    The Google Pixel phone is durable indeed, but not invincible. Glass screens can still crack and shatter, and sometimes need to be replaced. This video will show how I replace the screen on my own Google Pixel (Regular sized) as well as how I remove the battery, and the charging port. luckily everything on this phone is pretty modular. And even better, the screen replacements arent super complicated.
    The screen of the Google Pixel is only held in place by adhesive. And two small T5 screws that hold the screen connector in place. If you want your screen to survive the removal process its incredibly important that you do not touch the LED with your metal tools.

      In digital imaging, a pixel, pel,[1] dots, or picture element[2] is a physical point in a raster image, or the smallest addressable element in an all points addressable display device; so it is the smallest controllable element of a picture represented on the screen. The address of a pixel corresponds to its physical coordinates. LCD pixels are manufactured in a two-dimensional grid, and are often represented using dots or squares, but CRT pixels correspond to their timing mechanisms .
      Each pixel is a sample of an original image; more samples typically provide more accurate representations of the original. The intensity of each pixel is variable. In color imaging systems, a color is typically represented by three or four component intensities such as red, green, and blue, or cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.

      Google Pixel (1) original battery: B2PW4100 Li-ion 00
      3,85V (VDC) (4,35 V max)
      thickness 4.5-4.7 mm, height 63.9 mm (59,1 mm without pr.b.), width 60.0 mm
      толщина 4,5-4,7 мм, высота 63,9 мм (59,1 мм без платы защиты), ширина 60,0 мм
      Protection board: 2PW4 HTS80001P03 / 94V-0
      thickness 1,9 mm, width 58,5 mm, +height 4,8 mm
      (may be replaced to identical by dimensions, but 3,85 V Li-Pol)
      (++ USE AccuBattery app)
      You can also make holes in the body, draw two contacts with a neatly separated protection board outward, and attach standard batteries 3.7 V (normal, and the maximum allowable voltage for such is 4.2 volts). In this case, be sure to use the AccuBattery application.
      Вы также можете проделать отверстия в корпусе, вывести два контакта с аккуратно отделённой платы защиты наружу, и присоединить стандартные аккумуляторы 3,7 В (в норме, а предельно допустимое напряжение для таких - 4,2 вольта). В таком случае обязательно используйте приложение AccuBattery.

    I just fixed my pixel on my own with your video teardown. Thank you so much! I'm now a subscriber because I really enjoy your presentation style and humour. Awesome channel :D
    For any other first timers about to embark on your first Pixel 1 disassembling, a few tips to avoid damaging parts:
    1) Trying to get your prying tool under the screen at the very beginning was actually really difficult to initiate. I tried for a while like in the video, but then decided to try using a suction cup to pull up on the screen while also still prying. It really helped open up just that tiny bit of clearance, but enough needed to get in there much more easily. Initiating is the hardest part, after that it's just patience and care.
    2) On the lower part of the screen, the OLED layer beneath the glass goes significantly further than it appears to! About 6-7mm further! On the upper part of the screen it does as well, but only by a tiny bit, less than 1mm. So while using your flat tool to clear the adhesive, be careful not to go all the way up to where the screen appears to start, you need to stop 7+mm away. I would stop 10mm away to be safe, and 3mm away on the top.
    3) Be careful with the heat gun on the under side of the screen. I was blowing heat in once I had a 2-3mm gap, trying to soften the remaining adhesive that was further inside, and it melted some of the OLED, and now I have this bright spot where it happened. Mine's not bad, almost purely cosmetic, but it could have been a lot worse had I not noticed that it was happening in time.

    and I expected Zack to give us 3 subpixels inside lol
    But for real, why it seams to m3 that Iphones are the only ones where replacing the display and battery is no big deal?
    With the Pixel you need to remove the screen and then the MoBo to get to the battery, for the Galaxy you'll need to remove the backplate, battery, and all other components to free the screen.

    Well, I can rest a little easier knowing that most of the space at the chin of the phone is being used. The speaker module is pretty large. Obviously, this means Google made a conscious decision to not have front-facing speakers as they could have easily fit one in (I think it's probably due to it being blocked when being used with the Daydream headset).

    • @neiljohnson1956

      @chrisdaniels160 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't really agree with this. Both the speaker and the motherboard in the bottom seem unnecessarily large compared to other phones. Especially the speaker. A lot of wasted space.

    • @classicONJ
      @classicONJ 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You just said the speaker is large which is exactly what I said? The motherboard is at the top actually and what you thought was the motherboard is the charging board, which is also large. I hope you realise that any engineer from any major tech company isn't that dumb to just poorly design things that waste space. I am fairly confident now that they made the chin as big as it is to be fully symmetrical with the "forehead" of the phone (have you ever seen an asymmetric smartphone before?). Also after testing it out at the store (I'm from Australia), it's quite an ergonomic design as its easier to reach the navigation buttons one-handed than some other phones (although only a small effort to stretch my thumb, I found it noticeable).

      LANCE I have a thing against apple because of the lack of a headphone jack and how they treat their customers. I used to be a fan but it all changed when Tim made the "innovative" decision to ditch the headphone jack just for extra profit off their phones that have been marked up probably between 300-400% profit

    Hey Jerry, thanks so much for posting the most informative and entertaining teardown for the google pixel XL. I was watching this to replace the battery. I've gone through the process and as you mentioned, there is a generous amount of adhesive leading to a break in the potato chip screen. I'm wondering if
    a) a crack in the screen would mean I need to replace the whole thing. I plugged in the new battery and have no way of telling whether the phone booted properly.... Except for the fact that is does vibrate when I pop in the SIM. So I've gone ahead and bought the replacement screen via your link.
    b) @ 2:15 in your video, after a removal of the phone body, I didn't actually have any ribbon attached. It looked like just a plastic piece. Did I break something??? The ribbon and component was securely attached to the base of the phone.
    Thanks again for your assistance and helping revive my phone. Eric
