" I feel like I can play anything ". Understatement of the century.
That is not what he said.
Wrong context. He was comparing a singer's instrument, their voice, as something that is harder to maintain than a musical instrument like drums or guitars.
It may be the wrong context, but the sentiment remains because he’s, you know…Danny freaking Carey. He truly can play anything
@@aj8580 Totally agree! He is amazing. But I didn’t want people thinking that he is going around saying he can play anything. I feel that he is also very modest and not driven by ego. Which I heavily appreciate as well.
Even tho it´s out of context, we all know and I think he knows that is literally true.
The fact (by danny’s account) that
Bob Ludwig, master engineer, was able to pick up a floor tom lug bolt loose from a track by ear, and was able to single out that noise by eq’ing it out for all the others to hear it is outstanding.
Absolutely crazy.
I agree absolutely amazing talent
Ludwig is the man in engineering
He seems like a really kind soul, absolute behemoth of a drummer.
The best drummer. Name someone better?
T. Haake, N. Peart, M. Portnoy. Do you really wanna go down that rabbit hole?

It's a tough argument if other world class drummers are 'better' than Danny. Lots of these 'best drummers' don't deal in polyrhythms and wild time signatures, but then you don't need to, to be a world class drummer hahaha
I wish so many egotistical musicians and songwriters understood the importance of arguing for the sake of the music and not taking it personally.
That's probably one of the most difficult things ever. 😅 Also outside of music...
You no the score singers are Divas need to appease them
So many? Unfortunately that's a "back in the day" problem. Commercially, rock music is dead. Fact of the matter is Tool are one of 3 (maybe 4) rock bands capable of dropping a new album which can reliably receive Platinum Certification. And all those bands are several decades old. And yes, Gen Z and their auto tuned hip hop and pop country crap (and that song writer guy Rick is literally friends with, despite the bad optics) are entirely to blame.
It’s true what your saying. But sometimes if you are the one who wrote the song, and someone in the band says I think that note should be this note, but you have written it in a certain way that is personal to you and your expression, it’s very hard to not take it personal.
Really have to pick your battles, sometimes give in to ideas you don’t like.
This is why I prefer writing and recording alone
Y e s ! I have a friend who is super talented and I think I'm really talented as well. He's the only person I have never really worked with because he takes everything so damn personal when I have input. It's really too bad because he is that talented.
the wide shot makes Danny look like a GIANT
He IS a giant
He is a giant!
He really is. Met him once. Hes gotta be 6’-6”. He’s massive.
He's almost 2 meters tall or 6 foot 6. He would make most people look like a midget.
He's incredible. Such a great drummer.
He is my favorite drummer today. He is one of the greatest drummers ever.
Nice of Danny to join us on Earth, every now and again. Much appreciated...now back to the Astral Plane, you go, sir! 🙏🏿🤲🏿
Amazing interview! Anything with Danny Carey talking about music and I'm there. My personal GOAT of drumming.
Danny is one of the most humble human beings on the planet.
Hes killing it with king crimson! Best choice ever!
Beat and Discipline are in my top 3 KK albums! Love Belew ❤
Seen Tool at Street Scene in San Diego in I think 06, I've been to many concerts, that was one of the best.
I was there! 🤘
@@brandonboucher7090 sweet, that shit was crazy, Maynard kept stopping the show to tell people to back up, a few people got hurt went to the hospital, wild night
@@brandonboucher7090 I remember the two headliners was tool and Snoop Dogg, obviously tool lol

