  • Photojournalism is a powerful medium to share one’s story with the wider world. However, the exploitative elements of the industry are often brushed past, in which photographers and news outlets profit off of their subjects, without representing the entire truth. Focusing on the story of Sharbart Gula, the infamous girl featured in the ‘ National Geographic’, I will address the unethical aspects of photojournalism, reflecting the importance of journalists and readers alike to recognise the whole story behind an image, rather than base our views on prior stereotypes.
