- Customer came by today with 1 of his 2 Chevy V8 powered Porsche's... LARRY SAYS
The motor is built around a ls7 block with forged callies crank and rods, mahle pistons, mast heads, cam, etc. it also has the mast motorsports ECU. the enging is considerably lighter than the 930 turbo engine that it replaced. the cars weighs in at almost 2300 pounds and the engine dynoed at 705 crank horsepower. bigger brakes, adjustable swaybars etc help to handle the increased horsepower and the much lighter weight of the car. aluminum hood, lexan, no a/c, radio, insulation, ruf spoilers etc
I own an air cooled Porsche and this conversion is not as crazy and rare as people here think it is. Lots of people do it and it's quite easy. A company makes the conversion kit for the 911. Porsche engines are way over engineered. Anyone who ones a Porsche will admit that. Also, depending on the vintage 911, there is only so much horsepower you can get out of the engine. I'm not even going to get into the oil leaking issues as any owner is familiar with those issues. I am a car person and I appreciate ingenuity. I'm not a snob purists that just hates thing to be hateful... But any car guy, or Porsche guy that can't appreciate this is really nuts. There is even a section on the Porsche forums for this conversion. It is work like this that just makes you have that mad scientist laugh. When he started this car, anyone that didn't smile isn't a car person. We are talking about cars, not a Porsche museum piece. And besides the engine, the body is clean as a whistle. Nice car.
best comment on here. Unlike douche bags that say LS1 trash.
The cam and exhaust are a bit much for my tastes but I applaud the effort.
JW S You talk about "complete ignorance" after calling that car a "little 4 cylinder ride?" You obviously haven't the first CLUE what you're typing about! Oh, and it's "break", in this instance, not "brake", Shakespeare.
Sounded like a Harley, I chuckled.
Agreed, and putting big American V-8 power in a sweet Euro body is Nothing New. AC Cobra & many more did this . How much is the oversteering now, with 3-500 more lbs of engine out back, behind the rear axle ?
This could beat the turbo porche in any drag race, could it win in a high speed road course ?
Nice job, if he removed the window scoops it'd be totally a " sleeper car"
@@aaronhumphrey2009 the description says that the ls is considerably lighter than the old engine..
That’s just Fkn bad ass!!!
I’m a Ford guy and I approve that LS7 Swap. 🤪
I'm not wild about the old paradigm of "Stick a Chevy engine in it," but this time is the exception. Porsche looks, weight loss, availability and thrift of parts - I see no downside here.
Except for the fanboys who whine and moan about somebody besmirching one of their beloved Porsches. Get a grip, people. It's a car. It's just a car.
+rickcperry this car is pure awesome. do you know who made the swap kit?
+elhigh
As long as the original engine is "pickled" and available....who the fuck cares what drives the car down the road?
+Ecosse57 a company called renegade hybrids if im not mistaken.....
BigDRE PutInWork
thanks. are you familiar with this car? i've heard of renegade and i think they are one of the very few who offer parts to do the swap.
i was right there with you until "its just a car"
I think this thing is sick, but you cant reason with peoples passions.
I freaking love it. I don't know much about Porsche other than the fact that I want to own an old 1980's model and ls swap it. I was worried that the weight distribution may be thrown off but seeing that the ls7 platform is lighter than the original makes me happy. This is amazing!!!
The Flat 6 that was in there weighed 450 lbs + the turbo and plumbing. That LSX weighs about 415 lbs + a radiator and 2.5 gallons of coolant. The center of gravity is higher, but it's not heavier. Still, the idea of closing that throttle in mid corner scares the crap out of me.
Wow. Just looking at it ,I thought that the LS wieghed much more..
It's going to take an experienced and cautious right foot to avoid " snap oversteering" when cornering this mighty beast at speed.
Try closing throttle on a corner in a 74 930.bye bye.
@@aaronhumphrey2009 its misleading because people call engines "big" and "small" depending on displacement, but engine design is more important. LS engines are pushrod making them very compact for their displacement. They're great on fuel compared to other performance engines too (when cruising with a tall top gear at least)
I would LOVE to see a video of this guy bringing his car into the Porsche dealership and tell the service writer that boxer motor hasn't felt "right" lately.
Me too
Awesome!! Screw all the purists and haters..... looks well done. need to see and hear it RUN and a good review of handling would be killer... now i know what to do with the 911sc in my dads driveway
..there is no substitute...
