    This is my most-carried tool by far. So tiny but so useful! I've had mine for a few years but it didnt have any of the issues you had with your first one, so they must have updated it a while ago. I use pretty much all the tools, except the pull cutter. The little awl/icepick is quite sturdy and comes in handy more than you might expect

    Just got one at Walmart and I love it! The scissors are a minor setback but I only use the scissors to open candy wrappers. Overall I love it the powerpint is my favorite mutitool so far. Thanks for the video it helped me a lot! Keep up the good videos!

    Thanks for the detailed and thorough review!
    Being in the UK where we can't EDC locking blades this one actually registers on peoples' radar here, the reason being that it's easy to make it ''UK friendly'' i.e. street legal by modifying the blades by dremelling off the part which makes them lock, or even just swapping them out for other tools, or removing them entirely. The price over here is around £50 which is good (even a Squirt PS4 is £45 nowadays) and as you say it is a bit niche due to there being so few decent multitools out there in this size category. Would be good carried with my Spyderco Urban, my currently preferred EDC knife. But the scissors let it down a bit, for me after blade the scissors are the second most important tool. As it is I often carry a slipjoint dedicated blade plus a SAK with scissors (the Moneyclip is a good one to fill that gap and add a serviceable little blade) plus a multitool e.g. Leatherman Bond, or the Knipex Cobra XS. Or a blade plus the Nextool Flagship Mini if I'm going light and compact, I know I can count on those scissors.

    I keep this in a small zippered pouch with a small tin with common bits and a few tools for a lite tool set. Leatherman ratchet fits in the bit holder as well as long as you keep pressure on it. Thanks for all the great vids!

      I found a Boker plus nylon sheath that fits the PowerPint and a six piece bit holder. But doesn't it piss you off that they didn't include a flat head driver? Could have been really great but it loses so much functionality without an included flat head. The designers must have been high and forgot that a multitool should always have a flat head driver.

  • @missiondiscover

    I have a power access deluxe and actually really like it. I know you are not a fan, but everyone is different. I like the deluxe since the 5 main tools are one handed, it comes with bits, and a good number of tools (no scissors though). Cutting geometry on the blade sucks, but I don't have it for the blade. The quality isn't Leatherman or victorinox, but is pretty good while being a lot cheaper.

  • @austinbridge
    @austinbridge ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I believe you can put the leatherman ratchet into the bit space and use that with it.
    Also, a tool can close by opening another tool a bit, then closing both.

  • @MustaLaatta

    Without mods, but with some conciliation it's possible to fit leatherman rachet tool to the bit holder firmly. (Or other normal bitholder extensions straight of course)

    I have 2 powerpint, the other with a cork screw. I can say I love them as well as hate them. Love the design: the plier mechanism, the bit holder; the size: just big enough to handle many tasks but smaller than many standard multitools. But hate the quality of many tools: knife and scissors not sharp; the file is too rough. One last thing I want to point out, I can one hand open and close the plier because of the design, no need to only go for P2 or P4 for such feature!

    I have the same one in black and this little tool has been in my pocket since it arrived, even though I was kind of cold towards it in the beginning. What let me down big time was the almost useless scissors. Being used to Victorinox multitools and scissors which are the best in the world, I just choose to ignore the so called scissors on the Powerpint. Other than that, it's such a useful little tool with a great size pliers. I did modify mine a little and now I love it even more. I took a dremel and sandpaper to the bottle opener and turned the head into a medium sized flathead, I sharpened the can opener with the dremel and sandpaper so it actually opens cans now with ease, I sharpened the edge of the pull cutter so it comes down to a point to be able to puncture plastic packaging with it and pull cut, and I also rolled a fine sandpaper onto a q-tip and ran it down the pull cutter from the inside and sharpened it more so it cuts better. You might want to run the sandpaper on the back side to remove any burr. Now I know this powerpint will always be in my pocket no matter what other knife I'm carrying.

      Don't you think it's ridiculous that the tool doesn't have a flat head built in? I've never come across any other multitool that didn't have a flat head, it's the most basic tool. My $15 Gerber dime has a flat head but the $50 PowerPint doesn't. I found a Boker plus nylon sheath that fits the tool plus a six piece bit holder. But I want to be able to just clip the PowerPint in my pocket than have to wear a sheath on my belt.

