    Thanks for the vid. Given how much misinformation there is out there, it's nice to see a good description of the difference between DIN and SAE as far as the back of the bubble, that is often overlooked. A comment if I may: AFAIK in the US what we call "single flare" is different from what you used the term for. Normally, Single flare means just one wall thickness spread out at a 45. Looks like the double flare without the extra layer folded back in. And concave on the far end. Like a funnel. Not normally used for brake lines. What you called single flare we usually call a bubble flare. Not a criticism, just an observation. Your English is fantastic, btw, kudos!

    Good video.. hard to find info for us inexperienced. Thanks for sharing.... keep it up... I decide to add than DIN stands for German Institute for Standards and is the same as ISO International Organization for Standards Worldwide.. SAE is Society of Automotive Engineers. As for long tube that is hard to hold and has many bends at weird configurations it is better to put some Spring Guard on for under the car protection and at bends.. Cost more but it is much easier to bend..... I found all this out because i bought a Eastwood Tube Flair Tool and the directions suck. This video filled in all the gaps i was looking for.

    Enjoyed your sense of humor... Detailed explanation of the different styles out there. I purchased the red box style and after two tries it will never work on a brake line in it's future. It has a use I know I just have not found it yet but I will keep it for when the brain has that ah ha moment. Cost 22$ on Amazon Neiko branded. Working on a 2010 Hyundai Elantra where it has coated steel lines; only the sections directly under the car where road salts attacked it are being replaced with the copper/nickel and the proper unions. Purchased the Cal-Van-165 inline as a replacement for 56$ US giving that one a shot tomorrow. If that fails I will take the deep dive for 300$ for the Mastercool 72475-PRC Universal hydraulic flaring tool set; I have four cars and all will need brake lines at some point in time so I would like to have a set that works on a center line as your bench style does but I want to be able to use it under the automobile easily. In a perfect world where money is not a factor the Mastercool is the best out there from what I have been able to discern. Nice bends and it seems you could improve the vise style with a holder for the zero load side(Left side) although the hand works perfectly well ;) .

    • @TheDutchGarage
      @TheDutchGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your kind words! There are hydraulic ones that you can easily use underneath the car. they are around that price point also, coated lines you have to clean-up real good. I do think that quality with the basic versions is A big factor. 20 usd or one from An A-Brand would definitely be a differed experience.

    • @curiosity2314
      @curiosity2314 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheDutchGarage An update as I did receive the Cal-Van version of the tool and yes it works and works well. The only issue I ran into which makes sense as if you don't watch the forming die side it may slightly mis-align that makes it is easy to cross thread the "plunger side" into the forming die but with attention it works and makes a perfect flare. There are others out there similar with a handle which might prove even easier but you only get one size die where this kit gives you five to choose from. I did watch for the coating issue that you talked about but it did come out clean without any extra effort on my part. Funny but in my excitement to try the tool and make the first flare I did forget to put the fitting on first. Go figure but step one is now embedded in my brain.. :).

    • @curiosity2314
      @curiosity2314 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the red style I noticed the fatal flaw whether it be a 22 dollar unit or the 400 you paid. That style is all the same no matter what you pay for it. The flaw is that the die mating surface to the cone should match giving the die zero chance to go off level. The thing wants to pivot unless you watch it and correct it. Problem solved and you could tool it but for a couple extra you can get what was tooled correctly. It amazes me that they make and sell so many of that style. I got suckered into it, had I done the job right away I could have returned it but it wasn't something I needed to take on right away and the principal looked ok. Live and learn.

    Looks like a decent tube bending tool sold under the EASTWOOD brand name #49074; not expensive. Of course, they have other styles as well. Not sure what brand that more expensive flaring tool you have but they have one that looks like it #25304. There is a kit sold for making the bubble flare sort of like the inherited kit you had for single and double flares.

    I like the Video, now i understand the difference between DIN and SAE.
    Now the question for me is: can U can make double DIN Flares when the Car has normaly SAE flares, if u use the right nippels with the same threading as before (but the DIN Flare) right?
    Or does the fitting cause seal problems with the flare on the car adapter
    Whats with professional Tools also suitable for steel Lines? Like Geodore 234001 for DIN, or Hazet 2191/12K. I think its worth spending the 300 Euros to get a quality Tool for something this important.

    At 18:00 I think you are incorrect to describe the middle pipe flare as SAE single flare. SAE double flare is formed using a two stage operation. The first stage makes a bubble that is similar to a DIN bubble flare and the second stage makes a (double skinned) trumpet. A SAE single flare is made by missing the first operation and just making a (single skinned) trumpet. So SAE flares are
    1) Perform operation #1 only - gives a DIN like bubble flare with a tapered rear
    2) Perform operations #1 and #2 - gives the SAE double flare
    3) Perform operation #2 only - gives the SAE single flare (never use with brake systems)

      Yeah i was looking for this post., as I was gonna point this out as well....this should be pinned, or at least noted somewhere.
      A single flare is a 45 degree flare that looks like a funnel, and double "Looks" the same except the material is folded over, reinforcing it.

  • @paulas2610
    @paulas2610 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You did not explain the following. DIN only has one operation and only makes
    a bubble flare witch in SAE is the first operation only. Therefore, if using DIN only, you are left with male fittings. If you want to join two male DIN fittings together when using DIN only, you need a female to female connector called a bubble flare union.

    Hi, the DIN and the SAE are both „bubble flares“ and not a „single flare“. The single and double flare are both trumpet shaped but in order to make a double flare you have to use ops 1 from the SAE bubble flare first and than step 2 you fold the bubble in to create a folded in trumpet called a double flare.
    Oh and about your „lousy Euro“, you might have forgotten about the times when one important prep for any vacation was to get enough of the right currency and the banks always (paypal still does) charge a nice amount for exchanging. Hi there, well "we"call it the single and double flare. But the official naming is DIN/SAE convex and SAE double.
      You and I don't stand on the same side of the debate on the euro, and that's fine. Sure the euro has it's pros. But in my up pinion more cons.

      The Dutch Garage
      Hi, thanks for your nice response. Of course I don’t want to start a discussion about things that neither of us can change. I also respect your opinion as you did mine but just out of curiosity, I live in Germany at the moment and as an „enduser“ cannot name one disadvantage of this currency within the EU. I do have exchange rate charges when I buy my Jaguar parts in England but when I order from the Netherlands I don’t have such charges, now guess where I order my parts from. I am just curious if you could tell me about your personal disadvantages or negative experience with the Euro. Just your opinion, not a discussion.
      Thanks and stay healthy,
      Bernhard

    That is not a single flare … it is called a bubble flare. A single flare would just be a double flare that has not been folded onto itself.
