I have watched EVERY shadow wrap heel tutorial as well as reading every shadow wrap heel instructional post. This is, by far, the clearest explanation out there. Thank you SOOO much. And thank you also for your well-modulated, calm and soothing speaking manner. It helps mitigate the incipient panic of learning a new technique. LOL
@EarthtonesgirlPodcast I've just taken an expensive class where she was useless and intimidating. She gave out wrong instructions then laughed and bossed when we got it wrong. Your own class is fantastic in contrast.
@@jennymccullough9517I like supporting my local yarn stores but those classes are very expensive and because they're in-person I can't rewind one when I need to refer to it again. Or slow it down, or go at my own pace. I don't take them anymore.
I laughed when you said if it was too slow the viewer could speed it up as I replayed the video for almost every twin stitch on my first heal and then every triple stitch/ new triple on the return. Thank you so much for this repetitive real time knitting instruction. I’m sure you would have run out of patience if you had to go at my pace. But replay has no limit to patience ❤. Hint to new sock knitters: soft fuzzy 100% alpaca in dark purple is not a good choice for your first sock attempt. Only plus is the numerous mistakes won’t show very much.
I replayed “it’s not hard, it’s new and new things take time” to my 5 year old (and myself) and had a great conversation about this! She struggles with new things and this was a great reminder! Thank you!
Don't you wonder sometimes how someone comes up with these things? I'm thankful for those who play around exploring possibilities and end up with techniques like this.
more than 10 years of knitting and i’ve never seen an easier short row heel and i’m in love! off to pull out some WIP socks and get them going, this heel is not only simple but gorgeous! Thank you for sharing.
I really appreciate how calm you are compared to other technique teachers on TH-cam--your hands and your voice don't jump around and it really makes it easier to follow what you're teaching. I'm knitting your One More Step Socks and this tutorial was super helpful to understand the new-to-me heel construction. Love the socks, love your videos!
I'm so happy your tutorials are still available. Even though,I've used the shadow heel since you showed all of us, mistakes do happen and had to go back and and refresh my memory. I used an old copy that shows to stop on the 27th stitch for a 28 st count, glad I checked again. Still love using this heel!
This really was overwhelming for me. Your calm voice and repetition of the necessary stitches so CALMING and in a language I can understand as I am knew to socks. Trying to knit baby socks using this method. Thank you so much!
WOW! My mind is blown. This is an amazing heel. The way you taught it was totally understandable and seeing it done in real time makes it so much more understandable for me. Thank you for this.
@@EarthtonesgirlPodcast Oh my goodness!!! I watched quite a few tutorials and even this one a half dozen times. It took me 4 hrs but I got the heel done!! Thank you for ALL your tutorials, now onto the leg and foot. I'm on it now and ain't no stopping me now. Hugs 💖
I feel like I could actually knit socks after doing this with you. (Heels scared me). For a pandemic knitter, who earned to knit last winter online alone, it was so pleasant to "knit with" someone. Many thanks for a beautifully done tutorial.
I watched this through, then watched it again while I made a heel! OMG! I have a heel with no holes!!! And it’s super easy to do! I managed to do the second heel from memory without any problems! Thank you thank you thank you for such a fantastic heel! This is now my go to heel!
FABULOUS! Denise, your video completely demystifies this heel! I can’t wait to try it! Thank you for another wonderful lesson in your calm, encouraging manner. 💕
I finally just completed my sample Shadow Wrap Short Row Heel! W0w! I have studied studied and studied this "new to me" pattern and am soooooo proud to have completed a sample. I have PHD "Project Half Done" a pair of socks on two circular needles up to the heel and am now ready to continue with putting on the Shadow Wrap Short Row Heel since I have completed my practice heel. Thank you Denise for teaching this procedure for the heel on socks and for teaching the "knitting two socks on two circular needles.....it has been quite an experience for me to learn both of these things. God bless Denise and continued success on your podcast. I am 78 years old and proud that I was able to learn these two procedures from your teaching.
Denise - That is one fabulous looking heel. I love the look of it, and how simple it is to work. No more getting lost on boomerang rows! The video was great: I could see you make all the stitches, and your explanations of what your hands were doing as you made the twin and triple stitches were simple, clear, and in time with your hand actions. That speaking while doing timing is quite an accomplishment. I can't wait to try this heel out. Thanks, Janet
YOU ARE TOTALLY AN INCREDIBLE INSTRUCTOR!!!!! I have avoided the heel for a hundred years - doing tube socks only - I am ready to do my first real sock!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your talent!!!!!
