NOTE- it seems the Q2 Heptagonal can, indeed, grind for espresso. My unit has trouble physically going finer, but perhaps there is a way I can reassemble to make it finer. Apologies here! I have not had espresso from it, but i imagine it is as similar to X Pro as can be. Don't forget to like/subscribe/share/comment if you haven't! Lots of work go into these videos and the support keeps me going! Cheers, friends
Proud of 1Zpresso as a Taiwanese brand with lots of innovations, but I totally agree that the line-up is a little bit confusing. Really appreciate this video helping us choose!
I just got myself the J max and was searching for disassembly till I saw yours. Comprehensive explantion with cross ref to other brands. A very high quality video where it's a must see for every 1Zpresso owners.
You have performed such a huge service for 1Zpresso, their retailers, and their customers! Thank you Lance! This video is an absolute must watch for anyone considering an 1Zpresso grinder.
It was a tough decision between J-Max and K-Max for me since I'm mainly having espresso but also do pour-over occasionally. It seems that K-Max has better tastes overall, but I was concerning whether its 22-micron adjustment is too wide for dialing in the espresso. Suddenly the K-Ultra came out with a slightly smaller step size and I went for it. Although I'm not a big fan of the handle design, I had no issue dialing in espresso with K-Ultra and found myself using it more often than Niche Zero because shots grinded by K-Ultra are generally having more vibrant taste notes and more stable (with less channeling). In my opinion, it just nailed the espresso, not mentioning it's already good at pour-over.
there is no other option but to get both :D I got both and it's the best of both worlds. amazing filter with the K series, amazing espresso with the J-max.
i ordered a Q2 a few days ago to complete an aeropress travel kit. Thanks to Lance for reconfirming my decision. i wish i could have gone higher up in their line but it needs to fit in the aeropress.
I have the J-Max and I couldn't be happier. I wanted a 'do it all' grinder that would allow me to brew with my Flair without frustration as well as drip and batch brews. Speed of grind was also something important to me. This thing absolutely chews through a 15g v60 dose. Even though this is an 'espresso focuses' grinder I'd say 60-80% of the time I use this for filter coffee. I didn't want two grinders for different jobs and so this for me is perfect. If you're just brewing filter others will be better, but if you're looking to do everything I can't recommend it enough.
This sounds exactly how I use my J-Max as well. I bought it a few weeks after they released it. I was amazed when I saw it on sale on black Friday for $140.
Glad the ZP6 is still your favorite for filter. Once I made the first v60 with it, I was so impressed. I have never made a pour over that good tasting.
@@LanceHedrick If I may ask, for us primarily pour over brewers out there, do you feel that the taste difference between the ZP6 Special (~$200) and the X Pro (~$150) is worth the $50 (US) difference in price? Thank you!
Great work Lance! I wrote a blog post on our old website about the different 1z models, and it was one of the most visited pages so I'm sure this video will do really well!
This is so incredible! I got the K-plus about6-7 months ago and have been super happy with both pour over and espresso. I think this method of calibration is so much easier than other ones I have seen, which is awesome as that is one of my only pet peeves remaining with the grinder
Bought the JX-Pro about a year and a half ago. I got it for filter coffee, with the hopes of eventually getting into espresso. I absolutely love this grinder! I’ll probably be buying another 1ZPRESSO soon so I can leave one at work.
If anyone out there has the Breville smart grinder pro, that was my previous grinder and there’s a mile between the two in consistency. In retrospect it was an easy choice
9:58 THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT TAKEAWAY for me in this, was that the new 1Zpresso X-PRO *is basically a beefed up Q2.* god, thank you so much, this was driving me nuts!!! i have and love my Q2, so getting this one, for me, would be redundant. love the external dial tho for real. it's annoying on the inside, especially moving between different kinds of grinds. just between french press and espresso it's like "uuuuuuuugh god...... effort.............." because any tweaks involves opening it up. checking which one you are on, opening it up. setting it back to your usual, opening it up. love that it is portable tho.
I was considering purchasing a heptagonal Q2 until I watched this video. Then, X-Pro S happened. Thanks for the valuable info. Pretty satisfied how x pro performs on daily usage
A very well put together review and explanation of all the different models. Helped me a ton finding my way through the swamp that is manual coffee grinders.
Appreciate such a thorough review of all of these. I wish I had this when I was purchasing one. I ended up getting the J-Max, because my priority was espresso. I've been using it for a while now and absolutely love it.
