Perhaps the best ending to any movie ever. This is what a true hero does: takes the blame for other people's mistakes and goes on the run, because they can take it.
Not in every case but certainly in some cases good people take the blame for what others have done. Not always though, it's probably kind of rare really because people need to learn personal accountability and that would just coddle their weaknesses if you just fell on the sword for them constantly. But yeah in this particular case Bruce taking the blame on himself as the ultimate sacrifice is a beautiful moral example.
The part where batman says Gotham needs its true hero and at the same time he turns his face to hide the villian side is cinematic greatness at its best.
It's an interesting moral choice they make. The heroes agree to tell a "noble lie" but nonetheless a lie. They maintain a myth of the noble Harvey that is a lie, but a lie they want everyone to believe for the sake of keeping faith in justice.
@@oliverford5367 I thought about it. I think that the message is that: you can build something on a lie but truth will find its way. Here they needed to reward people faith, otherwise Gotham would have fallen, Harvey needed to be the hero. When he says: - Sometimes people deserve more I think he means that in this case telling the truth would have been easy for him, for Gordon even fair to be honest… but it would have destroyed everything.
This is why Batman is the greatest superhero. He puts himlsef before others without any hesitation. He does this all without having powers and just with heart.
When I first saw this movie, I was disappointed it was over. I wanted it to go on forever. Its unfair to compare this movie to other superhero/Batman films, because anyone who watched this movie will tell you it transcended every expectation they ever had when it came to cinema. One of the greatest films ever made, and the greatest since the turn of the millennium.

I'm a big marvel fan. And the MCU has so many heroes that I could watch all day. But what makes The Dark Knight so incredible, is that it studies the superhero mythology very closely. I believe it was robbed at the Oscars for not winning the best picture award. Cause this is a masterpiece.

This was a 10/10 movie, perfect movie in every way. The trilogy I would say as a whole is a 9/10, dark knight is just on a different level in every way.
This is what I like about Bruce in these movies. He's the embodiment of the word selfless. Almost everything he does, he does for others to his own detriment. But unlike most heroes, he's almost never rewarded for it. Until the very end of the trilogy, there's no karma. His mental and physical wellbeing only gets worse and worse the more he sacrifices. But he's okay with that. It's admirable, but also sad.

"I'm not a hero. Not like Dent." That's Batman. He underestimates his own worth and the inspiration he provides. He believes Superman is that symbol, but he is too
Batman doesn't see himself as a Superman kind of hero. He is seeing himself as a person who is ready to lose everything to do what is best for everyone.
Even though the people of Gotham now looked at Batman as the villain, he becomes a hero by doing the right thing for those people. Just amazing writing!
“ you’ll condem me, set the dogs on me. Cause that’s what needs to happen because sometimes the truth isn’t good enough, sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faint rewarded” I find this a very applicable set of words for life
"Sometimes truth isn't good enough. Sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people need to have their faith rewarded." I really struggled with the philosophy behind it. I believed nothing could be beyond and higher than truth. Truth can't be compromised for anything. But I understand it now. Faith is higher than truth. Justice is higher than truth. Because we are talking about subjective truth here. It's not eternal truth, which we will never fully know. It's a religious movie. It's a movie about faith and justice. Indeed, It's a perfect movie.
The third movie is about the truth being the most important value. Many characters (St Swithin's boy, Selina, policemen) still believed in Batman, even after being blamed for Harvey and the others. Not only that, Gotham was never really free until the truth prevailed.
in reality, he is because he makes enemies but in Gotham, he's always the hero no matter what because Gotham is born to be in chaos and chaos was responsible to make the enemy

💯 Truth. He is a brilliant actor and for me portrayed both bruce nd batman perfectly. I love his hoarse voice he used as batman as well instills fear.. That boldness that fear he wants his enemies to share the dread that he was affected by. This voice gives that vibe of a justice league leader a dark knight someone enemies should fear. Thats wht for me he is the best batman... Also because bale knows how to act with his eyes and voice exceptionally well