Gonna be Epic
He's from near my home town in Kansas! Legend

Watching Danny's performance of Pneuma on Vic Firth's YT channel is a weekly ritual for me. What amazing talent. And that smile on his face at 10:42 when they nail the return after an extended rest... What a pro.
I also watch that video several times a month. In fact, the reason I stopped following the TH-cam drummer Meytal was her public dislike for "Fear Inoculum" .
@@stevenfunderburg1623 Fear Inoculum is a great album. I recently downloaded it. Every full-length song on the album is worth listening to over and over. The shorts/intros not so much.
He had a flub in that also, made me realize he is human, and it was awesome he let them put it out for us to see warts and all
Yes I love it! But, what pisses me off to no end is you know they didn't just record that song.... Where's the rest?
Yeah man I've watched it at least 100 times! Brutal
Great interview! He has so much passion for his music. That’s how they make it so good
One interview. Two absolute legends.
Yeah, Danny and Carey.
@@clutch2827yup
@@clutch2827I don't know why but this is the funniest comment I've seen in at least a month 😂
Sounds like something Norm Macdonald would say 😂
For anyone wondering, Danny really is exactly what you see here. Kind, happy, thoughtful, and forthcoming. A good human, or maybe superhuman?
Lovely human. We met the band minus MJK at soundcheck, and all the guys are awesome.
I’m a drummer over 50 (nowhere NEAR his level, he’s a true master) but man, when we do a full 3 hours I’m just done…. It’s brutal. Hats off to him to be able to play at that level for that long…. He’s just an amazing player. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to hear your playing, it is a true gift to the world.
I saw them last year, and though Danny says he's ok to play everything, him walking out after the concert to throw sticks, etc. He looked in pain. So much so that I felt bad for him. He was incredible of course, but I feel like we won't have too many tours left.
Tool said one of their members was dealing with a big health issue. Wonder if it was him?
@@te9591 When did they say this?
@pricc-om I saw it floating around I thought in a stray interview somewhere, it did not go into detail and it wasn't an interview from the last year or two. Part of what took them a while outside the lawsuit. Also, not trying to spread misinformation if what I'd read wasn't true.
The level of thought and detail that go into a band like Tools work is just so fascinating
Thank you for this! After this less than good day this made it north of sad! All Hail Danny Carey and Rick for this!
Saw Tool live a few months ago. Loved every second of it.
Everything coming from Danny is such a feel good experience. Always makes my day!
Danny is the goat on drums and I know I like other drummers for different reason but Danny is perfect in writing music it’s original technical and digestible to the common listener
Rad King Crimson shirt 💙
AMEN🤘🏽 on KING CRIMISON!
I feel like TOOL has the most equal mixing. Most bands the vocals project well above the guitar bass and drums. In TOOLs mixes, Maynard’s voice is just another instrument.
This! I've always considered them one of the most organic-sounding bands I've ever heard
DC has one of the best arrest videos.
The octopus! My favorite drummer! Would love to see you talk with Billy Idol, Trent Reznor, Josh Homme, Corey Taylor, Jesse from Eagles of Death Metal, Chino, Gavin Rossdale
Love this channel 2…too!
Going to see the Beat Project in Napa, CA on Friday the 13th 😎
ill be seeing them in oct in Cleveland OH
Shit that's today in the next town over, good thing I get to stay at home listening to the police scanner, gunshots, and sideshows.
How was it?
@@donovanjones4175 Great‼️
They played well and it was some of the best concert sound I’ve ever heard - loud (but not too loud) and clear.
Great mix - could hear everything.
Danny Carey, aka, The Octopus. He is amazing to see live.
If I only had 50% of Danny's drumming talent , I 'd be one of the best in the world ..........
the more i see and hear him, the more i like him. and ive been a fan since the early 90's so...
that's a lotta love
In the next life over, he was an 5th gen farmer with 300 acres and raised his family properly. They went to Christian Church on Sunday and held influence in their deep rural Nebraska town. He had all the farming toys. All of the tools. In this life, he's one of the world's best mainstream drummers in a metal band that will be known for the next 200 years.

The king crimson beat shirt is so cool
Aw man so cool to be able to watch these. An in depth interview with Maynard about songwriting would be the coolest thing. I can not comprehend how he does what he does with words and I’m a man about my words.
I've listened to Tool since the 90's. In all that time I've never seen a single clip of Danny being anything other than a stand up, likable dude.
I saw them at the beginning of the year. Danny was THE show. Amazing.
Ffs this dude is a LEGEND
would love to hear more music from Danny and Adam and Justin together , maybe a side project with or without another singer and call it something else ,
13 years between the last 2 albums ???
I know it was maybe legal stuff and or maynard was busy with other bands and wine or all of the above , I dont know , Iam just saying I love how those 3 sound together !!! the riffs and drum fills and bass lines and wow , really jams !! just sayn would love to hear more of them if for whatever reason they can't do another tool album for 8 more years , ooof , were missing out
I’m afraid Danny is a 1/1. There won’t be another drummer like him bc look at him, he can do the parts bc he’s a giant.
So please record as much as you can.
you think size matter? no pun intended😅
Greatest drummer ever.
First band I loved enough to know the name of the drummer when I was still a child . What a legend this man is ❤
You need to interview this guy like 20 times.
Whole lotta class in this clip friends.