Lance was pretty much the reason I decided my first ever proper grinder is a Q2 Heptagonal. Can't wait to get it and do pour-overs but will try also moka and maybe even espresso later. Thanks for the super informative video 🙏
About those magnetic catch cups: They're nice, basically - but they can be dangerous, at least on finer espresso grinds that require a more vigorous hand motion. My step-dad (late 70's) was visiting last week and wanted to take over grinding duties for the espresso machine. He hadn't realized how much strength it would require; about 25-30 turns in, he bumped the catch cup, sending it flying across the kitchen. Besides the mess, the aluminum cup took several good dings, one of them along the magnet line. It still works OK, but there are now a couple catch-cup-positions that don't hold as well as they should. Before grinding I have to jiggle it a little to make sure it holds right. That wasn't the first time this has happened, but definitely the most spectacular.
Oh, also, about the blind shaker thing: If the o-ring gets even a bit messy, it doesn't hold quite as well as it should. I've accidentally knocked it loose a couple of times. The results weren't TOO bad, but it's fiddly.
oh wow! I've not experienced these issues, but mainly because I grind in a very controlled manner. I have found better results grinding under 120rpm. I find most people go really fast, and this is what can cause the mayhem it seems you experienced haha! I understand the desire to rip through the coffee quickly, but you'll likely have a better result slowing down (and loads more mess ha!)
@@LanceHedrick Heh. It was more a strength issue on espresso settings. He wasn't grinding very fast, but when you're struggling to keep your rhythm you tend to kind of jerk the handle around. And if the bottom of your palm is right on the line between grinder and cup, that can knock the cup off. I've had a couple whoopsies of my own, but nowhere near that extravagant.
Totally agree with you. A K.I.S.S. approach is needed. One grinder for espresso, one for filter and a budget version (Q) is enough. And then adding a basic and “pro” (eg magnetic catch cup, silicon base, foldable arm) version of each would suffice… nicely done review.
I can highly recommend the 1Zpresso JE-Plus for darker-roast Italian style espressi (mellifluous, warm, bitter, etc.). Most people not too familiar with espresso prefer that kind (in my experience), so I tend to gravitate towards it when making espresso for family or guests, and I myself have also gotten used to that style, and consequently even prefer the JE-Plus to the J-Max. This might be partly due to the difficulty of getting good light-roast espresso beans in my region though, so take my experience with a grain of salt. One word in favor for the Max, would be that I fairly often find myself frustrated with the JE-Plus's imprecision. Great video! Keep up the great work :)
These are really bad boys! Too bad nobody in Europe had them in stock couple of months ago when I was purchasing a grinder. I hope they become more and more popular and build community like Comandante.
I want to buy X-pro for pour over but afraid from the point that X-pro tends to show more acidity . Does this mean that the sweetness in the pour over coffee is low ? Can I adjust that by grinding finer ?
@@abd-elrahmanmohamed9839 the level of acidity mostly depend on your coffee though. What I can definitely tell is that the X-Pro has lots of clarity. Also have in mind, that other factor like the freshness of the coffee bean, the water, the temperature and brewing technique all play vital roles on your outcome.
@@LanceHedrick I haven’t tried it, no. I’m not, like, totally opposed to it, it’s just that I pack my grinder in its case after every use, so it’s just not necessary for me 🙂
@@LanceHedrick Oh yeah, I don't mean it has an ergonomic difference, faff in the sense of an extra thing I don't need and an aesthetic I don't prefer. Just personal preference, not a poor quality product.
You wanted them to bring the ZP6 back, and they did! Now you're complaining they have too many grinders :D hehe. That is actually pretty good marketing advice for 1zPresso and a great breakdown for potential customers looking for a hand grinder and having difficulty choosing which is right for them.
“Having the bearings more spread apart increases stability- that’s just speculation” No it’s not speculation it’s physics. Balance a dowel on top of your hands. The closer your hands are together the less balanced the dowel will feel.
I've got an old 1zpresso Q2 Pentagonal and even with the burrs being less than ideal for filter (at least compared to the heptagonal version), it still makes a pretty solid cup of drip. It actually outperforms my Encore with the Virtuoso burrs installed.
Great video. I bought the X-pro over the Q2 heptagonal and the Normcore v2 a month ago based on Kyle's video. It has served me well in my rekindled exploration of specialty coffee.
