You are such a natural teacher! Thank you so much for the clear instructions on how to do this heel! I’ll be trying it on the socks I am knitting now! I’m so glad you came up as a suggestion to watch!
Thank you Alex, very clear instruction. This is my favourite heel by far and it's not as fiddly and yarn hungry as the heel flap and gusset style. xxJane 🐑🌈
Thank you for this Alex! I’ve done the shadow stitch heel before but never really understood it. This video is so clear, both in visual detail and in the explanation, I’ll be able to use shadow stitch a lot more often now. Xx
Love this tutorial. I’ve had the pattern for a while but I have struggled with. You made it look so easy, shall be trying again on my next pair of socks. X
Thank you so much for this, I am trying my 1st sock, I have ripped out so many heels in frustration as I couldn't get it right, then I came across your tutorial and you were the only 1 that made it make sense to me, you didn't speak to fast and you knit at a sensible speed to learn from you, so thank you I have just done the 1st part of my heel with no mistakes! Now for the 2nd part, wish me luck lol😊
Thank you for this very clear tutorial. I’ve been wanting to try to knit socks but was intimidated by the heel. I’ll be referring to you lovely video frequently as I attempt my first sock. You’re an excellent teacher!!!
Fabulous tutorial - thank you! I haven’t knitted socks for so long (other than the flat knitting ones I made towards the end of last year) that I can’t remember what method I used to use. This looks a simple and effective method - and your teaching style is clear and easy to follow too!
Thankyou so much Alex. I’m a heel flap and gusset knitter but this seems so much easier. I wanted to learn it so I can do it on your socks when the pattern comes out but I’ll try it on the sock that’s on the needles at the moment. Great teacher! Xx
Thankyou so much! The pattern should be a few of weeks the testers have been amazing and whizzed through!! This is the reason for this new tutorial - this will be linked in the pattern too 😊 xx
The heel flap and gusset fits me better, but the shadow wrap heel is faster and more fun to knit. Your tutorial is fabulous because it’s to the point and easy to see what you’re doing. Thanks for filming this tutorial. 😀
Thank you Alex, you're tutorial is easy to follow and I've saved your video to my own playlist so I can have a go at this heel. Traditionally I'm a heel flap and gusset sock knitter but sometimes the colour management on a sock needs something simpler 💕🧓
I know what you mean stripes are a little trickier with the heel flap and gusset aren't they - hope you like it 😊 it will make certain yarn management easier 😊 xx
Thankyou so much for the super thanks! If you head over to the website (www.myyarnycorner.com) I have free sock patterns in there and they all include the shadow wrap heel with written instructions 😊 have a lovely Christmas 🎄xx
I really mean it. I'm 79 and have 9 children and about 33 grandchildren and about 28 great grandchildren so that's a lot of socks!!!! Thank you again, you are a blessing to me.
@patriciafoster6736 that is alot of socks to make - your grandchildren and great grandchildren are very lucky you make socks for them 🥰 when I first learnt to knit socks I learnt the heel flap and gusset but it was never my favourite once I learnt the shadow wrap heel I was away! I love how quick it is and easy to remember! I learnt from Earth Tones Girl (she does fabulous sock knitting tutorials) and I have been enjoying socks ever since 🥰 xx
This is brilliant. I do a similar thing but your version is so much easier. I UNDERSTAND it. 😁Thank you for making my sock life much easier. I’m going to cast on another pair just to try it. ❤❤💐💐💐
Thankyou so much for saying that! 🥰 enjoy knitting it! It's definitely my favourite heel - I say all the "time 'try all the heels" to everybody but I only ever use this one! Xx
Thanks for this great tutorial Alex definitely going to try this heel on my latest pair of socks plus I suppose this heel is better for self striping yarn or a contrast colour. X
Aw you're very welcome! Hope it was helpful 🥰 if you go the the website www.myyarnycorner.com There are some free sock patterns on there and they also have the written instructions for the shadow wrap heel Xx
