Hope you enjoyed your visit, should you plan a part 2 in Romania try the northern parts Maramures, Bucovina, it has many UNESCO world heritage wooden churches and of course stunning landscapes, or the south-east with the Danube Delta, a little Amazonian experience in Europe, safe travels for you and your family :)

Tons of farmers and agriculture/animal husbandry isn't industrialized so a lot of heavy labor for us

The sarmale are actually made with pickled cabbage or vine leafs is why they have the sour taste that fits so well with the sweetness of the meat. We pickle most of the vegetables but most common are cabbage and vine leafs (for sarmale) cucumber and green tomatoes (as a side dish for other foods). We don't pickle meat or eggs tho stay away with that sorcery! :)

Polenta ... is a big difference between grinded corn and milled corn. Italians make polenta with milled corn , is basically a flour . Grinded corn is different and makes mamaliga different .

@@teepsfam ok, I’m starting with the sarmale recipe:
      INGREDIENTS:
2 x pickled cabbage, a cup of round grain rice, 1 kg of minced beef/pork, tomato sauce (preferably the one used for Italian pasta), salt, black pepper, red pepper powder, dried parsley, dried dill, sunflower oil, 2 large onions
      PREPARATION:
      1. Take the cabbage and put it in clean warm water so the sourness comes off, change the water 2-3 times depending how sour you like it.
      2. After the cabbage is up to your taste, start and prepare the leaves, you open them one by one and cut the hard parts from them ( the part that looks like a line in the middle of each leaf, from one leaf you should make 2 sarmale) after you prepare all of them it’s starting the cooking
      3. Clean the onions, wash them in cold water for 2-3 min so you don’t cry cutting them and start cutting them very small, after you cut them put them in the pan with the oil( don’t be shy when putting the oil that’s the best part in sarmale).
      4. In the same time that the onions are SLOW cooking in the oil, you wash the rice and after add him also on top of the onions, add the tomatoes sauce, salt, pepper, paprika powder and the dry parsley and dry dill( add more salt and condiments because after when you mix it with the meat it’s perfect)
      5. After 10-15 minutes of slow cooking this mixture you put it on the meat and mix with your hands ( it should feel really soft, and the meat should be also sucking the oil and fat from the mixture)
      6. The last step is to make the sarmale but that you can find on TH-cam or on google I don’t really know how to explain it in words it’s something that you learn in slowly in time the more you make them the more better they will look.
      7. After you packed them and put them in a deep pot for the oven, add water on them just enough to cover them and Thymian ( this is the secret of my oma Thymian make your house smell like Christmas) cook them for 1-2 h on low heat and enjoy them with sour cream, spicy pepper and bread or polenta.
Also if you have smoked meat from a Romanian shop or something that you really like that’s smoked you can put it between the sarmale before you add the water it will add more flavor . PS don’t be scared to taste the mixture of meat and rice for salt and condiments before cooking it’s tasty also uncooked. Let me know after you try them what recipes you want more❤️✌️

@@teepsfamalso Papanași are very easy to make, the problem is that you will not find the cheese and sour cream for them I live in Germany and I try to make them with whatever I find here but they don’t come even close that’s the only problem when trying to cook Romanian food outside of Romania, the ingredients are not it sadly. Also you should try fried pommes with eggs, salty cheese on top and smoked sausages if you really like potatoes ( homemade made fries tho).

Do u still live in Romania? Because i have seen a lot of comments like this coming from people who leaved the country 10-15-20 yrs ago and have no clue about whats going on in Romania now !!! They are poor ppl in Romania, like in any other country, but if u work hard and want to make a good living, that is not a problem. Stop talking crap about ur country, things have changed

@@andreinecula6707 ...if you saw "a lot of comments like this"...then they may be correct? There is a GOOD reason good people left that country and continue leaving. And they are replaced by garbage from Asia... Grow a brain and learn to ACCEPT THE TRUTH even if you do not like it! Read again my initial comment...it is referring to "normal people"...which is the majority...not people like you that are NOT normal! And NO...I do not live there...(it is NOT my country), but I travel a lot including RO!

It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign langua