@@LanceHedrick When I started, I was looking for a budget grinder and Kyle had good words for the Normcore. The Canadian seller for the Normcore also had the 1zpresso line. Further research and his and others more recent reviews lead me to decide to spend a bit more and buy the X-pro. No regrets.😀
Normcore is great. I have it, and I prefer it to a higher end/more expensive 1zpresso (JX-PRO) I had a year ago. The fewer clicks per revolution (still plenty for dialing in) makes dialing in brews easier/quicker (can still grind for any brew), and my JX-Pro was very off with its recommend settings that I wasn't able or willing to spend the extra time to get determine what setting worked with what brew (I calibrated, took it apart, etc... never got it right, seemed like I had 400 clicks/settings which was insane, should only have been a few hundred). Normcore will realistically stay within 70 clicks. However... I am perhaps interested in the JX Manual due to larger grinding capacity and faster grinding. I don't grind for espresso (Normcore would have JX Manual beat in that regard), but the quality of life improvements with larger batches and faster grinding may be nice. Normcore is dollar per dollar one of the on the market though.
I want to buy X-pro for pour over but afraid from the point that X-pro tends to show more acidity . Does this mean that the sweetness in the pour over coffee is low ? Can I adjust that by grinding finer ?
Lance, I have a Kingrinder K6 that I have had for about three months now and I am looking to upgrade. No, I don't have upgraditis, I really think a different grinder would be ideal for me. It isn't that the K6 produces a bad shot of espresso or even on that I don't prefer, it is good. However, I do worry about the longevity of the grinder. After around two months it started acting up, in that it was not changing grind settings when I dialed the ring in. Well, when you push on the bottom of the burr to remove it for cleaning, it turns out that it was getting stuck that way I've not actually disassembled it though just pushed up on it to clean. Turned out to have a tiny bit of rust where the shaft goes through the bearing (or something, I'm not mechanically knowledgeable) and some food grade lubricant fixed that issue. I've not had it happen since. However, it did change from zero at -4 clicks, to -9 and now to -19 without ever actually disassembling it, fwiw. Anyway, my concern is the build quality more than the shot quality. However, I will note that I get about 1 click to dial in the perfect, for me, shot of espresso. I like a tight 2:1 with darker roasted modern coffees like Onyx Eclipse. So, I was thinking that the J-Max might be a good addition as I might be able to squeeze a setting in with a click on either side when dialing in. However, I travel and thought the X-pro would be interesting too for the size difference. Flavor wise, I like more chocolates with a balanced acidity most of the time. (I like the profile from my modified C2 (half clicks) fine as well). I am not against a bright shot though as I do occasionally pull shots with natural Ethiopians. As an aside, I will note that I grind out, on average, 5 shots a day. I know this makes me a candidate for an electric grinder but I am moving country in about 7 months and the voltage is different so that will have to wait. Besides, I don't mind hand grinding. Also, I almost never drink filter coffee so that isn't really a consideration. Any thoughts, if you get a chance to see this book would be great. Whether, it be one of these 1zpressos or something else. Anyone else feel free to jump in with recommendations if you have them too. It'd be much appreciated. Thank you as always for the wonderful content.
awesome video love the in depth review of these grinders. I am very happy with my ZP6 purchase. I sent them an email when the original video came out and bought the grinder when it came out. It does do a really good job on filter and has a very similar burr to the Baratza's. Thank you for bringing the grinder back.
@@sal6794 use to have a baratza encore before it died on me. The difference in my opinion is the grind consistency. Zp6 is more consistent with grind quality and has less fines. Which results in a less muddy bed on a v60 and slightly better flavour. I do recommend it but I do not think the improvement is that much. The encore is a very good filter grinder and easier to clean and put back together than the zp6. All you would be getting with the zp6 is slightly better grind quality.
for sure! The look of the burr seems similar, but they actually are manufactured quite differently with different tolerances. The burr in the ZP6 is more precise. and, the alignment is much better. All that plus a lower rpm (around 120 with handgrinding) will give a much better particle distribution
@@sal6794 I still have a Baratza Encore but I rarely use it. My “espresso-focused” J-Max is better at almost all filter coffees than my Baratza Encore.
got a bambino and JMax for less than $450 out the door. Incredible value. Shots are amazing. Grinder is incredible with its build quality and micro adjustments. The external adjustment is SO GOOD. Bambino steaming is better than infuser. Cant thank Lance enough for his service to this coffee society. His shared experiences ive found to be very accurate
Was very happy to hear the Kinu taking the below 200 category. I chose it back in time due to the stepless adjustability and it being manufractured in the EU (bulgaria) by a german company.
