Absolutely! The even bigger beauty of it is the fact that Gordon and Bruce Wayne outside of Gordon’s interactions with him as Batman do not share the screen together that much. They only have maybe one or two scenes in all three films together. However, it was Gordon who impacted Bruce the most. Goes to show that sometimes the littlest things and shortest moments can be a massive game changer in someone’s life.
This why I love Batman and Gordon it's so comic book accurate despite Bruce being the hero of Gotham that big bad ass Batman. Gordon is Bruce's hero he always has been and he always will be man I just love that.

"A hero can be anyone. Even someone doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy’s shoulders to let him know the world hadn’t ended." Man, what a great line. This movie was so beautifully written and emotionally rich. I love it, flaws and all. Gets way too much hate.
I agree. There was no way any Batman movie could follow The Dark Knight, and this still had some great moments we remember. The ending was so emotional and fitting for this great trilogy. ~ Caretaker
"I never cared.. who you were" "And you were right" ... "They'll hunt you" "You'll hunt me" ... "I never said thank you" "And you'll never have to" I get goosebumps every time I watch Gordon realizing who Batman is.
In a sense Gordon is for many reasons, why Bruce was saved from turning into a villain. Because Gordon told him everything would be alright shortly after his parents died.
ThickestKYLE yeah this why i love this movie the most of three! its not just batman that is the hero of the story! the hero can also be a simple cop that just tries to comfort a little boys day! and you might not even be aware of it!
Nolan gave everyone closure. Bruce was finally happy and living a normal life. Gordon finally knew who his mysterious friend was. Selina was no longer a criminal. Alfred finally got to see Bruce live the life he always wanted him to have. Thank you Nolan.
The look in Batman's eyes after he tells him about putting the coat over a young boys shoulders... outstanding acting by Bale. Thats what sets him apart from the other Batman actors to me, there are multiple times in the trilogy when you can see the emotions he's feeling through the mask
What I love most about this scene was, even so many years after the event, it didn't take Gordon more than 30 seconds to figure out exactly what, or in this case who, Batman was talking about. It came to him immediately. I wonder what surprised Gordon more, finding out that Bruce Wayne was Batman, or finding out that he was Batman's "Batman".
Exactly, Great point about Gordon finding out he's Batman's hero. Gordon wouldn't have forgot the day the Waynes were killed. Also, who else but Bruce Wayne could afford "Such Wonderful Toys"- Jack Nicholson's Joker's term for Batman's gadgetry (for all you young folks who may not know lol). The Nolans are Brilliant.
@@diparnabsen7565no bruce Wayne is just richest kid around the block. Anyone would remember doing him a favour.😊.. may be just to remind him.😅😅. I know Gordon is not kind of person.
I think that was to show that he was competent enough to find out on his own if he wanted to, he just didn't want to out of respect. Like in the comics.
TSH Techs You do realize he survived? Fox finds out Bruce fixed the auto-pilot, Gordon finds the searchlight repaired and Alfred sees him in the café. Good ending confirmed :)

