      With all of that black smoke, when they said “Chevy engine swap” I thought they meant Duramax. Seriously needs a wide band sensor and some tuning.

    I would argue the smallblock Chevy is one of the greatest engines ever made in history and I am not a Chevy fan at all, I just give credit when I think it's due.

    it was a 1984 928s model ,its a 383 blow through carb motor.
    a 7 litre LS fuel injected motor would be a much smoother
    set up .
    if i was doing it again i would go down that road.

    thats a inteligent reply .the original motor was tunned to 450 bhp ,when it died i just went with the chevy convertion with a starting point of 450 bhp,it was a 25 plus year old 928 at the end of the day not a price less 911 rs i was converting .a car of that age with a stock motor only had a value of about 3/4 k . dont understand why people are so defensive of a engine swap.

    The comments about "POS" LS motors/Chevy are pretty funny. Ever heard of a reliable, modern (well in the last 25 or 30 years) Porsche that could go 125+K miles w/o having a catastrophic meltdown of some sort? Not hardly. For the cost of a standard 5L Porsche reman, you can get an aluminum LS motor, build it with a cam matched to the car and your intention/driving style, FAST intake, and a good exhaust (not this 5" diesel truck exhaust, which is the main reason you hear the popping noise) and have change. Not to mention much more power

    • @Onman100
      @Onman100 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A Porsche is a Porsche and when you cant afford a Porsche you shouldnt buy it. The Porsche transaxle models are more reliable then most sports cars and a chevy engine is no sport engine.

    • @olikat8
      @olikat8 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, those SC'd LS motors are very pedestrian. I'm saying for all the money and attitude about perceived engineering and quality excellence, durability/reliability should be included in the equation. Germany seems to have forgotten that many years ago.

    • @Onman100
      @Onman100 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      olikat8 The Porsche 928 is very reliable very often you see 928s with way more then 300.000km. You shouldnt forget that the Porsche 928 was a supercar and supercars need there maintenance, which often cost a lot. But when a Porsche 928 gets his maintenance he wont make you any problems.

    • @nomad1187
      @nomad1187 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Onman 100, what qualifies as a sport engine? I mean early race cars used airplane engines, and more recently truck engines were a sorce for more power.

    i tunned the original motor to 400bhp.
    i went for chevy because it was cheap power ,my first motor was 500bhp.
    i stuck with carberetors but i wish i had gon fuel injection because it was hard to start idle was not good
    and it stalled alot.
    if i had my time around again i would fit a corvrt LS 7 motor with the fuel injection 500bhp and 500ft lbs
    of torque.
    hind sight is a wonder full thing.

    The engine was NOT made by MB for Porsche rather, some wanted an Audi derived V10 based loosely on the Audi Five cylinder but Porsche execs wanted a purely Porsche engine. The automatic transmission however WAS designed by MB. Do your research first before spouted out myths & rumours.

  • @SutAdrian
    @SutAdrian  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    i no the 32 valve 5 litre motor can be supercharged to 500 plus bhp on stock internals ,my motor was only a 2 valve 4.7 with mechanical fuel injection so 450 was a achivment 928 motorsports has great experiance with this early set up i spoke to carl there many times with the development of my early porsche set up.
    chevy was juust cheap power with hind site a 7 litre ls motor would have been a good starting point.

    Hey I like it and ciber show sum support man I'm bout to buy 1 my self I'm leave it as is but later down the line I would like to invest in a swap like that as well.... has anyone notice that Chevy is a well know swapped engine even in high dollar cars like Porsche BMW Benz ect....... i rather pay for mantinence for a Chevy setup then any other engine transplant period.....so if and only if he ever sales the car he can put the original set up back in there like it never happend

    Very nice, having owned a 928 I know what a shit box the original engine is, yeah it ran fine but it was low on power and was awkward to work on and parts were too expensive . This is a nice swap had I kept mine I was planning an Ls3 swap, kudos to you.

  • @SutAdrian
    @SutAdrian  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    like i said not every bodys cup of tea ,if i was doing it again i would use a modern ls chevy engine on fuel injection.
    the car is a 1983 ,i got 450 bhp from the original porsche engine supercharging.
    that was the max for the 4.7 bosche kjet injection.
    so i went for the chevy because it was cheap power,with a stand alone fuel injection system that would have been a much more fuel efficent smoother runing car but the chance came to sell it before i spent more on it.
    it was 600 plus hp .

    That "masterpiece of engineering" is actually a Mercedes designed engine, made for Porsche. The reason it didn't live on in another vehicle was because it was, well... not that great, honestly. To replace parts on the porsche V8 cost an arm and a leg. LS? Not expensive at all. The aluminum ls engine weighs less than the P V8, as well. Now, on a 911? Oh heck no, I couldn't replace that boxer 6. No way. But in this case, I think it's a great, logical fit :) To each his own, I guess :)

  • @thagreen72

  • @AndieBlack13
    @AndieBlack13 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    When the 928 was made, Porsche either couldn't or wouldn't make a truly powerful engine to match....high technology not withstanding, they wouldn't make a large displacement engine, stuck at a little over Five liters....they just couldn't break thru to major league power. The LS series from GM is a perfect match, upgrading power onto the "major leagues". The original Porsche engines are little more than curious antiques now.....not worth the effort and expense.

    It's amazing how so many people commenting here think a Porsche engine is such a great piece of engineering when a cheap little gm engine makes more power for a ton less money and gets better fuel economy doing it. Complex and expensive do not equal better unless the power and economy are there. The KISS method wins every time.

    the headlights are strosek ,i would have prefered the original with hind sight for better lighting.
    deleting the pop up lights made room for the low mounted supercharger as well.

  • @SutAdrian
    @SutAdrian  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @omfgwtfbbq90 i did the convertion 7 years ago the pound dollar was strong so i took advantage of it .
    i put a 450bhp small block in there, the engine in the vidio is 660bhp.
    at the time it would have been very expensive to get this power from a porsche engine.
    the black smoke is the carberetor jetted rich ,if i had not of sold the car i would have invested in a stand alone fuel injection system that would have made it a much user friendly animal.

    i did not take pride in any of it just wanted a big power v8 in that shape car.
    i must admit its running rich and like a pig in that clip but i wanted to get across to the guys who were buying it, it was not a good idea to drive it to sweeden.

    @SutAdrian 660 dyno proven 383 small block running 15psi of boost.
    yes it was running over rich due to wanting to up the boost to 20psi.
    stand alone fuel injection was the next move to make it run smoother.
    i had the original 4.7 with a supercharger running 450bhp maxed out.
    the first none boosted small block chevy engine made 450 bhp.
    chevy was cheap power .

    if it had have been a low mileage totaly orginal example then yes it would be worth good money to a entusiast ,it was not.
    the free adds and ebay are full of old 928s for not alot of money most are worn out cars ready for the salvage yard.