Didn't feel like I was getting the best dial-in-ability from my Breville Barista Express built in grinder even after playing with the internal burr. Have now ordered a J Max on the basis of this video and looking forward to getting those perfect shots in!
Hello! Did you get a copyright claim on the music you used on this video? We used the same music with same description but got demonetized, even though the music was copyright free :(
ZP6S in my hands. This is an ultra revealing grinder, if you have a very good bean the cup will be very clean and revealing. Like wise if you have a poor quality bean the cup will also reveal the rubbish. In short rubbish in rubbish out. Great honest grinder. My go too now.
That buyer regret due to the complex product line-up is real man. I'd always wanted an 1Zpresso grinder as an update of my C2 Timemore grinder from my student years, and I happily purchased Xpro last week. I made the call after comparing the prices and based on the fact that I only do filter coffee, but now I'm sitting here wondering if I would've been better off getting either the ZP6 for better filter coffee, or K something to future proof for an expresso maker few years down the line. Well it is still a huge improvement from my C2 after all lol. P.S. Love your personality.
Loving the ZP6 so far! Just got it a day ago for filter coffee, but I tested for espresso, just under right as I heard no rub and pulled a 25sec shot, 18g dose, pretty dang good and a little overextracted even. Not great to dial in as you have said, but it does go fine enough
It took me so darn long to figure out how to calibrate my J-Max, it took over a week of playing with it and watching various videos and I nearly gave up but I eventually got it figured out. Your explanation is about as helpful as most of the other ones, which isn't very much, but at the same time, it IS kind of hard to explain, and for me I just kind of had to mess with it until I figured it out. If you are confused as to how to calibrate it, don't feel bad! Just think of the top nut as kind of a limiter, and it's hard to move if you're tightened all the way, so you might need to coarsen, then push up on the burr, and move it a click or two, then fine up the burr to make sure it starts at 0. That probably didn't help either, but again, it's hard to explain, but once you figure it out, it'll make sense, I promise!
Right, here's a question for you, Lance. Forgetting about practicality and price and just focusing purely on flavour, would you get the ZP6 or Fellow Ode with the SSP burrs (your best grinder for filter before diminishing returns). See, I was going to buy another electric grinder after my Wilfa Svart recently broke, but now I'm intrigued by hand grinders. Love your channel, mate, and you're so fun to watch. All the best!
After Kyle's review, I bought a Q2 for my travel set, and I am also shocked at the quality from it. 1zpresso is really killing it with these hand grinders.
Great video! I already picked up a Comandante as my travel hand grinder, one of the reasons (but not the main) being that 1zpresso's lineup was a bit confusing XD
Just an extra titbit. the pronunciation "1z" in Mandarin is the same as the word (意式) in Chinese, which means Italian style and is used as a synonym for espresso.
I have an old JX-Pro. Very good, very solid. Not as ergonomic as their latest, but very sturdy, heavy, all metal, very consistent. I'd buy another 1ZPresso for sure if by some crazy act of God, the JX-Pro got destroyed.
After reading what GOAT had to say on burr spacing vs burr gap in conical burrs, and running tests on my Lido and Kinu, I think a quick and dirty conversion is to divide the burr gap by 3 to get the approximate burr spacing. So for burrs that are 300um apart, that roughly translates into 100um burr spacing. Again - quick and dirty, and better for a starting point rather than directly translating between grinders.
K Plus stroller survivor 💪🏽 Some notes: - Really great that you mention affixed inner burrs as standard premium hand-grinder practice. - There have been some other anecdotal comparisons between grinders with matching burr sets but where the grinder with the affixed burr had less fines and a slightly more even grind consistently. I didn't know the K Pro system had 3 bearings as well! I probably wrote it off since the other two bearings are no longer attached or built into the outer burr carrier OG Zp6. - CONGRATULATIONS! YOU DID IT! The Zp6 is back and now available everywhere as well. I'm so happy almost everyone is going to get access to that amazing brew quality. Now I just wish they introduce the burr into a budget model such as the KS. If this burr set is introduced at that price, bye bye C40! - I totally agree that they need to slim down that line up. I also agree with your suggestion on how 1Zpresso should categorize their lines! Great job mr Lance
Thanks marc.i own original zp6/zpro.snipe 1 before they discontinued.got opportunity to test with ek43 vs zp6 at local coffee shop. Me and 2 other barista prefer taste from zp6 from hot to room temperature.