That moment when Gordon realizes that little boy he comforted after his parents murder grew up to be one if the greatest heroes in the world 😭 I miss when superhero movies were more like this
02:07 : What an amazing detail by Nolan and the team: Gordon's scarf is dancing in the wind like a super hero cape. While revealing his identity, the Batman acknowledges the immense role that Gordon had on him as a child and also later on. Only a super hero has a flying cape, and thus Nolan gives us this hint that in his eyes, Gordon is also as much of a superhero than Batman because his humanity his act of kindness and care made Wayne into Batman.
@shahabsommro8950 Of course he does, everything in every frame from a dust particle to a flying cape is thoroughly checked by the director. Plots can have easter eggs but not the filming. Nolan does know
The fact that Bruce Wayne to this day remembers a man he saw 20, 30 years ago for like 30 seconds, by FACE, shows the impact Gordon had on him. I believe he impacted Batman in deeper, more visceral ways, expressing compassion to people in shitty situations, knowing the impact it can have on them, as it did him.
@@FEARYOYOYO He's talking about from the time of the flashback in Batman Begins, to when Batman shows up in the same movie. That's abo 20+ years that Bruce remembered Gordon, and the impact he had on him.
well his trauma haunts him constantly so he probably wouldn’t ever forget the man who essentially represents the first light he sees after the darkest event of his life
Also, add to the fact that Bruce knows that Gordon is one of the only good cops still left in a rotten city. The first one who tells him that the world hasn't ended, one of the only non-corrupt cops still fighting the fight for those who can't(before Batman),no wonder Gordon is Batman's Batman
i once at one of my worst times in my life stayed in a church after working somewhere I cant say and a man woke me up to ask if I needed any extra assistance. I thought he was a staff or something and i found out he was devoted to the church. I almost gave up on people at that point in my life unless I saw something that stood out because I could usually tell good by then. In the middle of the day he asked me in my experience did I believe people are born good or bad? I can never forget his face and one day I will go back to thank him. I told him no one is born bad or evil. Its as if he already knew my answer and was just trying to bring me back to humanity, but he was much older then me
One of the reasons why this movie stands out from the rest is because of the flawless acting of the actors. The spontaneous change in emotions showed on Robin's face as he realises that he is safe from the nuke but understands that Batman is about to perish is so terrifying yet serene. And Catwoman's moment of shock in realising that Batman will not be returning. Same goes for Gordon's realisation from Talia that the bomb cannot be stopped and then finds out that there is a way that the bomb can be taken out of the city but understands that it will come at the cost of Batman's life is so touching that he immediately asks Bruce's true identity as he realises that the hero he knows that Gotham deserves will never be honored as anyone more than as Batman.
I just realized when Bruce was saying: "A hero can be anyone, even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat on a young boy's shoulders to let him know that the world hadn't ended." John Blake was doing exactly that, giving hope to those kids and letting them know that the world hadn't ended.
@@anantambisht4895well this also aligns with the ending of tdk “Sometimes the truth isn’t good enough, sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded”
2:54 I cannot fully articulate why this moment means so much to me and makes me cry every time I see it. People talk about how "dark" and "gritty" this trilogy is, and that's certainly true to an extent, but it means the world to me that these movies did not take the easy route of cynicism. It's so easy to interpret Batman as just a vigilante anti-hero brutalizing criminals with his bare fists. But, at the core of his character, Batman is a HERO. He has angst and layers and his actions are sometimes questionable, but he is still good. Batman is meant to inspire people. He is a symbol of fear for the criminals of Gotham, but he is a symbol of hope for the people he protects, for little orphaned boys like himself. The fact that Batman's last moment in this trilogy is providing hope for a bus full of orphans who think they're about to die is so powerful to me. The way Joseph Gordon Levitt screams "THIS IS IT!", and then Batman emerging from the smoke, and that little kid saying "No, that's Batman!" My heart just can't take it. He's right, that is Batman. That's what Batman is supposed to be.
