Moto Z - from Motorola - is the THINNEST premium smartphone currently on the market. (2016) This video shows how I personally opened up the Moto Z. You can use this video as a reference for if you decide to repair your own phone. Remember, attempt all phone repairs at your own risk. I show how the screen comes off of the body, and how the battery can be swapped.
The charging port is unfortunately not replaceable. It is stuck onto the main board permanently.
Find the Moto Z durability test HERE: • Worlds THINNEST Smartp...
LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED ANY PARTS!! I will look for them, and link them here.
Since the phone was recently released, parts are hard to find. So make sure you have a screen protector and case: amzn.to/2cgL0y1
The camera I used to film this video: amzn.to/1IjlaCD
The Lens I used for this video: amzn.to/1QOXDw2

There's so little room to apply new adhesive to the screen. Yikes. I don't get the back glass being glued on either. The last time I took apart a Motorola phone was the A855 and it was a nightmare and it seems little has changed!

I have 2 suggestions for anyone attempting to do this.
    1. The earpiece screws are actually T3, at least mine were.
    2. This LCD is exceptionally fragile! You need to stick the pry tool almost all of the way into the screen at the top and bottom, because there is a lot of adhesive around the front camera and the sensors at the bottom.

I bought the tool, bought a battery, ended up breaking the glass trying to get the tool in on the first step. Sliced up my palm pretty good with the tool. Out $40 and went HRC on the phone with a hammer. Good times. Definitely my last Moto phone.

  • @hesperaux
    @hesperaux 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi, very good video. I have one of these phones and need to replace the battery. This and other videos are going to help me do that.
That being said, please be aware that the "decorative metal piece" is NOT DECORATIVE. Do NOT damage that piece! I am an electrical engineer who has worked in mobile phone development. That piece is for GROUND. It is important that this have a good connection to ground or the mods attached to the phone may not work reliably. This is especially true if you are using a battery mod. As an added bonus, this ground plate offers ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection. To everyone disassembling this phone, please be careful with this part.
Another side note: you called the copper tape over the processor/etc. on the motherboard a "protective piece." This is true, but it should be noted that it not only acts as a heat spreader for the chips, but it also provides electromagnetic shielding to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Regardless, thanks for the video! It is very helpful to see someone disassemble the phone, especially when it comes to the heating of the glue, which is almost an art it seems.

I own it too...it's a really great phone if you asked me but the only thing i don't like about it is the battery. Being idle drains the battery unlike any phone I've had. Bluetooth and gps drain the battery way too fast. But it's got fast charging though

Every phone will have different ways to remove internal components. How do you know the exact procedure to do so? I am curious to know how you are able to do it easily. Your videos help people to know the procedure. Great work man.

Could you do a video on the Moto Z Play? It is actually a very differently constructed phone. Thanks!
