Glad you guys loved it. I’ve been loving that song for a long time. Zeppelin is very much blues influenced, as well as folk. For me, the bluesier the better.
Bonham and Plant were 19 years old here and it took 30 hours to record the entire album front to back . This album is considered one of the more legendary albums in the anal's of rock This song is originally a folk song written by Anne Bredon in the late 1950's. Joan Baez recorded a solo version for her 1962 album .
Led Zeppelin was a rock band that had massive blues influence. Throughout their career and spanning all their albums blues was always the major influence.
Wife here...Of coarse Looooove everything Led Zeppelin does..This is special to me due to the fact it was one of the first songs that I could play (almost perfectly )🥰 on Guitar...This song is straight 🔥FIRE!!!..I agree a "Bluesy type sound..,and getting it off his chest..".PERFECTLY STATED !!!
Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were out to start a new band combining blues and rock. When they told Keith Moon (drummer for The Who) he humorously said “That’ll go over like a lead balloon”. That’s where the band got the name. American blues was big among new bands forming in England at that time and Led Zeppelin were so very talented. You have four guys in a band that were massively talented and at the top of their game. Every album is brilliant.
Led Zeppelin is one of the best British blues rock bands. They played the blues with power and passion. They had blues in every one of their albums. Magnificent.
"Babe I'm gonna leave you" was a (semi) cover of a 50's song, written by Annie Bredon and performed by 60's folk singer Joan Baez (whom Robert Plant & Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin were fans of), hence the blues & folk influences of Zeppelin's sound. This was one of Led Zeppelin's first songs recorded in 1968, just after the band had got together after The Yardbirds had broken up... Jimmy Page did not have enough original songs written for the first album, so they recorded some covers... What they did w/ "Babe I'm gonna leave you" was take the original song and added new parts and some more lyrics... John Bonham (drums) gave it a heavy makeover w/ Page's riff. Zeppelin also covered Willie Dixon's 'You shook me'... and "I can't quit you baby" as well as Jake Holmes' "Dazed & confused" for the album. The first Led Zeppelin album was released in early 1969, and the reaction as the band toured N. America was instant - fans started buzzing about "Jimmy Page's new band" and FM radio put Zeppelin on the air... the record went up the charts and sold a half million copies in 6 months (currently 8 million copies sold in US). The second album 'Led Zeppelin II' had more original songs, recorded in 1969 on tour... it went #1 on the charts that fall as the single "Whole lotta love" became a huge hit.
Yes, Asia. You have it correct--Led Zeppelin was strongly influenced by American blues. This is particularly evident on their first album, which is where this track comes from. It's their unique presentation of rock blues that, for me, makes their music so compelling. And when it's executed by four of the finest musicians our our time, you can't help but marvel at the results.
It’s definitely right up there, at certain points in my life and presumably many other people. That entire first album is just awesome, particularly on vinyl!!
Fantastic song! I never get tired of it. The acoustic guitar, that spanish feel, the haunting background vocals, all of it perfectly placed. This off their first album, just gave a little glimpse of things to come, especially acoustic guitar-wise. How Many More Times another favorite off this album, completely different vibe though! Glad you guys enjoyed this one. BJ got off on this one! ✌️
I heard them play this song when we went to their concert at The Forum in L.A. in the fall of 1969. When this song blew the roof off the arena, they kept going and going. The roof was lost in space by the time the concert was over. Man! What a show! It's been more than 50 years and everything still sounds fresh and contemporary.
Ive literally been waiting on this one!!! This is one of my all time favorite LZ songs. Shout out to my older brother who took me to church with zeppelin and Floyd as a kid forced to drive me everywhere. Now I’m 46 to his 52, and we still jam out to zeppelin every time we are together. There was no other band like them.
Led Zeppelin was primarily a blues band. They just played it in a way that no one had ever heard before (or since). And, of course, they could play anything.
