All valid points, good video! You already said it yourself, if you want to experience VR and already own a PS5, go PSVR 2. If you don't, it's easier and cheaper to go for a Quest 3. There's no real winner here, just go according to your preferences as they're both good!

I disagree. Even if you have a PS5 that definitely doesn't make the decision obvious. The psvr plays games. That's it. The quest has ar experiences, can be used as a desktop, and can play games. Most importantly you don't have to be connected to anything. I personally have 0 interest in a headset that requires you to be plugged into something. You can use the quest in any room of your house and can take it with you anywhere. The psvr has the OLED screens which will sometimes have better colors. That's pretty much the main positive.

I use the PSVR2 to play the big IPs. In my opinion RE8 alone is worth the price of the PSVR2. As a second device I use the pico neo 3 to play mods because it performs pretty well (lower res & dp). I'm not interested in other content at the moment, so I'm quiet happy with this combo. PSVR2 has only been out for 8 months people!
How many games have been made exclusively for the Quest 3 again?
Quest 3 is using a mobile phone processor and graphics chipset...peeps forget about this and its NEVER brought up when comparing.

Quest 3 easily takes the crown for me, by a land slide. It's incredible. I have both, but the PSVR2 feels too cumbersome, dated in ways, I hate that it's tethered to a cable, can't stand the fresnel lenses and their tiny sweet spot(etc) and it has no VR eco system, making it feel like an isolating, niche, more shut off half baked depressing experience. Sony dropped the ball, and wasn't all in, clearly. I think Resident Evil Village and RE4 VR mode are incredible, and the headset is worth owning just for those and a few more titles like Moss Book 2 if you don't have a gaming PC, but eh.
The Quest 3 on the other hand feels like one big universal collective livelier cheerful experience thanks to it's wonderful UI, game page profiles and reviews, overall presentation and it even including those incredible VR animation shorts and diaromas that are constantly being submitted by artists and animators , plus the freedom you feel from wireless portable VR is game changing(Ya, i skipped Quest 2), it's premium slim compact form factor and ring-less contorllers are fantastic as well, and the pancake lenses most importantly are amazing. the 2064x2208 + Pancake lenses clarity, Ultra smooth CRT motion, and lack of any weird OLED filter and mura make the image look that much crisp, sharper and cleaner. If only it had OLED-black levels, richer vibrant colours, the VR2's superior haptics 'and' adaptive triggers, plus eye tracking & foveated rendering for better game performance.
And I've got to say, the Quest 3 makes a wonderful companion piece to the Switch OLED. That's the way I'm rolling right now.
Still need to finish up RE4: VR Mode on PSVR2, and i'm sure i'll dive into Vertigo 2 at some point. I just hope Sony whips out a revision fast, because as is, PSVR2 doesn't have a chance at succeeding no matter how many heavy hitters it gets.
But back to Q3, the officail Elite Strap, Silicone interface/Light shield and charging dock are all a must. I just wish i could do away with the top head strap thingy', but it's needed since the front visor is still a little on the heavy side to do being a wireless stand alone.

  • @sanctanox

I have both but I buy games on PSVR2 if they are available on both system because I like the better trophy hunting on PS5, the much better graphics, the better immersion in total darkness (Quest does not isolate sunlight) and the BIGGEST reason: You friends and family can watch what you're doing flawlessly on a TV. The Quest is great for casual games like a handheld. It is ready in seconds and the tracking is great. I also use it for PCVR and for watching videos in VR. So a great combination. VR is not yet big enough to have a war like console A or B against PC etc. - it needs love ;-) to grow until it's a big thing.