Because a hero can be anybody. You don't need superpowers or high tech equipment to become a hero. The will to do the right thing is what makes a hero. And Jim Gordon embodies that spirit in him.
It still gives me goosebumps hearing batman tell Gordon he's his hero. So captivating, Nolan is a genius not to mention hanz zimmers masterpiece of music
Do people really think that? I like to think that Afflecks films have inferior underwhelming plots, so it’s best to wonder who would have played the role better in this movie/franchise..Bale hands down for mine
"Even doing something as reassuring as putting a coat around a young boys shoulders...to let him know the world hadn't ended." That line right there sums up everything. Batman always saw Gordon as the hero. From the moment Gordon comforted him he had nothing but respect and admiration.
And Gordon really needed that considering Bane had just publicly shamed him. Gordon discovered one man who never gave up on him, who not only believed in him, but saw him as a hero.
"It could be something as reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy..." I'm sure Gord was thinking "um, Batman, I'm a cop who's had a long career dealing with tragedies. I've done that to like 100 kids."
Well. Gordon would most likely remember the rich kid whose parents died first. And he would be able to make the connection of Bruce Wayne and Batman. And even if he didn't remember Bruce Wayne first, he would know that it has to be someone rich, thus concluding that it is Bruce Wayne, the one child who he helped that is rich af.
Mustafa Tariq It makes perfect sense that he wouldn't forget something like that. The dialogue between the two of them in Arkham Knight after Gordon discovers Bruce is Batman shows it. "I've seen a lot in this job. But I'll never forget taking a witness statement from an 8 year old boy who had just seen his parents gunned down."
And the beauty of your statement is that is EXACTLY how the Joker sees himself and his minions. Batman endures because of the deep symbolism and mythology rooted in the charachters.
Oh be quiet lol that was so corny. He's a comic book character. If a trust fund yuppie who goes around at night dressed like a leather bat beating up people who haven't even had their day in court is your "hero" then you might need a new hero
kartikey singh 'Grammer'. Heh. Bruce actually meant there was no autopilot, as part of the ruse to sacrifice his life for Gotham. Imagine if he meant "no, autopilot," with Gordon within earshot. Would Jim be that ecstatic later on upon finding a newly fixed bat-signal?
Everyone said that Michael Keaton is the best Bruce Wayne, everyone said also that Ben Afleck is the best Batman. But Christian Bale.... Maaaan he is the real Dark Knight
to be fair ben affleck was good as a batman even though he wasn't given a solo movie plus the fact that BvS and JL wasn't good to begin with if he was given a good plot and solo movie he might go toe to toe with bale as best batman
Just simply amazing. I thought Batman had died and I was very upset. The music, the editing, the acting (especially Gary Oldman) is all amazing. Joseph Gordon Levitt is great in this scene when he realises Batman has given his life to save Gotham. Greatest ending to a superhero movie ever. I hope Logan is as good.
Agreed. When I saw this in the cinema, all the different emotions was incredible. I was so sad and upset that he sacrificed himself and then, was given hope when Fox and Gordon realised that he might be alive and then happy when Alfred saw him. Man, what an awesome trilogy of movies!
Amazing mix of feelings when I saw this. I wouldn't consider this a superhero movie like the Marvel stuff, much as I like them. This is amazing drama with class and emotion. Just happens to be Batman. A classic film which capped an amazing trilogy. They should leave Batman alone now, this will never be bettered.
John Horan yes I'd have to agree when Logan/Full strength Wolverine screamed in the forest and then destroyed everyone it was incredible. The character has a full arc now. Shame he wasn't in the Avengers but he's done now. Wolverine is up there with the Dark Knight in how to make a superhero movie.
@@loukaszs The Batman we deserved, but not the one we can have anymore. :( (I'm a fan of Nolan's movies, but I also have a soft spot for wacky 60's batman)
1:48 that interaction had me in tears in theaters. The acting and music were so beautiful and spot on. This moment hits me hard cause it reminds me of the time my father passed and after his funeral one of my closest friends at the time gave me assurance that everything was going to be okay and not to overthink. I was there for him when he lost his dad so glad he was there for me. Sucks we don’t talk anymore so it’s like I lost him later in life too.
3:28 Batman wasn't in the vehicle that was carrying the bomb at this moment. You can see the shadows of the buildings as he flies past them. If he was in the vehicle carrying the bomb, there wouldn't have been any shadows from buildings as he would have been over the ocean. The vehicle was on auto pilot.
