I had an Alpine White 1988 Porsche 944, and it is absolutely my favorite car that I ever owned. Sadly it wasn't the Turbo, but it was such an aesthetically gorgeous car. I bought it used when I was in my early 20's and had it for 10 years before I totaled it. The steering radius was so tight, and precise. I have since owned a Saab 900 convertible, a Dodge Durango, a Cadillac El Dorado, a 2003 500 SL AMG hardtop convertible, Mercedes Benz ML320, a Jeep Cherokee Limited, and now I have a Porsche Boxster S. While the AMG and the Boxster are fast for sure, the 944 was my favorite car that I have ever owned. I just loved the styling and the pop up lights. Maybe someday I'll get a chance to own another one. Great video guys and well done. It's a beauty.
You took a great car and made it greater! A fellow in our PCA San Diego club did the conversion with a base 944 and lost the transaxle immediately, put in a 968 trans which holds it. He had a lot of cooling issues due to the engine taking up the whole bay so airflow through the radiator was very restricted, he put in a custom tank and radiator and has it worked out now. I look forward to seeing how the R888's hold it down, and what size are you using?
944 Turbo transaxle can take more horsepower than you currently are pushing so you can low boost it. There’s 944 owners making 600+ crank horsepower with that transaxle on 2.85/3.0 motors. I wonder why they removed the abs system as it was available on that year most still use the 944 Turbo brakes or switch to 928 or 911 setups and most v8 944’s will use hydroboost for power steering or some will de-power the rack or hunt down the 83 manual NA rack. Any who good looking car, I had two 951’s with over 425hp on the stock motor and trans (m-tune, 80lb injectors, exhaust, larger turbo, fpr etc) they are excellent cars to mod. Considering getting another and doing a v8 swap as well.
My son just got a 83 944. I am arguing with my son he wants to put an LS in it. (I had a supercharged Corvette when he was young I was putting down 650Rwhp) BUT the Porsche is perfect with the red rims nothing is missing. I think it is worth more stock. I only paid $1500 for the 944 :) :) . (friend of mine sold it to him Got the deal of the century) Now I have a lot of people I could help him out with the swap I could even get him a ProCharger for it. BUT I think he should leave it a 944.
if you are on the East Coast and you want to Supercharge it Look at East Coast Supercharging they are in New Jersey. Did great work on my vette but they have also supercharged a smart car lol
Ls swap takes this 165 hp to 440 hp...that car is def death trap for real. I owned one in 1997 haven't thought about that car in 20 years but make no mistake about bnb it I will be doing this swap in the near future.
I have a 88 944 that I swapped a bmw m50 turbo, zf trans and a 210mm diff from a v12 740. Custom drive shaft and axles, I decided to go this route as the original rear transaxle and torque tube weighs as much as a zf and traditional bmw large case diff, roll cage Yada, Yada. 607 hp and not worried about sending original driveline down the street
Procharge it.😆 That would push the h.p. near 500 and you already have good interals. I really believe the original turbo transaxle could handle it. I definitely think you guys should take this car to the next level with either some pressure, or maybe a fogger system.
Awesome sounding! Hey, LS6 engines have a tad more compression and the bottom of the block has passages to allow air to move between cylinders to help with filling cylinders.
Hey guys Those sparco belts look mounted a little low. Y'all look super tall but in a wreck those belts are gonna really really gonna mess your backs up. I could be wrong. Love the car. Sounds awesome.
i got lost ...he didn't bought a full LS engine, but specific parts and they worked as well as the full engine ?...im thinking about swapping my 86 NA 944 and i would love to go his route
really liking this setup! Turbo seems hard to find in my area CA. Would this setup work with 944S? I mean is the tranny and suspension on the S comparible to turbo?
That's all fun and great but when it comes to LS swaps, what nobody ever talks about is how to make the electronics work. What to do for computer, wiring harness, fuel pump and all that fun stuff that usually costs a bundle. So how's that done and what's the cost? Second, what transmission, drive shaft and rear end is in there? and what is the cost for modifying all that?
Good job but do not weld that differential you will hate it . put a real locking differential in don't screw it up. if you really want some fun do like some of the rest of us, explore some of the track events on the road race course near your home. Good luck
Does anyone else gets goosebumps when an engine is reved???? 😍 ( a proper sounding car of course lol)
Under 10k holy $$$$
Boost would be too much. Leave it as is, an under $10K lean and mean budget build.
i was thinking about ls swapping my corvette. what do u think?
VisualAnalog it's a joke 😜
Heresy!
Mog Bros no wtf why would you put a LS on a beautiful JDM Corvette
Needs a rotary.
I’ve heard the stock motor is just as good

Thats the perfect car to put a widebody on and a set of bbs wheels, just dont slam it to the fking floor, the actual height is low enough
That is right
Dacrazy-can gotta have the bbs
dude the point of the 944 was to be a widebody 924
Be careful at the drag strip . You might break the rear end with all the grip. Great video. Amazing fun car
Has the rear end failed yet

I love Porsche and the LS motors so I'm diggin this car so much
Maybe a Procharger/T56/8.8 & DR setup, that would be super dope seeing as it only weighs 2800lbs
Are t56’s feesable in a transaxle?
The best thing about that car is the sound at full throttle!!

My old '85 Vette, would sign-off at 4500r. This thing rips!

