I really like the comparisons and information you provide for the oculus products. My only complaint is comparing the oculus quest to the rift. My assumption is the target audience are for those looking to upgrade from the oculus go to the quest. I really need to know, visually, how it compares to the go. I spend a lot of time using Skybox, NextVR, Samung VR, FaceYourFears, and playing Dead and Buried. Visually, is it an upgrade over the Go?
It will be a sizeable upgrade visually from the go. The biggest upgrade is not in graphics though, it's in the 6 degrees of freedom and hand tracking with the controllers. Both of these things boost immersion in a huge way, and thus upgrade the experience greatly.

Nice that more people can get into VR. My question is if the stuff we all bought for oculus rift (room scale sensors, touch controllers, USB-cards (LOL, what a mess)) will be usable in rift 2.0. I mean starting again from "square one" after the "troublesome USB-issue" asking "early adopters" (comercial rift, not even DK versions) to buy new "everything" might be a hard swallow. in my city their is a science museum of sorts and I went their a few months ago. so one of the things that was present in it was something about train physics. It doesn't have much to do with the story but I thought it funny when you think about it. Now out of the whole 3 story massive complex this (the train place) was the only one that featured any kind of virtual experience. And the experience you may ask, well, it was a five minute demonstration of what it was like to be a train conductor. The coolest part about it was that there was hand tracking and it worked pretty well.

its silly they didnt allow it to connect to pc. 100% their choice to block it. you can use any mobile phone to play pc vr by connecting over usb or wifi using riftcat. its not a great experience but it works. so with a mobile device designed for vr that has a high speed usb c port.... it would be insanely simple for them to allow it... answer= they dont want it to be a rift competitor.
wireless connections to support VR will become available soon enough making this absolete if you have a pc with more powerful hardware than this thing. just wait, you'll get a better more comfortable vr experience in return.

I am wanting to show friends and family more VR, but I am not going to purchase the game 2 or 3 times for different headsets.
Oculus said that game ownership crossover would be a choice made by developers, so I doubt there will be many, if any, crossover titles. It's pretty annoying for customers, but it does make more incentive for developers to port their games.

This will be the game changer for VR, all of my family love my vive and they quite happily make 140 mile round trips to come visit me just to play on it but none of them own PC's and couldn't afford to buy PC's and then a VR set up, however if the Quest does indeed release at $399 (£300) then I can see both my brother and sister buying one for their homes and we'll probably all club together and buy one for mum as well so all four of us can do things together in VR while in our own separate houses.
months ago i was convinced to buy an oculus quest by matpat of game theory fame and your videos on the games coming to it. Im still pumped for it and frankly will be my only big purchase this year. I do think that a standalone gaming system for games that is powerful enough for games, standalone and relatively affordable (i mean its about the price of a console these days) is the key to making it a viable product for people to want to buy.
Quest is going to be awesome, can't wait for the next gen of headsets! Great info Mike, thanks for the update.
This needs VRChat, no matter what

AHHH, i just want an official release date already, stop torturing me oculus
The rumor says that Oculus Quest might release during the F8 developer conference, which is April 30th to May 1st.
@@TJK10Able the only issue i have with that statement is the word rumor, otherwise thanks for the information, it doesn't matter how I phrase it on Google the search engine refuses to give me a finite response.
The Oculus Quest official release date is June 30,2019 just search it up on Bing.com
@@Gavinaugh222 honestly, i think bing might have screwed that one up. I mean I've looked stuff up on google and the "official" answers were pretty bs.
@@taythree5549 The only official information we have is "Spring, 2019." Nothing else. But based on the fact that the Go was released right after the F8 conference last year gives us a pretty good guess that it will release this year between April 30th to May 1st. Whether or not you'll get one that soon is anybody's guess. Pre-orders will likely start then, though.
What do You think that are as closes as one can be in the VR-space?
Great video, they got it right on this one! Day one purchase for me
in my city their is a science museum of sorts and I went their a few months ago. so one of the things that was present in it was something about train physics.
I'm as hyped for Quest as I was for Rift when it initially came out!
I'm so hyped for the quest I simply feel like sueing the company. I've missed two of my university assignments simply because I couldn't get enough of youtube videos about the quest.