@@johnlabi6274 That's an amazing performance for the Zp6. I have a grinder with 64mm SSP brew burrs and while that one surely creates cleaner cups, there are many coffees which I prefer on the Zp6 as well. I think many good coffees lack an inherent complexity that the cleanest of flat burrs translate to flatter tasting coffee. I think the Zp6 is currently the best middle ground for the more 'unimodal' profile without requiring a coffee to be inherently very complex or without requiring drippers or recipes that add complexity through extraction gradients (cone drippers).
My roommate and I use a JX for our daily coffee grinding, not only can we dial it in really well to our very different coffees (I drink light roasts and they drink dark roasts) but it's also grinds so smoothly and wish such ease that I don't really see the point of buying an electric grinder.
After watching your previous video on the ZP6 Special and this one, I've immediately ordered it ! Too bad it is not available right now it dark grey, only in aluminium. Can't wait to try and experiment! Also ordered a Stagg EKG :D
Thank you for this in depth review and the shared frustration with the line up. As someone who enjoys espresso and pour over, it caused so much anxiety selecting the right grinder. I ended up getting the Jmax which has been grinding perfect for espresso. Funny thing is when I had ordered the Jmax, they had accidently sent me the Kplus and almost considered keeping that instead of the Jmax but couldn't decide what differences made the difference. I did end up getting the correct one though. I can get very fine grinds for slayer type espresso pulls but I am glad that you went over why I can't get a great pour over with the burrs and fines. Ugh, guess I need to get the ZP6 now:/
that would be an ultimate handgrinder set up though! Either get the K plus to cover both, but with big limitations on clicks and quality on both ends, or one of each focusing on the two ends of the spectrum! You are doing it right ;)
Love my K-Plus. I've used it every day for over a year now and it hasn't let me down. From Cold Brew and French Press to Moka Pot and Aeropress (an even the occasional Espresso on ny Flair Pro), it's been able to take on everything I've thrown at it. I've actually been thinking of getting a Q2 to put inside my Aeropress for travel too. Good stuff.
Thanks Lance I am loving my K-Plus and am so happy I got it🙂👍🏻 I think the one thing to add is that some of the grinders come with cases too. That was a big difference for me between buying a K-Plus and some of the other grinders on the market. It came with a case and all the things I need to clean it. It was amazing value even though it is at the top end for the 1zpresso range.
I ordered the zp6 special. I am using it in combination with my April brewer. Still playing with the settings a little bit. But such a clear and well tasting cup right from the get go. You can’t ga wrong with the zp6 when it comes to filter.
Oh yes! The zp6 rocks. April dripper is a bit difficult, though. It is built to underextract. I would recommend either double grinding your coffee to add some fines or try to flatten the filter to slow up the drawdown!
2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
@@LanceHedrick I have really good experience with April dripper + April recipe if I grind much-much finer than they recommend, like Aeropress - almost moka pot fine. Because of the recipe there is still no clogging and reasonable drawdown and I prefer the higher extraction I can achieve this way. I can still achieve better taste with other methods (even when using the April dripper), but the method's simplicity has its charm.
@@LanceHedrick I did not know that yet. But my experience did tell me something like you are describing. I have been experimenting quite a bit now and start to get the hang of it now I feel like. When doing everything quite right it delivers really great coffee I must say.
@ I feel like I have that same experience. I can really grind way finer then most people recommend the only “drawback” is a bit more bittery after taste but with the zp6 it is not a unpleasant taste. Though when grinding coarser you get more of that really nice light fruity taste with less bittery tones. So I also do understand that wat Lance is recommending is probably going to be the best of both worlds possibly.
Thank you for this video. Very informative! Since K-Ultra came out, I've been looking for a video that does K-plus vs K-ultra, and you did it. I'll stick with K-plus because I like the blind shaker option.
Hey Lance! Tks for the video! I missed out the mention about the Bravo Grinders: Bravo Debut, Bravo Mini and Bravo It: they are great grinders, especially the debut (probaly the better hand grinder eve made!)
i love my jmax, but grinding light roasts for a VST basket can be kind of rough. also the hinged handle is new, mine does not have it and i think the straight bar is more sturdy.