I wish I could just wirelessly' connect my Quest 3 to my PS5 instead.
The Q3's sleeker slim form factor, far greater comfort when using the Elite Strap+Silicone User Interface(PSVR2 kills the bridge of my nose.), Pancake clarity, clearer peripheral vision, LARGE sweet spot, the fact that it's wireless which is an absolute game changer for stand-up VR, has ring-less controllers, better motion tracking, incredible blur-free motion clarity, a numbered IPD dial, no god rays, or OLED mura, extremely minimal glare, while also having the edge in resolution, EASILY make it the winner in my eyes, WHEN connected to a high end PC(RTX4090, and soon to be 5090 ;).
PSVR2 however, has greater black levels and richer vibrant colours, eye tracking & FR for more power, superior controller haptics, and is also rocking adaptive triggers. And of course, much more power thanks to the PS5 and soon to be PS5 Pro Enhanced. This is a far more popular, practical, in and out/convenient, affordable, money making method of getting high end VR experiences. PC by comparison feels like a dead end, essentially an uuber niche ghost town that will never be anything but.
Quest 3 Pro which will be landing sometime in 2025 will in fact have a micro-oled display so that solves Q3's black levels and colour issues. ;) Anyways, the PSVR2 in most ways feels like a 5+ year old outdated headset with too many blemishes that have been made more glaringly obvious after owning the Q3 since Christmas. But lets get real here for a second, PC VR is stupidly niche and will never explode. It's too expensive, confusing, anti-plug in play and can feel like a mini ritual getting a game up and running. Too many friction points. I don't even like factoring it to be honest. It's basically Stand alone Quest 3 Vs PSVR2+PS5 at this point.
If only Sony or MS allowed Quest 3 to wirelessy(or wired) connect to either console for more power. :P That would be a game changer instead of being 2.5 generations behind in graphical power with every 3-year Meta Quest headset release. Because lets face it, Sony most likely will NOT give the PSVR2 the proper revision it deserves.

@@darthvaderthegamecat - It's a gimmick if you play things like First Encounters - the packed in Quest 3 game. It absolutely is NOT a gimmick when you come to realise how it can be used. Let me give you some use case examples.
Okay so I play Eleven Table Tennis and I am worried about my dog walking into the room, and kicking the dog by accident or stepping on her.
Also in Thrill of the Fight I am worried about accidentally punching the wall/breaking my controllers.
On FoVR Bowling I am worried about smacking my hand when I run up to bowl on a table near my play space.
On LesMills Body Combat I am worried again about hitting objects near me.
On First Person Tennis, I am worried about going to serve and hitting my ceiling.
^ I have done all these things in the past, whacked my hands into a table, nearly broke controllers by hitting a book case, hit the ceiling, bumped into my dog.
^ None of this can happen again. In Eleven Table tennis I see the table and my room, I see if the dog comes into my room or near me, the way anyone would be playing real table tennis. On the bowling I can see the bowling lane and also see my table, this gives me confidence to really run up and hurl my ten pin bowling ball, knowing exactly where the table is and isn't. On First person tennis, my ball toss/ball goes through the ceiling and as it falls back into the room I hit it, and not my ceiling lol. On LesMills and thrilll of the fight I punch the targets harder and with more accuracy, confident that I am nowhere near anything that would smash the controllers.
Then there are games where I have mapped out my entire house. I have one game where I run around through the kitchen and up the stairs etc, and there are terrorist like dudes and I shoot them, but they are running around my real house and I can see everything and turn a corner and kill guys in my real environment, it's mind blowing and my whole house is the play space. I have a horror game that works the same way, that changes aspects of my real rooms and puts monsters into my house.
      ^ They are NOT gimmicks!!!

Fresnel lenses are nowhere near as good as pancake lenses so that alone is an absolute deal breaker. I own a Quest 2 and a PS5 so my choices are between Quest 3 or PSVR2 for my next VR headset but as PSVR2 uses Fresnel lenses like Quest 2 I doubt I'll ever get one unless it goes on a deep discount. Fresnel is last gen tech in a $500 headset.

Nobody ever points out the difference in motion between the two. PSVR2 has good motion clarity only when the VR Brightness slider dial is cranked down to zero, but then you're left with a miserably dim picture. Quest 3 by default on the other hand is brighter with even smoother motion, it's amazing. Combined with the higher resolution, zero god rays, minimal glare, no oled mura, large sweet spot and pancake clarity make it a big step above PSVR2.
Resident Evil 4 on Quest 3, even without any Q3 update(They really need to bump the resolution up to 2064x2208 already) already produces a much more consistent clearer sharper image than PSVR2's RE4 VR Mode. On PSVR2, RE4 remake really suffers during many of the larger out door areas. They just don't look good, due to the resolution drop and at times, washed out HDR effect.

