  • Barbara Jo Davis made Black history when she was hired by General Mills in 1968 to work as Betty Crocker. Davis had a hand in developing Hamburger Helper, welcomed tours to the test kitchens, and worked in publishing. She even traveled the nation to work with homemakers in their kitchens to refine recipes and products.

Love it! All I know is that Betty Crocker couldn't be that lady on the cookbook. So here I am baking a pie at 10 p.m. and researching Betty Crocker while I do so! Haha!

Betty Crocker is a Concept; Ms. Barbara Jo Davis says she got her first 'Betty Crocker' book at age 14, then became a 'Betty Crocker' in their test kitchen.

When I feel a bit down baking makes me happy. I learned that when I bake something delicious for others, it feeds my own soul.

Betty Crocker isn’t a real woman. It’s just a character that the company made up. She was part of the test kitchen home economics so I imagine she did contribute a lot to the company.
