Like WOW, I feel so blessed! 😊, What a súper teacher you are, smart, talented & beautiful. Thank you for teaching these classes and putting them in line for free❣️ I have been wanting to learn how to knit a pair socks. 🧦 I taught myself to knit, still plenty I don’t know yet. But I plan on watching every video you have out! You amaze me. May GOD bless you!! ❤
I’m so glad someone suggested a shadow wrap heel as an alternative to a short row heel and pointed me in your direction! I hadn’t heard of shadow wrap before and was intrigued. This will definitely be the heel on my next pair of socks. Your instructions are so clear and easily followed and understood. I also like your calm, soothing voice 😊 Did a quick scan of your videos and have subscribed to your channel. Looks like great content. Thank you so much for sharing your skills 👍
FABULOUS! Denise, your video completely demystifies this heel! I can’t wait to try it! Thank you for another wonderful lesson in your calm, encouraging manner. 💕
A wonderful instructor with super instructions that are so well filmed.A plus for me is that I can use this technique with top-down sock designs.Thank you from Kath in Oz.
This heel is amazing! Combined your two patterns to knit a shorty with the shadow wrap heel. Just finished first heel and cannot believe how beautiful it is. And, a short row I can memorize - never would have believed it!
Once again you've hit a home run! I'm a FLK heel gal but I love this simpler method with the even weaved look. I have a WIP that's ready for its heel & I will try this method & let you know 🤞. Can you do a tutorial on contrast heel with this method?
Thanks so much for this tutorial! Your voice is very calming, your explanations clear and I like you showing the method in real time. It’s much easier than the FLK heel since you don’t have to mess with markers, count, etc. I will most definitely be buying your pattern and also look forward to hopefully seeing you explain how to do a contrast colored heel with this method.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. This heel added another technique to my repertoire. Your tutorial was easy to understand. I also enjoyed the birds in the background. You are always positive and a joy to watch.
This looks amazing! I’ve just finished a heel flap, heel turn and gusset, so much work! I can’t wait to try this! I’ve done a fish lips kiss heel which is similar with twin stitches, but this looks even easier! Great tutorial!
I cannot Thank You enough!! I’ve been knitting basics for about 30 years, but wanted to take it to the next level, my problem, I live in the country, no LYS within 50 miles, and then there’s the work/life schedule. TH-cam has been a tremendous help, but the real bonus was finding YOU!! Your teaching style I find so helpful. God Bless you, you’re helping more than you know ❤
Hi Donna, thank you so much for your wonderful message. I am so happy that TH-cam and my channel have been such a good resource for you. I’m so glad you found your way here!!!
Wonderful tutorial and best short row heel I've ever seen! I would love to see you do a toe-up sock with this as a short row toe (with a provisional cast on picked up after the toe is completed). I can't wait to see what else you come up with. Your work is beautiful, and your explanations are so clear and easy to follow.
I started to learn how to knit this year and one of my goals is to learn how to knit socks. I just want to knit socks so bad. Your channel showed up randomly and I am definitely glad it did. You explain the process so well. I like how you have the whole course in your description box that way people (me haha) don't have to search and search to find the whole course. I am a new subscriber now.
I’m so grateful for this tutorial and I just purchased your pattern to support your good work! I am finding I detest the heel flap and gusset and I cannot wait to see if this method helps me find my sock knitting mojo again. As an educator of young people, I especially appreciate your clear and patient instruction and support in this tutorial.
I'm so happy to hear that you found the tutorial helpful and that you're excited to try the shadow wrap heel! I hope it helps you find your sock knitting mojo again!
Long time fan of the shadow wrap / Twin stitch heels, it was the only one that seemed to fit me perfectly. Thank you so much for your , well thought out videos
Denise I just love this heel! The sock pattern I am knitting called for a short row heel and as i was doing it I remembered this heel and came back to your pattern because it is so great! Thank you so much for the tutorial… it’s excellent!
One more comment probably doesn't men much to you, but your tutorial is awesome. You knit exactly the same way I do. I could listen to your voice all day. Thank you, thank you. I actually started a sock Christmas ornament and I was not getting along with the short row heel in the pattern. Then, I remembered your "new" shadow wrap heel. I went immediately to your tutorial. If Anyone wants to practice, trying it on an ornament is a suggestion.
Thank you for this video, I'm going to knit this heel in my next pair. I like your real time knitting examples. It gives my brain time to absorb the words and see visually the result!