Their music has roots in the blues like most rock of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. They were great at taking the blues and making it hard rock that we jammed on in the 70s
When you've heard enough of their songs, you'll notice how many of them start with acoustic, morph into electric and then end with acoustic (for the most part)! That's just one of the many things I love about this legendary band. "Say it with your chest"!
Thank you so much for reacting to this song for me! I haven't been on youtube for the past few days. I have been busy caring for my mom. My mom is 74, she in the hospital and is going to a rehabilitation nursing home tomorrow to regain her mobility and strength. I love your reaction movie and all videos. You two brighten up my day and put a smile on my face through this time. Thank you for all that you do! Sending you both love! This song is blues rock! Led Zepp had that blues rock sound..
One of my fav songs on my absolute fav Zepp lp (their very first)... Folks that really like Zepp should listen to this whole album, tune by tune, IMO. Plant's vocals are so rich and span a very wide range without any strain, and are so well supported by the instruments, which go from acoustic to electric as the song meanders in its broad emotive journey. And, the psychedelic flourishes to a hard blues rocker are just beautiful! Thanx for another great reaction!!!
My favorite band of all time. This song is so soulful and powerful both instrumentally along with Plants painful wailing away. Masterful at their young ages.
I bought Led Zeppelin (1) in 1970 and its still one of the best albums ever made. Try listening to a later song Kashmir - you will probably recognise it.
This song is magic, seriously. It's like ocean waves. It can be calming like little ripples on the beach, and then it ramps up to big crashing waves. It makes you move!
Love this Zeppelin song. Such great vocals by Plant and the drum that comes pounding in is so powerful along with the beautiful guitar. Thanks for posting this!🧡
Led Zeppelin was my rock band growing up and in my opinion one of the best rock bands, the vocals and music is fricken awesome and you go on a musical trip with them
When I was in grammar school, classmates used to tease me for liking Zeppelin. This and many of their songs are spine tingling. 'For you life' is another you all should try.
This is the true test of how great musicians can be. Listen to the studio version, then the live version of 'for your life,' and you will see how accurate these guys are. Please don't ignore the bass playing of John Paul Jones! Phenomenal!
Zepplin is an enigma unto itself. Amazingly versatile band, covering hard rock ballads, blues inspired guitar and pain, and then some songs beyond description. Try "Thank You" for one of their more touching love ballads.
This song came out when I was 6 years old....it was awesome and made me a rock and roller for life....its about leaving to go on the road to play in the band
In case it hasn't been posted, that's actually a folk song written in the late 50s. The great Joan Baez covered it in the 60s and it was a hit. Zeppelin then took it and bluesified it, and added that signature guitar riff. Acoustic to more hard rock. Folk to Blues. This is off their first album. They covered a lot of Blues, like Willie Dixon, Robert Johnson. Zeppelin at their essence took basic Blues tunes and riffs and then AMPLIFIED the HELL out of them, really one of the first pop/rock bands to push basic blues rock (ie Chuck Berry) and turned it into hard rock. 68/69. That's why they became so dominant in the 70s. Teen white boys went crazy for this amplified Blues rock.
Great reaction guys. More Led Zeppelin please. You'll find the more you listen to them, Zeppelin has a massive blues and folk influence. Arguably the greatest band ever.
Oh man. This song is just so great. I grew up with this band. I was a teenager back then. I got into then, I do now. And appreciate the greatness of it now.
They do mix them. Plant into blues and rock & roll from early on. So you're exactly right. Here's from Wikipedia: He left King Edward VI Grammar School for Boys in Stourbridge in his mid-teens and developed a strong passion for the blues, mainly through his admiration for Willie Dixon, Robert Johnson and early renditions of songs in this genre. So, lots of blues influence. The Beatles, and many more, had much the same influence. But Led Zeppelin, I think, used it extensively. Thanks for the reaction!
English bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath were taking the blues and making it heavy, with beautiful light parts and acoustic aswell. It's the light and shade that makes the tracks so interesting.