If you enjoy tinkering with settings to get that optimal settings then thats great but a lot of people just want to turn on their headset and play. To each their own and if you have the time and a pc to play vr then thats great and i am sure its amazing. Not to mention mods which add to the experience. However, for a fair comparison you have to factor in the additional cost and possible extra setup time. Every way you play vr has its pros and cons and whichever works best for you is great.

Two points to consider. One, with the PSVR2 you still have the option with many games to play outside of VR if the VR environment gets to be too much. Two, with the announcement from Sony to make the PSVR2 PC compatible this year, it might elevate this option far beyond the value you would get from the Quest.

October 2016. It was Midnight and I was among a small few who waited outside a local Best Buy to purchase the original PSVR during launce. This was truly state of the art. During that time I hosted a handful of VR parties to introduce family and friends to Virtual Reality. My #1 choice was to have them experience Ocean Decent (Shark Encounter) on the PlayStation VR Worlds disc. It was awesome fun watching everyone’s reaction to the experience. I probably would have stayed a loyal Sony customer, but after using the Quest 2 and now the Quest 3, I could never go back to PSVR. The quality of the Quest 3 and the wireless content it can play is a total game changer. I’m really looking forward to seeing what Meta and the Quest 4 will offer us in the future. Being tied to 2 platforms not only is good for diverse library and titles but ensures the device is futureproof, after it's lifespan games will not be compatible to the psvr2 but can't say the same for the MQ3. PS Subscription for online play is also a detriment to longevity and cost after it's lifespan servers are gonna close. you can't say the same for pcvr/quest platform. Yeah this changes things because now PSVR2 can not only give all the Playstation experiences but all that PC stuff That Quest can play as well.
Hearing that it made me check PSVR2 again and it seems right now is on sale so I jumped on it. Being able to experience those great Playstation titles and at the same time play Half-life Alyx on it is just amazing.
The cables are still an issue though but sorry to say the 2hours at best Quest manages are not something that makes me see it as true wireless.

It is like comparing apples to oranges and it almost makes no sense. Once you have tasted the sweet taste of wireless and standalone there is no turning back. Looking at the overall game library PSVR2 mostly have quest ports, which are more annoying to play - cable, ps5 etc. Furthermore you need to pay the usual online tax for online experiences. Only a very few upsides to PSVR2 - screen is OLED and a few awesome exclusive games. If these select few games is all you are after, then by all means - PSVR2, but 95% of people would be better off with the Quest 3 - or even the Quest 2.