I have started many socks over the last couple years but I always get hung up on the heel…until I found this video! I just finished a heel on 9 inch circulars. Thank you so much for this tutorial, I have found my heel!
I have finally got around to working your Fearless DK weight Socks and worked your Shadow Wrap Short Row Heel for the first time. I am so excited as this is a game changer for me! So much quicker and like you say no holes and looks really neat. I love it. Thank you for your patience in teaching. I love it when you do lots of repeats of the steps as I am a slow learner.
I have been knitting my heels like this for years as I modified the other heel pattern for my needs and had no idea that 1) it had a name and 2) that it was an actual technique. 🤣 I love this explanation, it is really well done and so clear! You clearly explained some things I've just "done" and couldn't wrap my head around how to explain it, so thank you! Also, I love that you used 2 circs in this video - while I am a total Magic Loop girlie now, 2 circs is how I found my love for knitting socks and I used to teach beginning sock classes using the technique for years. (NGL, I kinda want to pick up a couple of circs again and cast on something after watching this, lol.)
Thank you for this! I was exactly like you, I can knit socks but was never happy with the look of the heel. I can't wait to try this! I'm a guy who knits :) My grandmother, who was basically house bound because of her health would give me some $ and told me to walk to the corner yarn shop and get her some pretty yarn. Different age back then :), Anyway, One day my wife and I were shopping in a department store. I noticed a "teach yourself to knit" kit. So I picked it up and my wife encouraged me to get it. Having watched my grandmother all those years helped me and I picked it up really easily. I may have discovered why she knitted. It's an awesome stress reliever, lol! Plus I love making things for people. Oh the Halloween outfits i've made for he grandkids! Anyway, Thanks again.
Now I understand what all the excitement is about. I'm on my fourth pair of socks and this time they are for me! I'm going to be trying out this heel. Thank you, thank you for doing the whole rows at the beginning. My brain needs to see that. Take care and keep safe. xxJane
THANK YOU. I have tried to learn to knit a GSRH from many other videos, and (after many frustrating hours) have NEVER been able to do it correctly. This is the first video that explained the process clearly. My heel came out perfectly. You are a fantastic teacher.
I’m so excited to try this heel on my next socks! I had never heard of it before and a friend sent me your video. You are also a wonderful teacher with such a relaxing calm voice. I’m happy to have found you! 🙂
I just finished the shadow wrap heel for the second pair of socks where I am using it. The first pair was an exercise in frustration. Your video and the Soxploration pattern could not be any better. It was definitely user error. There was lots and lots and lots of ripping. I did finish those socks, but was determined to try it again and try to do better. This time around was so much better. I actually am proud of the way the the heel looks and there was no ripping. Denise you are an amazing teacher.
Thank you so so much for this incredible tutorial. I am a new knitter and have only done heel flap and gussett so far, and wasn't 100% sold on it. I was able to incorporate this heel into my sock with no issues thanks to your clear and detailed instructions. Would love to see more videos like this!!
Thank you for doing this in real time! I appreciate that you take your time and don't rush through. I'm excited to knit along with this video for my next pair of socks.
I started knitting late in life. I’m in my 70’s. I just spent an entire month trying to turn a heel. I tried so many ways from afterthought to several varieties of short rows, even the faux german short row heel. I gave up for a few days then came across a pattern for socks knit flat and I thought I had died and gone to heaven but nope, I encountered trouble understanding the process yet again. Then I came across one more heel, your shadow wrap heel and glory be, I just completed my first heel successfully. It came out beautifully. I cannot thank you enough! My confidence is back and I am looking forward to a comfortable pair of hand knit socks soon. I bought the Soxploration and the Shortie patterns. I have dubbed you the sock knitting queen because you are an absolutely stellar teacher! ❤️🙏🏼❤️
Hi Linda, Thanks so much for your message and I'm so happy to hear you're back on track and loving the shadow wrap heel. Hooray for stress free sock knitting!! Enjoy!!
I absolutely blooming love your tutorials. Best on TH-cam. For me, I prefer a detailed slow tutorial and you are so calm while doing it. Thank you so, so much for the time you take. I appreciate you so much, all the way from London, England ❤️.
And I absolutely love that you said "blooming love"!!! Thanks so much for following along with my classes!! Happy Sock Knitting!! Sending hugs to you in England (one of my favorite places in the world).
