I had a phearable stage 3 and 4 before my Type R Turbo (I'm close to sea level 300ish feet above), and found my Knock Control on 93 with Stage 3, never really crept above .6 unless I have really poor gas. Stage 4 with E35 mix, the highest I saw was .85 doing some roll racing due to REALLY and I mean REALLY bad 93. Added in some Shell 93 and a bit more Ethanol and never creeped above .6ish either On Type R custom tune, I rarely see it go above .55 nowadays. OTS tune definitely has a bit of safety built in, once you go custom for your application, it tends to stay pretty low in my experience.
I've found my numbers jump at around 80mph as well. I'm not bashing the Phearable tune, its decent for OTS but its just not great to run hard. I have found that the 91 *version* of the stage 3 tune is much more consistent and the power difference is noticeable but honestly not by much. I've had my numbers JUMP, and I mean JUMP to 1.1 one time on the 93 version, last time I ever touched that tune.

It's pulling timing to protect the engine only after it's experienced an event(s) that in itself has the potential to damage / have damaged the engine.
I noticed kcon rises a lot of times when on the wrong gear. For example being on gear 10 on a 10 speed automatic on the freeway and putting the pedal to the metal. I am fbo on e30-35 10 speed and stage 2 ktuner
I'd like to see if "TORCO F500010T Unleaded Fuel Accelerator" would help with your k.con on the drag strip. (Probably too costly to use on a daily basis). I use it to bump 93 octane up to 97 in my 1990 Mustang 5.0 with a NON-intercooled supercharger running at 9 to 10 psi on a custom tune. I add 16 ounces to 10 gallons of 93. Torco says that ratio adds 4 points to the octane.
I’m running 93 with phearable stage 3 and I get upward .7 k cont. add 1 gallon of E85 and get .5. It’s definitely helped my numbers. Looking forward to seeing what the tires do for wheel spin issue.
@@TheLemonFactor I would say spirited driving. Not even really punching it hard but getting .7. The gallon of e85 works. Just isn’t available everywhere so not an option for some people.

Hi Chad great analyst of the k.con number base on fuel ans situation. I think it might be good to also do what you did with the stock tune. Run 91 gas on stock tune and monitor the k.con on each of the 4 situations you presented (norm, spirited, 0-60, & 1/4) and analyze to find delta between stock 91 and stage 3(93) tune 91 gas, stage 3(93) tune 91E gas and stage 3(91) tune 91 gas. You have most of this data if not all. BTW can't wait for the wheel reveal video, I'm sure it gonna look awesome 😎
You’re right, I do have all that data except for the track runs when stock. They all fall between 0.49 and mid 0.50s. The video is coming with the new wheels. It drives much different than before 👍
You're not alone, I just sold my 9th gen but around 75-85mph my kcount would rise and the more i was in it the more it would rise. It would only rise that high if i was starting from a low speed but if i started from 70mph on the highway and went to 130 i was ok. Not sure whats going on there but id like to know too.

I'd recommend sticking with Pherable's 91 tune, as the difference isn't that significant from a power standpoint, while also providing you with the extra protection.

Chad, What Ktuner quick adjustment and quick enables do you have set at? Asking because my Kcon seems to jump around a lot on stage 2 with quick spool enabled and all the quick adjustments set to max. It always goes back down to .49 after feathering the throttle on the highway but it’s rather annoying watching it rise by .05-.1 after every wot pull with minimal to zero knock events being recorded
I believe (but I’d have to go back and check) that everything is set at or close to the most aggressive settings, except for the one that says “race only”.

