cups water with poor instructions I now have soup
Omg me too!!! I tried 2x and it never looked like hers at all. It was like soup. Over an hour later and wasting 8 cups of flour I give up lol
Never put the full amount of water in. You slowly add the water while mixing the flour together.
@@ylee800which what she explains in her video. Instructions worked for me!
Thanks for posting this. I am really tired of buying tortillas. This looks the most authentic to what I am used to eating and I cannot wait to make some.
Yeah… To Much Water :(sticky
Even after meading it, it's still sticky
Just add more flour, I had the same issue, that’s because people pack their cups differently. Once I added a little more flour they came out amazing