Man what a drummer.
Saw them at The Gorge in George washington in 06. It was a great show and and awesome venue.
Just went there for the first time - I would pay to see just about anything there
Love hearing about his speaker systems
One month away from seeing Danny with Levin, Vai, and Belew at Massey Hall Toronto. 😁
Total gentleman. And unbelievable musician
A master of his craft and someone that genuinely loves his art.
2:50 - is Carey a Nephilim?
Half breed
Yes
😂
He helped build the Great pyramid
Probably.

I fucking love Danny Carey
0:50 uncanny: that was the very track I immediately thought might have started as a drum rhythm 😂
Danny is a giant!
Neil Peart said once ‘Playing a Rush concert is hard’ Mr. Carey has a great job, but it is not easy. 🤘
The hardest part of being in Tool, presumably, is having to deal with Maynard
He's so excited about music. So is Rick. That's why I love them both.
Exactly it’s fun. That’s what’s so great about music.
i can't stop looking at the end grain on that desk behind Rick.
Whatever their process, I just hope they keep it going. I friggin love Tool!
Bob Ludwig also said " I can tell Daney didn't shave this day, hear that whiizzzz sound?"
💫
King Crimson shirt....nice
Danny has earned his place as one of the greats
Man I'd love to have a beer with this dude. You can learn so much from him but even apart from that he's just so cool. Still stoked I got to shake his hand in VIP this last tour.
I met him outside of Rush’s last show. I said Danny, Very casually and he walked over and we chatted for about five minutes, and then he said “do I know you” I said “nope just a fan” he said “Oh the way you said my name I thought we might have worked together or something”. We chatted for another five minutes, super cool guy, then we went in and watched the professor crush it. 🤙
No musician puts more physical energy than a drummer. When Danny explains how 3 tough songs in a row take a toll. You realize how hard drummers work more than the other musicians.
As I get older, I am thankful for rudiments, my wrists are good but the rest of me, not so much.
I love this channel!
Carey the occult magician.
...such a nice dude when hes not summoning demons
My fav drummer of all time.

Interview 💯
Danny is special for so many reasons is drumming is just one of his many talents.
As always, great interview Rick.
I read it as Dana Carvey
I just found out they mixed FI in my town... strange, I didn't get the invite to provide live fan input🙄
Playing along to TooL made me realize my cymbals are too loud. Organically just jamming.

Tomas Haake has a tough job too
The most difficult part of listening is nodding your head to a consistent beat

Danny is the kind of guy you want to go out bar crawling with.
Its so funny seeing these 2 sitting on a couch together Danny's such a giant guy Rick looks like a little kid sitting next to him 😂
Without a doubt, best drummer alive!
Amazing guy!!
Have Steven Wilson produce a record
Thank you Rick, I had a less than optimal day and coming home to this tidbit buoyed my spirits and i feel renewed.
You're my YT fave. Be good man.

I subbed when you said something 👍🏻👍🏻
What an awesome dude. He’s a genius for sure.
TH-cam has been around for almost 2 decades. Can we stop with the PSA’s about subscribing? We know how it works. If people aren’t subscribed it isn’t because they are dumb or just forgot. They don’t want to.
The humble master.
"Danny is so humble"
Danny getting arrested for being belligerent: "Do you know who I am?!"
When?
I am not a huge Beato fan, but you must hand it to him; he knows how to conduct a great interview. These are really fantastic questions, and he really gives Carey the time to extrapolate.
Can i ask why your not a fan? I only ask because he doesnt seem like a polarizing guy to me.
@@jacobhayes1305agreed. I’m curious if this also.
@@jacobhayes1305 Hes got some pretty obtuse opinions about some genres (rap ect) and has been very matter of fact about thing that are more personal opinion.
Say that as a fan though.
@@jacobhayes1305 he lacks integrity and comes off as disingenuous a lot of the time. Too financially motivated for my tastes too. Nothing wrong with making money, but he puts the cart before the horse when it comes to making music oriented content.
He’s an incredibly skilled interviewer with a great musical memory and really understands how to ask musicians about their artistic processes and meet them on that level, which makes it all the more annoying that like 75% of his channel is clickbait “REAL MUSICIANS FINALLY DYING OUT?” bullshit

Rick just randomly dropping some Danny on us so we can have a little joy and wonder before the debate's tonight remind us of the reality that as Americans we are horrifically hostile and devided to the point that a literal alien invasion would now be required to halt our path to inevitable civil war👍
