We went to San Luis and they told us that unless we were commercial or selling the truck in Mexico (both with proper documents) that a semi-truck is not allowed in Mexico. Period. And we were denied entry because we tried in San Luis at the commericial port of entry.
@@bigtruckbigtravelswell, you need a different form to temporary import your vehicle to drive it through Mexico, even worse, you need a special licence to drive a Semi truck in Mexico, so that's why they denied you from crossing the boarder, that's why, and even if you managed to cross, you would be stopped at the many importation ports called "aduanas" or "garitas", there you need to present your pediment expedit by the cross boarder agent, and you need to import temporary anything you bring on the truck, i know this because they stopped me on the aduana with my removal, all because i don't had more than the list of things we bring on my truck, and I was on Baja California, inside the country, and still needed to do so

Interesting conversation at the border. Having travelled internationally a lot for work, I've learned a couple things. - don't argue with the folks at border control. - the folks at border control will not typically tell you the "why," just what you can or can't do. Not sure why you want to take your rig into Mexico but good luck.

Next time just take Nogales thru Mariposa Rd. (CMVs Port of Entry) Or San Luis Rio Colorado, which may be safer because you wont have to drive thru Caborca (Famous dangerous town). Its a pain, but no choice.. youll have to calculate a 7 hour trip thru Yuma and San Luis, or a 5 hour thru Nogales, Imuris, Magdalena, Santa Ana, Altar, and Caborca.. TBH it would be much safer in this particular case to go instead to San Carlos thru Nogales.. Plus San Carlos Beaches are more beautiful than Rocky Point's.
Wow, that was a little scary maneuvering there. Sorry things didn't go as planned. Thank heavens you're familiar with alternate locations. Wishing you safe travels

You have to cross that rig through a commercial port of entry, that's what he was trying to tell you, Tijuana, Yuma, Nogales and Laredo TX, are the main commercial crossing points
Good luck! I've watched other full timers in 5th wheels go within this last year and they all had a great time and saw the most beautiful beaches I hope you guys can go!
True...based on what we were told earlier, we felt that we were within the law. But, we weren't so that was the end of that...except we have a new plan now!
Oooo nooo 🫢 really !!!!?? of course we know plus they didn’t deny them. They just told him to go to another cross border where they allow that type of trailers to go through.
Good call! 😇 you guys are awesome and brave! Beautiful rig! I haven’t seen one like that in the US, in Mexico would be the center of attention! Special interest for the bad guys! Too risky! I love Mexico and I fly, I don’t even dare trying to drive there in my little Tacoma truck! Blessings if you do make it! Too bad you didn’t make it to in n out, I noticed your Whataburger cup! Not the same either! Great piece of driving! 👍 Stay safe and happy!
Thanks for watching! Travel to other countries always involves some risk. Much the same as visiting Chicago, Houston or LA but we enjoy the culture and people of Mexico. We're always careful on the road. Thanks
No, that’s not how it works, if cartel steals a pickup is because they can use it for themselves, your rig is not they can use, they told you, those are not for private use in Mexico so they can’t get away with stealing it and driving it around the country. Don’t listen to people that all they know is stories from the media
I think it’s because of weight and size. That route maybe treacherous. I’m a trucker and know there’s plenty of truck traffic that go through Yuma and Laredo
So I just got home and I saw you have another video so I thought maybe it be better to watch it with a Whataburger so I went to get me a “#1 with cheese and some mayo” and I’m now enjoying your video a little better! Thanks for putting up another one! God Bless you both!
I’ll just stay in the USA thank you! Boy that looks scary. Hope you get it if that’s really what you want. We are off to San Diego next week … close to Mexico but won’t be tempted to cross over. Be safe.

The Mexican official said that you could cross at the nogales semi truck point of entry. Don't use the automobile entry your beautiful rig is just too big. Best wishes
That's true but we had never been to Nogales and weren't sure of the roads in Mexico from there to Puerto Penasco. We had to gather our thoughts after being denied.