    • @5to522
      @5to522 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@abc456f I do find that ridiculous along with the useless scissors that don’t cut anything. I wish Victorinox would make a pocket sized multitool with pliers. Every multitool is a compromise where you have to sacrifice one thing for another. Luckily, they had a tool on there I could file down into a large flathead, but I can’t do anything about the scissors.

  • @Dracomies
    @Dracomies 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm honestly thinking of rebuying this and just removing the scissors and a lot of the weak side tools and keeping this as a great tiny plier+file+serrated combo. Many of the side tools aren't good and are actually dangerous. Pliers are easily the best I've seen for something this size. I only like the tools on the right side (or was it the other side?). The tools on the left are too much crammed together and are actually dangerous (cut myself on some of those tools last time).

    The manufacturing is very inconsistent. I’ve owned about six this year alone. For some reason, the stainless steel versions I’ve owned had misaligned pliers with asymmetrical jaws, and the black oxide versions had misaligned handles when closed. I finally just settled on a black and stainless that still have some fitment issues because the tool is very useful and compact. It makes a great replacement for the Leatherman Juice.

    It’s also a great self-defense tool because if you’re walking in a sketchy area, you can just open one of those pointy things that’s not really a knife set that if you had to use it on someone, the cops really couldn’t say you were trying to kill somebody because it’s just a screwdriver or something like that depending on how sharp you want to go. There’s like that one little pointy thing and no one’s gonna say we’re trying to kill anybody with that.😂

    We both have similar concerns. I have the Leatherman original wave and I find it too bulky to EDC, hence I tandem carry a leatherman squirt P4 and victorinox manager. I rarely use the can opener hence this solution works for me.
    The new leatherman bond and leatherman curl are slim but still big to make a comfy EDC.
    The Powerpint in my opinion is just the right size for EDC and can do medium duty tasks that the squirt and manager tandem cannot do for the same footprint. Given the shortcoming mentioned in most reviews including yours. I decided to purchase the powerpint knowing its shortcoming, and I just mod it to make it better and just accept the flaws that cannot be modded.
    The size factor and convenience to carry is the main selling point for me. Quality is not Victorinox and Leatherman caliber. Not even close. But in my opinion, usable in a pinch for most EDC tasks. It doesn't do the best job, but it will get the job done.
    My complaints on the Powerpint / soltuions / acceptance
    1. The blade - the shape for me is not usable. It is an inverted straight back blade. Where the straight back became the cutting edge and the curved cutting edge became the back part of the knife (blunt side). I wished they just flipped the blade and made it a regular straightback it would make it a proper knife.
    The blade is also not factory sharp, but again usable. And it can easily be fixed by sharpening it.
    2. The pliers
    The pliers are great, but the wire cutter is crap. For thin 16AWG to 18AWG fine stranded wires, it can't cut in one cut, you have to do maybe 2 or 4 cuts as the wire is so thin it just slips between the cutting jaws. Not fun to use, but still it gets the job done. The squirt cuts in one snip. But the jaws of the squirt is just too weak compared to what the powerpint can do, so still powerpint for me. I don't cut wires often so I can live with it. I use the pliers more.
    3. The Bottle Opener
    For me the shape of this tool is poorly designed, they favor putting a nail pry part to get the tool out. I cut this off and made it flat. This now gives me a pry bar and flathead screwdriver, making this the most used tool I use everyday. I followed the width of the squirt as i find those dimensions very usable. Since the tools clump together when opened, the more you don't need the nail pry part so cut them off to get more functionality on the powerpint.
    4. Scissors
    My complaint is also the same, you can't open the scissors jaws big enough as the spring lever stops it from doing so. I don't expect to use the scissors much because of its design. But still, if you need to cut thread, tape or some other little stuff, it is still more convenient to use this that using the knife. It still gets the job done. So I just accepted its flaws.
    5. File
    at par with the squirt with a much bigger file. So Im okay with this. If this was a diamond coated file this will sure give more points. Can't be compared to a wave file but still gets the job done.
    6. Eyeglass screwdriver
    I love this, no complaints here. I use this for a lot of things. Piercing stuff, open torx head, anything. This is my multipurpose tool.
    7. Awl
    I use this as a scraper for abusive jobs to give my knife a break from this. This things is pointy, even more pointy than the knife.
    8. Can opener
    Never used, but yes the blade is blunt. I plan to sharpen this when i get the time.
    9. cutting hook
    I don't have a use for this yet but i plan to sharpen the hook to supplement the crappy scissors.
    10. The bit driver
    This accepts standard 1/4' bits. That is definitely a super plus for me. I don't use it, but for heavier tasks this is superior even to what the wave can offer. Not built in but you know you have it there. And with a bit extension and bits, you can use this for a lot of stuff
    In summary,
    The leatherman wave will do the job best with comfort 3x to 5x better. But with my age now, I don't like carrying the bulk
    The squirt and manager will also do the job best with comfort 2x better. But it cannot do medium duty tasks or take abuse.
    The power pint is not the best tool but it gets the job done. And I choose to EDC this because it is the best compromise to what is available in the market right now.
    So Leatherman, Victorinox, if you are reading this. I hope you make a multitool at this form factor I will definitely get one.

