Plant was what? 21-22 when he wrote that lyric? The theme of this song is astounding - literally young British lads going to California and conquering all. It WAS hard, but Zep made it look easy.
Zeppelin is magical. They give you deep home blues with neck breaking rock, give you epics which make you feel like you are in the halls of Valhalla or on a windswept battlefield; and then they have these beautiful songs that feel like a rest by a brook in Medieval England with tones of Stonehenge and rejuvenation. This music is timeless. They often bring these flavors that feel ancient and true.
Always hold this up to anything else they've done. It's the most simplistic song they ever did And to me, though I love songs like "when the levee breaks, the lemon song etc. " this one playing early in the morning as the days sun starts peaking over the mountain range. The world just fits
For so many of us, those who grew up on Led Zeppelin and are now in our 60's and 70's, this band was such a huge part of our lives. There was nothing like them, and every new song was epic. Most of us probably didn't know how lucky we were to be teenagers experiencing what would become legendary, and we probably took for granted that we would always have Zep in our lives. Since then, I have had my favorite songs and bands throughout the years... music changes with the decades, and so do your favorites. But that was the secondary favorites category. Led Zeppelin has had a category all their own, the greatest band that no other band could ever come close to. For 55 years, if you asked me if I could only listen to ONE album for the rest of my life, it would still be Led Zeppelin. Any Zeppelin album. I swear to you Polo, every time you react to a Zeppelin song, and you say it's fire, or you say you like it, I instantly get emotional and my eyes fill with tears of joy. That's just me.... but sometimes I wonder if anyone else gets emotional too.
Agree. Going through their catalog, I can find no song to skip on any album. Truly legendary and will exist as long as Beethoven, Strauss, Mozart, etc.
@jaydellgregory1134 --- I like to think I truly grew up listening to Led Zeppelin. I being born in 1965 am the youngest of four kids. The eldest being six years and a few months older than me. Our parents were young, married less than a year after mom graduated high school she had my sister at 19 and me at 25 with two in between. Music and art were constant in our house, although not hippies, far from it, my dad smoked weed and drank and did some drugs throughout the years, mom, straight from all girl Catholic school didn't drink didn't smoke, swore like a sailor when no one else was around. Everyone had different musical tastes so we listened to a wide variety of styles and genres. We grew up about a mile from the beach in Los Angeles, and we had a second house in the local mountains about a two hour drive from our main house. One of the rules for the mountain house was no television. Not just can't watch it, there was no TV set. My dad set up his upper mid range stereo and turntable and brought his and my mom's albums and 45s and 78s and my siblings would bring their music and I was only seven or eight years old so I really didn't own any records but that got me into buying records. The rule was everyone gets one hour to play their music, whatever it is didn't matter and no heckling or bullying. If you didn't like something you could go outside and hike or whatever. So, I'm hearing all this different music and of course Led Zeppelin was always part of my sisters hour of music along with everything else popular in 1972. Back at our actual house at the beach, my sister would let me hang out in her room when she was gone and I could listen to her records. I would put on the headphones and get lost for hours listening to music. Zeppelin always my favorite. No matter what other bands I got into as time went forward, or whatever type of music, Zeppelin was my constant favorite band. 59 yrs old now and Zeppelin is still my favorite.
I'm exactly the same. Led Zeppelin makes my life so much better and I also feel the same emotion as you when a reaction to their music is so positive. They are and forever be the greatest.
This is the first Zeppelin album i ever got.. i was so excited because of Stairway to Heaven.. turned out to be great even if it didnt have Stairway to Heaven.. few things in life have surpassed my expectations that much.. Going to California was one of the reasons.. Wait until you get to Ten Years Gone. Seriously just wait
@@ttaster1650sadly quite a few of their really great songs weren’t played on the radio, or so very rarely. I think a lot of people only know Stairway & a few others, & never heard some of their other greats & even masterpieces.
Zep is my favorite band ever! When m oldest my daughter went out to live in California, she and I always played this song together and apart, it reminded us of each other!! Also, Bring it on home!! Another great Zeppelin tune! RIP John Bonham
Both. And there was 2 nights of the live 1975 version. Jimmy wore the white suit one night, the black one next night. They keep taking down the white one. Its better by a bit.
Zeppelin is one of very few bands that I can put on any album and listen to the whole thing all the way thru without ever wanting to change the song! Robert Plant has one of my very favorite voices!!
Love your Led Zeppelin reviews. Songs you haven’t listened to yet that are worth a review: Ramble On, Thank You, Misty Mountain Hop, Black Dog, Good Times Bad Times, Rock and Roll, Heartbreaker and I could go on….thanks Polo!
I would like to thank Duncan Sutcliffe from 1987 WFUS sixth form for introducing me to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Pixies. You did well. Haven‘t been able to see the first two, obviously, but I did get to see Pixies on their Doolitte and just wanted to phone 1987 and squeal with excitement! Thank you for the music, and Polo, thank you for the heartfelt reactions, making me remember when I first heard the music, where it was, and who had the other earphone broken off the headset for easier sharing
I’ve been listening to zeppelin since late 80’s when I was 10 years old . My brother was 15 and would hear him listening to them. Still one of my favourite bands..
John Paul Jones is the Bass player and Keyboard guy for Led Zeppelin, but in this song, he's playing the "Mandolin." It just makes the difference in the song when played next to the acoustic guitar.
In southern Cali right now, been going there since I retired 8 years ago, allways loved this song frpm the day IV was released. My favourite single track is Fool in the Rain.
That's why kids back then had to work hustle and save between Zeppelin Sabbath Purple Stones Beatles Who Cream Skynyrd Hendrix Floyd etc every month another epic album came out
Polo ...great reaction. The Led Zeppelin rabbit hold has taken over . I would recommend watching this live and/or That's the Way live from Earls Court 1975 from the DVD. You get to see the band at home in England ..on their best behavior I might say and it's just remarkably eloquent. This band has no category which in any field is really the goal.
Sometimes cosmic forces interact and we get something like LZ. Amazing musicians that complement each other and the whole is greater than the parts. Their progression from the blues rock of LZ1 to the brilliant subtleties of LZ IV is amazing.
This is my favorite LZ song, I know, strange to say, but you called out all the reasons. It begins like so many of their songs - as though it's another quiet slow start to a hard burn finish. Just beautiful musically. As I watched your video, the acoustics for some reason made me think of Neil Young. I would love to watch you react to two songs from Neil's 1971 BBC concert - first, Don't Let It Bring You Down and second, a song rarely played, A Main Needs A Maid. Both have emotionally wrenching acoustic guitar and lyrics. Poetry really, set to music. Thanks Polo.
This song was written by Joanie Mitchell Awe...... love love this song. And of course ZEP!!!!! I was fortunate to see them in concert .... one of the best funnest, happiest days in my life!
Polo, you're doing it all right! Your channel is the first reaction channel i found. I like your insight, i dont sing or play an instrument but love music. Im missing the thing in the background that swings around. Im thankful you do what you do, lately it's been music that has been my distraction, and you've been the guy i listen with.