I retired early, and spent a over a year living in Mexico. There's nothing to be afraid of, every where we went, we felt welcomed and met a lot of expats who live in Mexico full-time. But yes, be aware of your surroundings wherever you are, and don't be an idiot and you'll be fine.
I have trucks worth a lot more then his volvo and Rv and cross all the time and there is no way in Hell that u can cross a CMV into Mx without a Mx Tag unless u going all the way thru Mx with a inbound like to Belize that's how I did it back 20 years but it got harder and I just imported them to Mx but it's not that easy if ur not Mexican same goes to US as Mexican we don't can go further in then what's called comercial zone into to the US like 50 miles
Did you seriously tried to cross the border with a semi on a non comercial point of entry? Also, if i recall correctly, even if you use a commercial point of entry, you wouldn't be able to get across without proper truck documentation for commercial purposes.
The border agent was professional and told you 4 times you couldn't cross there. He was patient and professional. You did ok trying to state your case but bottom line is that rig is considered commercial in Mexico with no exemptions. Had you been allowed entry by mistake or through a bribe, you would have had more problems with officials deeper into Mexico. Would you have been safe? Very likely! The bad guys like to keep a low profile down there too and your rig screams for attention here or there!! Nice rig btw. Enjoy your travels!
Thanks. You are half correct. But Mexico classifies all semi-trucks as commercial, so you have to have the proper documentation. We can't get it because we're a private truck.

So please be careful staying away from the border might be a good idea at this time. PS Someone is looking out for you because this could've ended really bad.

