The funny thing is the Joker actually was more successful at getting rid of organized crime than Batman.
Kinda true.
Or the gaudy "Dent Act" that came after this before Bane's siege.
gotta get rid of the competition somehow
He just created a bunch of disorganized crime though. Because that's what joker is: Chaos. Organized crime actually has a purpose in society as it can often keep itself in line. Just look to Mexico's drug trade with the myriad of cartels for example. The violence over there has got much worse over the last several decades because of how chaotic it has become.

"Money is the reason i'm still alive"
*said by the man before getting burned on a mountain of money*
Now money is the reason why he is dead😒😆
Ironic...
th-cam.com/video/uQ-hjcCvlQQ/w-d-xo.html
Lau is like a nba player who lives and dies by the 3....miss and you get dissed
Ironic... He could save others from Bankruptcy.. But not himself xD
The fact that joker can convince hired goons to burn a mountain of cash shows how much charisma he has and how intimidating he can be.
Not exactly. Batman explained it. He choses goones that he can easily manipulate.
As much as he likes to present himself as an agent of chaos, he's more like a performer. He makes plans. Lots of them. They are more like plays scripts. He prepares the stage, chose the right gears, hires the right crew to help him, who he mades also part of the audience...That's a wise choice sometimes. He knows his art: I refuse not to aknowledge this 😂. And he can improvise too for sure.
He's not driven by greed and thirst for power, that is correct. But he have a goal. The fact that said goal are meaningless destruction, death, fear, makes him more unpredictable.
Or alternatively, it contributes to how incredible unrealistic the movie is. With the exception of the ending, EVERYTHING goes EXACTLY to plan with Joker. Unrealistic for a plan to go PERFECTLY.
Its not that far fetched that loonies from Arkham would believe the Joker if he tells them its fake money or that the money has been marked.
@@RicksMovieCollection-hm9hq
Have a fairly loose large scale strategy with lots of alternatives and contingencies set up, have a series of small and achievable goals that you can achieve in a timely manner with assets going by the rule of 1 is none and 2 is 1 and then you now have the process needed to do just about anything if you’re competent and committed enough.
@@RicksMovieCollection-hm9hqnotice how it doesnt he doesnt have a plan he does things when one thing doesnt turn out as he wanted it to he does another thing and so on and so fourth until hes successful
It’s kinda sad because the Russian was basically the only guy who was ever nice to the Joker. He was willing to hear him out, never attempts to betray him, and seems genuinely excited to hear what the Joker wants to use his money for. He’s never thought of the Joker as a freak and seems much more upset about being betrayed.
He only thought of him as a freak when he made his move to take over the mob.
*Don't fall for these mob guys charm...it's the same thing with Tony Soprano if you watched that show...but in general he was professionally utilizing the joker and of course the joker knew that...*
True
To be fair. Joker never betrayed him. All he did was prove two things:
A. His money is worthless to him, as the lackey continues to prove
and B. He's still salty that he got upstaged in his position.
A small point - he wasn't Russian he was Chechen. At the time this movie was made he'd have probably killed you for calling him Russian.
Joker: "I enjoy gasoline, its cheap"
Everyone right now: "and I thought my jokes were bad."
It is actually still pretty cheap compared to other methods of destruction even with todays prices. Because it doesn't take much gasoline to start a fire that's difficult to put out.
In the UK, fuel costs an arm and leg right now.

2:23 this little moment is so overlooked but reveals the contempt Joker has for others, but especially his “less than worthy” criminal partners. Throwing money in Lau’s face. He almost seems to hate the idea of someone caring about money. Lau lived for money, and now he’ll die for it (and on top of it).

Especially all the scene with the joker.
Christopher Nolan, the actors, the writing, the cinematic choices
Dark knight rises has many as well
I know right? Every scene is iconic from start to finish. The only problem I have for this is overdoing the plots which I found the same on other Nolan movies. This movie for example, the Joker plotted too many things successfully all in one film. But still one of my top 3 favorite films though.

The way he chucks the money at the guys face gets me every time 😂😂😂😂
A friendly reminder that Lau was tied up on top of that pile of cash that went up in flames. What a horrible way to die.

Money burning is symbolic on how Joker is gonna watch the world in chaos like he said Eveything burns
Everything burns..
I always loved the way the gangster looks horrified at the money being burned - even though it's not his. He just can't fathom why someone would do that.
It was his final confirmation that this man was not driven by money at all and a psychopath. He suspected it, but respected his abilities and thought that good business could be done. This was his 'This MFer's really crazy' moment.
Plus it’s symbolic of the fact he’s about to be killed by what he loved most - money (once Joker sets it all on fire)
FRECK...
He only cares about money just like Joker said.
Some Men can’t be bought, bullied or bargained with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
The overall tone of the movie is evil
One part that is overlooked is Lau screaming while being burned alive.