Thanks for your easy to follow shadow wrap heel tutorial. I love not having to do the gusset and pick up stitches. I did have a little issue (my bad) dropping one of the double stitches. I fudged it a bit and it’s not noticeable. I look forward to more of your content. 😊
Aw you're very welcome 🥰 learning this heel was a game changer for me as I always disliked the heel flap and gusset (I think it's like marmite - you're either a lover of it or not!) I have dropped a double stitch plenty of times 🤣 if in doubt fudging works best 😁 xx
@leslieberkower8163 ah right! Sorry! How can I explain marmite? It's a yeast extract spread (for toast) with a very distinctive taste - the running joke with it is you either love it or hate it 🤣 I'm a hater but my eldest loves it! Xx
I have to try this! Traditional heel flap and gussets drive me crazy because I may get 10 minutes here and there to stitch and it takes that long to figure where I left off 😂
Then I'm sure you will like this one 😊 it's really easy to see where you are if you put it down - I'm the same my knitting is constantly getting put down! So I need ease! Xx
Great and nice and simple sock heel video. I love this sock heel too!!! I have one other one it's kinda of like this from this lady Tina Robbins that was on TH-cam here that made one like this several years ago that is easy too and this shadow wrap heel I loved it since I tried it and a year and a half ago and I love how easy it is and it doesn't leave any holes between the heel and the instep. And I love having tpwo different patterns to switch knitting between the patterns!!! 🤗🧶❤️ 🤗🧶❤️🤗🧶❤️
You can sometimes get a gap when doing a heel - you need to pull the yarn snug at the start or if your using a contrast colour then just use the end to close any gap 😊💕xx
Thanks Alex. I did try this as part of your sock tutorial series. Quick question though if you want to change the colour of your heel at what points start and end do you change it?
Change your color at the start of the heel (so 9n the 2nd half of your stitches exactly where you begin the heel) amd finish the colour in the last row of the heel 😊 then go back to your original colour when u start working in the round again xx
I'm not quite sure what u mean - but you place the shadow wrap heel on the 2nd half of your stitches 😊 I have a couple of free patterns on my website Www.myyarnycorner.com They all give written instructions for the shadow wrap heel if that helps? The lumberjack pattern is a newer pattern and the whole socks also has a youtube tutorial xx
Great job! I tried videoing a tutorial once, it’s too haaaard! 🤣 I’m a confirmed FLK girl, 40 pairs and counting 😁 I think you said you used to do that heel too? What’s better about this one? It looks about the same to actually knit, does it fit you better? Do the triple sts add bulk? Thanks 😁
Hi Ellena yes I used to do FLK this one is easier to remember I find (I can't remember the FLK exactly I think it omits the boomerang row?) The triple stitches don't add bulk at all 😊 give it a try see what you think 😁xx
You are such a natural teacher! Thank you so much for the clear instructions on how to do this heel! I’ll be trying it on the socks I am knitting now! I’m so glad you came up as a suggestion to watch!
Thankyou so much you have made my day! Do show me your socks when your done I would love to see! Xx
Thanks I’m taking a while to get this so have watched a few times. Thanks for a great tutorial, so easy to follow 😊
Thankyou so much thats so kind! 🥰💕xx
Thank you Alex, very clear instruction.
This is my favourite heel by far and it's not as fiddly and yarn hungry as the heel flap and gusset style.
xxJane 🐑🌈
So pleased you like it - it's definitely my go to heel! It's just so quick and easy 😁xx
Thank you for a great tutorial. At last I found a GSR I can remember! In English and by a right handed knitter.😊
Aw your very welcome hope it's helpful 🥰xx
Thank you for this Alex! I’ve done the shadow stitch heel before but never really understood it. This video is so clear, both in visual detail and in the explanation, I’ll be able to use shadow stitch a lot more often now. Xx
Aw Jane I'm so pleased! As you know it's my go to heel 😁 xxx
Love this!! Thank you! I’ve been so intimidated by this method but sure enough you’ve showed that there’s not much to be scared about.

