As a 928 owner, I love the original and I love this updated interpretation. It's a testament to the original design that the Nardone looks so futuristic while preserving the underlying shape
Being that the 928 is a GT car, I love, love the fact that Thierry Nardone did not dumb down the audio system! How amazing would it be to tour across Europe listening to Mozart and Beethoven in their full glory, windows rolled down, cool wind in your hair! Yes, you don't have to spend $400,000 to get the same result but this restomod is a quirky, oddly beautiful work of art, like the original 928. Also, for the record, I used to think Ryan Gosling was the sexiest man alive but wow, Thierry Nardone's accent, intelligence, and extraordinarily handsome good looks takes the cake. I'm weak...
THE most underrated aspect of all of these restomods. Actually calibrating a proper audio system to deliver well-balanced audio is incredibly difficult. Which is why not many people bother LOL.
@@spdcrzy I can imagine how true this is. Exacting measurements are required and sound deadening materials must be exactingly placed throughout the cabin and even under the floor. Everyone says that they make greatest sound system in cars but no one does. Not that the speakers are bad, it’s just that the interior doesn’t seem to cope with it very well. Leather seems exceptionally good at absorbing the extra sound waves.
This car was like a spaceship from another star system when it arrived in late 1977. It, Star Wars, and I Feel Love by Donna Summer projected a slick and beautiful image of the coming future that we would grow into in the 1980s and 1990s. Lowered with larger wheels and wider tires, upgraded brakes and better shocks and sway bars. Surprisingly the torque tube, trans and diff handled the power very well.

Finally, someone giving the 928 the proper engineering it needed. I've always been a fan of the platform that made up the 928 but it needed someone in the design team to make it a great car. They were on the right track with the 928S4, a very close friend of my father, Marvin received one as a Christmas gift from his wife and he had bought her a race horse. You could say they had a little bit of money. The S4 was a great car but, then production ended before Porsche would take that to the next level which is what we have here in this restomod. They did what should have been done from the factory or maybe RUF or Singer. But, too many Porsche Club purists and just enthusiasts never liked the 928 so there was no aftermarket need or desire to modify the 928. There just wasn't anyone who wanted to do it properly and spend the money and time. That is proven by this build. Everything had to be made from homemade design because there are no aftermarket upgrade parts for 928 cars. I like what the car looks like and am only disappointed that it wasn't driven.
Only thing I don't love is all the panel joins being so visible but that might just be a stylistic taste thing (or a 928 thing).. But my lord that interior is perfect
I own an 86.5 928S which I love. Nardone nailed it with the adjustment of the shortened front and extended rear. I always thought the original looked a little out of balance despite knowing it has near perfect front back weight ratio. This restomod is absolutely fantastic. I wish Porsche would bring back the 928 with something very similar to this.
singer is getting over a million. The guy at icon also has a line out the door for million dollar vehicles. This is the fastest growth of income for the one percent and above ever.
It’s a nice car but.. cannot see how the piece can be achieved. Are we just in a bubble of restomods, guys who are hitting 50 and have too much disposable income. Maybe….
The 928 was always my favorite Porsche and this is a dream come true! What piece of art this is! Absolutely loving it. A pitty that I spear the change for it 😆
WOW this car is actually a true restomod none of that unnecessary screens and it emulates the originality of what is used to be! How much does it cos- oh great another car for the rich, what joy. Movin on.
Bravo to Thierry and all that worked on this. So refreshing to see a non 911 reimagined, and a GT car that one can really drive everyday at that vs a weekend toy only.
It's nice. Nothing wrong with the restomod stuff. But an original 928 GTS is still way nicer looking. The rear lights and the iconic red Porsche rear reflector are perfect on the original GTS. The design on that is so modern that it could come out of production line today (save the pop-up headlights). So why try to improve perfection?
The original sure is a masterpiece! However since it is no longer available I love the this is being done. So tired of all millions of versions of the 911. Would love a really serious restomod on the 951 aka 944 Turbo. That is a very sweet car that porsche held back so not to beat the 911.