@@EarthtonesgirlPodcast your reply has made my day. I was at the hospital, on a dialysis machine when it appeared. I was knitting your socks. I restarted about 7 times but I’ve actually managed to get some of the cuff ribbing done! So, so happy and proud of myself! Thank you so much 😀❤️.
Your voice is so clear, calming, encouraging, and humble. Thank you! I stumbled on your channel after I struggled to follow other’s videos on short row heels. I found your way to be so perfect for my brain! 😮😅 Keep teaching us-you are the best! God bless
I have seen other videos of the shadow wrap heel. But since I have only been knitting for 2 weeks and have only made one pair of socks after breaking 2 circular knitting needles 😂, I didn’t understand what the Purl Together lady was doing. So I figured I will check out your tutorial and completely understood it. Thank you so much, you’re very considerate and that soft relaxing voice is calming to listen to. Thanks to you I found my go to knitting instructor. I feel like I found a friend, what a great day! So grateful😊
I am attempting my 2nd heel and brought up the video. I am delighted to just now notice the transcript on the right side of the screen. I jumped to 9:00 minutes where the actual knitting begins. I have never seen a transcript in a video before. Downright genius! ❤️🙏🏼❤️
Thank you so much, Denise. Has anyone ever told you that you are the Bob Ross for knitting? I was trying to make a wrap and turn heel. I understood the first half of the heel, but was having trouble with the second half. Watching this video made it easier for me to understand the w & t much better. The only issue I have now is that when I picked up the wraps on the purl side, I must have done it the wrong way because of the way the stitches lay. I will send you a picture through Instagram. Thank you again! I will be going back and watching your complete sock course! 💜💜💜
Denise! This is fantastic. You are an incredible teacher and I knitted right along with you. Your voice is so soothing. Thank you so much for this video!! 💜🩷❤️
I tuned in to learn this ‘new to me’ heel technique and have discovered the hands-down best knitting teacher on TH-cam today. Your style of teaching and camera work are marvelous! ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so very much for this amazing tutorial. I have always shied away from socks because I found the heels so cumbersome. This is an absolute game changer. I heard about this from Julia of The Happy Knitting Podcast.
I wish I could give you 10 thumbs up! I recently learned this heel with variations, but I like your method. It certainly is a keeper. Thank you so much. I need to revise this. I wish I could give you 100 thumbs up! Yours is the best, easiest method and clearest explanation of the Shadow Wrap Heel I have ever seen. I have shared it with my sock-knitting friends. Thank-you again and again!
Dear Ms Earthtones Girl, you are a wonderful teacher. I am following your directions for the shadow heel on your class number 9, and I'm so enjoying working along the direction of a master knitter who is also a master teacher. Thank you for your encouragement and for your clarity!
I found this via a Ravelry comment/link, when I was starting to get really overwhelmed by all the complex short row heel options out there. This is wonderful - a great heel, and really beautifully explained and presented. Thank you so much.

Your voice is so soothing and your technique and explanation so clear. Thank you so much! I’m sure this will be my go-to heel technique in the future.God bless you .

@EarthtonesGirl 😍...I've passed your tutorials to my friends who have watched my sock journey. I've adapted the pattern for my feet, and the first one fits perfectly, the second sock knitted magic loop method, loving that method. I'm now addicted 🤣 just ordered more yarn and 2 needles to try that method. My nest pair are having contrast heals, so I'm off to watch another tutorial 😍. Sending lots of love from the 🇬🇧 as I feel I know you now after watching more and more of your tutorials ❤️

You are such a sweet teacher to listen to! Made this learning process so calming! I did this with double strands of fingering yarn and it was a little challenging but definitely well worth it!
This is my third pair of socks with this heel and I just love it. It fits great, looks great, and is simple to do with not stitch markers to fiddle with.
I had learned this stitch from written instruction. It just did not quite look right. I was not picking my stitches up correctly for my double stitches. Your video was so great I appreciate the real time. And you are a wonderful teacher! Thank you!

I also like your calm, soothing voice 😊 Did a quick scan of your videos and have subscribed to your channel. Looks like great content. Thank you so much for sharing your skills 👍
This is the best heel I’ve done so far. Using this forever now, thank you so much!!!
You're so welcome! I'm so happy you like it!!
You're very welcome!
This heel is amazing! Combined your two patterns to knit a shorty with the shadow wrap heel. Just finished first heel and cannot believe how beautiful it is. And, a short row I can memorize - never would have believed it!