This ending always makes me cry! Everything about this makes me so emotional! Love batman and love this movie! From the scene itself to the music! This is one of my favorite movies of all time
My favorite part of this is the reaction of Robin, he's in awe almost to the point of disbelief when he sees it's Batman and not the bomb detonating. Gives me chills every time I watch this scene.
The most emotional line in the film is "A hero can be anyone, even a man doing something as simple as putting a coat around a young boys neck, telling him the world hasn't ended." That line always gets me 😭 like a baby every time. That Line even gets my father crying and he doesn't even like this 🎥.
I get this is 3 years ago but it’s young boys shoulders, saying neck instead sounds like Gordon is out there killing young boys and making it seem like it’s a suicide
It's like no one knew what to do with her death. Was her neck broken? It seemed so but then - she's moved. And how exactly is she dying? And the way she so deliberately closed her eyes was bad. The whole scene was pretty botched.
Batman to admit to Gordon the truth about when he was a young boy....and needed a hero like Gordon.......my eyes filled up with tears......classic Batman...
I’ve rewatched this five times in a row and am in tears...of sadness but also joy that this film - and trilogy - exist. Thank you Nolan and Bale and WB and everyone.
I just really like that it was such a small act but to Bruce he really saved him in that moment. This trilogy is still the best trilogy that has come out.
"A hero can be anyone, even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat on a young boy's shoulders to let him know that the world hadn't ended.”
3:00 - 3:19 he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, the dark knight. This moment when he flies over, no words are spoken, just amazement for those who witness him fly out, as he fulfills Gordon's words from the previous film's ending. I struggle to describe how the scene hits but the best way I can say it is like this: His actions say, "Dont worry little ones, it'll be ok." (Little ones because they are terrified and are children or as little children, having no doubt that the end is near for them) You see somewhat similar sacrifices (somewhat because he didn't actually die) in other films, Boromir protecting the Hobbits at the end of the Fellowship of the Ring, Tony Stark snap to defeat Thanos and sacrifice himself. But this hits differently, he was despised and thought of as a criminal after the second film, he was hunted. Bane reveals the truth that Batman saved Gordon and everyone now realizes he was the hero. Yet, even though Gotham knows the truth, they still don't know who he is. They knew Boromir, they knew Stark. They just see him as Batman, this guardian that always seems to appear in their darkest hours and always comes through for them. And the one who has saved them, the one who has watched over them and protected them, dies alone (in their minds). There is no comfort given to him, there is no one by his side. The silent protector willingly flies past everyone, to die alone, so that they may live. "Don't worry little ones, it'll be ok" as he makes his final, lonely, selfless act to protect them. What a movie.
The "Bruce Wayne" at 2:17 from Gordon get me so hard. After 3 movies, he finally knows the name of the man who has been saving Gotham every night is the little boy he had helped.
In a city full of corruption in politics and police, one man stood out to Batman, a man with his own demons, with his own fears, his own shit to deal with but he tried tirelessly to do the right thing, the same man was the only one to comfort a scared child who just watched his parents get murdered. Jim Gordon really is a hero not just to Batman but to Blake as well. He also showed millions of kids that you don’t have to be a billionaire, super strong, fly, or be invincible to be a hero, doing the right thing can inspire anyone to be a hero.
Gary Oldman, he was so good as Gordon. His character was smart, wise, supportive, and empathetic to all around him. TDK, when it is thought that Gordon had been murdered, I cried. Honorable men like Gordon's character are heartbreaking to lose in a film. So glad he wasn't killed, and, his death fabricated, the intention to protect his family made me love him even more. Gordon and Alfred are the wise and moral compasses of these films.
Man I remember this shit like it was yesterday, the whole theater was dead silent when that nuke went off. The cheers when Alfred raises his glass at the cafe, damn, Actually been almost a decade
i love this movie because i remember i was going throw a hard time and i watched this movie and turned it off and knowing that there is still hope in this world

