Robert Plant was 19 when this was recorded. Jimmy was blown away with what he heard and pretty much hired Robert on the spot.

Actually Plant was 20, their first rehearsal was on August 19,1968, the next day Plant turned 20. This album was recorded late September early October, over 4 days & about 30-35 hours start to finish. However they were all so young, & only together as a band a very short time before recording this, their whole story is so interesting.

THIS song is certainly my favorite Zeppelin song. It is PERFECT!!! Amazing to realize I first enjoyed it some 56 years ago!!!! It hasn't aged one bit, contrary to me!!!
Their early stuff was the hardest rocking. 1&2 BOTH embody what Rock and Roll was all about. It's supposed to be about. Technicians in studios have taken over the industry where everything has to fit into a mold. Zeppelin had it for sure... Tools got it on a level also. This album was recorded in 36 hours! I’m discovering that so many of the older recordings I love were primarily born in the creative flow of the moment. Sergeant Peppers, for example, was not meticulously fussed over. John or Paul would come up with something, and it would be incorporated or not, but quickly, lightly. It wasn’t analyzed to death! Same here. All the LD fellows were seasoned/tempered musicians, so the creativity radiated brightly and quickly.
Thank you so much POLO. This is one I discovered when I was 11 yrs old, 1991. This song and this album made my head explode. Good reaction, good take on this. Glad you covered this. Cheers. Nessa from the Kootenays.
Zeppelin I is one of the top 5 greatest debut albums ever, that's just fact. And maybe their best album period. If nothing else Plant's voice was never better
My wife, whom I have strove for 28 years now to educate on real music, responded when I played this on the juke box in a local club we were in. She jokingly said, "Are you trying to tell me something?" But as I told her, this is a desperate, desperate love song. It is sung from the perspective of a man who is so totally in love with his woman that, despite what he desires to do, he cannot tear himself away from her. His soul is hers.
🎼I missed this one too, Polo! I was listening to Pink Floyd! I’m only an hour late because of David Gilmour! I’m 71 and Led Zeppelin was big when I was in high school. Now I’m gonna be late for bed because of Robert Plant! Keep the good rolling at us Polo. I’m a musician and music moves my soul, especially these 2 bands. Add the Moody Blues in there too. All three could write awesome music.
Led Zeppelin Has SO MUCH power in their music. I grew up with them and it is nice to see younger generations discovering the beauty of what I hear so many Young calling them Dino rock groups. Thanks for liking the music I couldn't get enough of when I was a kid.
Polo once mentioned something about young people who have to work. I was raised on a cotton farm in West Texas. We (us boys) were expected to work just as hard and smart and long as any adult. I remember summers when we worked quite a few 16 to 20 hour days, planting, plowing, irrigating, stacking hay, spraying, hoeing and working with cattle. Longest week I ever worked was 120 hours. Didn't get much rest that week. I learned how to weld at the age of 11. I overhauled my first six cylinder irrigation engine when I was 14. I was expected to be able to work on tractors, plows, pickups, combines and cotton strippers; discerning problems and fixing them without supervision. BTW, I am old, so I have listened to and enjoyed Led Zeppelin's music from day one. I am a big fan of many other bands of that day and time.
Even in the urban UK, in the 50s and 60s families didn't have appliances or conveniences or supermarkets, so washed by hand, made food from scratch, fixed fires and fuel, walked miles and traveled independently to school, etc. The children were brought up to be able to do most adult stuff by the age of 12 - 14. We were a different breed to todays young. I joined the girls air cadets aged 12 and we were taught engine maintenance and repair of airplanes and cars, shooting, map reading, navigation on foot and by air, and flying, so many skills including leadership. I doubt such organisations exist now! I also had a saturday job from the age of 12 to basically support myself. So there I was going from shooting range to school to work to seeing Zep and other bands live at local clubs and bars, as normal like my friends did too.
I was also at one of those April 1977 Chicago Stadium shows but I was in balcony way in back. However I did manage to get 8th row center for fall dates that were later added. I was at a Bad Company concert at the Stadium and during intermission it was announced that more Zeppelin show were added and that the tickets were going on sale in the next morning. That was the first time anyone knew of this. We went from the Bad Company concert to Flip Side Records in Hoffman Estates and waited overnight for their ticket sales to begin. It was funny because everyone else in line also came from the Bad Company concert. Unfortunately the Zeppelin concert never happened as tragically Robert Plants son died and the tour was cancelled.
This is NOT a break up song. It's a song about leaving, if you listen, it's about a band member leaving his love to go out on the road. He's leaving in the summertime, when bands go on tour. But like he says he'll never leave her but he has to go away from this place. And he'll be back and they will go walking in the park every day.

Unbelievable aren't they Polo and you've only scratched the surface of their awesome music. Without doubt they are the GOATS.
Definitely hallelujah!!❤️
Polo I love your 0-60 comment. Zeppelin understood the magic of amplitudes, leading you gently down a path until boom they hit you with a landmine
Thank for digging in a lil deeper with this band. Album 1 and 2 are the best!
LOL Albums 1 and 2 are the best, except for Albums 3 and 4. 😉
@@djknox2 3 and 4 are quite awesome. Except 1 and 2 taught them ALL something!
Oh, we gonna fight over great music? Nope!
@@djknox2 true Dat. I cream 3&4!
🌸 each member of this group is so exceptionally talented and then when you bring them together it's just...magic
Playing this on guitar feels so nice with how you move on the fret board. There's nothing quite like it imo
Nothing like listening to a 20 year old Plant. It was different back then.
One of Led Zeppelin Masterpiece song and one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs!!!
Brilliant analysis Polo. You are intelligent and it is a pleasure to listen to you.
Very best. Keep rocking. 🙂👍
Led Zeppelin The Crunge, Dancing Days, Your Time is Gonna Come, there are just so many great tunes by them.
Dancing Days!! A favorite of mine.
I grew up on this tune. Is a part of my DNA.😊
❤❤❤Robert ❤❤❤
We and they didn't have social media taking up our time or brain space. More time back then to be truly creative.
Remember when most singers also played instruments.
That kind of work creates so much brain power, intelligence, common sense.
Polo - love your channel. You have a great vibe and your authenticity. This was another great song. Thankyou.
There's magic in Zeppelin. Every track is amazing. And you always remember where you heard it.
I’ve been really enjoying your perspective on the mighty Zeppelin..it’s how I grew up!
Ya gotta dig it man
I'm 68 yrs old and this is one of my top 3 rock/blues songs of all time!
Every song by Zeppelin Rocks! No such thing as a bad or not so good. Zeppelin Rocks 4 Everyone 4-Ever. 😎❤️🔥💯🦦
my favorite zep song! ❤ so GOOD.
Gallows Pole another good one.
Best band ever!!
This is my favorite Zep tune. April 7th, 1977 Chicago Stadium, 2nd row on the side of the stage next to Page.
My favorite band EVER💯
This is NOT a break up song. It's a song about leaving, if you listen, it's about a band member leaving his love to go out on the road. He's leaving in the summertime, when bands go on tour. But like he says he'll never leave her but he has to go away from this place. And he'll be back and they will go walking in the park every day.
It was written by a woman, Anne Bredon. This is a cover.
Finally someone understands this song..I thought I was alone
Not about a guy in a band
Yep, as it was written by a female folk singer, lol.
@madeleinegrayson8372 Zepp changed much of the lyrics, so the meaning is also different to the original.
