    Did you replace the original door seal with wood stove cord? If not how long did the original seal lasy

    This is awesome and ingenious Larry! I love the idea of repurposing stuff! My Dad uses old refrigerators and freezers to store tools in them so they don't get rusted and he can lock them too. But I love this! Thanks so much for all of your great videos! They are really informative and inspiring!

    Did you have to remove panels and insulation?

    I made an old BBQ to run on bulk or one pound propane, natural gas, electric, wood (tool box stove) or open firepit.
    I stripped the burners and guts out and put the side burner on the bottom.
    The top removes so it can be used as an oven.
    It's not just a smoker...
    It's an oven, grill, BBQ, griddle, boiler, fryer, canner, dehydrater.
    Both sections can be used interchangeably.
    I had nine jerky drying screens that fit perfect, and three layers of grates.
    I could fit about 30 pounds of sausage, not mass production, but the versatility of this system can't be beat.
    The burner and gas control 'snap' into place, removeable, as is all other heat methods, screens, grills, etc.
    It has a temp gauge, lots of airflow.
    I've spent four days devising every feature I can think of, IE...reinforced the bottom so I can put heavy canner of water on the burner....
    I made a deeper depth of the cabinet, it protrudes out the back four inches, out of stainless steel and it really looks sharp. Snaps into place, removes.
    Has front doors and back access.
    Cost me a day just to have that feature.
    Add to prep supply....hard times are coming.

    I'm pretty sure you could but I have access to 3 boxes like stores sell bags of ice out of. It's metal on the inside that would work wouldn't it with a turkey fryer burner in the bottom of it ?

    Me and my dad just found one of these but it didn't look like a fridge because it doesn't have any space for the compressor and what not but no big deal. I was wondering I tho about the insulation if it was ok to leave it in there cuz of the heat? Not sure of its melting point don't want any of its flavor to get in our smoked meats.

    That is a big smoker! Did it used to have that white lining in the fridge that most of them come with now? the reason why I ask is that is see a lot like that.. some are metal and some are plastic but even the metal ones are coated with a white liner. and if it was do you think the smoke and melt that liner and get the toxins into the meat? thx

    • @larrylhall
      @larrylhall  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      This had no liner metal on the inside!

    i have a large chest freezer that went bad and I've been wanting to use if for this specific application. It is metal inside but has that light white coating over the metal. In your opinion, will that cause any problems with the product quality? Toxins etc. Thanks!

    It is a very informative book, I have a small wood smoker and would like to build a larger one but not had the money to do it yet. Lots of hickory trees on our property makes for some great smoked meats!!
    Like this video, good job. I will have to keep my eyes out for non working SS refrigerators like this one, I have a old samsung piece of junk that konked out while still under warranty but nobody to repair it around here. but it is mainly plastic so wont' work for a smoker...

      Mine has insulation but it is not foam! Should be no reason to remove it as long as the inside is sealed! I would leave it if at all possible because you will get much more even cooking! Thanks so much for watching the video! Here is a link to some of my most popular video’s on Pinterest!

      ***** I have a smoker set up like this with foam insulation... I keep mine 200 F and below temp to be safe otherwise the foam will expand and break the seals.

    • @larrylhall
      @larrylhall  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there is foam inside the metal no you do not need to remove it!

    • @burkeandrewj
      @burkeandrewj 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      no I didn't remove the foam and yes it has two layers of stainless. I use propane for the heat and got it too hot one time and the foam pushed the panels inside the doors out...cut the foam down and replaced the panels with 3/4" plywood.works fine. sealed the seams inside with some stove paint just to make sure there is no fumes from the foam too.

    I clicked on your pinterest link and it said "Oops, not found!" Why can't you go out and get one from a junkyard anymore? If the compressor is removed, you should still be able to get one. My father-in-law had a glass deli case that he put beside his garage, in the carport/woodshed area. (It was free because it didn't work). He kept all his soft drinks, beer, large bags of dog food and cat food totally secure from animals, dust, etc...I wonder if it could be made into a smoker. Seeing what you did makes me think about what else could be used as a smoker. Are you from Philadelphia. You sound like a guy I know from the VFW, and he's originally from Pittsburg.