I have a gaming pc capable of running VR but the reason I will will choose the quest over the rift is because I really want to be able to take it with me and show other people what VR is like, rather than be limited to playing by myself at home.
Maybe you dont need a pc but will you be able to connect it to your pc wirelessly to watch videos/play bigger games ?
I'm sure wireless connection will be possible via bigscreen/etc.. but you'd need a very good wireless connection
its silly they didnt allow it to connect to pc. 100% their choice to block it. you can use any mobile phone to play pc vr by connecting over usb or wifi using riftcat. its not a great experience but it works. so with a mobile device designed for vr that has a high speed usb c port.... it would be insanely simple for them to allow it... answer= they dont want it to be a rift competitor.
and if they did allow it. this would be an htc vive cosmos competitor.. and it would win. so maybe they should have allowed it...
wireless connections to support VR will become available soon enough making this absolete if you have a pc with more powerful hardware than this thing. just wait, you'll get a better more comfortable vr experience in return.

The Quest will revolutionize the VR-Industry.
Its launching with a snapdragon 835. This years phones are launching with 855. 835 is outdated by 2 years and really only have 2-3 years of support left
I don’t think so, it’s not cheap
I agree and then Xbox is going to copy it
Not really, if you want something revolutionary check out valve’s knuckle controllers, or the haptic suit.
@@aryaemam9847 That may be revolutionary tech but it's not going to revolutionize VR. The problem with VR rn is that it's too damn expensive. Oculus Quest will be the first mainstream, standalone VR headset and will set the precedent for standalone VR and the future of VR.

Another great video. I have been meaning to say this for a long time. Your videos are always very well put together with very good editing, and are very thorough. It aint easy going the extra mile like you always do. You're a AAA content creater for VR news coverage with various topics covered. I hope your subscriber numbers grow substantially. Looks interesting, I have the rift, when the Go came out, was irritated that games that were available for both systems wouldn’t cross over ownership, now with this 3rd headset and that the mobile app now supports rift owners, will they cross over? I am wanting to show friends and family more VR, but I am not going to purchase the game 2 or 3 times for different headsets.
Oculus said that game ownership crossover would be a choice made by developers, so I doubt there will be many, if any, crossover titles. It's pretty annoying for customers, but it does make more incentive for developers to port their games.
Unfortunately, it'll be 3 different platforms. Ridiculous
Personally I intend to make my titles support cross platform ownership. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Honestly, even though I've already got my Rift and PC I'm super excited to see what the Quest can do. Making true 6 DOF VR more accesible to more people means the medium can continue to grow, and that's good for all of us
Skyrim VR? They managed a 720p version on the switch...
If you buy the games for the quest. Will they up loud on to the quest so you don’t have to use your phone or computer to play thoughts games.
Why don't they just add the ability to add a SD/microSD card or something
Because that would make perfect sense 🤦♂️
Are microSD speeds good?
Because it's not that simple. Just do a very basic google search of SSD vs SD and you can see that implementing SD cards in VR might never really be practical. At best it will only be useable for videos, certainly not for game data.
@@DBZHGWgamer I've used them for game data in the past on a Laptop. You might be surprised.
They have decent 512 GB micro SD cards now, that have decent read and write speeds.

I think this headset will break the market.
It's a (relatively) powerful wireless headset that does not have a total cost of 1500-2000$ (like the rift and a powerful PC would cost)
And it's convenient to setup and use.
Well actually you could get a computer that could run the rift for under $800 so that would only be about $1200. And probably cheaper if you tried.
@Dosil900 I was just pointing out that it doesn't need to cost 1500-2000$ not that it is equal price. Some people take thing really weirdly... Maybe that's because I am autistic so I get different meaning out of the things said then others.

Rift is cool but my computer can absolutely not handle VR games and using my phone for VR seems off. This is the future of VR gaming to me and cant wait until it launches : D