My Top 3 Batman Movies:
1. The Dark Knight
2. The Batman
3. Batman Begins
The Batman and The Dark Knight are switched in mine, but still a valid list
The Batman is overrated asf switch it out with either Batman 1989 or the dark knight rises. But it's your opinion so it's ok
The batman at best should be top 4, the nolan trilogy is just far better
Rises and Begins are both better than The Batman

I saw this opening weekend in July '08; when the screen cut to black, the title popped up and Hans Zimmer’s them kicked in - the entire theater gave a roaring standing ovation for about 2-3 minutes! This movie really was an epic cinematic experience!!🦇💯
The Joker can not win.
True and the other side was so beautiful, smiling ❤
The soundtrack always give me goosebumps
Me too
Hans Zimmer is a national treasure.
@@ABODA1988he’s German
Best line ever,
"Cuz sometimes truth isnt good enough...
Sometimes people deserve more...
Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded"
It's an interesting moral choice they make. The heroes agree to tell a "noble lie" but nonetheless a lie. They maintain a myth of the noble Harvey that is a lie, but a lie they want everyone to believe for the sake of keeping faith in justice.
@@oliverford5367 I thought about it. I think that the message is that: you can build something on a lie but truth will find its way. Here they needed to reward people faith, otherwise Gotham would have fallen, Harvey needed to be the hero. When he says:
- Sometimes people deserve more
I think he means that in this case telling the truth would have been easy for him, for Gordon even fair to be honest… but it would have destroyed everything.
It's poetry in motion
@@GoodCompany39 its like poetry, it rhymes
Fun fact: The two final scenes of Batman riding the motorcycle are actually cut from the earlier chase in the film. Fantastic editing.
The hype and anticipation for this movie in the summer of 2008 was something I’ll never forget
Same here. I was just a kid but I remember how much impact it left me.
I bet it blew away your expectations 😅
There was so much hype and anticipation. And then the movie managed to exceed all the hype and anticipation...
This ending always brings tears to my eyes. The Dark Kinght remains the only film I saw in any cinema where I experienced the audience at the end of the film continuously clapping. Legendary film.

"Why is he running dad?"
"Because we have to chase him."
I've always loved those lines
The beat part, the kid knew batman was good. Was worried about him
This scene, the moment the boy says "why is he running dad" and Gordon answers "because we have to chase him". When you see him fleeing; The 'man' in ' the batman' became more apparent. At the end of the day, he is still a man. He can feel vulnerability, he can be ignored, he can be destroyed.
3:44 I love this sound after Gordon said they will hunt Batman. It draws you in and makes you feel like the hunt has just begun.
I'm a big marvel fan. And the MCU has so many heroes that I could watch all day. But what makes The Dark Knight so incredible, is that it studies the superhero mythology very closely. I believe it was robbed at the Oscars for not winning the best picture award. Cause this is a masterpiece.
That is why i love DC more. Because it feels like mythology. Ordinary humans that become extraordinary. Humans becoming and fighting gods. Titans. Can’t feel that with marvel except with thanos.

