I lost my friend and first girlfriend to cancer nearly five years ago. She had a fall and injured her leg which put her out of sixth form for quite a while and she was on crutches each time she could come in. Unfortunately, it emerged after a while that there was cancer in her leg that had spread to the point where it couldn’t be treated and we lost her just four months after she first got the injury so I echo Demi’s message. Act as fast as you can if something in your body is abnormal even if the professionals aren’t able to.

Sadly there's not much point raising awareness with the public if they can't get a GP appoitment or are fobbed off when they do. The NHS is shockingly disfunctional and inadequate and this won't change until people stop holding it up on a saintly pedestal and start admitting problems, and hold it accountable for the people it fails

I love the NHS and i’m so grateful that we have it but something needs to be done about people being turned away, and the time taken for appointments over potentially life threatening illnesses. My mum was diagnosed with womb cancer in October last year after continuously trying to get tested and trying to book appointments throughout summer. Eventually when she was diagnosed she quickly became too weak for treatment and we lost her 7 weeks after her diagnosis in December last year. She had only just turned 60 :( it wasn’t her time yet, i’m the youngest of 4 and i’m 19. Miss you mummy 💕

I found a lump in my throat in 2013 I was 18 at the time, after being brushed off by ENT that it’s just due to horomones or allergies I wasn’t seen or checked upon for 2 years (this is WELL before the pandemic) I was told by my GP they didn’t need to follow up “it was just a lump” and although my quality of life had reduced, tiredness, weight gain and ALL the symptoms I was ignored “blood tests indicate I’m fine”. In 2018 I finally got seen again, had another biopsy and all tests indicated not cancer but it had slightly grown so I had it removed. It was cancer! It’s really not a new issue that thyroid issues are left years undiagnosed, not monitored or tested properly.

Girrrl, I had mine removed at 24 in 1995. Only found it by accident following up with a GP about something else. He checked my neck and throat, and there it was. I know you're not faking it. Have been cancer-free since, but with removal of part of the thyroid, I've needed follow up bloodwork and med.
In one sense, you're fortunate that you don't know it's there because you may not feel it. In another sense, it's a concern because it's sitting there growing.
In my experience, having children means you'll be tired, like, forever. But, at least you caught it and may not have any problems again.
Personally, I blame nuclear contamination and other pollution for the high incidence.

@@Ambersands123 My thyroid was removed due to cancer 50 years ago. Tiredness is part of my life, but I'm thrilled to be alive. I'm not sure that your thyroid can be drained. For cancer they remove the gland. For Graves disease you need to give the pills time to work. If the meds don't help, you may need to undergo radioactive iodine therapy, which can be taken as a capsule or liquid by mouth. Usually one treatment does the job. The radioactive iodine compound used for this therapy does not have adverse effects on other tissues in your body. In rare cases, a Graves' disease patient may need to undergo more than one radioactive iodine therapy treatment to get their thyroid hormone levels down. The majority of patients who undergo radioactive iodine therapy will develop hypothyroidism later because the cells that produce thyroid hormones have been destroyed. Hypothyroidism is easier to treat than Graves' disease because it can be completely controlled with daily medication. Please don't be scared. You don't have cancer. Even if you did, thyroid cancer has an incredible high success rate for recovery. I am living proof.

Btw the docs didn't do anything initially said leave it
It was the fact I had a accident that it was then re accessed
