    Form Follows Function. Excellent. That generator is about the simplest one I've seen yet. That Sched 40 pipe certainly won't fail. I'd add a stubby chimney, and air vents with dampers in the bottom, however. Otherwise it's a steal of a design for a box that big.

    Greetings from Thornton Colorado!! I knew you guys were doing something else besides single malt scotch. You guys are always smoking things lol. A few weeks ago Brent got “Air Fired.” I also noticed the axe made a reappearance from a video some time ago. “ I wonder how that got in there” LOL and again at the picnic table. Are any of your neighbors missing? That certainly is a nice smoker. I wonder if my “ex” would fit in there? You could smoke her but not sure if good eating....... LOL. Again great content for the R&B’s Stavis Bay Smoker.

    The frankensmoker haha. Just a question. Are the seals for the door ok for heat as well as their original purpose? I've always wanted to try something like this but worry about things like that.

    • @ronross6946
      @ronross6946 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are magnetic, so should be fine. My old smoker was made from a warming cart not designed for much heat and were rubber and lasted fine. They aren't subject to much heat as unit is very well insulated, and seals are basically external.
      FYI you are the current leader in the naming contest! Lol

    nice video, thanks for making it. Two questions. What is the purpose of the two fans? I read in the comments about the flue chimney. Did you add any vent holes in the bottom of the box or is the airflow thru the smoke generator enough? I've got a box and planning my setup now and got a lot of good ideas from you.

    • @my-back-yard
      @my-back-yard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your interest! The fans circulate the smoke and heat gently and the only intake is via the smoke generator.

    Hey Ron and Brent, ironic you put this episode out the same day I smoked my 2nd batch of shoulder Bacon. Came out very good, recipe is fine, just gotta tweek a few smoking technique's. I checked out that place in Indiana, for hangers, but they are outta stock, and the one's on Amazon had mixed reviews at best. I'll figure it out. After doing 2 batches, laying on a rack, I can see clearly, It Must Be Hung!!! 3 questions, #1, I didn't see any racks, or rack brackets in this one, and #2, I didn't see a chimney on it, or doesn't it need one? #3, I have an Inkbird 4 temp probe remote, would you drill an extra hole to put the probe's through, or just close the door over the leads?
    Names:
    Beelzabub
    Ronte's Inferno
    Smokey The Bear (put a sign on the small one BooBoo)
    Chernobyl
    Just my mind wandering, lol (and if it wasn't on a leash, it would wander off)
    Great episode, Guys !!! Thank You, Mark

    • @ronross6946
      @ronross6946 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have racks and brackets, but need to get coating off with heat before topping with 1/2x13 SS flattened expanded.
      It does have a 4" chimney with damper.
      Yes, I would drill a hole.
      Last, I would not worry about a bad reviews on a bacon hook unless they break and bacon falls. There ain't much to them!

    have you had any issues getting to temp once it is loaded with sausage? I want to do something similar but that single element seems (or so i am told) is to small? just thought I would get your feedback.

    Hi, Ron
    Very nice!!!
    Got 2 questions:
    Can be used sawdust ,too?
    Do you use the bottom side to fire the charcoal or keep the fire the way you want and how do you do this???
    Thank you!!
    I appreciate it!!
    Vic

    • @my-back-yard
      @my-back-yard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sawdust would probably suffocate the coals. You could try it. The bottom is a metal screen that holds the charcoal and allows air in. We pre-light a few briquettes before we drop them in.

    • @viciosif6090
      @viciosif6090 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@my-back-yard What about the bottom fire?

    • @my-back-yard
      @my-back-yard  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not a fire in the bottom; it’s an adjustable temperature heating element.

    • @my-back-yard
      @my-back-yard  ปีที่แล้ว

      To be clear, there are two heat sources:
      1. Charcoal in the smoke generator on the outside of the smoker
      2. Electric heating element on the bottom, inside.

    Due you have any concerns/worries of plastic/rubber parts melting or giving off fumes/off flavors to the meat?Do you have any type of outlet/vent at the top or is the box pretty much sealed?Name???Brent's BadAss Bacon Box!

    • @ronross6946
      @ronross6946 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Inside is metal, and I tested to 250 degrees with no problems except for plastic plug mentioned in video. Like any new appliance, you should clean it and get it to the hottest temp you will use for several hours. Clean again and check for odors. This insulation is rated at 250. Common since has to be used. Most of my smoking is done under 200. I have a 4"pipe with damper in the top.

      @Bowtie41 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ronross6946 Thanks for the rapid reply! I saw what looked like a pipe at the top,hence the question.Going to do a similar build now(sorry for being a copycat,lol)Where do you leave the damper set,as I'm sure it affects temperature......Thanks again for sharing!

      @ronross6946 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bowtie41 Glad you are going to build one! You're not being a copy cat! I put these out there to inspire others to give it a try! I leave the damper closed until box gets up to temp, then open half way. I play with it opening and closing depending on output from smoke generator.
