    So interesting, thanks very much. I used to drive a 135 and a 165 multi power in the mid 60s. Also had a very scary minute when carting corn and going downhill with multi power out...
    Now for part two. Excellent and very informative video, regards, Mal.

    Randomly recommended to me, I know nothing about tractors but plenty about Land Rovers so I still enjoy seeing how it all works. Looking forward to part 2.

    Nice! My grandfather had a couple of Massey's, a 180 and a 175, both late 60's. I believe he bought them almost new. My Aunt still runs both tractors on the family farm. Recently its become my role to knock them back in shape..... currently working on the rear axle of the 180. Looks like the Multipower is next on my list, as i understand it, it hasnt worked in years. This will be fun. Thanks for the comprehensive video on the inner workings.

    My first job whilst at school, MP on a 135 saved me from a serious accident when towing far too much NITRAM up a hill with a articulated trailer, there was no way I could change down using the clutch, but MP came to the rescue :)

    Thanks for part one. Looking forward to part two.
    As I remember MP in high wouldn't roll back on a slope either and gave them a higher top speed than non MP?
    Other than non MP135s I grew up around Ford's but had a poster of the MF3000 range on my wall, never driven one but always wanted one. Perhaps after the MP videos you could make one on the differences of datatronic and autotronic?
    Cheers

    • @ClarenceFudWeasel
      @ClarenceFudWeasel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's correct, it was designed to lock up so you could not roll back on slopes. I'll explain why in the next video I hope. Thanks for watching.

    Hello from southern Victoria Austrlaia. The first tractor I drove was a Massey Ferguson 135 Multipower, I loved driving it, I found that the Multipower gave you faster road speed, I would sit on 40kmh / 25mph on the road where as the Ferguson 35 petrol we had would only do 15mph / 30kmh, at the time in my area in the early 80s our tractor was the fastest on the road all the others like David brown, Fords etc where so slow.

    • @ClarenceFudWeasel
      @ClarenceFudWeasel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They did benefit from a slightly higher top speed than the non-Multi-Power models. Made them more fun to drive too. Thanks for watching.

    Before getting the answer by looking on the second video in the series, I’m going to say that the needle bearings that replace plain bushes on the cross shafts are what is different to the 100 series. I seem to remember this being a feature added to the 500 series when it was introduced in 1975.

    I was never exposed to Massey’s, but on your previous videos mentioning multipower I was hoping you would explain it and you can ramble on all you want. Better to give excess information instead of not enough. I chuckled when you said Ford was struggling with the wheel and John Deere strapped a stationary engine to the wheel. I was raised on a Farmall H and 460 while most the neighbors had Green. When helping them I admit that I was impressed that the 2 cylinder John Deere had if I remember correctly 6 forward gears versus the Farmall H having only 5 and C only 4. I’ll be watching for next video.

    • @ClarenceFudWeasel

      How about Cockshutt and Oliver, many of those around. I mention Cockshutt as I have a Co-op E3 (rebadged Cockshutt 30) which my father bought new in 53. I always liked it. Nice nimble little tractor, live power and creeper gear. I’d enjoy seeing you or Lord Muck find and restore a Cockshutt. I haven’t run mine in over 10 years, needs water pump and exhaust manifold. One of my many projects in waiting.

    • @ClarenceFudWeasel
      @ClarenceFudWeasel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We never had Cockshutt here at all that I have seen, we had a few Olivers though and also some Olivers sold in the US were re-badged David Brown that were made in England. Oliver 500 and Oliver 600 I think. Lord Muck is the David Brown expert.

    A inquisitive farmer friend of my fathers experimented with various Massy parts years ago to make faster road speeds for some of his tractors, He had a mk two 65 with 35 axle trumpets fitted, ( no reduction gears apparently),so approx 30mph.Later on he did the same to a multi power version and with the help of a local mf mechanic achieved 38-40 mph, quite simply alarming in the early 1970s.its great you are doing this and obviously know your Fergs 👍🏁 PS, I think he had MF 1250 multi power gears in one of his variants, and was still buggering about with 590s and 690s years later .

    Just wondering was the Multipower only availiable in the 3 speed or was it also in the 4 speed too? All of the 100 series had either 12 speed multipower in the 3 speed box or just a seperate 4 speed box, they are faster on the road too.

    • @ClarenceFudWeasel
      @ClarenceFudWeasel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Multi-Power gearbox was a little faster on the road than the plain three speed, but it was never offered on the four-speed because there just wasn't room inside the casting for a fourth gear and multi-power as well. Thanks for watching.

    • @ClarenceFudWeasel
      @ClarenceFudWeasel  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Technically it can be made to fit, the bolt pattern etc. is the same, but why replace a 236 with a 318? The 318 is a poor engine that is prone to top end problems, and there are not many good ones around. Additionally it doesn't have a stressed block so you would need side rails. In my opinion you would be better off looking at the various options for fitting a turbo to the 236 if you need more power, it is a far superior motor.

    Ahh but could a 380 or the 7810 make my dad vault over the fence and given Christie a run for the 100m sprint down to the yard without spilling his coffee like an International B414 in that era, I think not though it probably was more down to the driver

      Maybe not. Those are very specific measurements you have there. Were they part of the Nebraska tests or the NIAE?

    Amazing what "faults" are nothing more than operator errors. Shed blood sweat n tears on this 1😂. Between u n mukka I can't win u go bashing my love of blue an he goes bashing my love of red. I'm not admitting to either of you which I love more

    • @ClarenceFudWeasel

      Don't tell Lord Muck but I just like classic machinery, and while I worked a lot with the red stuff over the years, it's all good and colour doesn't really matter. but all the while it winds him up, I'm up for it 😂

    • @hsagri69

      Think that's true of any true machine nut. We all have our favourites and are favourite past time is winding each other up. I find the topic of straight pipes a good solid topic for mukka

    I remember my first experience with Multi-Power, and it wasn't nice. Some stone baked flapjack told me "If you need less speed, just drop the Multi-Power" - Right! So I was being sent to rotavate the back field, the field with a dirty great deep ditch across the end of it.
    This was where things went awry - There was a patch of heavy, knotty land at the bottom of the field. I needed less speed. Slower forward motion would give the rotavator more time to work up a finer tilth - Not with Multi-Power it didn't!
    That old Massey took off like a startled rabbit 🐰! Just like the one in the decal, and I'd just let the little bugger escape, with me on its back, and we were heading straight toward that ditch at warp factor nine. It was a bit of a scramble, but I just managed to get that thing under control before taking a dip. I do believe I made a new gate hole in that hedge, though! - Let's just say that flapjack back in the yard got a good ear bashing when I got back home.
    I mean, fancy sending out a 17 year old novice on an MF 165, with a word of advice like "If you need less speed, drop the Multi-Power".
