Yeah, it comes off but it needs to be done by a professional and isn't a "serviceable" user part. It's going to be pricey but you'll remember it so regular maintenance and filter changes will get more attention moving forward to prevent the machine from breaking down prematurely.

Your evaporator plating is coming off. It may make ice but you have metal in it.
Replace that evap plate or system immediately. You could possibly be drinking metal