This was on their fist album, “Led Zeppelin” 1968. The music on the entire is nothing but a celebration of the Delta Blues, mixing it with some rock n roll and done Led Zeppelin style. You would like “When The Levee Breaks” How Many More Times.” Well the entire album is a masterpiece IMO! It changed my life! So an English band took music from the Delta and introduced us to our own music!!! For real man!
Unfortunately, I didn't get to see Zeppelin when I was younger, but I did see Plant & Page on their tour in 1995. They are a hard rock band with a blues influence. Their music is timeless.
Your right, tons of blues in that tack ..The British kids went bananas when they heard the old America blues songs for the first time, back in the 1950's.
I've made this comment before, but it bears repeating. Imagine! Their first album and every song a masterpiece! I'm so glad to have lived during the time when music was ALIVE and BRILLIANT and so full of talent that we just considered it the norm! LONG LIVE REAL MUSIC!!!
Great reaction to one of my favorite Zeppelin songs. Nobody can emote with their voice better than Robert Plant. This song is actually a folk tune, but with Zep's unique bluesy rock twist on it. It is the 2nd track on their 1st album, recorded in 1968, dropped in early 1969. Believe it or not, Plant was barely 20 years old when they recorded this album, same with Bonham (drummer). Jones (keys/bass) was 22, Page (guitarist) only 24. Pretty amazing and a testament to the fact that these guys were just plain gifted. The thing about Zeppelin is that they were a blues-based rock band but incorporated so many other genres (folk, funk, country, punk, reggae, skiffle, you-name-it) that it's impossible to pigeon hole them. Their music is so versatile and creative, so multi-layered and textured, that every song is a real journey. Imo, no other band has ever been able to capture what made Zeppelin so great, though many have tried. If you really want to do a deep dive into Zeppelin's music, I suggest starting with album 1 track 1, then just keep on going. You'll hear all kinds of hidden gems that rarely get recommended for some reason. You'll also be able to experience their growth and evolution as individual musicians, and as a band. They were quite remarkable. Edit: Have subbed and looking forward to more Zeppelin reactions. I've watched the others you've done and I really enjoy your take on Zeppelin's music.
Best band ever to walk planet earth there isn't any rock and roll band's that can challenge the Champs of rock and roll led zeppelin for 50 years and still going on up to today its mind blowing how led zeppelin can keep you interested in their music the greatest band ever
This is from their LEGENDARY DEBUT ALBUM, basically playing together Live in the Studio. Jimmy Page paid for the Studio time out of his own pocket. To save money, they ripped it all out in less than 40 hours! Imagine hearing this for the 1st time in 1968! Absolutely blew everyone away, and maybe even your Speakers went flying across the room! One of the strongest Debut Albums of all time.
This is very heavily blues-based rock and roll. Especially Led Zeppelin's early music. Led Zeppelin is one of many British Blues oriented bands that go way back to the 60's with groups like, The Animals, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones, Cream, Traffic, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Savoy Brown, Ten Years After, Fleetwood Mac, Jethro Tull, Them, Jeff Beck Group and so many others. Joe Bonamassa did a whole tribute album called the British Blues Explosion Live that captures the essence of all these great groups and the sound that the British groups generated based on their influence of American Blues. Great song and wonderful reaction!
Led Zeppelin were very heavily influenced by southern blues - and they were hugely influential in crossing over blues into hard rock. But it can't be denied that folk and jazz were strong elements in their sound. Robert Plant later spoke of when Led Zeppelin met Elvis - they stood in a room for a few hours talking of their blues influences, many of which they had in common.
