You Carré, I Carré, We all Vieux Carré! How to make the Vieux Carré Cocktail | BAR TALK & COCKTAILS

  • One of my Patrons on Patreon had requested I do the Vieux Carré cocktail. Thanks for the idea! This cocktail was invented at The Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans. From ghosts to carousels, the hotel actually has a more storied history than the cocktail itself.
    Kind of like a Manhattan, the Vieux Carré is a strong drink using Rye Whiskey, Cognac, Sweet Vermouth and Benedictine. But the result is a balanced, complex, potent cocktail that is dangerously easy to drink.

    Love the Vieux Carre! Great video. You should do the American Trilogy, great spin on the old fashioned. It has become one of my new favorites!

    Great video! Fully enjoyed the history, just adds more appreciation of the cocktail. This and the Sazerac are the reasons I have a 300ml(well a few during the year) of Peychauds. This drink is easy to make in glass after a long day, I'm keen to use cask strength Canadian rye can really turn it up. Crossing my finger Santa got my request and I get a aging barrel for xmas to which this cocktail will be made in.

      Ooh that would be awesome. I actually have an aging barrel and haven’t used it yet. It’s on my to do list!

    One of my favourite cocktails. Never tried with a Canadian rye, I generally use either Bulleit Rye or Knob Creek Rye. And as a vermouth, Punt e Mes is a great choice, better than Martini red.
    Agree it's complex and delicious.

    Visited NOLA this summer, and did a cocktail pilgrimage. Found out the Monteleone carousel bar uses Berto Vermouth, just in case you wanted to know. Cheers, Bruce!

    This is like a Manhattan mixed with a Sazerac. Funny since Sazerac has been made with both rye and cognac. The only thing it is missing is an absinthe wash. I might try that.

    Since you like canadian whiskey I guess there must be good canadian whiskey that I have never tried can you give some suggestions other than this lot40?

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A few Canadian whiskies to explore are Wiser's Deluxe, Gibson's Finest Rare 12-Year-Old, Gooderham & Worts. Of course, Crown Royal because it's light and easy to sip neat. But, my absolute favourite is Forty Creek Barrel Select Whisky. That one has complex aromas and flavours of apricots, caramel, spice, vanilla, ginger and toasted oak. It's very smooth with a long finish. It makes a fine Manhattan. Cheers!

      @@BarTalkCocktails Its fine. A lot of people have trouble with French pronunciation. Then again there are alot of local words pronounced differently.
