Is TIMISOARA, ROMANIA the next expat Hotspot? (A guide for Tourists, Expats & Digital Nomads)

- In this episode Toby and Israel continue their journey the European digital nomad havens, having spent a month in Poland, another in Budapest, Hungary, they decided to check out a medium-sized city in Romania that actually is near the Hungarian border (it once was part of Hungary).
They had been tipped off that a place like this could be the next "unkown" digital nomad and expat hotspot. Cheaper prices, similar architecture, good food, easy to get around?
So watch and wait to the end to find out if this really IS the next potential digital nomad hotspot and what it may have or not have that meets that description.

@@amsalespush oh cool. Well I won’t be evaluating that for a long stay anytime soon because I am doing more affordable destinations, but either way glad to have you along for the ride :). Next up in one week is Istanbul and then I go all the way to the Mexican Caribbean!

Hahaha it’s not that drab I just went at the end of November :). It’s a very cute little city actually. And it’s not the most popular destination in Romania. More people go to Brasov and the mountainous cities. Thanh goodness they fled nice to see you on here!

Do people speak Romanian or Hungarian over there ?
I believe that the majority speak Romanian, but there are some Hungarian speakers still, including our tour guide.
Budapest is the capital of Hungary and it's a bigger city than Timișoara of course ...also, Timișoara isn't capital of Romania, but it's a city not a town 😉... It's really hard to believe that food costs the same in Budapest, Prague, Krakow, Warsaw etc, especialy because this are heavy touristic cities ... 🙄

Hi Alina! Thanks so much for your comment! We use the word "town" very liberally where I am from sometimes, but I get what you mean :) Yes, in our experience there really wasn't any noticeable difference in food price at the places we went to. I am not sure why this is. Keep in mind also we were not there so many days (Timisoara) and perhaps we had more time in Budapest and Krakow to find deals?? Would be interesting to see other people's comparisons in this regard. Are you from Timisoara?

@@TobyNomad yes there are my friend, there are places where if they see you as a foreigner, they hand you menus, designed and upscaled to the romanian, currency, also they tend also cheaper, than usual Romanian menus &(spots(they live of tourists, understandable)) Immo you haven't gotten the Timi exp enough, it's ultra cheap if u take the time to look for it, of course...btw nice vid
Little town? 250k people is not a town as I know. And please do not lecture about multiculturalism, it is a self-destructive social construct. Saw it in the US, Canada, and Western Europe. Keep in mind that Romanians were banned to enter in Timisoara for decades when your beloved Austro-Hungarian Empire was at its maximum shining. There are sensitive areas in history where explosive mines from the past can still hurt the present.
Hi Daniel! Thanks so much for watching the video!!! Your passion for your city is remarkable. Did I say "little town?" More like small or medium-sized city, you are right. For me and most digital nomads, 250K people is a small city but it's also relative. Budapest is massive and in the millions and I just got back from Istanbul! The word "town" in American English can have ambiguous meaning, but it's definitely not a small village. About multiculturalism, this is a big topic. Post a youtube video about it! I would not say that the Austro-Hungarian Empire is beloved by me, but fascinating for sure. I am well aware of the existing tensions that can exist between Hungarians and Romanians. While most expats don't have much stake in this battle, I can see how topics and ways of saying things can be inflaming. I am always interest in different points of view and accurate and credible sources to support those views. Feel free to post that here!
Timișoara have about 320k inhabitants in administrative limits, and 470k with suburbs.

@@TobyNomad Hi. I agree with you. Nice video. Was also travelling through romania. Because of multicultural and human being - YES. But take care in hungary. There some people are brainwashed through medias. It is all about politic there. Total brainwashed. Dont watch news there or read newspapers. First they are scared of refugees. And that someone wants to steal their money. The problem. Hungary is getting money from EU. Nobody wants money from Hungary. But you know...... It is somehow 60 years ago - sometimes.