Yes @paxonearth! I was going to recommend Ramble On...Polo would enjoy the melody and the soft ethereal start the switches back and forth with the classic LZ rock drive.
Just before Covid lockdown in CA I saw a mandolin in the window of a pawn shop. This was the first song I thought of despite the fact that I'm a huge REM fan. Of course I bought it and I figured out how to play Steve Earle's Copperhead Road before I even got it home. Yes I can play Zep.
I am so thankful to have had a youth and included with Zeppelin The Beatles Moody blues... On and on. I was in Middle School and loved every bit of it. Thank you for having it here I enjoyed you getting to know it. It gave a new lease back to me on it after not hearing it for some time. Don't have one in particular to suggest. But I hope you keep doing more of the same. Have you done Nights in White Satin by Moody Blues? That's a real classic.
It was so nice to hear this. I had forgotten about this track. Beautiful. I recommend Led Zeps the Rain Song No Quarter which is a slowed down version with a live orchestra. Really special. Loved your reaction btw. Peace
Great Reaction Polo...you're my homeboy for real...i stay here for your Zeppelin reactions, they're genuine...you've managed to dodge an inconceivable amount of amazing Zeppelin tunes..."You Shook Me" is gonna blow your mind...much peace and love from Jersey City N.J.
The “Queen without a king who plays guitar and cries and sings” is talking about Joni Mitchell.
Yeah for sure!! Joni is my cousin!!❤
came here to say this, too. she inspired this entire song.
That’s what I always thought.
Never knew
Anytime is a good time for a Led Zeppelin reaction 👍
“Standing on the hill on my mountain of dreams, telling myself it’s not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.” Genius.
Plant was what? 21-22 when he wrote that lyric? The theme of this song is astounding - literally young British lads going to California and conquering all. It WAS hard, but Zep made it look easy.
Led Zeppelin's What is And What Should Never Be is FIRE 🔥🔥🔥
Beautiful tribute to Joni. The Double D drop tuning and mandoline is classic Joni.
The Battle of Evermore is another one of their great acoustic songs.