Just a few things to consider:
PSVR2 - 120hz does NOT stem from the hardware, it is game dependent just like the Quest 3.
However at the moment, most games listed at 120hz on PSVR2, are reprojection 120hz, which is actually worse than 90hz native, NOT better!!! I own a number of games on my PSVR2 which are 120hz reprojection, Call of the Mountain, Gran Turismo 7 etc. If left on default brightness, this can cause bad frame-tearing, if the brightness is lowered it is not as bad, but 120hz reprojection is a fake 120hz mode which is inserting fake frames in every other frame. It is better than 60hz but much worse than 90hz.
There are many more games on Quest 3 that run at a native 120hz mode, though they can be heavy on the battery.
PSVR2 can run some bigger triple A games that Quest 3 likely cannot run, as much as anything because of two factors, the cpu and gpu power of the PS5, and the size of the games in terms of storage.
So Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake (not out yet). Would not be possible on Quest 3 stand alone.
Only possible on Quest 3 via PCVR and PC/steam.
PSVR2 has the worst frame persistence out of ALL the modern VR headsets by a long way. High frame persistence makes motion sickness MUCH more likely. There is a way to mitigate this by turning the brightness right down, but this takes the HDR/brightness advantage of the headset and tosses it into the dustbin, and even with lowered brightness, the PSVR2 still has much worse frame persistence than Quest 3.
Identical games played, and one on the PSVR2 can cause motuon sickness for players who don't fully have their VR legs, and on the Quest 3 the same person can have no issue at all.
Then again, if a player has their VR legs, the PSVR2 is a much brighter headset, and the blacks are much deeper/pure. Contrast is superior etc
In clarity though the Quest 3 wins by a mile. Quest 3 is a far superior headset in terms of clarity of image, far better in terms of edge to edge clarity and far superior in terms of sweetspot!
PSVR2 has the edge in texture/asset quality.
Quest 3 is a modular headset, PSVR2 is NOT. So comfort, battery life etc can all ve changed with Quest 3, with PSVR2 you had better like it, as you are stuck with it.
    Quest 3:
Strap - a range of comfort options, everything from halo to clamshell designs. Facial inserts can be removed, washed, a choice of materials, silicon to cloth, leatherette etc. Batteries - all kinds of options.
If you feel uncomfortable with the feel of a PSVR2 - tough! I would NOT use a PSVR2 for any energentic games as you can't swap out any facial insert, what you sweat into is staying there to stink! My PSVR did this, I never got the smell out and the rubber Sony use started to rot/fall apart!!! I will not use my PSVR2 for Pistol Whip or Beat Saber etc for this reason.
Batrery - PSVR2 is wired, but the controllers die from full power to zero in 4 hours!!!
It is possible via a power bank or a variety of batteries for the Quest 3 to never run out of battery and the controllers last weeks!
Talking of modular design. The controllers on PSVR2 are very good in some ways, very good haptics, but...
Nowhere near as good as the pro controllers that can be paired with the Quest 3!!! They have 3 cameras and a cpunin each controller and self track.
Mixed Reality is becoming a big deal in various games - it doesn't and never will exist in PSVR2.
PSVR2 - It is possible to plug in peripheral like a force feedback steering wheel with pedal, and a gear stick - none of this is happening on Quest 3 stand alone - only via PCVR and PC/Steam library.
Eye tracking allows for foeveated rendering, but very few games employ this, it is game dependent!
Some games do feature eye tracking in menus and for game play mechamics and it can be cool when used well, Quest 3 will never have true foeveated rendering, and will never have eye tracking mechanics in games.
Quest 3 has a massive library compared to PSVR2, not bigger VASTLY greater!!!
Quest 3 isn't just a gaming system!!! It has chat/communities/animation studio/exercise titles way beyond the PSVR2, waaay more musical apps. It has video players/film players, it has work and productivity apps, live sports etc etc.
Quest 3 has a fantastic returns policy, PSVR2 has ZERO returns policy. Games are generally more expensive and sometimes massively more expensive on PSVR2.
Quest 3 has proper onboarding and a real VR UI/UX. PSVR2 piggybacks off the PS5 UI which can be a pain in the rear.
Gran Turismo 7 alone can make the PSVR2 worth it ahead of the Quest 3 for those wanting to buy a racing rig, if they do not own a serious gaming PC, to connect a Quest 3 to.
I own both headsets like both for different reasons and games.

Nice supplemental run-down of the two! One edit I would make is that PSVR2 can be modified with a comfort kit (e.g. GLOBULAR CLUSTER) that will allow for removal and washing of padding, and only costs around US $50.