Most bands from the the 70’s (Late 60’s-70’s), had the most wide variety of expression. Most bands could have hard rock, funk, soul, blues, ballads, singer-songwriter, just heavy experimentation on the same album. That’s my favorite decades into the 80’s which were more polished. I always look at songs and say it has a vibe or feel like I listed above. My favorite Lef Zep song is “Ramble on” it has an acoustic smooth riff, and singing ing, then has a jamming funked out hook/chorus, with breakdowns that ..The beauty of these classic bands..Love the reaction as always y’all! 😆😎✌🏻
"The song was written by an American singer named Anne Bredon around 1959 and recorded by Joan Baez, who released it on her 1962 live album In Concert. " Led Zeppelin re-interpreted it in this version by adding the Led Zeppelin heart in the middle section but still paying homage to the original in the beginning and end of it.
@@darthv1001 and Lemon Song to name another... This is very similar to a Blues song by Howlin' Wolf called "Killing Floor." It was so similar, Wolf was eventually given a composer credit. On the original British copies of Led Zeppelin II, the label on the record lists "Killing Floor" as the third track and is credited to Chester Burnett (Howlin' Wolf's real name), while the liner lists "The Lemon Song" and credits Led Zeppelin. Some lyrics are from Blues singer Robert Johnson's "Traveling Riverside Blues."
@@darthv1001 for "Whole lotta love: Lyrically it borrowed wholesale from Willie Dixon’s You Need Love - recorded by Muddy Waters in 1962. Dixon successfully sued Zep in 1985 for royalties. Following an out-of-court settlement Dixon’s name was added to the songwriting credits. At the song’s fade out Plant also threw in lines from Dixon’s Shake For Me and Back Door Man.
Zeppelin stole the song, they didn’t reinterpret it -Zeppelin never credited the author, and when Bredon found out , Zeppelin was forced to list her as an author and pay back royalties …One of the many, many instances of Zeppelin ripping off others work and claiming they wrote it … thankfully, law suits have forced the scumbags to pay up repeatedly
@@rickfortier8664 Led Zeppelin stole a lot of people’s work - and been forced to pay for doing so …Lot of Youtub3 videos devoted to all the material Zeppelin stole …Dazed and Confused is mind boggling theft
This is off their very first album released in 1969 and they were kids basically. They were very heavily influenced by American Blues music and kept that influence through every album but the first album specifically is straight up blues just really turned up and rocked up.
Glad to see u anytime do a Zeppelin reaction. If u really want to experience Led Zeppelin u need to start at the beginning. Start with Zeppelin l that started in 1969. Absolutely love this band.
A delicate beautiful guitar, emotional lyrics powerful singing and powerful sound, really made this song so amazing.I used to sing this song to my girlfriend, and she would get upset early in the song, and I'd have to tell her, Wait!.. "we're gonna go walking through the park every day!, I must say, come what may".. ..
This is the song that got me into Led Zeppelin as a teen, before that it was my parents Bee Gees, ABBA and Disco (which I still enjoy LOL) but this was the song that made me a Zep fan for life!
They're known as a 70's band, but this was 69'. They were really pioneers in rock the same way the Stones and Beatles were in the 60's. They ushered in a completely different sound, the same way Sabbath did. Don't know what was in the water in the UK back then but they produced arguably the 3 greatest bands of all time, although I'm not the hugest Beatles fan, I appreciate the influence they had and their popularity is undeniable.
One of my many favorites by Zeppelin. They have been one of my absolute favorites since I was 12 when a friend of my older brother introduced me to Led Zeppelin by giving me a cassette tape he recorded with a bunch of all Led Zeppelin songs.
Bands like the Stones, Led Zeppelin, Cream and on and on were listening to the blues when they were young. Records were coming in from the States, which also included Buddy Holly, and the kids of the UK were devouring this stuff. John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and others had a huge impact on their musical taste and influences. They honed their skills on this stuff. So you are hearing the Blues, especially in their early music.
Babe I’m Gonna Leave You is a folk song which Led Zeppelin covered. Jimmy page put in Spanish Style guitar and Robert Plant makes it sound very bluesy with his vocal style. There is so many types of influences. The combination of it all definitely is a beautiful work in my opinion.