You are such a sweet teacher to listen to! Made this learning process so calming! I did this with double strands of fingering yarn and it was a little challenging but definitely well worth it!
Thank you for this video, I'm going to knit this heel in my next pair. I like your real time knitting examples. It gives my brain time to absorb the words and see visually the result!
This looks amazing! I’ve just finished a heel flap, heel turn and gusset, so much work! I can’t wait to try this! I’ve done a fish lips kiss heel which is similar with twin stitches, but this looks even easier! Great tutorial!
You are an incredible instructor. I purchased your sock pattern and am getting ready to do the heel so thought I’d watch the video again. You are so clear and precise in your video. It is so helpful. Thanks!
I’m so glad someone suggested a shadow wrap heel as an alternative to a short row heel and pointed me in your direction! I hadn’t heard of shadow wrap before and was intrigued. This will definitely be the heel on my next pair of socks. Your instructions are so clear and easily followed and understood. I also like your calm, soothing voice 😊 Did a quick scan of your videos and have subscribed to your channel. Looks like great content. Thank you so much for sharing your skills 👍
Wonderful tutorial and best short row heel I've ever seen! I would love to see you do a toe-up sock with this as a short row toe (with a provisional cast on picked up after the toe is completed). I can't wait to see what else you come up with. Your work is beautiful, and your explanations are so clear and easy to follow.
I have started many socks over the last couple years but I always get hung up on the heel…until I found this video! I just finished a heel on 9 inch circulars. Thank you so much for this tutorial, I have found my heel!
This heel is amazing! Combined your two patterns to knit a shorty with the shadow wrap heel. Just finished first heel and cannot believe how beautiful it is. And, a short row I can memorize - never would have believed it!
Once again you've hit a home run! I'm a FLK heel gal but I love this simpler method with the even weaved look. I have a WIP that's ready for its heel & I will try this method & let you know 🤞. Can you do a tutorial on contrast heel with this method?
Thanks so much for this tutorial! Your voice is very calming, your explanations clear and I like you showing the method in real time. It’s much easier than the FLK heel since you don’t have to mess with markers, count, etc. I will most definitely be buying your pattern and also look forward to hopefully seeing you explain how to do a contrast colored heel with this method.
Thank you so so much for this incredible tutorial. I am a new knitter and have only done heel flap and gussett so far, and wasn't 100% sold on it. I was able to incorporate this heel into my sock with no issues thanks to your clear and detailed instructions. Would love to see more videos like this!!
I started to learn how to knit this year and one of my goals is to learn how to knit socks. I just want to knit socks so bad. Your channel showed up randomly and I am definitely glad it did. You explain the process so well. I like how you have the whole course in your description box that way people (me haha) don't have to search and search to find the whole course. I am a new subscriber now.
Now I understand what all the excitement is about. I'm on my fourth pair of socks and this time they are for me! I'm going to be trying out this heel. Thank you, thank you for doing the whole rows at the beginning. My brain needs to see that. Take care and keep safe. xxJane
Denise I just love this heel! The sock pattern I am knitting called for a short row heel and as i was doing it I remembered this heel and came back to your pattern because it is so great! Thank you so much for the tutorial… it’s excellent!
I’m so excited to try this heel on my next socks! I had never heard of it before and a friend sent me your video. You are also a wonderful teacher with such a relaxing calm voice. I’m happy to have found you! 🙂
Long time fan of the shadow wrap / Twin stitch heels, it was the only one that seemed to fit me perfectly. Thank you so much for your , well thought out videos
Dear Ms Earthtones Girl, you are a wonderful teacher. I am following your directions for the shadow heel on your class number 9, and I'm so enjoying working along the direction of a master knitter who is also a master teacher. Thank you for your encouragement and for your clarity!
I'm so glad TH-cam suggested something so useful. Thanks everyone who liked and commented to boost! I love making socks, and always make the flap and gusset heel. First one I learned, it's comfortable on my feet, and I'm comfortable knitting it. I tried a short row heel, and afterthought heel some years ago, but honestly didn't like the process. This does look like a process I could enjoy and get comfortable with. I will have to see if fits my heel comfortably. I'm almost to the toe of my current pair and I'm excited to try this on my next pair. For now I will explore some more of your videos and see what fhe patterns are that are mentioned in the comments. Very nice presentation in pace and clarity.
I cannot Thank You enough!! I’ve been knitting basics for about 30 years, but wanted to take it to the next level, my problem, I live in the country, no LYS within 50 miles, and then there’s the work/life schedule. TH-cam has been a tremendous help, but the real bonus was finding YOU!! Your teaching style I find so helpful. God Bless you, you’re helping more than you know ❤
Hi Donna, thank you so much for your wonderful message. I am so happy that TH-cam and my channel have been such a good resource for you. I’m so glad you found your way here!!!
