    Just picked up this JX hand grinder up due to my 12 year old Baratza Virtuoso's burrs being dull. Started having sour coffee with Virtuoso after a recent grinder cleaning.. Got this and am blown away by the quality of cups the JX produces! I don't use it for any Espresso as I only make drip, pour over & a little French Press! Love the build quality and ease of grinding with the JX! I'm starting to question if I even need an electric Fellow Ode with SSP Burrs! Thanks for the awesome review! It's right on par with my experience with this grinder!!

      Awesome! I’m glad it helped! Yeah honestly it’s really kept me from buying a bigger home grinder. This does an awesome job! (Plus I don’t have the counter space currently 😂) I’m sure sometime soon I’ll invest in a bigger espresso grinder but for pour overs and aeropress, this is pretty great

    I got a hand grinder because I live overseas with my wife, and we don't want to waste our money on appliances we can't necessarily bring back home with us. Thanks for helping me decide on the hand grinder xD

    This grinder is pretty amazing. The threads on the cup are different now so it doesn’t come loose. It is the best hand grinder IMO at any price.

    thanks ive been having a hard time deciding which manual coffee grinder I wanted. it came down to TImemore c2, Kingrinder k1-k6, or the 1zpresso jx. I think you sold me on the 1zpresso for it being an all rounder. I mostly do pour over but I do like to make espresso occasionally.

    • @JosiahDuenes
      @JosiahDuenes  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was facing the same challenges! But yes I like being able to do espresso on this grinder!

    Hey Josiah, thanks for the honest review! I've been working with the same setup as you (1zpresso JX and a Gaggia Classic) but I'm struggling with the espresso dial in. Would you mind sharing the number of clicks you use with the JX to pour a good shot on the Gaggia?
    Thanks for your help!

    • @JosiahDuenes
      @JosiahDuenes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the bean for sure. I’m using a light-medium bean and I do about one full rotation with an 18 gram basket. My shots have been pretty good with that set up!
      What part of the dialing in are you struggling with? Shots too long/fast? Too bitter/acidic?

  • @bradhughes4494
    @bradhughes4494 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Josiah, enjoyed the review. I just got mine and I'm really new to hand grinders(like this is my first one). Question about finding the zero point on the grinder...the manual says to turn the dial clockwise until the handle doesn't spin freely. This, me for, ends up at #2 on the dial and not #0. Is that common? Does yours do the same? The manual did go on say it might not land on #0. It just seems a bit weird and I wanted to see if that was your experience. And so a full rotation of 30 clicks will always be #2 full circle to #2 (for me) right?
    And I'm also curious how many clicks you use for your French Press and Aeropress. Thanks!! :)

    • @bradhughes4494
      @bradhughes4494 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Found my answer on Reddit. Yes, that is the case...the "zero" point can be different per grinder and is not necessarily at #0. I guess I just needed someone to confirm. ha. But still interested in your clicks for French Press and Aeropress (I realize it may vary per bean). :)

    • @JosiahDuenes
      @JosiahDuenes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah actually mine is on 7! But I’m glad you’re enjoying the grinder! I love this grinder and use it pretty much every day!

  • @Michael-jv9kw

    I have mine set at 75 clicks for a kalita wave pour over and it still tastes bitter. What setting do you use for pour over?

    • @JosiahDuenes
      @JosiahDuenes  หลายเดือนก่อน

      At this point I honestly don’t remember anymore. I haven’t actually made a pour over in a year. I actually broke my Chemex and never got around to replacing it. I am usually making an aeropress or espresso.

  • @gadooley7684

    I just got the JX yesterday and already love it. I do understand how to set the grind, but am still having trouble finding the sweet spot. How many clicks are you using for aeropress?

    • @JosiahDuenes
      @JosiahDuenes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shoot I forgot how many clicks a full rotation is. I think it’s 30 clicks. So 60 clicks for my aeropress coffee!

    Hi there great content. We have a pretty similar taste. I actually own a Gaggia classic pro and i am pairing it with a Eureka Mignon specialita and they’re doing great together but I’m gonna be traveling two to three days a week for work and I won’t really have access to decent coffee intake so i am thinking about getting an aeropress and a Q2 but then this came up and the price gap where I am buying it from (Germany) is around 26 dollars which is not a big deal (i dont know how much it is in the US tbf). I would 9/10 use it for aeropress or pour overs but I’m thinking of getting it over the Q2 just in case i end up buying a cheap espresso machine in office. What do you recommend? Thank you

    • @JosiahDuenes
      @JosiahDuenes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re planning on doing espresso at all, I’d go ahead and get this one. I know you’re mainly doing pour overs/aeropress, but then when the time comes to get some espresso going in your office, you’d have to fork out some more cash. I rather spend just a bit more and have it last longer rather than spend double!
      I do a mixture of aeropress and espresso from day to day and sometimes, I’ll make a French press if I just want a lot of coffee to enjoy so I’ve found it very helpful in that regard!

    • @ahmmoudy
      @ahmmoudy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JosiahDuenes bit late i have went ahead and bought the Q2 waiting delivery after the weekend, actually I realized i won’t really be doing any espresso while away from home just aeropress go and french press and if there will be espresso - unlikely - it would be a pressurized filter so this should mostly handle it. Thank you so much for responding cant wait to try it and the Aeropress go!

    • @JosiahDuenes
      @JosiahDuenes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just got this !zpresso JX grinder and I'm not sure how to set it up for aeropress coffee. How do you read the chart? Do I turn the dial one whole rotation, then 16 clicks?

    • @JosiahDuenes
      @JosiahDuenes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do two full rotations to start. If it’s a darker bean, I do 2.25 rotations! I forget the clicks

    I see just before the 5 minute mark you put the grounds back into the grinder for further grinding. Was this due to an uneven result on the first go round?

    • @JosiahDuenes
      @JosiahDuenes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually it they were whole beans. So when I take the grinder with me to work, I just put the whole beans I need in the catch bin. Then when I make the coffee, I pour it in like normal. Sorry! I see how that can be confusing!