@@pederfallbom Yeah I have nothing against the restomod itself. I just don't like those new rear lights. They kill the character of the original. The way Singer did the 930 and Gunther Werks did the 993 Turbo are more true to the originals. The best part of the original GTS is the fat rear and dominant red color (from the HUGE, wide taillights and that reflector). Mercedes even copied that rear to its AMG GT. Why change that so radically?
love a 928 restomod but I cant say this one looks good....that front bumper, the side... I like the rear but overall...yeah I think they messed up the design/look.
You made my day with this absolutely stunning 928 I have always loved these cars. That interior design is perfection. Great to see another restomod that is not a 911.👍☘️
What a car and one of my favourites! Yes, I am a Porsche fanatic but have always had a soft spot for the 928! What a great evolution….and yes, that engine sounds so nice!
My dream was and still is to do a restomod of a porsch 942, in my eyes one of the most underrated porsches. This car does a lot of the things I would´ve like to do too, a simple futuristic style(Kind of 80s ish)... . The only things i would change are the car model, the engine (an ev-swap) and a not to extreme bodykit,
Drool. My friend had one, so I am very familiar with this car. I agree that the front was too long and the rear too short - he nailed the proportions. This one looks lower, wider and more aggressive but retains that clean look, Porsche mastered in the 928. I think the light cluster, especially the parking lights are bit busy where many parts of the car are cleaned up, but the proportions and wheels look fabulous to me. The interior is rather spartan, I get that it's intentionally so, but isn't distasteful, by any stretch. Love the new glass all throughout and he did a fantastic job cleaning the lines up. It still looks like a 928, and if you weren't familiar with the original, you'd be hard pressed to tell what was changed - that's how subtle it is. The price is steep - would like to know what parts were replaced. Sounds like a lot of work, though. Would I trade this for a Singer if I had the beans to purchase one? Not sure about that!
Looks beutiful! It's a new car at this point. There are two issues I have with it - lack of ignition on the left side of the steering column and 4 LEDs on the popup ring. Actual ring would give it so much more character.
Amazing concept and such a clean Interior! So refreshing with something else than a 911 Restomod. However vid lacked some figures, such as BHP, number of gears etc. Eagerly awaiting...
All the consulting, all the one-off pieces (over 3000) and the interaction with 3rd-party vendors - not to mention the NRE and in-house labor, is amazing. Whether anyone likes the car or not, I could not imagine producing this for what they are charging.
As a little kid, I used to see a 928 in my neighborhood. It was my favorite "super car" for a while, heh. I still like how it looked, tbh. Wish Porsche would have done more with it instead of how everything they have basically looks the same now.

That's beautiful. Those lights need to work without popping. The technology exists.
But it wouldn’t be dramatic enough
Only thing I don't love is all the panel joins being so visible but that might just be a stylistic taste thing (or a 928 thing).. But my lord that interior is perfect
I own an 86.5 928S which I love. Nardone nailed it with the adjustment of the shortened front and extended rear. I always thought the original looked a little out of balance despite knowing it has near perfect front back weight ratio. This restomod is absolutely fantastic. I wish Porsche would bring back the 928 with something very similar to this.
400! For a 928 restomod. Good luck, buddy. I will be praying for you.
I reckon they'll sell as quick as they can make them, £400k though?
singer is getting over a million. The guy at icon also has a line out the door for million dollar vehicles. This is the fastest growth of income for the one percent and above ever.
There isn’t a single restored that makes financial sense, but that’s not the point.
It’s a nice car but.. cannot see how the piece can be achieved. Are we just in a bubble of restomods, guys who are hitting 50 and have too much disposable income. Maybe….
Four eighty is closer to half a million that it is not.
The 928 was always my favorite Porsche and this is a dream come true! What piece of art this is! Absolutely loving it. A pitty that I spear the change for it 😆
So wait? Nardone Automotive pulled a Singer with the 928? Cool... very cool.
No. Singer have taste. This is awful
@@harryspeakup8452 youre crazy, this is amazing
@@harryspeakup8452 Tasteless fanboy.
@@harryspeakup8452I’m sure you’ve built better cars. Please stop embarrassing yourself
Jason Barlow presenting a Top Gear video?!?!?!
It's like I've travel back to the year 2000!!!
WOW this car is actually a true restomod none of that unnecessary screens and it emulates the originality of what is used to be! How much does it cos- oh great another car for the rich, what joy. Movin on.
That looks brilliant! Nice to see someone do any other Porsche than a 911 too.
