Tractor brakes only became adequate when wet multi-plate brakes were introduced by Girling, initially on Ford 5000 and in 1972 on square axle MF 100 series, firstly on the new 185 model and soon after from 165 to 188. Girling dry brakes as used previously from 165 up to 178 were and are notorious for inconsistent braking side to side, contamination by moisture and oil, crabbing and locking on and, as they wore, great loud bangs as the disc expanders rode up the balls on ramps. Terrible brakes and it was obviously a top priority at both MF and Ford to develop and fit those superior wet brakes. Ford had a five or six year head start over MF because MF persisted in using rear axles and dry brakes developed for the MF65/765 from 1958 until 1972.

Not original tractormeter. Good brakes? Those dry brakes were never good even when new.

Not sure who’s worse at their duty ! The kid tryin to drive it or the terrible camera guy….jesus
