What would the resistance be of the sensor when it's installed in the engine cold? Engine hasn't run at all and the resistance between points is at 53.5 ohm and between point and ground resistance is at 72.5
can I just unplug the front sensor plug if I think this is malfunctioning? Never gets under 50F/10C here. Getting high HC on smog test, perhaps this is hurting me.
Hey @CartuneNZ I have a problem starting my 1992 LS400. The starter turns the engine, it has fuel and air in it, but f I crank it for about 10 seconds it only starts on 5-10 try. If I spin it for just 1 second, it starts on the second try. What's going on here? I'm running out of ideas
Hi Kelvin, enjoy your videos, really great. My soarer has developed the following issue and l am wondering after watching this video if it could be the injector timer? The engine will start but cuts out within 10 seconds. You have to do the process atleast 4 times and then the engine idles fine. Any ideas as to what it may be. The car is a 1991 UZZ31. Thanks, David
I would be doing the normal diagnoses. Checking the ignition and fueling , checking for air leaks and idle system and looking at ECU possibilities. Cheers Kelvin

Usually I like a squirter but I got too much squirt in my lube. Is it possible my cold start injector is leaking (maybe the circuit malfunctioned?) or is it most likely my 8 dirty squirters I'm servicing at the moment. She's got a rich personality lately too. 93' SC400
@@68pishta68 they were shot. I was able to replace them and the oil stopped smelling like gasoline. That however was not the main issue it had lol it still ran rich and had almost no power...can't wait to buy another SC!!
Hi Kelvin, Looking at the SC400 wiring diagram for the cold start injector circuit, I have determined that it is impossible for the ECU to fire the cold start injector. The timer switch and cold start injector get their power from the starter relay which is powered only while cranking, and the cold start injector timer switch sits between the injector and ground, to prevent the cold start injector from running when starting the engine when it's already warm. There are two wires which go to the ECU: one continues on directly from the starter relay to tell the ECU the starter is cranking; and the other from the timer switch to tell the ECU if the cold start injector is running. Being that in order for the ECU to fire the cold start injector, power would need to be applied to the start circuit, which would in turn cause the starter to crank, it is impossible for the ECU to run the cold start injector. I wasn't able to find the circuit diagram for the LS400, but having pulled apart the loom it looks like it's wired the same way.
The cold start timer is the trigger for the cold start injector at low temps and the ecu triggers the injector over the temp threshold. The ecu definately is able to trigger the cold start injector on starting.
I seem to have info which you don't have. I have the toyota diagnostic for the cold start circuit. Little bit of logic, its a starting injector, so it only needs to work on starting, its not a running injector so doesn't need to work once the engine is running. It is not linked in with any other injectors, it has its own circuit. I keep other information for my customers which purchase my wiring instructions. Im even happy to provide the advanced sheets if they require them for there own knowledge. Cheers
@@CartuneNZYea, that was the logic that made me question the ECU using the CSI at "other times", as you said in the video. Now that I know you meant while cranking and temp is not below threshold, it makes total sense. A little background... not that you probably care, but... I'm putting an early LS400 engine into a late 2nd gen 4runner, which is getting converted to MT, but the engine came with a cut loom and no ECU, so I've found an SC400 ECU and pigtail... It's definitely the hard way to go, but I like a challenge. STJ is the wire missing from my SC400 diagram. I just need to figure out which pin that is on my ECU. The diagram I have (which is probably from an aftermarket repair manual) shows it looping back to pin 5 of my starter relay, which would have resulted in a short circuit through the cold start timer switch. (Glad I caught that!) It's the last wire I need to figure out, so it's probably not worth buying the instructions. Worst case scenario, I'll leave it out, since the cold start timer will operate the CSI when it's really needed, and that should be 'good enough'. I'd like to make it work 100% proper, but oh well. I would love to know more about how the wiring in the loom differs from the diagram as you mentioned in the video, and the reasoning behind why you wire it according to the diagram for manual transmissions and the unknown way for auto... but I suppose that's probably privileged information too... luckily, I'm mating mine to an MT, so I don't really need to know... I just find it super interesting.