They have so many great sounds and songs but this is one of my favorites. Thank you!!! Yes this is definitely blues driven. Much of their music is. They just did it louder and with their own twist. You should really look up that meme if you haven’t. It’s about the meaning of all Led Zeppelin songs and it’s a pie chart and it’s hilarious.
No, it is blues/rock. They were steeped in it, four master musicians with encyclopedic knowledge of blues music going back to the first recorded sounds of the blues.
Good morning guys great reaction! I agree with Asia it does have a rock And blues kind of sound. Robert Plant's voice Has so much soul in it it's crazy.
One of the fundamentals of music theory is blending sounds into darkness and light. One of the great things about Zeppelin is their understanding of music theory. Great selection!
Led Zeppelin is a blues band at its core, going back to its roots as The Yard Birds with lead guitarists Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were session musicians for recording studios during those days when the Yard Birds asked Jimmy to join the band just before they disbanded. Jimmy asked if he could form a new Yard Birds band and use the name, and they agreed. At their first concert as the Yardbirds II, Keith Moon, the Who's drummer, said it would go over like a lead balloon, which inspired the bandmates to change their name to Led Zeppelin. There appear to be some variations to this story, so...
Maybe my favorite song from maybe my favorite Zepp album. But it's nearly impossible to choose. Like Cream & the Yardbirds before them, they were definitely a blues rock band. More accurate than heavy metal.
Still have my original vinyl album of Led Zeppelin 1… Still play it once in awhile with pops and cracks and all … Wore out a few copies in 8-track format … One copy friends and I played it non stop until it stretched and melted .. 😆 !!! 🤘🏼😁🤘🏼
Led Zeppelin can do any style of music if they choose to do so. If you listen to their whole catalog of music they do take you on a journey. Greatest rock band ever

We all wish that we had a time machine to go back and see these guys in their prime
Amazing Zeppelin!!
Unfortunately, I didn't get to see Zeppelin when I was younger, but I did see Plant & Page on their tour in 1995. They are a hard rock band with a blues influence. Their music is timeless.
This song was from their first album their first song I became a Zeppelin fan and still am
You know they were good when this was on their first album. A classic from a class act.
That vocal range is AMAZING!!
This whole first album is pretty much blues. Check out “I can’t quit you babe” and “you shook me “
Great reaction to one of my favorite Zeppelin songs.
So Excited! I love all things Zeppelin! But Bohnam in this….Masterpiece! Not one song sounds the same.
Thanks for listening
Led Zeppelin re-interpreted it in this version by adding the Led Zeppelin heart in the middle section but still paying homage to the original in the beginning and end of it.
I never knew that. I only recently heard that whole lotta love had a similar story.
The talent of this band is unsurpassed...
"we're gonna go walking through the park every day!, I must say, come what may".. ..
This was one of the first songs they ever recorded together in the studio, and was actually on their first album.
The Mighty Led Zeppelin !!!
This is the song that got me into Led Zeppelin as a teen, before that it was my parents Bee Gees, ABBA and Disco (which I still enjoy LOL) but this was the song that made me a Zep fan for life!
Asia is feeling it as this totally has the blues vibe~ as BJ said this era rock derived from blues....100% +++
Asia & BJ, you'll love their “Black Dog”, “Heartbreaker”/"Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)" and “D’yer Mak’er”!!!
One of my many favorites by Zeppelin. They have been one of my absolute favorites since I was 12 when a friend of my older brother introduced me to Led Zeppelin by giving me a cassette tape he recorded with a bunch of all Led Zeppelin songs.
You are BANG on! Blues Rock. Zep was a blues bad that rock it like no other. Thanks to the Blues we had LZ.
Probably my favorite Zep tune. Very latin-influenced chord processions fused with blues and even the heavy headbanging metal all in one track.
Recorded in 1968 and released in 1969 .. Still sounds as good today as it did when I first heard it back in the day 50+ years ago ..
Great reaction
I respect you 💯 a lot guys
They are just the greatest band of all. 👌