@@CHROME-COLOSSUS - I don't own that kit, but I have bought a cover to go over the rubber material, it cost me about £30 UK. It can be washed, but it is a bit awkward. I use it, but stay away from the energetic type of games, so no sweat is getting through to the rubber material as that degraded on my PSVR original. I just have my cover to protect the system. As you can see from my list I play more sedentary games on my PSVR2, I prefer it over my Quest 3 for games like Red Matter 1&2 and Moss 1&2 etc, I got 7th Guest also on the PSVR2 - these games have better graphics on this system, so that's where I play them. The Quest 3 is just so much easier for sweaty games, because I can just take out my silicon facial insert and wash it or whatever, or just wipe it down, if it ever broke it wouldn't matter as I have a cloth facial insert and I guess worst case scenario I would just buy another silicon cover etc. The fact that the PS5 is powering the graphics makes for better experiences in certain titles for sure, but also the lack of a wire connection on Quest 3 also goes hand in hand with more energetic games, no chance of catching a wire! Ohh by the way I strongly recommend anyone buying a PSVR2 to buy a little magnetic usb connector, to connect your PSVR2 to that, and plug that into the PS5, that way if you accidentally tug the wire, instead of it possibly damaging your PS5 or PSVR2, it will just slip out of the system via the magnetic disconnect. Such things cost anywhere between a few pounds/dollars upto about 10 pounds/dollars. Well worth it for the peace of mind, any wire pull will damage nothing 👍

@@bandsmanmurphyslaw8627 - The original Resident Evil 4 game can be brought and played on Quest 3 stand alone and it is a great game, just the graphics are a bit old, and it has not as yet been updated from the Quest 2 graphics. PSVR2 has Resident Evil Village which is graphically fantastic, also PSVR2 is getting the Resident Evil 4 remake for VR and again that will be leaps and bounds better graphically. Resident Evil Village is a free VR update, but if someone doesn't own the game, they have to buy the regular game on PS5, the same will be true for Resident Evil Remake. I own Resident Evil Village, it's fantastic in VR. I own Resident Evil remake, but have not played it/won't play it until the VR mode comes out. I suppose it makes these games expensive, but they are big modern triple A games in VR. The original Resident Evil game goes for between 18-29 pounds UK on the Meta store. It is still a very good game, though it would be nice if Capcom updated it for Quest 3. Some people have bought an app called Quest Optimiser, and increased the resolution of games including Resident Evil themselves, that's possible. Also if someone has a very good gaming PC, they can play the whole PCVR library via steam, and so I guess then they can play Resident Evil Village and Remake etc when that comes out. I do not game on my PC, that's just for work and always compiling stuff, for me, it is just Quest 3 standalone and PSVR2 via PS5. Though I still own my Quest 2 and PSVR original lol.

Technically correct & I agree with most of the points you make, but quite a misleading Video. Focusing on resolution and FOV, portability and available games does not give anyone watching this a realistic idea of both headsets. I have both, as well as a rift and rift s. I feel you are swaying people more to the quest 3. But the real difference between the 2 headsets is in the processing and GPU power and quality of games Available. It's all very well having a sharp image, but of lower quality reduced texture and lighting. Eg take a games available on both headsets like Starwars TOGE, Walking dead, Arizona Sunshine 2 or Moss. They are so much better on PSVR2.

Yes the PSVR2 is cabled and requires a PS5 and has fresnal lenses, but the fidelity of the games blows the quest out the water. GT7, RE4, Synapse, no mans sky, Kayak Vr & Horizon. The only way the quest can get to that quality of game is to be used as a PCVR headset, which realistically you need a $2000 Gaming pc to run. Which I have with a RTX4070. But I find myself enjoying games more on PSVR2 as I don't have to spend time mucking about with settings & ODT. If you already own a PS5 I think it makes more sense to get PSVR2.

I like the idea of all-in-one headset. And I think they ARE the future, but right now I feel the balance of power and battery life is too big of a hurdle! Having a device that is directly connected to a console/PC just works better, cause your graphical capabilities aren't constrained, and neither is your time playing them! With an all-in-one, you are VERY limited by battery life, and the performance/graphical fidelity can only be so good. I'll consider something like the Meta quest 3 once the tech advances to match that of a PC, while offering at least 6 hours on a charge!

I'll get a Quest 4 if it can match my PSVR 1 graphically without the need to buy a $1K+ PC.....til then I'll stick with Sony

I need some honest advice. Console gaming/pc gaming is feeling kinda boring the last couple of months. Till GTA6 comes out I need something new in my life..😂 Should I get the PS5 VR2 or a steam deck?

What kind of games are you playing? And do you play any competitive games? Or just solo type stuff?

If gaming is feeling a bit tired for you, VR will definitely spice things up.