Thank you, Brian. We enjoy the RV Life in all shapes, sizes and challenges it presents. We go into the unknown... after we check it on Google satellite view! 😆
2 years ago my wife and I decided to take a trip to Mexico on a 4500 Ram diesel and they denied us the permits. They said it’s to big plus commercial so no way Jose
Thanks, Brendan. It was stressful but surprising too since we thought we had spoken to the correct individuals at border patrol earlier. Oh well...another day, another plan.
😂😂 On 2:00 when David asks Sondra "what are your thoughts?" The first thing that went through my mind was... There's a song out from the 70's .... JJ Cale - Bringing it back 😂😂 Drive safe, guys.
I love Mexico, have travelled there many times, but over the years sadly things have changed, and not for the better. Crossing the border in your car is one thing, but taking your home with you attracts too much attention of the wrong kind. For what it’s worth, I would avoid Nogales especially. Most of all, I want you to be safe. Take care
Thank you for watching the channel. We're excited to be able to share our journey with you no matter where we go! We do need to spend some time in New Mexico.
Dave and Sondra, it may seem as these comments are coming off as negative, but I really think people are just concerned for your safety. You are both very smart people and we know you are very aware of what you are doing. But gosh, that entry try was stressful! Can’t wait for the next video to see if y’all got in at another entry. As always, another great video! Safe travels! 😎
I think the Mexican military with those large rifles should be on our side of the border keeping everyone back from our border. I think we should learn from their actions.
If you take the cost to replace your unit NEW times 26% I think that is what the Mexican government will charge you if for any reason, theft, it burns up, etc, any reason you do not take it back across the border they will tax you. If it is new or nice and you like it do not take it over the border into Mexico. I am not against traveling to Mexico, just do not be flashy at all like being in the inner city. Take an older vehicle you can resell when you get back. Even people that want to live down there are advised against taking an expensive car across the border to drive, they are told to buy a vehicle there. Not at all saying not to travel there, just need to drive something of less value and stay safe and healthy, I really enjoy your videos. BTW even 1 ton pickups are getting turned away at some border crossings. Had a video pop up in my feed from a channel I do not know a couple weeks ago and they had to turn around with their dually and 5th wheel. I know Mexico wants the RV people to cross and spend money but they are turning back vehicles that get stolen down there to often or even remotely commercial but not being used as commercial.
Hmmm...that's interesting. Maybe Mexico is trying to save us from ourselves so that we have a good experience. Thanks for the insight. We're going to still try...we have a new plan.
Well sometimes it has to do with weight load over the roads or over Bridges and in other countries there are a lot smaller than they are here in certain areas
We think it was more about their regulations but we really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Thanks for being a part of the story.
I was definitely not arguing but I wanted to be sure he understood that we were private and I was hoping that he would have let us pass. He was very clear on the truck issue in Mexico so I did not pursue it but we were told by Mexican Border personnel 2 years prior that our truck would be ok to go into Mexico. The gentleman I was speaking to was military and had different orders than the border security personnel.
I agree with everyone else. No matter which border crossing, you never argue with them. They could have very easily detained you, and searched your vehicles.
You are going to a place where it is safer to be indiscreet. The cops there are mostly crooked and your rig is ridiculously big. If the cartel finds no interest; the cops will find a way to get some $$$$$ from you. They are not pleased with Americans right now. Good luck
Park your rig in Ft. Lauderdale and take a cruise thru the Panama. They make a couple of stops in Mexico, interesting but pretty darn hot! Get off the Cruise Ship in San Diego and fly back to your rig. You can have your cake and eat it too! Too many banditos that would love your truck, contents and worse….. be safe! Besides you can go to In and Outs until you can’t eat anymore…..!
As others have stated it’s not that you’re not allowed to go to Mexico with your truck it’s that you’re in the wrong crossing for the truck that you’re driving
Well... that's true; however, we weren't legal in Mexico because we're not commercial and couldn't get the proper documentation. It would have been messy.
they were looking and taking pictures probably because they had never seen an Rv that big.. not even in the US you see an Rv that big… props to you for wanting to go to mexico and have some nice vacations.
With all the crime that you hear about south of the border I feel that even as a Latino I would prefer to stay in the good old USA. I would be even less likely to do that trip as a gringo traveling in a mansion. You’re brave. Good luck and be careful.
Thank you...and yes, your opinion does give us pause as we don't have the same experience as others which is a great teacher. So "ignorance is bliss" may be what we are experiencing with trying to cross in our home. We have a plan...so we'll see.
Im Mexican let me explain what the military was saying, sonoyita is not equipped to get your RV, into México, you need to get to yuma Arizona, and then cross to sak luis rio Colorado, yoy can go to puerto peñasco form san luis rio Colorado. Your RV is considered a comercial truck in mexico you may need to go though as a comercial truck but you can get though, you just need to go though yuma arizon and then san luis rio Colorado or nogales arizona and then nogales México, if you need help just answered these post
Thank you and what you say is true... the problem is that since Mexico considers us commercial then it's not possible to get proper documentation. Too risky.
You guys didn't understand. You could take that rig to mexico you just couldn't cross through there you had to go to nogales or san Luis Rio Colorado and then head to rocky point
We talked about it and actually talked to them in San Luis where they told us the same thing. Mexico considers an HDT commercial so you must have documentation. We are not commercial so we're not allowed to cross.
Border Information Note: Vehicle permits are not required for Baja, northern Sonora State & Quintana Roo. You cannot get a vehicle permit if you hold Mexican Residente Permanente status, you can if you hold Residente Temporal. Important note (Jun 3, 2016): I am getting reports of people being refused permits for 3/4 ton trucks & up. This is because they are taking the GVWR figure off the registration or door sticker, which is the max loaded weight of the truck & cargo. In these cases the 3500 kg limit is exceeded. Banjercito's own website is contradictory on this subject (see images for downloading below). Problem crossings appear to be the Guatemalan border, El Paso, Laredo and la Paz (ferry from Baja). I have had no reports from Nogales which is my recommended crossing. In the interim, I strongly suggest anyone with a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup, download these files and print them out and I also suggest taking your unloaded truck to a commercial scale and get a print out of its unloaded weight. Ask them to put the VIN number on it if they can. To confuse matters more, the SAT website (they set the laws) states it's 3500 Kg (7710 lbs) cargo capacity. This is NOT GVWR. GVWR is the safe max loaded weight of a truck to where the axles and braking system (whichever is less) can withstand the load. GVWR is the Curb Weight of the truck plus the maximum cargo capacity (including Pasenger weights) set by the manufacturer for safe operation. It is NOT just cargo capacity, as they appear to be interpreting it as. GVW is the weight of a vehicle, loaded or unloaded with cargo, at any given time. GVW is fluid number, GVWR is not. I believe this all boils down to an issue with translation from Spanish into English in Banjercitos documentation. SAT sets the regulations, Banjercito applies them. Update September 2022 Ok here is the latest. This issue is still ongoing. Banjercito showed me a memo stating that SAT now considers GVWR and Cargo Capacity to be treated as the same (It is not). That makes the paragraphs below more or less useless. However, I did find a helpful agent who told me you should do this is you have a 3/4 or 1 ton: 1) Take a photo of the truck hitched to the RV with the front plate clearly showing. Print it out on a full sheet. 2) Only cross at a crossing that has an Aduana office.. (Nogales, Laredo, Mission, La Paz) 3) Try to get the permit in normal fashion . If they won't give it to you try showing them the picture. 4) If still refused, go and see the Aduana, he should inspect your rig and determine it is being used for recreational purpose and provide you with an exemption form banform

