Very thorough review. I also modified the bottle opener into a flat head screwdriver. I also modded the scissors so they open further and ground down their tips into a fine point. I also sharpened the can opener and removed the tip. It opens up cans now and I can carve a spoon with the sharp edge as well. My newer Power Pint plyers tip meets at the end, so that can also function as a powerful tweezers. I was able to sharpen the hook edge as well. I buffed all the tools so they all shine brightly.

I have the black oxide one. I used to carry a surge and a wave + a big difference in my pocket! My first sog multitool and I don't think I'll go back to carrying a leatherman. The magnetic bit driver is a major plus in this little tool, I can use the 3D 1/4 bits that I already have. I personally do not like the leatherman 2D bits they always slip on a tighter screw head. I love the size, it's perfect for my hands as I am petite and what it is capable of. Yes it lacks flat heads but I easily modified the bottle opener and the file using sand paper and a dremel. I really recommend this to anyone that's hesitant to buy it.

An actual fair review. I have this little bit of kit and very pleased I am with it. The tip about opening a blade to unlock it, master stroke

    • @swnorcraft7971
      @swnorcraft7971 2 ปีที่แล้ว

One of the early Leatherman tools, required the user to open another blade to disengage the blade lock. I think it was the Supertool. If all the blades on that pivot were locked open, one had to lift the lock with an additional blade or such to close them.

Thank you soooooo much for using a stationary overhead camera and using both hands during the review. So many TH-camrs doing all kinds of reviews try to hold the camera and fiddle around using a single hand. This is much easier to watch and enjoy.

Decided to start my morning watching this today and am not at all disappointed: Very, very fair, comprehensive, and persuasive review, with the long video runtime being entirely worthwhile (though I just wish the comparable Bear Grylls model had been given a touch more screen time)
Looking forward to watching how you modified the blade-locking, and to finding my own copy of the PowerPint. Many thanks!!

The standard 1/4 hex bit driver also allows you to use hex drill bits. Probably more useful in a camping setting.

Another brilliant video buddy. By far the best and most detailed review of the powerpint.
No one else has mentioned how to close a tool without opening the whole thing to access the lock piece.
Can opener is a waste of space these days and I wish the scissors opened wider.
However all the pros outweigh those two cons. It the fills that gap between not being too small and virtually useless and being too big to EDC wonderfully. And with a simple adjustment can be made UK legal.
Cheers mate for this! Hope you had a great Christmas and Happy New Year.

Can openers and bottle cap lifters are both rather a waste of space on a pocket knife or MT. A good pair of scissors, a good file/diamond file, a good awl. All these are useful. If one really needs to open a can or bottle, there are myriad ways to accomplish this with a little imagination. Valuable real estate on a MT, really should be used better, IMHO. There is nothing wrong with a serrated blade. A partial serrated blade, on the other hand, another waste.

Wow, that trick about unlocking the tools is really smart. That was one of my main hangups about getting this. I do wish the pliers were springloaded but otherwise really impressed with this.

I'm a huge SOG fan with the compound leverage and one-hand opening.
I've had 3 so far, a PowerLock, which i still use, the PowerAssist, which the lock broke on the serrated blade so I can't use it, and a FlashMT which I managed to lose.
The PowerPint is a no-brainer at $50. Videos don't do justice to how small and portable this thing is, it positively disappears in my pocket.
The action is smooth, the tools are tight, and everything is very accessible.
I would have happily traded a flathead pry tool for the scissors or the seatbelt cutter. But the flat edge of the cutter kinda works like that for some screws or edges.
And at this price, I can still justify a full-sized one if I wish because I want something more up-to-date!
    Thanks for the great video!

  • @insanogeddon

Best tool ever faster opening than "fast opening" pliers, does the work of a massive tool yet disappears on person - add a Victorinox Pioneer Harvester/Swiss Army 7 and there is NOTHING in or out doors you can't manage no dramas.
You can reverse the handles to hold bigger objects than the LM crunch!
You can cut thicker nails than the wave and the edge sorts itself out with the comp. leverage.
Chuck a rangerband / old sliced bike innertube on if you're using the drver all day.
The blades and scissors need a sharpness once over, thr scissors need a wack on the pivot to be great, the spring on the scissors WILL break but they still work. A tool under the radar better than the lot .. big call but carry for years and KNOW.

I thought this would be my favorite multi-tool, since I wanted a multi-tool with a corkscrew, and I love the gears and bit-driver, but I found out the lack of a saw and the nearly useless can opener make me not want to carry it since an old Wenger pocket knife has the saw, screw, and many other things, and my larger Wave knockoff has everything BUT the screw, so I end up taking a different thing depending on what I think I might need that day, which ruins the point of an EDC. I need to either start carrying a saw blade I can clutch in the bitdriver or add a saw and sharpen the can opener of this SOG. Being stuck out in the wilderness with a can I could not open because this thing kept deforming the can more than opening it was pretty horrible. I ended up getting it open an old way that wasn't proper can opener use, but at least I didn't starve.
We need a video on sharpening the can opener, or replacing it with a pull style one that comes sharp. Victornox made push style ones famous, but the Wenger style pull ones are much more like the P-31, P-51 and FRED, all of which were militaries trying to find a cheap way that works. Real shame they went with a dull push that's more of a can punch.

Without a doubt the best review I have seen on the PowerPint thumbs up and new sub. The only tool I would love to see in the PowerPint is a package opener like the one on the Gerber Dime which is the best feature on the Dime.

Greetings from Finland. Gonna buy that nxt week and hovering 🦅 over YT to hunt info and found out couple things: the hook is also (mainly?) clam shell package opener, push hook in and pull. Second: prevent it opening in the pocket - glue a magnet one side of the tool to hold handles together. Gonna do that bottle opener redesign also...

    • @echoededge6669

The hook really opens clamshell packages - I just start by pulling it's downward on side. Did sharpen the can opener, it's far from good, but better than original. I’d be interested to know if your preference for the Leatherman can opener is a result of attempting to use the SOG can opener in the same direction as you’re used to using the Leatherman one. The SOG can opener is similar in design to the Victorinox can openers (which I largely prefer to the Leatherman style) which actually operates with a “forward” direction, in contrast to the “reverse” direction intended for can openers similar to the Leatherman.