Having used both, I would argue they have same sturdiness. I can switch the handles and have done so for testing. Same torque (at least they feel the same and grind the same)
Amazing video! Suprisingly i did a blind taste of the zp6 and k ultra and we both preffered the k ultra. Any recommendations for dialing in the zp6? Maybe how you pour? Grind? Temprature? Coffee proccesing?
If you enjoy darker roasts, you may simply prefer k plus! Zp6 isn't objectively better. It just gives a more clear and pleasant brew, highlighting florals and juicy aspects the k ultra can't give with lighter roasts.
@@LanceHedrick thanks for the answer!!!!🥳🥳 We actualy brewd light roasts (panama washed and colombia pink bourbon natural). The taste profile qas similar yet the k ultra was more acidic and bright 😬

It was a tough decision between J-Max and K-Max for me since I'm mainly having espresso but also do pour-over occasionally. yeah this makes sense! sounds like you found the perfect one for your set up!
I also have jmax. Could not be happier. It grinds almost as fast as my Niche zero and most of the time makes better espresso.
Glad the ZP6 is still your favorite for filter. Once I made the first v60 with it, I was so impressed. I have never made a pour over that good tasting.

This is so incredible! I got the K-plus about6-7 months ago and have been super happy with both pour over and espresso. I think this method of calibration is so much easier than other ones I have seen, which is awesome as that is one of my only pet peeves remaining with the grinder
Your K Plus can be calibrated as I showed!
In retrospect it was an easy choice
agreed! Massive difference!
I subscribed because of this dudes vocals at 19:49 Also killer video, thank you!
Good work Lance! you're a good man. The word on the street is that you never settle for good enough. I got myself a K-Max. I am happy.
This is exactly the video I was looking for, perfect timing! Thanks for your efforts :)
heck yeah! Glad to line up with ya!
BRUH. this vid is amazing. super thorough. i'm so fkkn impressed here. this needs a million more likes. how does it not??
I was considering purchasing a heptagonal Q2 until I watched this video. Then, X-Pro S happened. Thanks for the valuable info. Pretty satisfied how x pro performs on daily usage
Alright, listen up, folks! Lance here deserves a round of applause 'cause he's absolutely, undeniably, fantastically awesome! 👏🙌
I did not expect this excellent bell and opera performance, wowsers.
A very well put together review and explanation of all the different models. Helped me a ton finding my way through the swamp that is manual coffee grinders.
Thanks Lance, for all you do for the community! I appreciate it :)
About those magnetic catch cups:
They're nice, basically - but they can be dangerous, at least on finer espresso grinds that require a more vigorous hand motion.
You are the King of this type of content!
Totally agree with you. A K.I.S.S. approach is needed. One grinder for espresso, one for filter and a budget version (Q) is enough. And then adding a basic and “pro” (eg magnetic catch cup, silicon base, foldable arm) version of each would suffice… nicely done review.
thank you, Marco!
Did I just watch you ride through Wales without having a mechanical?! Awesome video as always, thanks.
Came for the breakdown, stayed for the singing!! haha Excellent! I love my K-plus
Bro I wasn't expecting such an amazing voice and singing 😂 👏
Was just about to comment on that, top tier performance 👏🏼
These are really bad boys! Too bad nobody in Europe had them in stock couple of months ago when I was purchasing a grinder. I hope they become more and more popular and build community like Comandante.
yeah. There is a reason no one had them stocked and the reason seems to be from germany haha!
I went from Hario slim mini to the X-Pro and it just blew my mind.
Such good value!
Heck yeah! Massive change there. Congrats!
I got a J-Max a few weeks ago. It’s the darker colour and doesn’t have the bendy handle. I’m quite glad, I think I prefer mine!
Great thorough video!
I prefer the normal handle. The bendy handle feels like faff.
have you felt the bendy handle? It doesn't flex. I don't notice an ergonomic difference.
Wasn’t expecting a vocal interlude from one of my favorite Disney movies, but I enjoyed it very much!
Great summary sir. I've had my K-Plus 2 years now. Love it.
thank you! I love my K plus, as well
I'm going to make a t-shirt that say's "I Go deep like Lance"
Very good video 👏👏👏 1Z should just puts this on their homepage. Boom!
hahahaha that is a very suggestive phrase. Maybe we can sell it at Hot Topic haha!