I'm currently building my own LS1 944 and I just bought a finished LT4 944
Well balanced n/a is just fine, sounds excellent
Hi guys. So we're do you get the kit for LS swap. Motor mounts etc.
Checkout Renegade Hybrids. Do a web search.
Texas performance is better
What I wanna know is how do you get it to pass state inspection
Had to sell my 944 project. One of my biggest regrets

XS approved
I owned a 1984 NA and loved it. It was the best handling car I've ever owned....period.
JR Garage you are going to buy the demon right?
i hope so!!! haha
😨
What a dope little budget build! That's awesome.
you two are an awesome duo. Do you guys happen to offer the 944 LS swaps as a service?
This is one of my favorite videos of all time.
Procharge it.😆 That would push the h.p. near 500 and you already have good interals. I really believe the original turbo transaxle could handle it. I definitely think you guys should take this car to the next level with either some pressure, or maybe a fogger system.
ellis needs SUPERCHARGER
Would it be easier to do an LS swap in a 944 or a 240SX?
That's cool video editing to make it look like it's two of him.
Definitely need to turbo it
The Car is great! The only thing i dont like about it is the LS. But everyone has his opinion, Nice that you made it for under 10k.
Edit: lime -> like
Awesome sounding! Hey, LS6 engines have a tad more compression and the bottom of the block has passages to allow air to move between cylinders to help with filling cylinders.
huh?
It's 6 years later...still have it?
Damn under 10k. If you can do all the work yourself thats a W for sure. Seems very cheap for a LS engine
what happened to the tesla?
Jairo Terán nothing
Hey guys Those sparco belts look mounted a little low. Y'all look super tall but in a wreck those belts are gonna really really gonna mess your backs up. I could be wrong. Love the car. Sounds awesome.
I bought my for 2300 it is a na but it has a ls3 with a stroker kit superchargered
leroy varela you got pics of this monster 44
Let's see it.
What replacement transmission would you use if I can't find a turbo in good condition
968 trans
Awesome! Sweet 944!
i got lost ...he didn't bought a full LS engine, but specific parts and they worked as well as the full engine ?...im thinking about swapping my 86 NA 944 and i would love to go his route
What’s the exact size of the wheels? And we’re modifications needed for them fit?
change the turbo badge to ls swapped, cool project
really liking this setup! Turbo seems hard to find in my area CA. Would this setup work with 944S? I mean is the tranny and suspension on the S comparible to turbo?
Car sounds glorious.
man you have a great taste for cars man fr
Engine sounds awesome!
If you go supercharged go with centrifical so you don't have to worry about the intake.
My favorite thing about Elias? I wonder what that could be , it is not really a hard question the LS engine
I think you might need a bigger set of seats
What did the original kit cost. You got it almost done for $8000 but what did that guy pay to get it that far.
Does n.a. stand for naturally aspirated
How close are those exhaust pipes to the ground!? I’ll bet they hit everything that sticks up an inch.
I am searching for that sweet front valance. Never seen it before
Who does the editing, and may I ask what software you use?
First from Canada to admire this
Wait so did you swap the whole engine or you just replaced headers manifold exhaust and cam?
would you ever consider buying a diesel truck and building the engine?
Which drive shaft and which gearbox ?
How does one get a kit, what included, and how much is it?
where can you buy the conversion kit?
How did you get the headlights to pop up without turning any lights on
Do you think an 83 944 NA with a super clean body ,below average interior and motor is blown. For 1000 dollars is a good deal ???
Who sells the adapter for the transmission
Awesome ride!
whats the conversion kit or adapter you were talking about
I got 8k for ya. Maybe more if its delivered.
holy cow thats alot of horsepower!

You guys should change the magnaflow muffler to a carven tr muffler
Awesome! Love Porsches. And having a Corvette motor seems allowed to me. Sort of. Amazing power.
Where could I buy the conversion kit?
So..2800lbs means you have a leeway without frying the lil 180hp threshold. I wonder the v8 transmission and rear end layout.
You guys should look into getting a gti or Golf R and make it fly
I just found a 1985 944 porsche only needs breaks and a safety for $4500 canadian! Gonna try to convince me wife!
Im am searching for that front valance ( the metal part underneath the porsche logo) does anybody know what brand it is and where to buy it
What’s the MPG? Is it too bad to daily?
Hi guys I live in Angola-Africa and I need your help for an advise for my porsche 944 engine.
I hope to do this one day. So cool 😎
Is it possible (easy) to install a turbo in a regular 944? And which turbo would be suitable (besides a porsche one)?
Idk man
First video I've seen on this car. Is this a Renegade Hybrids Swap Kit?
Great vid and super car, perfect swap. I want one two now.
Where did you buy the vented header panel from?
Jr garage is a goat 🐐🔥🔥🔥
Deshone is a goat
For my recommendation for boosting Ellis, put a Callaway Supercharger on it, if it will fit that engine :D
Does the LS swap somehow disable the ABS?
What did you do for the drive terrain?
Late 944s have two. The don't hold they are rest. Open the glove box on the lid
Great video!!!
hahaha 400hp on stock 944 rear end... either the rear parts are not stock or their gona break soon
No. The transaxle from the turbo is good for a bit over 500 hp if not abused.
yes put a supercharger on it
Solid vod
Quaife ATB Differential in the back of that IMMEDIATELY! 👍
Where did you get the front lip for it
I love ellis, really makes me want to build one or maybe a late 80s m6
I’m getting a 944 NA can still do an Ls swap?
got insurance on it?
Why no power brakes/steering?
Supercharge it
Why supercharge it when it has a powerful LS swap
@ Over modding and breaking stuff then repeat is good content for research.
What cam was in ellis?!
Good job but do not weld that differential you will hate it . put a real locking differential in don't screw it up. if you really want some fun do like some of the rest of us, explore some of the track events on the road race course near your home. Good luck