I can tell you how it handles. Like a fucking beast. A 911 is hard enough to drive with any of the original engines. A 911 is not a car for a novice driver let alone one with a 427 LS motor. I would love to give it it go though! The work on this car whether you agree with what's been done or not is extremely high caliber.
maybe the only way to make a porsche reliable.
Apart from the engine now that is
Nice job! I went old school with my 928. 434SBC with fuel injection. 675HP plus another 200HP shot of N2O. Car is now insane.
Think is stay off the bottle.
We need to see this in action. Like an in-cab or a drive by please!!!
This thing sounds a million times better than original. Nice lopey idle.
Honestly, theres probably nothing cooler than opening up that hood and seeing an LS7!!!
I am sorta against molesting original cars, but this 911 is badass. LS7 is one of the best engines in the world, reliability + practicality + POWER!
"turbo" badge on the back should be replaced by another badge with same color and script font "buh-bye"
I still enjoy this video. Boomhauer the Porsche fanatic, and that lumpy idle, cool.
Wow what a fantastic job on that porsche, thanks for sharing this video
First 911 I’ve ever seen I like.
Lol love when the haters hate on a cool lookin car 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Porsche always was cool looking. But now its useless.
How can some one hate on this it looks epic!
to me its more shocking that the old man has a computer than it is doing a LS swap on a 911.
How did he order the engine dumbass.
Nah im kidding, true post though.
The only way to make the Volkswagen go faster :)
Uneducated twat.
Crushingnuts Tomakepeanutbutter Porsche is owned by the VW Automotive Group so technically he ain’t wrong for calling it a Volks
@@SilverLightningXV well no Porsche AG is the major share holder of VW so Porsche AG owns VW which owns Porsche
Ls engine's need import and Europen chassis to go faster.
The power to weight ratio, would be insane. 👍
505 HP/475 ft/lbs torque and power everywhere in every gear...and lighter than the stock air cooled 6...Nuff Said!
That's an amazing engine swap, I wonder what it's like to drive ?
I will answer that it sucks to drive it a bmw isetta drives better
Junk
240 my ass that junk would be in a ditch on its roof
it has an idiot for a owner
***** ***** Altimgamr altimgamr ***** I see that you are still the supreme troll of TH-cam and still know nothing about cars.
savage car.. great engineering from this gentleman. its a bit tail happy id say too in the wet !!
looks like one helluva nice job, but how do you think it stacks up to the original porsche drive line?
wow man you are genius nice work i like it and i wish you the best
If that thing had an RWB bodykit slapped onto it OH MY GOD it would be perfect.
I wouldn't do this to an air-cooled car, but a water cooled I damn sure would. The Lsx engine weighs the same as the 3.4's in the 996 and to compare those two engines, it's near a no brainer. For the air cooled cars though...I say build what's in it.
it's the cam if you know anything about engines... it actually sounds pretty damn sexy
Hey, I dare you to drive it around a corner...
It'd be better than stock, since this engine is lighter than the original.
Really? I'll have to look for a road or track test video.
Perv Ert Lighter and lower center of gravity.
Still seems odd to me, given that the porsche has a flat 6 how could the center of gravity be lower?
Perv Ert Because rather than being at the sides, the valvetrain is down low.
Someone has a lot of money! Nice!
THAT is really awesome!
I appreciated my stock Porsche V8 until I had dumped tons of money into it and capped out at 375HP NA. SC kit would net 500HP tops. Stroker would be $15K plus. I am now 675HP NA which no 928 engine can hit NA, even stroked out to 6L. Plus if I grenade the engine racing, I can buy another for 1/3 of what the Porsche engine would cost. With my N20 hit I am just over 900HP. Oh and my SBC weighs in 65 pounds lighter before removing the smog and A/C bits.
LSX's are not as heavy as people think. Did this increase the overall weight of the car?
Also the way the engine has beeen mounted has actually improved the weight distribution so it probably handles better
Oh my...words cannot describe how awesome that is!
Where in South Carolina does this guy live I would love to see this thing when I'm on vacation their on the summer heck I might even see it here in North Carolina
The sound...DAMN!!!!
It sounds like the 4th of July!
the motor is built around a ls7 block with forged callies crank and rods, mahle pistons, mast heads, cam, etc. it also has the mast motorsports ECU. the enging is considerably lighter than the 930 turbo engine that it replaced. the cars weighs in at almost 2300 pounds and the engine dynoed at 705 crank horsepower. bigger brakes, adjustable swaybars etc help to handle the increased horsepower and the much lighter weight of the car. aluminum hood, lexan, no a/c, radio, insulation, ruf spoilers etc
fuck all you haters. that's the most badass 911 i've ever seen. that ls7 is probably lighter than the stock engine and a hell of a lot more powerful than even the newest top of the line models. that sound is also incredible.