FREAKING CHILLS every time! This is the part of the movie that escalated The Dark Knight from a really good movie to "Epic" for me. 🍻🍻
"To them you're a freak, like me. They need you right now, but when they don't...they'll cast you out like a leper."
Perfect foreshadowing.
I always wondered if the Joker would have compared himself to Batman if he really knew who he was. It is a little easier being casted out when your other identity is a playboy billionaire.
@@zeaferjones1404I think he was more so comparing himself to the Batman identity and not also to the man behind the mask. In that comparison, he was right.
I remember watching the closing credits in the cinema for the first time realising I had just watched an absolute game changer.
I made my wife stay as the theater emptied. She didn't say anything, but she realized that there was something about this movie that hit deep with me.
I had a smile from ear to ear for 2 plus hours, and it was a high I wanted to take a few extra minutes to reflect upon.
Legendary director, legendary composer, amazing Batman portrayal, legendary Joker performance, chilling 2-face villain portrayal, and just all around great supporting cast. This has to be the greatest film of all time.
This isn't just a great superhero ending. This is one of the greatest endings in the history of film IMO.
Powerful ending I love how Batman turned over Harvey Face to show the half that was a hero.
"I'm whatever Gotham needs me to be."
How noble indeed.
Watched it over and over again… feels like a thousand times now. Still gives me the goosebumps. Absolute masterpiece.
I remember seeing Batman struggling to run , my friends were all feeling sad for him , when this film ended there was a symphony of applause.I remember waiting in ticket area , we could hear people clapping , I was like okay it's really good.I was blown away.2008 what a year.
Its cuz he was half dead. Look what he accomplished in last 20 min of that film. Then limps off into the night with Gordon’s kid pleading to him. Incredible film making.
What I also love about this scene is that the belief Gorden had in Batman being a force for good is truly vindicated in this scene. This scene fully proves to Gorden that Batman really is the Hero.
2:24 I love the lighting and detailing on the axe, the axe appears to be extremely hot because of the red reflection but not hot enough to break the Batman logo. It takes three strikes to break it.
This was a 10/10 movie, perfect movie in every way. The trilogy I would say as a whole is a 9/10, dark knight is just on a different level in every way.
the dark knight will forever be my favourite superhero movie ever, watch it more than 10 time and still astonished every single time watching it.

This movie is genuinely one of the greatest movies ever made. It's not only Superhero movies but this movie certainly breaks the barrier.
No Matter How Many We Watch Everytime Feels 1st Time. Chills, This Trilogy Will Remain As The Greatest Batman Trilogy Of All Time.. Hail Nolan
So many years later and this still gives me goosebumps
This is what I like about Bruce in these movies. He's the embodiment of the word selfless. Almost everything he does, he does for others to his own detriment. But unlike most heroes, he's almost never rewarded for it. Until the very end of the trilogy, there's no karma. His mental and physical wellbeing only gets worse and worse the more he sacrifices. But he's okay with that. It's admirable, but also sad.
After all these years the ending I still get chills it’s the best ending not just to a comic book movie but to any movie. It has been and will always be the greatest comic book movie ever
even compared to the The Batman(2022?)
@@johnnymanning2952 I haven’t seen the Batman and I really have no desire to see it you have to realize one thing there will be nobody and I mean nobody that will top heath ledger‘s performance as the joker. Forget comic book movies people will be talking about his portrayal of the joker 20 years from now. And a hero is only as good as The villain and nobody I’ll top ledger on that. One last thing the problem with WB is there’s a lot of other characters that they don’t invest in as far as development goes this will be the third reboot of Batman in 15 years and that’s why marvel will continue Outperform them in movies and as far as making money it’s not even close I’m a Batman and Superman fan but there’s more to the DC universe than those two

Still hasn't been a superhero or comic to movie adaptation anywhere close to The Dark Knight. Brilliant performances from Bale, Oldman, Caine, Freeman, Eckhart, and of course Heath Ledger RIP. Only Collin Farrell with his Penguin character would be worthy of joining this all-star ensemble. It never really occurred to me back then just how fitting those words actually were to the characters shown while they were spoken. God, I love this movie.

The visual storytelling is beautiful
"I'm not a hero. Not like Dent." That's Batman. He underestimates his own worth and the inspiration he provides. He believes Superman is that symbol, but he is too
Batman doesn't see himself as a Superman kind of hero. He is seeing himself as a person who is ready to lose everything to do what is best for everyone.
The music elevates this scene from beautiful to unforgettable.

Possibly one of the most epic endings to a movie ever made.
The greatest scene in cinema history.
"Sometimes truth isn't good enough. Sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people need to have their faith rewarded."
I really struggled with the philosophy behind it.

Imagine being that kid and your dad casually drop you the best dialogue of all time.
This one scene alone was better than all of The Batman
Say whatever you want for the best Batman version, but that look at 1:57 with the eyes conveying the weight of the dialogue can't be done by any other version of Batman than Bale's. He literally nailed it.