Hi folks, all is well that ends well. I salute you both for trying to cross into Mexico. In 2018, we took our kids (3, 5, 7) to visit Ukraine and Russia... took a train all the way from Moscow to Vladivostok (Pacific Ocean), stopping at all major cities along the way. Friends and family thought it was unwise, unsafe, and all that jazz... We had a wonderful time and can't wait to either do the train or maybe RV across Russia. Yes, thank you. San Luis or Nogales can handle commercial trucks. Mexico considers all semi-trucks to be commercial. Since we're not then we can not get the proper documentation.

He denied entry at Lukeville but we went to San Luis and denied entry there since we're not commercial. Mexico considers all semi-trucks to be commercial regardless.
I am kind of glad you were turned away. I have talked to some off-road individuals who race in Baja and San Felipe. They told me, “we were pulled over by police, equipment and tools were taken before they let us go.” Maybe it was for the best.
It was heartbreaking to hear that denial, but thank you for sharing the experience with us. The only thing good about that was making the tight turn. Good luck for next week!
Thank you and that's true. But Mexico classifies our truck as commercial. We're private so we can't get the proper documents to cross in the big rig. Oh well...we'll get down to Baja in our Class C. Gracias.
If I understood this video correctly the beginning and the end were the only new parts, the failure to get in was all from 2022. That was shown in previous videos.
You are correct, Kim. We were setting the stage for next week's video to see if we can cross the border this time (2024) with our new plan. Thanks for watching.
Oh, I see what happened. You were trying to cross at a crossing that is not equipped to check trucks or large vehicles. The other crossings have big xray machines and more people. You need to use a major crossing point.
Yes, he was saying that but also saying that a semi-truck in Mexico is only considered commercial so if I don't have the proper documents the truck could be seized.
I'm mexican and honestly if you enjoy going to mexico make sure to go during vacationing time for the simple fact that you'll be safer maybe this was them telling you not to go cause things are bad down there in sonoyta they were more than likely trying to keep you all safe!
Thank you, Rodrigo, looking back you may be right though I truly think he just couldn't take the rig through that gate. It could fit but they are not trained to accept semi-trucks at Sonoyta.
Just found your channel. Are the axles on the trailer tandem (wheels)? I had a 40’ triple axle and will never own one again. Pure junk. Dual axle and tandem is a proven design and only way I would go again. Nice rig. We are currently living aboard a Kadey Krogen trawler cruising the east coast. Probably do the RV route again the next five years or so.
That's very nice cruising on a Kadey Krogen, great vessel. Yes, our trailer has dual tandem axles on 22.5 tires. It's a SpaceCraft we designed and they built and based on a semi trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. We've thought about doing the Great Loop and Bahamas too. Glad you found us.
We decided to not take Nomad Monster into Mexico. In Canada our Volvo is registered as "Motorhome" and the trailer is registered as "travel trailer", but in Mexico they don't go by registration or current use, they go by what the intended use was when it was manufactured. In Mexico ONLY Mexicans can drive commercial vehicles. So, if you made it past the border and got stopped at the next checkpoint, they would probably seize the truck and leave you with possibly the trailer. If you are lucky, you could hire a Mexican driver to get it back, but not likely. Also, you are only allowed one vehicle - you have three. Truck and trailer can be split between the two of you, but the car is one too many. We have the Volvo, the trailer, the bike and the car... so we cannot go in. Now we have a Jeep, we can park on the US side and make day trips. Good luck with it...
Many travel back and forth with no issues and enjoy it until that one time... I have an extended family member that traveled there for years and years and thought it was the greatest thing. The last trip that they went they came home with an empty toy hauler. All the toys were "impounded or confiscated" what ever they wanted to call it. They even paid the cash they had on hand to keep the RV. They said the Federales watched them play with the toys for a couple of days and didn't say or do anything. Then they showed up and said they weren't allowed to drive them there and just took everything. Expensive nice toys. Different corruption and dangerous unlike this side of the border.