There needs to be a Blondie CD in the stereo
I definitely listen to Blondie when I am driving mine.
Bravo to Thierry and all that worked on this. So refreshing to see a non 911 reimagined, and a GT car that one can really drive everyday at that vs a weekend toy only.
I’ve always loved the 928. I like the idea of a restomod 928, but I’m not a fan of this interpretation. It’s like a cheesy concept car from the 70’s.
I agree... it looks like a 3D printing exercise... that said, theoriginal is pretty perfect as is so the tasdk was tough to begin with.
That's one of the most beautifully done retro interior restoration have seen
928 was my childhood sportscar - i digged futuristic design. This restomod is incredible and respectable
1:18 It would look much better from the rear, if the rear lights were continuous rather than consisting of three parts.
"The chicken was still warm my dad alive"
That back end stance is gorgeous!
love a 928 restomod but I cant say this one looks good....that front bumper, the side... I like the rear but overall...yeah I think they messed up the design/look.
Gorgeous! Love the interior and the integrated audio system. LOVE the color and the wheels! The fenders really make the shape.
Wow, a really cool modded 928 for only a half million dollars?!?
You made my day with this absolutely stunning 928 I have always loved these cars. That interior design is perfection. Great to see another restomod that is not a 911.👍☘️
The original car is much more beautiful.
Never thought of a 928 concept. Love it!
That interior is absolutely beautiful. Such analog feel with a soul. New bugatti also applied the same philoshophy.
Great video guys, nice to see Jason's take on a superb car. I do wish Porsche would bring back the 928 and the 944.
Absolutely stunning remodel. Beautiful beyond words.
1:25 Has been my favorite Porsche of all time since I saw that movie in the 80's. "You the U-Boat Commander?"
What a car and one of my favourites! Yes, I am a Porsche fanatic but have always had a soft spot for the 928! What a great evolution….and yes, that engine sounds so nice!
Completely in love with the interior. Incredible.
I don't what restomod means, but oh my God, just by seeing the thumbnail I get sooo enthusiastic. They need to make this
My dream was and still is to do a restomod of a porsch 942, in my eyes one of the most underrated porsches. This car does a lot of the things I would´ve like to do too, a simple futuristic style(Kind of 80s ish)... . The only things i would change are the car model, the engine (an ev-swap) and a not to extreme bodykit,
Well done, took a ride in 2 ones before i got driving license, one of my dreamcars...:)
I love the original 928. This is on a whole different level! It's gorgeous!
Very impressive. By the sounds of it they've absolutely nailed the formulae - as to what to add, leave alone or take out.
Very nice piece of art. But once i saw those shoes...couldnt unsee them anymore...
For me the continuation of the 928 is essentially the Panamera.
That said, this one is beautifully designed and executed.
That’s really nice ! My parents had a 928 S4 in a similar colour to that , the interior was navy but piped in red too.
I've always had a spot in my heart for the 928. This is heaven!
That was my dream car back in the 80's and it still is now .... simply beautiful !
I have always wanted a 928. Thanks for ruining that for me. What an amazing resto mod.
Stunning! and that Sound! just wow!
Not my favorite Porsche model but this restomod is AMAZING! The wheels make it feel very modern.
Absolutely spectacular leaves me speechless
As a 80's baby this was the Porsche i first remember vividly. Man this is a great restomod. I would love to own one
This is the kind of Retro-Futurism that I love and want!
This is so stunningly beautiful. Just perfect in every way.
It’s gorgeous. I absolutely love it. Great design work and vision!
Amazing concept and such a clean Interior! So refreshing with something else than a 911 Restomod. However vid lacked some figures, such as BHP, number of gears etc. Eagerly awaiting...
Fantastic ! Can’t wait to see it in other colours too so we can see more of the lines.
All the consulting, all the one-off pieces (over 3000) and the interaction with 3rd-party vendors - not to mention the NRE and in-house labor, is amazing. Whether anyone likes the car or not, I could not imagine producing this for what they are charging.
I really like that shade of blue, hits the car perfect!
As a little kid, I used to see a 928 in my neighborhood. It was my favorite "super car" for a while, heh.
I still like how it looked, tbh. Wish Porsche would have done more with it instead of how everything they have basically looks the same now.