Definitely! And you get a bonus with that song…The beautiful vocals of Sandy Dennis. Check it out!
The beauty of Zep is their variety... Each album displays a new and unique sound. Try out Over the Hills and Far Away.
If you want to hear LZ at their most beautiful, I recommend The Rain Song
My wife just heard me listening to this and said, "Is that Polo? He's so chill."
Yes. Yes he is.
Thanks.
Always hold this up to anything else they've done. It's the most simplistic song they ever did
And to me, though I love songs like "when the levee breaks, the lemon song etc. " this one playing early in the morning as the days sun starts peaking over the mountain range. The world just fits
JPJ on mandolin, Jimmy on guitar.
Not true on the studio track. Jimmy did the mandolin on the album. JPJ plays the mandolin at live shows

Nancy and Ann Wilson do a phenomenal cover of this song and Nancy's audacious Mandolin is as good as John Paul Jones rendition. Great vibe.Thank you.
Let just be thankful we still have music like this to listen too. We who grew up with this were truly blessed.
💯
One of my favorite Zeppelin songs hands down, Tangerine close second!
The Ocean...❤
“Someone told me there’s a girl out there, with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair” That’s Joni Mitchel.
as you liked this side of Robert Plant, check out his work with Alison Krauss (an awesome bluegrass musician and singer in her own right).
I have both albums of their colabs. Honey to the ears....

Ten Years Gone. What a song. They never play it radio stations or mention it in discussions. As you can tell I love this one too.
@@ttaster1650sadly quite a few of their really great songs weren’t played on the radio, or so very rarely. I think a lot of people only know Stairway & a few others, & never heard some of their other greats & even masterpieces.
I couldn’t hit play fast enough!!!! ❤❤❤ This is a treat! so unique and captures a vibe.
Love listening to LZ with you, one of my personal favs is "Ten Years Gone".
Same here.
Absolutely
OMG… just scratching the surface
Definitely a favourite of mine, just beautiful
This song is my Number 1 favorite with The Ocean very close on its heels…
You do great work dude..
Happy Thanksgiving. I think it's a mandolin. Brings back many mellow, dreamy nights past. Mystical lyrics.
Thanksgiving is a perfect day to learn this piece of art exists. Share it with your son, share it with everyone who has never heard it
This has always been one of my favorites from Led Zeppelin
Great and Happy Thanksgiving to you also. You'll remember this track, it's dessert for the heart.
Zep is my favorite band ever! When m oldest my daughter went out to live in California, she and I always played this song together and apart, it reminded us of each other!! Also, Bring it on home!! Another great Zeppelin tune! RIP John Bonham
“The Rain Song”
Live
Album is a must version