I have finally got around to working your Fearless DK weight Socks and worked your Shadow Wrap Short Row Heel for the first time. I am so excited as this is a game changer for me! So much quicker and like you say no holes and looks really neat. I love it. Thank you for your patience in teaching. I love it when you do lots of repeats of the steps as I am a slow learner.
Thank you so very much for this amazing tutorial. I have always shied away from socks because I found the heels so cumbersome. This is an absolute game changer. I heard about this from Julia of The Happy Knitting Podcast.
A wonderful instructor with super instructions that are so well filmed.A plus for me is that I can use this technique with top-down sock designs.Thank you from Kath in Oz.
Hello from Denmark, Thank you so much for takling the time to show us this amazing short row, heel. It’s thanks to your knitting tutorials and your sock pattern that I have learned sock knitting, and now this fantastic short row is added 👍🌺💐
One more comment probably doesn't men much to you, but your tutorial is awesome. You knit exactly the same way I do. I could listen to your voice all day. Thank you, thank you. I actually started a sock Christmas ornament and I was not getting along with the short row heel in the pattern. Then, I remembered your "new" shadow wrap heel. I went immediately to your tutorial. If Anyone wants to practice, trying it on an ornament is a suggestion.
Thank you so much for this video - game changer! I had tried the double-stitch, but hadn’t heard of the triple-stitch for the 2nd half of the work - genius! Thanks again!
Thank you so very much for this great video! Not only are your directions clear and understandable, but your sweet manner is a delight to watch/listen to. Thanks again!
A few years back, I made my first sock ever following your No Fear Shorty Sock! I wanted a new heel that would be easier, but I wasn't experinced enough to really understand the Fishlip Kiss pattern. (I guess I'm more a visual learner). I was disappointed that you couldn't make a tutorial for her design. Well, patience has won!!! I love this tutorial and it looks so easy to do with no fancy stitches or extra steps to closing holes!!! Thank you so much Denise!! I love the smile in your voice as you give instructions and your words of encouragement are so very refreshing. It feels like a hug of affirmation!
Hi Suzanne, Thank you so much for your wonderful message and compliment!! I’m so happy to hear that the wait was worth it! Your patience and understanding is deeply appreciated!!
Your videos are my favorite. Your voice is so calming and you show every step so clearly. I come back to this video for all of my sock heels now. Thank you for sharing your talents!
I am attempting my 2nd heel and brought up the video. I am delighted to just now notice the transcript on the right side of the screen. I jumped to 9:00 minutes where the actual knitting begins. I have never seen a transcript in a video before. Downright genius! ❤️🙏🏼❤️
Thank you for this! I was exactly like you, I can knit socks but was never happy with the look of the heel. I can't wait to try this! I'm a guy who knits :) My grandmother, who was basically house bound because of her health would give me some $ and told me to walk to the corner yarn shop and get her some pretty yarn. Different age back then :), Anyway, One day my wife and I were shopping in a department store. I noticed a "teach yourself to knit" kit. So I picked it up and my wife encouraged me to get it. Having watched my grandmother all those years helped me and I picked it up really easily. I may have discovered why she knitted. It's an awesome stress reliever, lol! Plus I love making things for people. Oh the Halloween outfits i've made for he grandkids! Anyway, Thanks again.
You are my “go to” for a lot of knitting techniques. So patient and encouraging! I will admit in spite of your fabulous teaching, it took me a couple of days to “get” this. I watched, I ripped back so many times. Somehow I had the GSR twinning stitches stuck in my mind. Finally I saw what you were doing after the turn to the purl side ( I knit continental) and I got it! Thank you so much!
I love your real time approach, your calm voice, and just watching you work makes me want to make socks like this. For forty years I've avoided socks because I was unhappy with lumpy heel construction. So, thank you!
I started knitting late in life. I’m in my 70’s. I just spent an entire month trying to turn a heel. I tried so many ways from afterthought to several varieties of short rows, even the faux german short row heel. I gave up for a few days then came across a pattern for socks knit flat and I thought I had died and gone to heaven but nope, I encountered trouble understanding the process yet again. Then I came across one more heel, your shadow wrap heel and glory be, I just completed my first heel successfully. It came out beautifully. I cannot thank you enough! My confidence is back and I am looking forward to a comfortable pair of hand knit socks soon. I bought the Soxploration and the Shortie patterns. I have dubbed you the sock knitting queen because you are an absolutely stellar teacher! ❤️🙏🏼❤️
Hi Linda, Thanks so much for your message and I'm so happy to hear you're back on track and loving the shadow wrap heel. Hooray for stress free sock knitting!! Enjoy!!