I'm in SC as well, how can I get in touch with this guy so possibly I can get this done to my car? Please help me out.
All I know is his name is Larry Ingram... Last name spelling may be off. He was a customer that came by the shop I worked at 6 years ago.
This is like a Harley-Davidson with a Honda engine :-(
How fast? Because my uncle own a 360 spyder since new in 1999 and its never had any issues, and it has 40k miles on it... we're talking almost 12 years of normal use and some racing here and there without one issue, and he's now looking to trade it in for a 458
Best Porsche ever!!!
Damn that sound hick accent... Also the one down side is every idle and WOT sounds just like a 90s camaro
I'm drooling...
this is how you destroy a genius made porsche 6 flat engine with a stupid V8 chevy engine. this realy don't make sense at all. What for engine is it ? 7l or 20l ls engine with 400hp so big engines and still need to make 300 or 400 horsepower more.
+rene grondzi LS weighs A LOT less than the original motor. At the end of the day this thing RUNS, probably faster than anything stock we've got out right now.
Renny Lewis That car is not made to go fast but to enjoy and to hear that flat6 tone. In america it's all about speed but nobody cares about comfort and luxury. that is the reason why USA never gonne make proper and safe cars.
+rene grondzi if youve ever driven a stock porsche from this era they are neither luxurious nor comfortable to drive lol and if youre looking for safety driving a 2door street buggie is not the safest. You want safety, buy an suv. The problem is people assume that everyone wants plush leather seats and to drive slow so the world can admire them. The purpose of buying these amazing machines is for what they do and if your not going to use them the way they were built, which was for a thrill ride then you might as well make them automatic and just drive around saying you have money so you bought one.
Renny Lewis Bro. In Europe countrys u don't see that much Suv's driving around. All sedan, coupe's or station wagon and 90 procent in Europe Country's drives Manual. That is the Standard.
I did not say that this car is luxury and comfort or safe. I said that america can't built these type of cars. They only built A 100liter engine lol with 500hp and the rest they built plastic and cardboard it looks good. but not safe or good to handel the car in turns only on straight tracks.
The porsche is not that safe or comfort but still it's a porche don4t destroy a masterpiece with V8 LS engine make totaly no sense.
If i ever get a chance to buy a Corvette stingray C7. I'm gonne Swap it with a 6 flatt cilinder engine. Gonne make a video of it how i personaly destroy that ls7 engine And swap it with flat 6. I bet every LS owner from the USA is gonne hate me.
Flat 6s suck. The only problem I see with this is that it should be in the the front way too much weight in the back with that engine and it sounds way better Thant that ol garbage flat 6 will ever sound
Awesome swap, but I bet it's a major pain in the ass working on it. Talk about a TIGHT fit.
work of art, love it
Besides being heavier and potentially even more dangerous than this car already was...it's fucking awesome, just don't corner too fast haha
its lighter...
funny thing is I'm pretty sure Porsche is about to build that flat 8 finally because they're tired of these LS swaps LOL
this is a great project however
EXCELLENT !
now if he was really a true artist, he would make the chevy engine sound like a porsche flat 6.
The Porsche flat 6 sounds terrible. Why would he want to do that?
I bet that 600hp is fun with all the weight in the back hahaha
eargasm wen it fired up
Are those the canted-valve Mast Motorsport heads?
That sounds amazing!
Porsche owner are pulling their fucking hair out at the sight of this car. Personally, I love it.
Umm according to my UPS shipping lable the LS7 is 512 lbs fully dressed +packaging(~30-40lbs) so dry(fully assembled) about 480 lbs. According to Porsche the 3.3 turbo complete is just shy of 530 pounds dry. LS7 = Aluminum block, 3.3 = Iron block. Aluminum block wins. Not to mention vastly higher power levers and more reliable.
Poster... Cheers mate, great conversion. I did a miata swap a while back. Ridiculous.
In southern:
Four twenny seben
Love it. Hail from Alabama
The only issue with the conversion is the Porsche now demands others use its preferred pronouns "they, them."
@GMguy91 inheritaged ;) i once thougt about upgrading the 928 with one of those awesome 4.2 or 5.7 litre v8 made of magnesium and aluminum that audi and bmw makes. super lightweight but triple super expensive and only achievable from the scrapyard sadly. are there any pictures including a documentary of the swapping process? i have no idea what size those ls engines are.