  • @senoB

    There are some things I like, like the gears give extra leverage; for such a small pliers it makes sense. However, many of the tools are quite substandard in functionality, fit and finish, etc. While I really like the form factor, I just couldn't justify the pocket space. SOG always has some great ideas but execution has left me wanting on multiple occasions.
    Edit: Looks like they have updated a number of tools. The file on mine (2020) was nigh worthless, like a nail file at best.

    Great video and overview. I own the sibling, the Powerlitre. For the size, im really impressed, especially the plier size and gear action. Very smooth to operates like butter, and useful on many typs of fasteners.
    That being said, while i like the tool choices for the most part, their deployment could be a lot smoother. It would also be nice to close each tool without having to open the tool back up, though the benefits of a locking system maybe the price we pay. Scissors could also open up a bit more.

    I am a huge leatherman fan, but…I absolutely love this tool. I only have/had one exception with it though, and i kind of that this speaks into Sog as a company. The quality control is hit or miss on these. My powerpint had really bad tool retention that would cause tools to randomly open, caused by improper washer placement/stacking. I tore the entire tool down and rebuilt it to my liking and have got to say its a go to now.

    After using this tool for a month now it has come in super handy. Its small enough to almost have no footprint I'm really happy with it.
    One issue I had was it unfolding in my pocket if moved around too fast that led to my first mod using one of my Daughters hair ties around the plier end. Easy to flick it off
    Second mod was putting a small length of heat shrink tubing on the tiny flat head that leaves a little sleeve for a 6mm bit so I always have a screwdriver on me. Its worked out really well

The wave I've had for years and the curl would not fit in that pouch. And the powerliter is without a doubt a better driver with the latch than both the Leathermans put together and this comes from someone who has defended the wave for years based on the utility of the bit driver.

  • @snosov
    @snosov ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, here is my experience with SOG PowerLitre - I fell in love in it right I get it in my hands, since right in the store I figure out, that I can use SURGE T-tools with PowerLitre's bit-holder. And it works great, and they are same length!
    However it was I great dissapointment in all other dimentions: blade steel was soft, can openner does not work at all, hook blade can't pass car belt, scissors does not perform good enought. And I dont like when bottle openner eat tool slot.
    So I end up selling it within couple of weeks after buying and get back to my Tti. May be (may be?) it is bacause of Chinese quality level and it was only my exact exemplar?
    Here is my hint for you: do not open pliers to reack the lock, open a different tool from same side - it would disengage the lock.
    Basically I could reprofile hook blade and can openner on my own to fix them, but I decided just to get rid of tool. Do you have some suggestions how to make scissors work better not replacing them?

      Have you found a solution for the flat head? I find it mind boggling that they didn't include one in the tool set. After pliers, a flat head should be the next most important tool. Leave it to SOG to screw up what could have been a great little multitool that clips to the pocket. My workaround has been to get a Boker plus nylon sheath that fits the tool and a six piece bit holder. But it needs to be worn on my belt.

    Just can't believe they didn't include a flat head driver. I found a Boker plus nylon sheath that fits the tool and a six piece bit holder. But I'd love to be able to carry it with the pocket clip but without a flat head, it loses so much functionality. If my Gerber dime can have a flat head, the PowerPint should have one too. What the hell were the designers thinking? It's very close to being really great but having to carry it in a sheath in order to have a flat head kills it.
