  • There are several switches on a modern bike that prevents it from starting. The clutch switch is one of them. I tell you why you should not bypass it, what it does and how to change it.

    Ive had a issue with mine for a little while. I knew there was a problem so i had a look. I took mine off and cleaned it, as he said a light came on the edu. I found that on mine the little plate behind the lever was dirty, i cleaned it and it looks ok hopefully. I took a quote from a main dealer, i was gobsmacked when he told me the price, i thought it was made out of gold. So people who has the problem shop around and don't get ripped off.

  • @Tenerisius
    @Tenerisius ปีที่แล้ว

    I had the same issue with my GS's and my old Tenere.
    Years ago with my XTZ660 1996 model, once with a 2004 GS model and once now with my 2014 LC. On this model, it is impossible to change the drive modes on the go by clutching, when the switch is defekt. I had to pay 85€ at the BMW dealership because I was abroad on my summer vacation.I knew it before but I thought it would not be a big issue. Wrong!Every board crossing, every stalling in traffic with a fully loaded bike, and every weather condition change, was there to remind me that I have to fix this as soon as possible before my journey back home.

    I think it would be wise to carry a set of switches with one out to the middle of the no where world. (East Kentucky, USA). OTR is a great site. I bought a lot of items for mine. They did great on my Ohlins F/R suspension. Others missed the mark. I've had friends stuck for days on the salt flats unable to get their KTM's to start because of salt in the side stand switch with hardly anyway to bypass it. Not good. Thanks Robert. That's great to know Robert. I buy a lot of parts from Off the Road. That and the side stand switch are two parts one needs to always carry. My friends on KTM were stranded on the Bolivian salt flats for a week because of their sidestand switch. It was a big issue for them not so much on the T700. Now I have in hand a quick shift for the street version CP2 engine I believe MT7 something like that. Have you experienced anyone putting it on a T700. I haven't tried it yet myself. It works up but not down. I wonder if the CPU is compatible. Take care. Dry trails to you

    Irregular I do watch your channel. I really like that you are authentic.
    As an simple example I remember that you change the wheels ballbearings.

    Not really arguing with you but I do not see how clutch movement can tell the ECU what gear the transmission is in.

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I mean if you bypass the switch the ECU will think you are in constant neutral, even if you have a gear in. You will get the neutral-mapping always. This will give you a worse fuel flow and timing when riding.

    • @hazcat640
      @hazcat640 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NomadSweden I understand what you are saying. What I am saying is how does a clutch tell you what gear you are in? Even neutral. Gear position is from the transmission. When your switch was defective did the correct gear number still show on the dash display?

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden  ปีที่แล้ว

      I try again :)
      If you are in 2nd gear (no clutch) bike will have mapping for 2nd gear.
      If you are in 2nd gear plus "clutch in", it will use mapping for "clutch in" or neutral mapping.
      It has nothing to do with gears. As soon as you pull in the clutch, it will use the "clutch in" mapping, regardless of which gear you are in because the engine in free revving.
      Bypassing the switch, will use "free revving" mapping, regardless of gear.

    • @hazcat640
      @hazcat640 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NomadSweden I understand what you are saying. If the 'clutch in' overrides gear mapping how does the engine ever know what gear you are in? The transmission tells the ECU what gear it is in. The ECU also relates that information to the dash display so it knows what gear you are in regardless of clutch position. When you pull the clutch in does the display change to 'N'. No, it doesn't. The ECU does notice if there is a fuel demand and what revs the engine is, that is what controls the mapping and is why the mapping changes, not clutch position. BTW who told you about the clutch switch?

    • @hazcat640
      @hazcat640 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NomadSweden To explain another way here is what happens when you push 'start'. ECU: Is clutch disengaged? Yes = start, if NO then check if trans in neutral. If YES then Start, if NO then don't start. From that point on the ECU fuel mapping is controlled by the atmospheric conditions and engine demands.