You wanted them to bring the ZP6 back, and they did! Now you're complaining they have too many grinders :D hehe.
That is actually pretty good marketing advice for 1zPresso and a great breakdown for potential customers looking for a hand grinder and having difficulty choosing which is right for them.
hahahaha so true. I did ask for more ;)
and thanks!
“Having the bearings more spread apart increases stability- that’s just speculation”
No it’s not speculation it’s physics. Balance a dowel on top of your hands. The closer your hands are together the less balanced the dowel will feel.
mom was right when she said I was brilliant!
I've got an old 1zpresso Q2 Pentagonal and even with the burrs being less than ideal for filter (at least compared to the heptagonal version), it still makes a pretty solid cup of drip. It actually outperforms my Encore with the Virtuoso burrs installed.
oh yes! I would agree with that. The pentagonal can outperform the encore everyday imo
Great video. I bought the X-pro over the Q2 heptagonal and the Normcore v2 a month ago based on Kyle's video. It has served me well in my rekindled exploration of specialty coffee.
why the normcore?
I have had a Baratza encore for a while, I was thinking of getting the zp6. Do you think this is worth it in your opinion?
The bells of Notre Dame won my subscription 😂👏
Hahaha thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Was very happy to hear the Kinu taking the below 200 category. I chose it back in time due to the stepless adjustability and it being manufractured in the EU (bulgaria) by a german company.
kinu took the best of all category. Jmax is best under 200. Kinu is more expensive haha! But best.
@@LanceHedrick For the pour over as well? Maybe with the PO burrs??
BTW I've just ordered the ZP6 adding to po Kinu and h Q2... my god. Thanks for the outstanding video!
In love with Lances music breaks! You should do some compilation :) Have a great day
haha thank you!
Ok so no one is going to acknowledge one of the best performances of all time?! Wow what a voice! 😮😮😮😮😮😮
Agreed. Stellar!
hahah thank you!
So excited about to get my zp6, crossing my fingers that it arrives before Christmas 🤞
hope so! Brew a beautiful cup on christmas morning. Yum
Didn't feel like I was getting the best dial-in-ability from my Breville Barista Express built in grinder even after playing with the internal burr. Have now ordered a J Max on the basis of this video and looking forward to getting those perfect shots in!
Dude that Notre Dame bit 😂 loved it!
Gave the like following the wonderful vocals! Fantastic vibrato, and the review was thorough as well, thanks!
Hello! Did you get a copyright claim on the music you used on this video? We used the same music with same description but got demonetized, even though the music was copyright free :(
19:47 Beautiful voice! Love that full commit
I got the J Max and love it for espresso. Really easy to use too.
ZP6S in my hands. This is an ultra revealing grinder, if you have a very good bean the cup will be very clean and revealing. Like wise if you have a poor quality bean the cup will also reveal the rubbish. In short rubbish in rubbish out. Great honest grinder. My go too now.
This video was necessary, I’d like the same video with the KINGrinder! Would you know if the X Pro fits in a aeropress or is it just the Q2?
Really enjoyed nerding out to this video :)
I see at almost end of Video, the grind size of both K-Plus and K-Ultra are amazing.
Loving the ZP6 so far! Just got it a day ago for filter coffee, but I tested for espresso, just under right as I heard no rub and pulled a 25sec shot, 18g dose, pretty dang good and a little overextracted even. Not great to dial in as you have said, but it does go fine enough
I just got my grinder today. Love the outer ring adjustment compared to the inner ring which was annoying to keep track of what setting you were on.
Damn bro you got pipes The high note was dope
It's actually pretty easy to align it. I clean it every week and I disassemble it and realign it all the time fam.
@@crashandrise yeah, once you figure it out it's pretty easy, it's figuring it out that's the hard part lol
Love the gaggia in the back, Lance!
I wanted to pick up a hand grinder but didn't know which one of these, Ty for the video it really helps out!
heck yeah! Hope you enjoyed it
wowza - that was one very deep rabbit hole right there! Now I need a lie down....
1zpresso is really killing it with these hand grinders.
oh very nice! And yes- they are!
Great video! I already picked up a Comandante as my travel hand grinder, one of the reasons (but not the main) being that 1zpresso's lineup was a bit confusing XD
yeah that makes sense! Sadly, comandante is a bit pricey imo without the features some of these offer. But it is a solid grinder, for sure!