I had to re-knit the heel three times because, with travel, I dropped one or another of the twin/triple stitches. There is no way on earth to figure out how to re-wrap them, so I had to tink. The second sock's tension is much better and I am super happy with my first pair of socks after 50 years of knitting!! #socksplorationaddict
This is my third pair of socks with this heel and I just love it. It fits great, looks great, and is simple to do with not stitch markers to fiddle with.
I find your videos among the best ranking right up there with Norman, Roxanne and Suzanne. I like your instructional approach, and I LOVE that you knit English style. You’re a go-to for me and many.
THANK YOU. Your quiet voice, lime yarn, no other visual distractions and work ALWAYS in centre of frame. I knit a lot, even when visiting city, my hands are busy, knitting. Socks are the ideal project for the train being small. Until now I had to wait till I returned home to turn heel. Not now, as your demo can easily be put aside until later means no sock knitting at home. Concentrate on my big garments.
Fantastic. I finally understand the construction of a short row heel and won’t have to follow instructions step by step. I don’t know why I waited so long to watch this! Thank you!
THANK YOU. I have tried to learn to knit a GSRH from many other videos, and (after many frustrating hours) have NEVER been able to do it correctly. This is the first video that explained the process clearly. My heel came out perfectly. You are a fantastic teacher.
This is the best heel tutorial I've found on TH-cam! I knit my first pair of socks using a different heel pattern and was very disappointed. Now I have a reason to knit another pair of socks! Thank you for your calm and patient tutorial and for all the closeups! ❤
I am trying to knit socks for the first time. Thank you for the through instructions. I taught myself to crochet on my 60th birthday last January. I learned to knit when I was in Brownies. I have knit alot of items. Never felt confident enough to try. Until now Thank You So Much ❤️❤️❤️
I’m a newish knitter and thanks to you have now found my ideal sock heel, with the added bonus that it’s symmetrical. Your tutorial was so clear even my first attempt turned out perfect. I’m now going to work my way through all your tutorials. Thank you so much 🙏🏻
I have been knitting my heels like this for years as I modified the other heel pattern for my needs and had no idea that 1) it had a name and 2) that it was an actual technique. 🤣 I love this explanation, it is really well done and so clear! You clearly explained some things I've just "done" and couldn't wrap my head around how to explain it, so thank you! Also, I love that you used 2 circs in this video - while I am a total Magic Loop girlie now, 2 circs is how I found my love for knitting socks and I used to teach beginning sock classes using the technique for years. (NGL, I kinda want to pick up a couple of circs again and cast on something after watching this, lol.)
Thank you. I’ve been struggling with short rows that leave holes at the turn on non-sock projects so I’ll give this a try on them. And, with an easier heel, will start making socks again.
I have seen other videos of the shadow wrap heel. But since I have only been knitting for 2 weeks and have only made one pair of socks after breaking 2 circular knitting needles 😂, I didn’t understand what the Purl Together lady was doing. So I figured I will check out your tutorial and completely understood it. Thank you so much, you’re very considerate and that soft relaxing voice is calming to listen to. Thanks to you I found my go to knitting instructor. I feel like I found a friend, what a great day! So grateful😊
Just found your videos! Thank goodness! Your teaching style is wonderfully perfect. No nonsense easy, explanations and tone of voice is excellent. Thank you!
Wow! Thank you so very much. I’ve been struggling with GSR heel and this seems so much simpler!! I shall go retrieve my sock from the naughty pile and give it a life! X
Love your calm and supportive style of teaching! I’ve been knitting for years and have struggled with knitting a heel flap and gusset! This is life changing! Thank you!❤

I’m so excited to try this heel on my next socks! I had never heard of it before and a friend sent me your video. You are also a wonderful teacher with such a relaxing calm voice. I’m happy to have found you! 🙂
Yay! Thank you so much!!
Long time fan of the shadow wrap / Twin stitch heels, it was the only one that seemed to fit me perfectly.
Thank you so much for your , well thought out videos
You are so welcome!
What a game changer. Never having to pick up stitches again. Thank you so much for doing this
You are so welcome!
OMG, I have been waiting for this kind of heal!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
You are so welcome Juli!!! Thank you for watching!!
Fantastic Heel! No holes at all. Even when the stitches are a bit loose, no holes. My new favorite heel!