No kidding!! If I had a monster rig like that, there aint NO WAY I'd even consider taking it into Mexico.

When you kept telling him it’s a private truck doesn’t make it all of a sudden legal after he told you multiple times it’s illegal to cross there.
Yes, I couldn’t believe he wouldn’t take no for an answer! They are damn lucky they didn’t get searched and their rig tore completely apart.
I wanted to make sure he understood what we were so that I had no regrets when we turned around. But appreciate your time watching.
I was very professional about it with no emotion. Just simply trying to make sure that there was no misunderstanding.

You have to cross that rig through a commercial port of entry, that's what he was trying to tell you, Tijuana, Yuma, Nogales and Laredo TX, are the main commercial crossing points

No, that’s not how it works, if cartel steals a pickup is because they can use it for themselves, your rig is not they can use, they told you, those are not for private use in Mexico so they can’t get away with stealing it and driving it around the country. Did you seriously tried to cross the border with a semi on a non comercial point of entry? Also, if i recall correctly, even if you use a commercial point of entry, you wouldn't be able to get across without proper truck documentation for commercial purposes.
That is correct... on all points. We now know that Mexico considers all semi-trucks to be commercial.

As always, another great video! Safe travels! 😎
Thank you and appreciate your thoughts on a few of the comments here. I think overall it's just a concern people have for our safety.
I think the Mexican military with those large rifles should be on our side of the border keeping everyone back from our border. I think we should learn from their actions.
They were very firm in their regulations. It was a little unsettling to see all those firearms around on the other side of the border!
LOL
@@bigtruckbigtravels Whatever you do stay safe and healthy. Should take your ford down there it would be easier to travel in.
Well sometimes it has to do with weight load over the roads or over Bridges and in other countries there are a lot smaller than they are here in certain areas
We think it was more about their regulations but we really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Thanks for being a part of the story.
Why did you argue with the guy at the border? He was very clear.

We try to show our travels as they happen. No scripts and no pre-planned story to shoot the video. We just roll with it each day. Thank you very much.
I agree with everyone else. No matter which border crossing, you never argue with them. They could have very easily detained you, and searched your vehicles.
Thank you but I felt like I was very professional and detached emotionally. Just trying to insure there were no misunderstandings.
You are going to a place where it is safer to be indiscreet. The cops there are mostly crooked and your rig is ridiculously big. If the cartel finds no interest; the cops will find a way to get some $$$$$ from you. They are not pleased with Americans right now. Good luck

Border Information
Note: Vehicle permits are not required for Baja, northern Sonora State & Quintana Roo.
Update September 2022
Ok here is the latest. This issue is still ongoing. Banjercito showed me a memo stating that SAT now considers GVWR and Cargo Capacity to be treated as the same (It is not). That makes the paragraphs below more or less useless. However, I did find a helpful agent who told me you should do this is you have a 3/4 or 1 ton:
1) Take a photo of the truck hitched to the RV with the front plate clearly showing. Print it out on a full sheet.
2) Only cross at a crossing that has an Aduana office.. (Nogales, Laredo, Mission, La Paz)
3) Try to get the permit in normal fashion . If they won't give it to you try showing them the picture.
4) If still refused, go and see the Aduana, he should inspect your rig and determine it is being used for recreational purpose and provide you with an exemption form