4:33 I love how Gordon without a moments hesitation, organised the most immediate and efficient evacuation plan to counter The Joker's threat. No wonder he became Commisioner.
I’m guessing it was a bit easier that he already a raid ready to go. He just used them for the evacuation instead.
He became Commissioner because the Mayor needed someone with balls who would not bullshit around - to save his political ass from the Joker threat, even though he would've preferred a pussy politician like Loebe.

Has anyone ever mentioned how the most powerful mob boss in Gotham betrays the Joker because even he can recognize the situation has gotten out of hand? It actually ties into the bank teller in the opening heist taunting the Joker by saying "criminals in this town used to believe in something: honor, respect."
2:13 and I FINALLY understood that "where's the Italian?" refers to that mob boss. He only puts the hospital bombing plan into effect when he realizes the mob is no longer useful, and he needs to distract the police.
Most mob bosses are snitches
Yeah really ties into the notion that Batman was the worst thing to happen to Gotham city and why vigilantism leads to chaos and anarchy I think that was the underlying theme in Nolan's Batman trilogy the descent into absolute chaos.

That mob boss is just as crooked as Joker and honestly there's probably debate for who's more crooked to be had. Manners is what they have and you can kill and steal while keeping your Manners.
Man every single scene in this movie is iconic
Eckhart deserves more recognition for his performance too.
You can’t even recognize that this is Heath Ledger!
Just shows how great he is
That character consumed him, absolutely amazing

Fun fact: during the original cut, when Joker sets fire to his half, you don't hear the dogs barking, you hear the Chinese dude on top of the pile screaming as he is burned alive. I believe they changed it post production because while it is something the Joker would absolutely do, it was a bit much for a PG-13 rating.
Do u have original cut
do you have a link?
Always wondered why they didn't show Lau dying or even pan up as that seems a bit important but whatever. I feel like there were other things in this film darker than Lau being burned alive.
I couldn't find the original shot but I could find a still of Lau on fire sitting atop the pile, worth taking a look at

The best part about this scene was Heath burning the money wasn't scripted, it was totally improvised when he took the Joker persona to a new level and Christopher Nolan kept it in.

Miss you so much HEATH!!
When the Chechen says “They Won’t Work For A Freak” you can just feel and see the anger he is putting on Joker. If you remember back in the scene where he interrupts the Mob’s Meeting he was the ONLY one interested in what the Joker had to say. He never laughed at him or called him freak. Because he strongly misjudged the joker. The only interest him and his clients had were money which is why he couldn't see the bigger picture.

In this scene he says, "you don't look as crazy as you look, what are you going to do with all your money?", which shows that he thought the clown outfit was just for show. @@krtlkid This has always been a question of morality but in the end people will choose to save as many lives as they can even thought that one life doesn't even deserve death. The logic here would be so the more deaths that happens, the more impact it will give to the public as to what should be done by the authority. Personally I think it is sick either way.
@@GeorgiaAndrea the counterargument (to that utilitarian position) is that over the longer haul, more people will flourish in a culture where absolute principle is really strong i.e. someone who has such strong principles that they won't kill one even to save a hundred (i.e. they treat every living being as a sacred end in itself, and won't resort to "means to an end" thinking), you perpetuate that level of principledness throughout a culture over a long enough span of time and you end up with a paradisiacal land of moral saints with a murder rate of 0. Also, there's the whole being unable to know the consequences of actions, so we might as well just live by principles. For instance, if that one person you sacrificed had the cure to cancer, you've actually sacrificed 100s of millions to save 100.

DailyYeet Whoooooole lot more than CNN is saying this stuff, boy.
Here’s a hint. When only one news station is actually invested in saying the things you believe in, that makes them pretty untrustworthy. They aren’t heroes, they’re just fueling your aggression so they can profit off you. And the only reason they can get away with it is because you’re deluded into thinking you’re some kind of special hero who is in the know about some kind of secret conspiracy that conveniently no one else but your own selected allies know about. And that is all a giant farce. Reality is striking you right in the face and you’re trying to pull back a curtain that doesn’t exist. You’re too arrogant to understand that if this much of the world was against you, people would’ve figured it out already. There is no resistance, only delusion and the state of being pawns of the very media you claim to hate.
So yeah, keep calling people libtards, lets see how stupid you look. Here’s hoping Trump suffers from that covid he just contracted, maybe that’ll shut you up for a bit.
