As a British Army veteran, I’m not surprised. The only option would have been to change units or transfer to a different regiment, but there would be no guarantee that the same thing wouldn’t happen again. The military recruits normal people from across the country and some of these people bring their racism with them. I’m glad she got out when she did and I hope she can find a sense of purpose in a new vocation.

Britain is easily one of the least racist countries in the world.
Can u guess which country’s routinely don’t permit different races to be in government or in police?
Can u guess which countries will put up prices in shops as they see ur skin colour?
can u guess which countries routinely road block u and ask for a toll just because they see the colour of the drivers skin? ….
So please don’t go around calling Britain a racist country when it’s easily the lowest on the list. And you will no doubt pretend the above examples of racism is just fine when it’s absolutely not.

We KNEW Kerry-Ann! Us black and mixed race Europeans we know, which is why most of us DON’T join the army or the police forces in our respective countries. I’ve gotten enough of it as a teacher every single time that I have worked with anglophones. I ONLY work in continental Europe now because of that; In EU countries my EU status protects me from the rampant racism of the anglophones (Americans and Brits mostly, and precisely), because they know that they are not the ones who hold the advantage here, not after Brexit, not anymore. Don’t get me wrong, their arrogant, racist vibes are still obvious, but they are less let’s say “daring” and emboldened in continental Europe, because they can actually lose their jobs here. Good for you that you managed to keep enough sharpness, in the midst of all the abuse and gaslighting, to have made a record of it and are now denouncing it; you are a pillar of strength and bravery. I’m sending you much healing sister, because I know (first hand) the toll that it takes. I lived in England for three years in the early 2000s, left there a lot of money in student loans, which I will regret for life. Those were the absolute worst days of my life, it’s an incredibly toxic, Godless place, shockingly so really. I really regret not having left immediately after I was done with my Master’s, and I don’t intend on ever even setting foot in the place again. I feel for the British minorities. This is exactly why family always told me and my kin, don’t serve in the military, “we aren’t welcome”. It’s sad to see this woman, who they obviously exploited to gain minority applicants, was treated so poorly for trying to serve our country.
This only encourages the narrative that if you’re part of the ethnic minority, you aren’t welcome to serve your country.
Same as why I would offend some if I said I’m English… it’s only melanin! It’s about time those xenophobic people accepted that we belong here too.

The military in general seems anti people who aren't purely ethnically English. I looked into joining the RAF as an officer when I finished my degree, but was told that I was not eligible for the role (as well as the back-up role I was interested in) just because I had also held another nationality. I am born in England and have always had British citizenship. Post-brexit, I claimed dual nationality through my mother to get an EU passport and be able to travel more freely. Despite still maintaining British citizenship, I didn't have the ability to apply for the job just for being associated with another country. I guess I dodged a bullet seeing how this poor woman was treated by the army.

I was 8 years old when she told me that, years later now as a black British woman I now understand. Sadly they will never take accountability because they honestly believe they've done nothing wrong. Also "person of colour" Rob? How rude and racist, I am not a colour and to address me as such is saying that I was meant to be white but ended having brown skin.
