I'm 6' 7, 265 pounds. I have 2" risers and 1" lowering pegs wind shield at maximum factory height.
This is the best mod ever on a '22. Made it a whole new bike.

Good job explaining this Tim. Totally agree. The bike is a keeper now. I always thought the fuel mapping was way off. The bike is so smooth now. I feel totally relaxed riding with this mod. I will never go back to stock setup.

I just tried this bypass. Was very excited to try it. My KLR still Jake brakes. Was hoping for a smoother deceleration but still bucks me when I let off. Also don’t like the fact it will start with the bybass if you accidentally have it in first. Oh well. I’ll continue stock!!

New 2023 KLR owner here……I might have to try this mod, read about it on the KLR forum and the consensus seems to be that this mod makes the bike much ride much differently/smoother. Great video and thank you for posting.

hook it back up and ride it and you will see it does nothing. This whole thing is in your head. It's designed to bump the throttle just a you are letting out on the clutch, I had a few stalls and finally realized the problem, so I reattached the switch an issue solved and no I couldn't tell any difference in the smoothness of the engine. If someone hooks it back up and doesn't tell you, you will never know.

@@eminiscalperpro9729 so it doesn’t eliminate the engine braking? I have found that the TCFC is abrupt, especially at speed. Throttle Closed Fuel Cut.

@@Ghostrider-71 i liked the engine braking, I used it to my advantage. if on the highway at higher speeds, yes the abrupt engine braking is noticeable if you chop the throttle. To my knowledge the bypass does not stop this. I may be wrong. it's a thumper, it's going to have engine braking. who knows, try it and see if it helps, otherwise in general riding, I saw no real change, other than a few times where it stalled due to the rpms dropping to low, once a stop light just as I'm releasing the clutch and a couple times at low speeds, i think I was at a low speed and pretty much idling and I can't remember if I was letting out on the clutch to start to accelerate and it died. Due to the computer is supposed to bump the throttle just as you are letting out on the clutch, which doesn't happen if the switch is bypassed. so experiment and see. I just hooked mine back up and all was well. I don't currently have the bike, but will be getting another one soon

@@eminiscalperpro9729 yes, I don’t mind the engine braking. I have found with slow smooth throttle closure, the engine braking isn’t as abrupt. I am hesitant to bypass anything on the bike, so for now I will just leave it alone.

@@eminiscalperpro9729yeah, just tried it a few minutes ago. Took it around the neighborhood and still Jake brakes. Also seemed I had to throttle it a bit when coming close to a stop. No thanks. I’ll deal with the braking. I just don’t like it when I’m on gravel and standing then it bucks me forward.

I was curious so I did the mod about a week ago. For me, and my style of mostly road, urban commuting, it made the bike so much smoother to ride. The abrupt on/off throttling was gone, less engine braking at higher rpm but just better for city stop and go traffic. I used a 15amp mini fuse, instead of trimming the prongs I used someone else's recommendation of just twisting them 90 degrees. Fit and worked like a charm.

Thanks for the video. I took my 2023 KLR out for a ride yesterday for the first time, and I found that the snatchy / abrupt throttle is absolutely ridiculous. I am doing this mod asap! I have owned and test ridden a lot of EFI motorcycles, but the KLR is the worst for snatchiness that I have ever experienced. I absolutely love the bike otherwise.

@Fulltimedad90 I have had the bike for about 13 months now, and with a little over 4000 miles, I have not had any problems with the mod. I am thinking about making it switchable because there are times that some engine braking is needed. Doing this mod does eliminate some engine braking.

  • @eminiscalperpro9729
    @eminiscalperpro9729 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

The klr is designed so that as you are releasing the clutch lever the rpms bump up slightly. I did this bypass and a few times I had a stall issue, once at a stop light. I hooked the switch back up and the issue never happened again. There is no reason for this mod, it is all in your head. The jerky throttle or whatever they call it, will go away once you ride the bike a few times, I think it's more that you become use to it. First time I rode mine it felt this way but then it went away, I guess I got use to it. I unhooked and re-hooked the switch several times and there is no difference. Yes if you are riding it and you chop the throttle you will get some engine breaking, but the clutch bypass has nothing to do with it

I love the mod. I almost sold the bike after owning it one week. I don't understand why Kawasaki installed the annoying engine braking clutch switch. Great Channel & Videos, very helpful. I just bought a Gen 3 KLR. would Like to get your opinion on why you chose the T-rex Bars over the Tusk Bars? and also why the T-rex center stand over the Happy Trail Center stand? i'm lookin at purchasing the Tusk bars and happy Trail center stand. curious if there is any reasons not to go with those two choices? thanks

So on the T-Rex bars I just thought they offered more protection and more cross bracing than anything else on the market. I feel they are the most durable most well designed and probably the sturdiest ones there are.
On the Happy trails center stand I will not give that company any more of my money. I think they have deceiving business practices they hold your money hostage while your stuff is on back order for months and months. I regret giving them the money that I already have. I think they make fine products I just don't like their business practices. And that Casey Ralls that runs the company now or is the face of the company is a snake in the grass. I was disappointed in the service I received when I ordered my products and when I disclose my dissatisfaction with my service they simply blocked me from their social media outlets.

@@2talltimadventuresahhh, I’m not the only one. They did this shit without any warning for their extended shift lever. I ordered it and once I paid, it suddenly wasn’t available for a rough estimate of 3 months…. And I found a thread on some site where the exact same thing for the same lever happened to someone else with the exact timelines a year ago. So it very much in my book was the company being okay with not warning customers that they wouldn’t get their part for months. If it’s been happening for years and people are complaining, most companies would notify the customers on the product page or something… the response I got when I complained was a very un-concerned one from Happy Trails… they didn’t even acknowledge my complaint. Just refunded me.

I am really confused.... That made such a huge difference. I hated the fact that my KLR felt like it had a Jake brake on it, now that I bypassed it, it is like a new bike, so much smoother. I guess it would be kind of interesting to rig it up to like the pass light momentary switch for those times you do feel like having a jake bake on your KLR HAHAHAHA. Has anyone figured out what Kawa was trying to do with this? I can't think of any reason you would want that much engine braking on a KLR, when I first got the bike I thought something was wrong with it. Ohh what I wanted to say, Is there any reason I would want to put like a rubber plug inside there to prevent corrosion? is there any scenario in which I would ever want to plug it back in?

    • @2talltimadventures