Off topic, do you have any info on proper engine oil? Running e35 on my accord and have been recommend by multiple people to switch to 5w-30. I’m in Cali, so not sure if the higher temps make a difference. I know the manual says 0w-20 so figured I’d ask.
I don’t know why you would run a different oil because you’re running E35. 🤷♂️. With that said, I’ve heard people switching oil, but personally wouldn’t recommend deviating from the OEM recommendation (long story).
If you run E on the regular it will thin out the oil and you might experience a leak at the valve cover as a result. It really depends how often you run E and beat the car.
@@glossking3570 you run more fuel using E. Anything unburnt gets cycled into the oil thinning it out. Do a quick Google and you will find more info. I'd say just keep an eye on the oil and check for yourself.
What does kcon mean at all? What's the upper bound and lower bound for "normal"? Some people say 0 is what you want, but I don't think that's possible.
Im getting .88 k on start up and stays there im about to reflash to stock, do full maintenence on the car as its at 50k miles, ive been using 93 but im starting to suspect that its the fuel
No I do not I switched gas stations , between the 91 and 93 tune, tried mishimoto, k&n, and now prl hvi v2 intake, I have a mishimoto intercooler, put different spark plugs in and haven't seen much improvement I'm thinking fuel pump, I don't want to custom tune until I swap turbo and do flex fuel
I’ve been in phearable stage 3 for about 2 weeks now (91 version) my conclusion so far is that Cali gas is TRASH. I haven’t seen anything under .63 at all times and even during small pulls it would jump like crazy to upwards of .75. One time even .83 and I just flashed back to stock so wouldn’t deal with it. Would you say it’s worth just getting a custom tune? Or wait to do bigger upgrades and just stay in stock tune for now ? Thanks!
Same issue for me. Normal cruising hangs around 0.70, but wot pushes .80. I am currently running Stage 2 on 91 Octane. I flashed back to stock and found that it was still hanging around 0.70 stock. Ill try to find some 94 Octane next
@@SpyToeMan I actually flashed back to stage 3, but have been using 1.25 gallons of E85 and the rest 91. It stays at .49 for the most part and won’t go over .54 with hard pulls. I’d recommend it if you’re able to get E85 I’ve been running it for 4 months.

@@Jrhymee14 I’ve actually been running stage 2 with ethanol enabled (e30-e35) for going on 9 months. Pretty reliable and rock solid numbers. When I was stage 3 I tried filling up at Shell, Chevron, Valero, and even Costco 91. All had crazy unstable numbers for me. I’m in the Monterey area for reference.
Can someone tell me what is a normal amount of k count cause I tend to see some drives like to work for example I’ll get 3 knocks in a 40 minute drive and the other day it went to 3 immediately after starting. And then I think I saw it go to like 8-9 in a span of say 30 minutes so is that bad? Don’t wanna damage my car I have the regular Ktuner stage 2 I have a PRL HVI and a Borla exhaust nothing else aside from those mods. Should I get any more

Phearable suggested to put in 3 gallons of e85 and said it was perfectly fine for the car. any comment? would upgrading to the PRL intercooler reduce the numbers ? that’s something i haven’t done yet
Upgrading the Intercooler is a great modification but unless you’re intake temps are running really high it probably won’t impact the k.con numbers that much. Have you considered getting a custom tune?
It will make you feel better about the other tunes. I saw mid 80s. Switched back to KTuner stage two with premium, I was back at 53 max. 87 and 93 from the same gas station. Makes me think the engine was designed for premium.

At 6:39, how come your only getting up to 17psi? I have phearable stage 3 93 octane and I’m getting up to 22-24 psi full throttle. Elevation maybe?
yeah hes like 6k above sea level i think, when i was in CO i didnt even touch 20 psi

Hey chad, noticed your 0-60 run around 6:47, are you stage 3 tune at that time or stock tune as your psi only goes to about 16-17psi

I wouldn't be too concerned about the K.count. Although it is a count of events, the events may not be knock. I would focus on the K.con readings.

No, I did not have the flex fuel kit installed. Remember, in the example I provided, I only added 1-1.5 gal of E85 to a full tank of 91 octane.

KCon rises to stop knocking. Your car is protecting itself by the knock control rising. If it stays there I would be concerned.