Thank you Alex this looks fab and you was so clear as to how to knit it. I will have to give it a whirl sometime xx
Yay let me know how you get on! Xx
I will thank you xx
Thank you for this very clear tutorial. I’ve been wanting to try to knit socks but was intimidated by the heel. I’ll be referring to you lovely video frequently as I attempt my first sock. You’re an excellent teacher!!!

You're very welcome! I think it's always nice to be able to do a range of heels for what ever type you fancy!! 😊xx
This is great, thank you. DK socks sound good too x
Thankyou! I'm still playing with my DK weight recipe - I think I have it now with 48 stitches and a 3.25mm needle 😁xx
You are the first person I’ve seen who holds the yarn as I do 😃
Aw really? That's so cool 😁xx
Thank you Alex, you're tutorial is easy to follow and I've saved your video to my own playlist so I can have a go at this heel. Traditionally I'm a heel flap and gusset sock knitter but sometimes the colour management on a sock needs something simpler 💕🧓

Wow this is great thank you for sharing it 😊 can't wait to try it
Fantastic!! Enjoy! 🥰xx
Thank you Alex, great easy to follow tutorial. I usually do a heel turn and gusset and been wanting to try the shadow wrap heel for my next socks.
Oh fab! Yes give it a go see how you find it 😁 I do love this heel 😁xx
Do you have this as a written pattern? I'd love to get a written sock pattern with this type of heel.
Thank you for sharing.
Thankyou so much for the super thanks! If you head over to the website (www.myyarnycorner.com) I have free sock patterns in there and they all include the shadow wrap heel with written instructions 😊 have a lovely Christmas 🎄xx

Thanks Alex, that was a brilliant tutorial 😍
So pleased it was OK 🥰 hope its helpful! Xx
Thanks for this great tutorial Alex definitely going to try this heel on my latest pair of socks plus I suppose this heel is better for self striping yarn or a contrast colour. X
Yes it works fabulous for contrast on self striping but if you knit in the self striping it looks fabulous too! Xx
Thank you sooo much for teaching me to do this heel I was doing the afterthought heel
Aw you're very welcome! Hope it was helpful 🥰 if you go the the website

I tried this. Worked out great!
Aw fantastic! Xx

@@myyarnycorner thanks for your encouragement. I live in the US so marmite isn’t a thing 😅
@leslieberkower8163 ah right! Sorry! How can I explain marmite? It's a yeast extract spread (for toast) with a very distinctive taste - the running joke with it is you either love it or hate it 🤣 I'm a hater but my eldest loves it! Xx
I didn’t know to split the heel in thirds to know how many stitches to do on each side and the middle so thanks for that brilliant tip
You're very welcome 😊 have fun! Xx
So well explained! Thank you!
Your very welcome! Xx

Thank you so much for this - very easy to follow - one question- if using a contrast heel - when exactly do you switch back to the main color?
You switch back to the main colour ince upu starting knitting in the round again 🥰xx
Brilliant tutorial. Just wanted to ask if you have any tips for joining in the round .I get a gap .
You can sometimes get a gap when doing a heel - you need to pull the yarn snug at the start or if your using a contrast colour then just use the end to close any gap 😊💕xx
That was brill thanks
You're very welcome 🥰xx
Bookmarking this for later reference.....
Fab 🥰💕
I like knitting the shadow heel my question is do I knit longer in the leg before starting the heel
Yes it's your choice - you can always add extra rounds 😊xx
Thanks Alex. I did try this as part of your sock tutorial series. Quick question though if you want to change the colour of your heel at what points start and end do you change it?
Change your color at the start of the heel (so 9n the 2nd half of your stitches exactly where you begin the heel) amd finish the colour in the last row of the heel 😊 then go back to your original colour when u start working in the round again xx

Are you using DK sock yarn or 4 ply . Your yarn looks so thick , maybe it’s just the camera or you zoomed in ❤️
Yes I am using dk weight yarn - the thicker yarn is easier to see on the camera 😊 plus I'm perfecting my dk sock recipe 😊xx
👋👋👋👍👍👍👍👍
🥰
Splitting yarn is not good for this heel, but otherwise it’s perfect.
I'm pleased you liked it 🥰xx
Thanks for a great tutorial.!
You're very welcome! Xx