Ok they said you that you can cross trought to Sonora by San Luis Rio Colorado city and trought Nogales but he said something about the size or the truck for that reason they say the cross must be trought Nogales or Yuma- San Luis Rio. Colorado.
Yes, thank you. San Luis or Nogales can handle commercial trucks. Mexico considers all semi-trucks to be commercial. Since we're not then we can not get the proper documentation.
@@bigtruckbigtravels ohh its a pleasure!! I told it because im from Mexico city and a few years ago i was traveling from Hermosillo Sonora state to Mexico City , we ( my cousin and me ) we were driving trought the 15 highway that cross Sinaloa’s state and we saw like 15 RV like yours on that way, maybe they were driving to Puerto Vallarta or other tourist’s place in another state because they pass Mazatlán, they were coming from us and some of those RV pull a car or suv behind of them.
Around 1987-ish we had a COOL little Fishing Village down by Puerto Peñasco that we visited. ( We are from San Diego. ) We took a Mexican Highway outside of Yuma to head South. We were on the Mainland side of the Gulf across from San Felipe.... Cool old Lighthouse and miles of sand dunes to ride the Quads on.
Going to Mexico in the 80's was SAFE... I'd NEVER go into Mexico today !!!!!!!
El Golfo most likely.
good times! Remember those for sure. Thanks
IF IT IS A RIG THAT IS NOT THE CORRECT ENTRY FOR YOU, SO YOU NEED TO GO THRU A BIGGER PORT OF ENTRY THAT HAS BEEN A RULE FOREVER. So don’t get upset and go to those others port of entry for RIGS GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN
Thank you. That's true. He's telling us to go to a commercial port. The problem is we're not commercial so we can't get documents for a lawful entry. Appreciate your comments. Thanks
Don’t risk going into Mexico it’s not worth it ! There is to much ugliness going on I hope you two reschedule somewhere in the US!
Thanks. We enjoy the culture, food and the people of Mexico. Our experiences have been good South of the Border but it is true you have to be aware of your surroundings. As in a city such as Chicago or Los Angeles there are good parts and bad parts. We always strive to be in the good parts so that our experience is safe and enjoyable. So far we have been successful. Appreciate your comment and your time watching the channel.
Yes i recomend you Haití Gaza ucrane
@alexfranco3879 😆 🤣 Thanks but we're not putting our rig on a container ship!
You were not denied he was trlling you that you cant go through sonoyta with this rig you have to go through san luis rio Colorado or through Nogales to get to Rocky point you can still make thr drive and would recomend san luis rio colorado instead of nogales
That is very true. We have heard similar stories...there is always two sides to any story but it does give you pause for sure. Thanks
I can't believe you really thought it would be ok to go into Mexico with that rig.
We knew lots of RVs crossed here and we're an RV. We didn't realize Mexico has a very strict interpretation of a semi-truck. Thanks
It was heartbreaking to hear that denial, but thank you for sharing the experience with us. The only thing good about that was making the tight turn. Good luck for next week!
Thanks. It was a tight turn for sure. Glad they had the gate open!
From San Luis Rio Colorado you may go to Puerto Peñasco
Every border crossing should have a "denied" turn around that is plenty big for tractor/trailers... You guys are adventurous!
I agree, Steve. Appreciate the comment.
Thanks for sharing 😊😊😊
We really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Thanks for being a part of the story.
1:39 seconds into the video and you described yourself perfectly
😆 sometimes, Juan, ignorance is bliss... and we try to keep a positive outlook. Appreciate your time watching the channel. Gracias.
Thanks. You are correct. Appreciate the professional insight. We were misinformed a few years earlier by their Border Patrol officer.

Wow! That's terrible. It is a different country down there... and we are visitors but what happened to them does sound bad. Thanks for the comments.
The federales .. where just waiting for the "green light"...
great video
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching
Stay safe love ur semi and rv
Thank you. We really enjoy traveling in it.