Thank you very much is the best explanation i have seen LOVE IT and the video so detailed i appreciate it DENISE ❤❤❤❤❤
Finally! No holes on the side of the heels. Thank you for your very clear instructions.
Thank you for your excellent tutorial! You’re a wonderful teacher, I live in PR, not many knitters here! I so appreciate knitting with you🙏🏾😘❤️
I cannot Thank You enough!!
Although I am German and there are German tutorials for this kind of heel, I always come back to your‘s as it‘s the best!❤
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you so very much for this amazing tutorial. I have always shied away from socks because I found the heels so cumbersome. This is an absolute game changer. I heard about this from Julia of The Happy Knitting Podcast.
You are so welcome!
You’re so welcome Leanne!! Thank you for watching!!
All of my comments mean very much to me!!!!
And I'm so glad you enjoyed the tutorial!!!
You are an outstanding teacher! I am trying this on my next sock.
Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for this video - game changer! I had tried the double-stitch, but hadn’t heard of the triple-stitch for the 2nd half of the work - genius! Thanks again!
Thank you Denise! Super simple and easy to learn as you show that they understand very little English. Thank you :)
Thank you so very much for this great video! Not only are your directions clear and understandable, but your sweet manner is a delight to watch/listen to. Thanks again!
Just turned my first shadow wrap heel! Wow! Your videos are so encouraging and give clear instructions. I'm so glad I found you here.
Hi Suzanne,
Thank you so much for your wonderful message and compliment!! I’m so happy to hear that the wait was worth it! Your patience and understanding is deeply appreciated!!
Perfect speed in a voice/tone. Thank you for the video.
Denise you are an incredible teacher. You made this heel seem easy. THANK YOU!
Thank YOU!!
You are such an exceptional teacher. Clear, concise, and soothing. Thank you.
Aww, thank you so much!!
New subscriber and German Short Row (Continental) knitter here. In ten minutes flat, you changed the way I knit socks! Great teacher!
Awesome! Thank you! That makes me so happy to hear!!! And thank you so much for subscribing!!!
After hearing so much about this, finally watched it. SO great!
You are very welcome and thank you for watching T.J.
Incredible video on the Shadow Wrap Short Row Heel. Very helpful, easy to follow and the best short row heel I’ve done. Thank you.
I'm so glad you stuck with it Linda!!! Thanks so much!!
I love your real time approach, your calm voice, and just watching you work makes me want to make socks like this. For forty years I've avoided socks because I was unhappy with lumpy heel construction. So, thank you!
You are very welcome Sarah!!!
You are a fabulous teacher Denise. Thank you for making this new process easy to learn.
You are so welcome!
Hi Linda,
Thanks so much for your message and I'm so happy to hear you're back on track and loving the shadow wrap heel.
I love it. I appreciate you showing the whole process in real time. As I am a visual learner. Very helpful. Keep up the good work.
This is my third pair of socks with this heel and I just love it. It fits great, looks great, and is simple to do with not stitch markers to fiddle with.
Yay!!! That makes me so happy to hear!!
You are so welcome!
Fantastic. I finally understand the construction of a short row heel and won’t have to follow instructions step by step. I don’t know why I waited so long to watch this! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
THANK YOU. I have tried to learn to knit a GSRH from many other videos, and (after many frustrating hours) have NEVER been able to do it correctly. This is the first video that explained the process clearly. My heel came out perfectly. You are a fantastic teacher.
You are so welcome! This makes me so happy to hear!!
This is the best heel tutorial I've found on TH-cam! I knit my first pair of socks using a different heel pattern and was very disappointed. Now I have a reason to knit another pair of socks! Thank you for your calm and patient tutorial and for all the closeups! ❤
This is absolutely the best heel! I've tried some other heels but keep coming back to this one. Thanks for the excellent tutorial.
Just discovered this tutorial of uyours, have watched lots but this is a game changer. I'm a new sock knitter and of course, I'm addicted.....
Everything about this message makes me so happy. Thank you so much for sharing!! I’m so happy you enjoyed the tutorial!!!! 🧶🧦
WHAT!!!! Where have you been all my life? I love it! Thank you Denise for a great video!
You are the Bob Ross of sock knitting. 😊
Thank you for sharing your talent and time.

That has to be the BEST compliment I"ve ever gotten!!! Thank you so much Tammy!! 😁
@@EarthtonesgirlPodcast 😘😘😘😘😘
Thank you!
You are so welcome! Thank YOU!!!
A great tutorial. At last i found the perfect heel pattern. I want it to look perfect and you explain it so well. Thank you🙏😊
Thank you!❤
You are so welcome Nancy!!