This makes me so happy!!
Once again you've hit a home run! I'm a FLK heel gal but I love this simpler method with the even weaved look. I have a WIP that's ready for its heel & I will try this method & let you know 🤞. Can you do a tutorial on contrast heel with this method?
I was just going to post about the contrast heel as well! Love this heel
You're very welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed the tutorial! I'd forgotten the birds were out "chatting" that day. So glad the were not distracting.
You are the Bob Ross of sock knitting. 😊
Thank you for sharing your talent and time.

That has to be the BEST compliment I"ve ever gotten!!! Thank you so much Tammy!! 😁

You are so welcome!
Thank you for your excellent tutorial! You’re a wonderful teacher, I live in PR, not many knitters here! I so appreciate knitting with you🙏🏾😘❤️
You are so welcome!
All of my comments mean very much to me!!!!
And I'm so glad you enjoyed the tutorial!!!
Thank you for this video, I'm going to knit this heel in my next pair. I like your real time knitting examples. It gives my brain time to absorb the words and see visually the result!
You are so welcome Andrea!! And thank YOU for the feedback. I'm so glad you found the tutorial and pace of it helpful!!
I have started many socks over the last couple years but I always get hung up on the heel…until I found this video! I just finished a heel on 9 inch circulars. Thank you so much for this tutorial, I have found my heel!
You are so welcome!
This Heel is amazing - just tried it for the first time and I love it
I love it. I appreciate you showing the whole process in real time. As I am a visual learner. Very helpful. Keep up the good work.
OMG, I have been waiting for this kind of heal!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
You are so welcome Juli!!! Thank you for watching!!
You're very welcome!!!
Everything about this message makes me so happy. Thank you so much for sharing!! I’m so happy you enjoyed the tutorial!!!! 🧶🧦
Thank you very much is the best explanation i have seen LOVE IT and the video so detailed i appreciate it DENISE ❤❤❤❤❤
You are very welcome and thank you for watching T.J.
You are so welcome! This makes me so happy to hear!!
I’m so excited to try this heel on my next socks! I had never heard of it before and a friend sent me your video. You are also a wonderful teacher with such a relaxing calm voice. I’m happy to have found you! 🙂
Yay! Thank you so much!!
This is a beautiful heel. You are a gift! And a fantastic teacher. Thank you, thank you!
Thank you so much! You are so kind!
This is absolutely the best heel! I've tried some other heels but keep coming back to this one. Thanks for the excellent tutorial.
Thank you for doing this in real time! I appreciate that you take your time and don't rush through. I'm excited to knit along with this video for my next pair of socks.
I am so glad you appreciate the pace! I love being able to explain everything as I go.
Hi Linda,
Thanks so much for your message and I'm so happy to hear you're back on track and loving the shadow wrap heel.
What a great tutorial! You are a good teacher. I've often wondered how to do a shadow wrap heel. Now I know! 🇬🇧
OMGOODNESS! What a complete revelation 🎉you are without a doubt the most amazing teacher ……thank you so much you are a complete star 🌟 ❤
You are so welcome!! Thank you!!
Your voice is so clear, calming, encouraging, and humble. Thank you! I stumbled on your channel after I struggled to follow other’s videos on short row heels. I found your way to be so perfect for my brain! 😮😅 Keep teaching us-you are the best! God bless
Wow, thank you so much!
A great tutorial Denise so much easier than the regular type of heel absolutely loved it. Thank you ❤
I'm so glad it was helpful!
Denise! This is fantastic. You are an incredible teacher and I knitted right along with you. Your voice is so soothing. Thank you so much for this video!! 💜🩷❤️
You are so welcome! And thank you!!!
I tuned in to learn this ‘new to me’ heel technique and have discovered the hands-down best knitting teacher on TH-cam today. Your style of teaching and camera work are marvelous! ❤❤❤❤
Aww, wow!! Thank you so much!!! I appreciate your kind words more than you know.
Thank you so very much for this amazing tutorial. I have always shied away from socks because I found the heels so cumbersome. This is an absolute game changer. I heard about this from Julia of The Happy Knitting Podcast.
You are so welcome!
Aww, thank you so much!!
Omg thank God for this channel. And for this tutorial!!
It's difficult to find tutorials on how to make a beginner sock.
And I need beginner friendly!
You’re very welcome!
You are so welcome! I'm so glad the tutorial was so helpful!