Crushing on Joni.
I love this song - thanks for bringin̈g it, Polo,
And Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours -
never been to cali, that is until I took this ride with Led. Thanks polo, happy turkeyday
this song is perfect.
maybe a little more than perfect...heavenly perfect
This was one of the first songs I learned on guitar. Hours of rewind and play on the cassette tape. My favorite Zep song
Supposedly in Feb led zep movie is coming to imax
Hoping Tangerine will be in the rotation......I'll get ya another coffee✌️
I have no idea why this song was never played on the radio where I grew up. I didn't ever find it until TH-cam came into our lives. It's sublime.
Another laidback beauty is “That’s The Way,” from their third album. Wonderful atmosphere.
4 massively talented artists with Paige's genius of production. No band can exhibit the amount of talented this group had. Enjoy young man.
Beautiful Zep song. Polo, you'll love "All of My Love"
One of my favorite Zeppelin songs ❤
Live version of this song, from Germany, is unbelievable.
The live at Earls Court (1975) is really nice to watch & hear, their acoustic songs at that concert are all beautiful.
There is live video of them performing this song that is excellent.
mandolin is the instrument that sounds so beautiful
I don't say this often, but I think the live version is even better.
This and The Battle Of Evermore are a couple of favorites.
In case you haven’t heard That’s The Way yet then I recommend listening to it next it pairs really good with Going to California
Been waiting on this one! 🔥
Same!
This has always been one of my favorite Zep tracks, i usually have to listen to it on repeat a few times because it just isn't long enough
I love when Zeppelin does layer back music.
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 . Great pick !
Welcome to the family if ZEP ! Great music!
This was a fantastic reaction.
Exactly what I did the first time I heard this song.

I bought this album for my daughter on her 13 th birthday.she still listening to them
I listened to this song in the car with my husband our way to Thanksgiving Dinner. I used to listen to this album all the time.
I’ve been listening to zeppelin since late 80’s when I was 10 years old . My brother was 15 and would hear him listening to them. Still one of my favourite bands..
The girl "with flowers in her hair" was referring to Joni Mitchell.

Beautiful reaction. Have been really missing your music reactions. Hope to see more.♡
Yay! Another LZ review!!
John Paul Jones is the Bass player and Keyboard guy for Led Zeppelin, but in this song, he's playing the "Mandolin." It just makes the difference in the song when played next to the acoustic guitar.
A fave as a teenager in the 70's. I played it all last summer after essentially forgetting about it for decades.
In southern Cali right now, been going there since I retired 8 years ago, allways loved this song frpm the day IV was released. My favourite single track is Fool in the Rain.
There is a fantastic live version of this which I tend to listen to. The three of them sitting down just doing their thing.
Absolutely, I was at that concert eighteen years old '1975 Earls Court London ' !...
Tea for one by Led Zeppelin
Great blues song ❤
That's the mandolin. Beautiful instrument.
If I recall correctly, the woman in the song is Joni Mitchell that they are singing about.
That is correct!
@
See, my mind hasn’t turned ALL the way into mush🤣👍
We are so thankful for you too Polo ❤ thanks for sharing your journey!
Shift gears... Peter Gabriel, Rhythm of the Heat, Wallflower, San Jacinto
If you want to hear another laid back Zeppelin song, you might enjoy Dancing Days. It's rarely played on the radio, and it is another gem.
Yes! I totally forgot about that one!
That's why kids back then had to work hustle and save between Zeppelin Sabbath Purple Stones Beatles Who Cream Skynyrd Hendrix Floyd etc every month another epic album came out

Great song it makes chills I think in everyone

That's the Way

Both great
Great track. Really great. Thanks for the reaction.
Happy Thanksgiving. The instrument you were hearing was a mandolin Another example of their vast talent they have. Great reaction
