  • Anthony Mason takes us inside the history of General Mills, the sixth-largest food company in the world. What began 150 years ago as a flour mill, and which created the first-ever radio jingle, now sells hundreds of brands, and is behind such marketing icons as Betty Crocker and the Jolly Green Giant.

    If only SEARS could follow their business concept -- Adapt to change

      **Eddie Lampert and his cohorts have systematically 'robbed/raped/pillaged/and
      burned 'Sears' since day-one of his 'Chairmanship'...the Sears business model was trusted and proven for 126-years but could not survive deliberate cancer
      from inside.

      I hope Sears can rebound back but now it is a miracle if that ever happens.

    Little known fact: General Mills partnered with DiC to syndicate the Dennis the Menace animated series and the original Sailor Moon english dub.

    • @fromthesidelines
      @fromthesidelines 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Their advertising agency, Dancer-Fitzgerald-Sample, syndicated those series through "DFS Program Exchange" {which also syndicated repeats of "ROCKY AND HIS FRIENDS", "THE BULLWINKLE SHOW", "TENNESSEE TUXEDO AND HIS TALES", "THE UNDERDOG SHOW", et. al.}...and featured two minutes of General Mills advertisng (mostly their cereals) per episode. And those series were distributed to local stations FREE, on a barter basis [they scheduled the shows and commercials, and got the other four minutes per episode to sell to their own advertisers, keeping the profits].

    1:16- That competitor was QUAKER OATS, who claimed they had the exclusive rights to use the word "oats" as a trademark. A lawsuit was finally avoided when "Cheerioats" became *"CHEERIOS"* in 1945.

    0:37- Green Giant was originally a product of the MInnesota Valley Canning Company {created in 1903}- which changed its name to Green Giant in 1950. Pillsbury merged with it in 1999......and General Mills acquired Pillsbury in 2001.

    There may be more to the story here. The original Betty Crocker was a child. This was not her real name but was given that name by her uncle, I believe. Her likeness was used on packaging, and if I recall the information correctly, it was flour. I'm a little hazy on details, but I actually met "Betty Crocker" and she related the story of her uncle and the use of her likeness and the assumed name. She described where she lived in Yankton, South Dakota. I talked with her about 30 years ago and she said she was 75 years old. I wonder if General Mills has any knowledge of this history? I am quite sure that this woman's story was real. Unfortunately, I met her only once and my conversation with her was fairly brief. Others in her community whom I trusted, verified her story.

    It's sort of interesting that the Ox Eyes recipe in the old Betty Crocker cook book did not involve actual Ox Eyes (as the archivist made a point of saying "They used everything", after showing the brains recipe). It's just an egg inside of toast.

    • @vincegay986
      @vincegay986 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gerry Nightingale They should show nothing. There is neither a feature nor a hard news story here, just a “value-added” free commercial for a big advertiser, unconvincingly disguised as journalism. And yeah, I’m sure wire reports would have done a great job of conveying what the Blitz was doing to England. And never mind Watergate scoops or Vietnam troop-strength undercounts. Those were all up on billboards, with no help from CBS News, right? Bygone days.

      I wouldn't eat an iron bar but you have iron in your blood as I type this. You have calcium in your bones. You have nitrogen in your DNA. Hi dude. Humans are made out of the stuff of this Universe. I don't believe a trace amount of TSP is deadly or else we'd be dropping like *dialtone*

    I assure you, even with the beat up furniture and items in there, it is a "Safe House" and you probably were "seen". Safe houses like this are typically looking a bit shabby, unclean and "abandoned". But there in lies the excellent lie. A great camouflaged house that does not seem to be "secure". The problem with young people nowadays, is that they don't think of the unlikely, they don't ask questions when they see something.