You are an incredible instructor. I purchased your sock pattern and am getting ready to do the heel so thought I’d watch the video again. You are so clear and precise in your video. It is so helpful. Thanks!
Just found your videos! Thank goodness! Your teaching style is wonderfully perfect. No nonsense easy, explanations and tone of voice is excellent. Thank you!
You are so welcome! Thank YOU!!!
I’m an experienced knitter and I have been using the Fish Lips Kiss heel method. This technique is superior! And I don’t have to do the dreaded “ Boomerang” row. Your voice is so soothing and your technique and explanation so clear. Thank you so much! I’m sure this will be my go-to heel technique in the future.God bless you .
You are very welcome. Thank YOU!!
Wow! VERY cool! Just found you! Have been doing a German short row heel, but THIS one is much cooler, and your directions are so clear. Thanks so much for this!!!!
I am making the Over Easy Socks by Holli Yeoh which uses a shadow wrapped toe. Was about ready to give up when I found this video. After watching your video I now understand the process. You are a wonderful teacher. Thanks so much,
You’re so welcome!! I’m glad it helped!!
this is one of the easiest heel tutorials ive ever followed!! knitting my first sock and this heel is just amazing 🤩🤩 finally no holes!!!! 🎉
That makes me SO HAPPY to hear!!!
Hello from Denmark, Thank you so much for takling the time to show us this amazing short row, heel. It’s thanks to your knitting tutorials and your sock pattern that I have learned sock knitting, and now this fantastic short row is added 👍🌺💐
You’re so welcome Leanne!! Thank you for watching!!
Yay, I'm making my first pair of socks for me ( I've made large diabetic socks for my late father), and I've just completed my heal. Thank you SO much for such a wonderful tutorial. Your teaching is so soothing and calm. I'm SO glad I've found you 💕
You are so welcome Cheryl!! I made large diabetic socks for my father too, many years ago!!! He still wears and loves them!!!
I'm so glad you found me too!!!
I am trying to knit socks for the first time. Thank you for the through instructions. I taught myself to crochet on my 60th birthday last January. I learned to knit when I was in Brownies. I have knit alot of items. Never felt confident enough to try. Until now Thank You So Much ❤️❤️❤️
You are such a sweet teacher to listen to! Made this learning process so calming! I did this with double strands of fingering yarn and it was a little challenging but definitely well worth it!
Thank you Mona!!
This is my third pair of socks with this heel and I just love it. It fits great, looks great, and is simple to do with not stitch markers to fiddle with.
Yay!!! That makes me so happy to hear!!
I had learned this stitch from written instruction. It just did not quite look right. I was not picking my stitches up correctly for my double stitches. Your video was so great I appreciate the real time. And you are a wonderful teacher! Thank you!
I found you by accident as your tutorial followed another one I was watching, absolutely loved your instructions in real time. I just completed my heel I can now sleep at night not worrying anymore. Knitting socks was on my bucket list for 2023 along with fairisle knitting. Both of which I now can do as socks were my last thing I'm 84 and have knitted all my life but have stuck to cables and plain knitting but decided that I wanted a challenge this year feeling proud of myself thank you for a great tutorial. Everyone going to get presents of socks now. Cheers from Australia ❤
Happy Sock knitting and cheers to you and Australia!
After hearing so much about this, finally watched it. SO great!
Thank you!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!
WHAT!!!! Where have you been all my life? I love it! Thank you Denise for a great video!
This is the best heel tutorial I've found on TH-cam! I knit my first pair of socks using a different heel pattern and was very disappointed. Now I have a reason to knit another pair of socks! Thank you for your calm and patient tutorial and for all the closeups! ❤
This was FANTASTIC! Thanks for taking me through the process so patiently xx
I’m so glad it was helpful!
I am so glad I found your video. The shadow wrap heel isn't hard to do it's just that different people explain it differently. Your video I vote for is the BEST. I used to do this method years ago and forgot . All I remember is the part knitting stitches together. I followed along with you and it all came back to me . I put your video on save to my favorites. You're a great teacher. I'm also a subscriber. I never saw your video until today and I noticed the video was done three years ago but I never got it where I live . Now I have it. Thanks 🙏🙏
YAY!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!!!
I decided to use smaller needles and I would like to know the size of needles you are using. I want to use either a #1 or #2. I noticed my stitches look better with smaller needles. I am using 56 Stitches to begin.