The closest thing i seen to a procharger was the alternator at 0:58.
I'm not crazy about whatever all that shit is in the back seat, but other than that I am impressed.
2300 lbs that's nasty. . . . bet that does wheelies all day. I have a 911 targa I'm debating on doing the same swap.
Wow! If your info is correct thats a power to weight ratio of 3.3 lbs per horsepower! And for less money than a carrera gt!
Now that's how a Porsche should sound
Yep I agree.
I know this is an old video but this is the nicest 911 to date I have ever seen!
Wow, I just realized he turned the plenum around to create a true cold air intake. Nice work 👌🏾
I have a Porsche and a z06 but never thought to combine the two! Now a 911 gt2 engine in a z06 ....nah.
technically it is not an engine swap until you put the porsche engine in the chevy.
That's insane !!! Who would even think if that !?
It might have just a tad hint of understeer now.
LOL
that car is worth a stupid amount of money. its in such good condition
I'm normally not a fan of these types of conversions but this one changed my mind. Nice work Mr.Perry.
LS7 is 480 lbs. According to Porsche the 3.3 turbo complete is just shy of 530 pounds
That thing is amazing!
Do the make a kit to do the swap?
You probably saw the alternator on the lower pass. side.
I love this video, no stupid music, just exhaust notes, and a lumpy idle
And by the way, new Porsches aren't very reliable at all. They say you get what you pay for, but apparently dependability doesn't come with it. Old ones like this are pretty good but the new ones are shit in that department. They've rolled into my place weeks after being bought on numerous occasions.
I don't care if he put an American motor in the car, ITS FASTER! (and lighter than the original)
Yes, a smart one.
Sick
Sounds like an amateur marching band that's "out of cadence".
Sounds awesome.
Can it pop a wheelie?
It sounds like Uncle Jessy's pickup truck now..
well you have found a way to lose value on a 911 turbo didn't know it was possible
Geoff Brousseau at least itll now be able to go to 200,000 miles
Don't worry about the value of the car. He will make that up in the races he wins.
***** you are not the brightest i see.
Considering my tahoe just died. With 295,000 miles and my buddies truck just broke at 265,000 with chevy v8s. Im sure porsches run more than that without ever changing the oil or some bs like that. Again, intellengence isnt your greatest attribute.
***** 500k meters maybe. Not 500k miles. You could argue about a toyota, a volks, a honda, etc about lasting a long time. But you're wasting your time saying that a porsche lasts forever. They blow head gaskets at 100k quite often. They are fast and sound good but not really reliable.
Could you tell me what gearbox he is using please?
WTF.... It's a Porsche, not an american "car thing"... OMG, poor Porsche
+Ottó Garami
I agree, he put a lower quality product in a high quality machine. This how to bastardize a super car.
Yuuuuuukkkkkkk. I'de rather walk.
you clearly know nothing about gm ls series engines, particularly the ls7. do some research before you run your mouth.
wow, if i could have any porsche in the world, this would be the one. that's badass, i'd love to see that beast in action.
A few questions
MPG on highway...gentle driving?
how easy was it to insert the engine?
how easy is it for a chevy trained mechanic to access all parts of the engine?
could any chevy trained mechanic insert this engine into the car?
Do you have to remove the engine for any repairs...like a porsche engine needs to be removed?
What are the maintenance concerns i should know about?
I wanted something like this thats bomb proff...that is it can handle any road / potholes etc?
What suspension do you recommend?
Its not for track racing
Just for driving in the dominican republic oh crappy roads
hope you can help, thanks for your time
i owned Porsche 911 - 991 Generation, I can't drive any other car I sold it to and going to buy doner car 1988 to LS3 swap. The reason is I want to drive it every day without thinking about the maintenance and warranty cost of the new Porsche. Most of Porsche owner they don't drive the car often enjoying looking at it in the garage. That sucks. See how beautiful this car is meant to be driven every day.
That cam.
What year is the body of that porsche? 86-87???
I bought the same Year Porsche about 10 years ago with a Chevy 350 crate motor. Had it shipped from California to sw FL. Never did get it running as someone made an offer I couldn't refuse.
-The only change I would make would be the addition of a small sticker right above the door handle and just below the window trim that said "This car makes FUCK YOU! horsepower!"
'MURICA!! i love my country
Dammit Boy!