Just bought the J-MAX thanks to your video!
K Plus stroller survivor 💪🏽
Some notes:
- Really great that you mention affixed inner burrs as standard premium hand-grinder practice.
I think the Zp6 is currently the best middle ground for the more 'unimodal' profile without requiring a coffee to be inherently very complex or without requiring drippers or recipes that add complexity through extraction gradients (cone drippers).
agreed 100%. and thanks to you for bringing this grinder to my attention!
My roommate and I use a JX for our daily coffee grinding, not only can we dial it in really well to our very different coffees (I drink light roasts and they drink dark roasts) but it's also grinds so smoothly and wish such ease that I don't really see the point of buying an electric grinder.
Great grinder reviews!!
This was a killer video explaining this. Thanks for everything!
After watching your previous video on the ZP6 Special and this one, I've immediately ordered it ! Too bad it is not available right now it dark grey, only in aluminium. Can't wait to try and experiment! Also ordered a Stagg EKG :D
hands down of of the best reiews I've seen in a while on hand grinders, better than Hoffman's actually
19:40 I mainly came here for the K ultra vs plus comparison, so I kinda skipped to that part and wasn't expecting this epic performance 🤣
You are doing it right ;)
The OE LIDO, makes some tasty coffee.
Great video.
You rock MR. Lance.
Thank you! And I have the Lido in my ultimate grinder video. What an absolute TANK! Built so incredibly well.
Damn that’s a lot of work. Appreciate it man
thanks for watching! It vindicates the work put in
I have zero interest in buying a hand grinder, yet I watched this from start to finish.
Either I am pathetic, or you're great.
Good stuff.
Lovely! And I love the Q2 size. So compact and great quality.
What setting do you use for v60 and French press?
Thanks Lance I am loving my K-Plus and am so happy I got it🙂👍🏻 I think the one thing to add is that some of the grinders come with cases too. That was a big difference for me between buying a K-Plus and some of the other grinders on the market. It came with a case and all the things I need to clean it. It was amazing value even though it is at the top end for the 1zpresso range.
oh interesting! I never use the cases, so I didn't think to include that bit of info! haha
@@LanceHedrick whahaha I just tried dubble grinding. Call that a game changer. Crazy what a difference
Thank you for this video. Very informative! Since K-Ultra came out, I've been looking for a video that does K-plus vs K-ultra, and you did it. I'll stick with K-plus because I like the blind shaker option.
Yeah. There really isnt enough of a difference to warrant the price difference, imo
Hey Lance! Tks for the video! I missed out the mention about the Bravo Grinders: Bravo Debut, Bravo Mini and Bravo It: they are great grinders, especially the debut (probaly the better hand grinder eve made!)
I believe I am getting one soon, finally!
you hit the high note, I hit the like button lol
i love my jmax, but grinding light roasts for a VST basket can be kind of rough. also the hinged handle is new, mine does not have it and i think the straight bar is more sturdy.
Having used both, I would argue they have same sturdiness. I can switch the handles and have done so for testing. Same torque (at least they feel the same and grind the same)
@@LanceHedrick you think its worth getting a separate grinder for filter/percolation coffee if i already have a jmax? too many fines?
You really do a fantastic job on your videos. Kudos
Thanks. Just discovered you. Great detail. Thanks for taking by time to go through these. About to buy my first grinder. OMG
Lance I need your help! What is the best hand grinder for an Aeropress? Nobody has done a video to cover this!
yesterday I was searching for a video doing that and wasn't satisfy with what I was able to found. thank you for that
awesome! Hope you enjoyed it!
@@LanceHedrick I really did and now, i know that the one i need is zp6
Amazing video!
Suprisingly i did a blind taste of the zp6 and k ultra and we both preffered the k ultra. Any recommendations for dialing in the zp6? Maybe how you pour? Grind? Temprature? Coffee proccesing?
If you enjoy darker roasts, you may simply prefer k plus! Zp6 isn't objectively better. It just gives a more clear and pleasant brew, highlighting florals and juicy aspects the k ultra can't give with lighter roasts.
@@LanceHedrick thanks for the answer!!!!🥳🥳
We actualy brewd light roasts (panama washed and colombia pink bourbon natural). The taste profile qas similar yet the k ultra was more acidic and bright 😬