Batman was a symbol for all the children especially the one's passing with a hard time
What I love most about this scene was, even so many years after the event, it didn't take Gordon more than 30 seconds to figure out exactly what, or in this case who, Batman was talking about.
His scarf is even blowing in the wind at that moment...like Batman's cape. A nice touch, and knowing Nolan, not unintentional.
Probably Gordan didn't repeat this gesture to any child victim in his entire life 😂
@@diparnabsen7565no bruce Wayne is just richest kid around the block. Anyone would remember doing him a favour.😊.. may be just to remind him.😅😅. I know Gordon is not kind of person.
I think that was to show that he was competent enough to find out on his own if he wanted to, he just didn't want to out of respect. Like in the comics.

Does Nolan know that thing? 😅
A hero can be anyone. You obviously didn't learn the lesson.

Whaddya talking about? Bruce saw Gordon hundreds of times as they talked on the rooftop???
Its as if he already knew my answer and was just trying to bring me back to humanity, but he was much older then me
2:17 "BRUCE WAYNE" always gives me goosebumps the best superhero movie.
Except for Marion Cottillard's acting when Talia died
Wrong, it was the joker in the dark knight. One of the best performances on film ever!

Absolutely agreed man
Very well and rightly articulated my feelings. Credits to Nolan for writing such a powerful sequence. Hans Zimmer's music should also be credited.
100%. Foremost that's what Batman should be. A hero. Well said.
Norm makes fun of Batmans integral struggle well:
Batmans like am I not as bad as the villains that I try to stop?
No, you’re much much better
That's Bruce's motive in the whole trilogy, to make batman a symbol that can't be incorruptable
Jim Gordon is such a tank he just dosnt give up their was like 4 minutes left on that bomb and he was jumping on the moving truck

Because a hero can be anybody. You don't need superpowers or high tech equipment to become a hero. The will to do the right thing is what makes a hero. And Jim Gordon embodies that spirit in him.

Do people really think that? I like to think that Afflecks films have inferior underwhelming plots, so it’s best to wonder who would have played the role better in this movie/franchise..Bale hands down for mine
"Even doing something as reassuring as putting a coat around a young boys shoulders...to let him know the world hadn't ended."
That line right there sums up everything.
Stealthy Statistician He probably like about to put coat onto another kid then like "wait? I did that to Bruce, sorry buddy"
I'm not identifying myself lol
I'm not identifying myself I'm pretty sure Gordon had his suspicions before and Bruce just confirmed it completely

Not anymore!
Batman can never die. He’s not just a man behind a suit, he’s a symbol, an idea, a story that inspired people to be their own heroes.
“Behind this mask there is more than just flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea...and ideas are bulletproof.”

1:48 that interaction had me in tears in theaters. The acting and music were so beautiful and spot on. 3:00 - 3:19 he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, the dark knight. This moment when he flies over, no words are spoken, just amazement for those who witness him fly out, as he fulfills Gordon's words from the previous film's ending. I struggle to describe how the scene hits but the best way I can say it is like this:
His actions say, "Dont worry little ones, it'll be ok." (Little ones because they are terrified and are children or as little children, having no doubt that the end is near for them)
You see somewhat similar sacrifices (somewhat because he didn't actually die) in other films, Boromir protecting the Hobbits at the end of the Fellowship of the Ring, Tony Stark snap to defeat Thanos and sacrifice himself.
I get tears in my eyes everytime I watch this,Christian bale is the best Batman there ever was
I don't like him as a person but his acting was on point
@@Account-ow6rz as Batman yes, as Bruce Wayne? Nah. Terrible Bruce. Mumbles and can't hear shit what he says.
I liked the Fox character also..
I have watched this movie countless times, but everytime is like the first time! This is the definition of masterpiece to me!
Man I remember this shit like it was yesterday, the whole theater was dead silent when that nuke went off. The cheers when Alfred raises his glass at the cafe, damn, Actually been almost a decade
One of the greatest movie scenes of all time.
Finally, Gordon realized who The Batman is.
That scene stab me in heart!!
1:45 best part
Batman just said “you’ve been my hero all along”
Gary Oldman as Gordon is an absolute highlight of this trilogy.
;i love the switch between a heroic sound track to a sad one at 3:23
Coming back from Dunkirk, this final scene with Batman flying off into the ocean gave me the same feeling at the end of Dunkirk with Tom Hardy.
Thanks for the spoiler, bitch
@@josemanuico5613 idk this made me laugh so hard 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
i love this movie because i remember i was going throw a hard time and i watched this movie and turned it off and knowing that there is still hope in this world
The secret to create a great story is Emotions. Sure plot matters, but emotion is the single ingredient which separates good stories from great stories.
Focus on only one single core theme and single emotion throughout the film and you have masterpiece
I see a beautiful city and a brilliant people rising from this abyss..... and I see the lives for which I laid out my life, peaceful, youthful, prosperous and happy... I see that I hold a sanctuary in their hearts and in the hearts of their descendants... generations hence.... It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done.... It is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known...
The "die without hope line always gets me" line from robin always gets me
