Did this recently, boiling for 15 minutes (a light boil) helped even more, and canola oil worked fine + soapy water instead of the grease, which I didn't have. Zip ties and wood setup are a must.
Saved me hours of pain! The actual replacement took no more than 10 minutes. Zip ties idea is genius! I used some flat screwdrivers with masking tape for the tire bars. Thank you!
Your way is my way now too. I did mine in the grass instead of the wood. Worked fine. Got a little clover. Spent about 4 hours last night trying to put a tube and the tire back on before I said "Id rather never do this again" I also go big zipties and 3 harbor freight 24 inch tire irons like you said. Also used trailer axel grease. Only difference is I put the tire in the microwave for 3 one minute segments. Went on like butter. I also used a straight edge screw driver to manuver the final tire alignment. I wiggled the far side and then the side that wasnt seated popped right in. Thank for making the video.
The idea with the zippers is genius!!! i also used some kitchen rope in each groove! that helped me to put my tire on. Instead of two long metal bars, just used 2x 17 key wrenches keeping the end with the knee and leaning with my body for the other two, in the same time. For the last part, to allign, you just use a thicker screwdriver or an imbus key of 6/8 (just twist in there through each hole - easier than hammering). Thanks matey!!!
@@pedrostrik Regular is insane hard as well, i couldnt do it for 2h... Vent is almost impossible to put through the whole... anyways i will switch to solid just so i dont change tire ever again!
Zip ties. It’s all about the zip ties! I spent hours trying! Eventually I found this video but I heated up my tyre in a microwave (800w for 2:30 minutes), and then used a large screwdriver and plenty of WD40 as lube....and zip ties! My god! Zip ties!!!!!!
A car jack or a press and grease works great. centre rim over tire and apply pressure downwards on rim. do not apply pressure to just the middle of the rim it has to be equally distributed around the outer part of the rim. it will pop right on.
Damn thanks so much for this, was able to put on my tire in like 20 minutes (had some troubleshooting) but it’s finally on the rim now. I actually boiled my tire for 20 minutes, which I think made it a bit more bendable, but in the process of trying to push the grooves in after the tire was on I was using the screwdriver like you said leveraging it out and ended up ripping some of the tire lol, but I just moved it the opposite way of how you did and it went in super easily. I messed up but your instructions made the impossible possible haha. Thanks again!!
Things i also found that help: -Put that rim in the freezer! -Needs WAY longer in hot water, Rubber is an insulator, leave it in there for like 30 mins to 1 hour. -Getting the tyre on straight after, long screwdriver in the holes and lever it in. Zip ties were the savior!
I just managed to do it with only 2 dinner knives lol start with putting your foot on one side and just go around sticking a knife in between the rim and tire... took me like 2 minutes to get the tire on. Then you can use the holes in tire to distribute it on rim evenly.
Holy shit, just got it on the front rim without tyre levers and with no damage. Here's how I did it. Put it in a pot of water and boil it until it's been boiling for a few minutes. Put on some gloves. Rub grease around the side of the rim that doesn't have the cable going into it. Get two pieces of wood, 4x2 (100x50) and lay them parallel, then lay the rubber tyre on the two pieces of 4x2, and then put the rim on top of the tyre with one side of the rim going into the tyre, then just pull the fuck out of that tyre until it goes on, using your knee on the rim. I'll do a video once I get another tyre to show you how it's done
I read all the scare stories about fitting these and how it may need two people, etc. I made a little frame like the man above, so the wheels can lie flat on the floor, bought three big tyre levers, worried half the night (ok, not that bit!) and set to this morning. It was a DODDLE. I stuck each tyre in the microwave for FOUR x 1 Minute sessions, noticed the tyre was beginning to smoke and smell,. used petroleum jelly to lubricate the wheel rims and the whole contact area of the tyre - it instantly liquified on contact(!) and pushed the solid tyre onto the wheel BY HAND! no tyre levers, nothing. Then I used a screwdriver in the sidewall holes of the tyre to make sure it was seating in the rims properly. The difficult bit was getting the old tyres off! Not a problem next time - I'll saw them off with a hacksaw! Don't be intimidated by what you read. If you heat the tyre enough (use gloves to hold it. It will be very hot.) and make sure everything is slippery, it's a dream.
I freaking did it! Boiled tyre for 5 min, used 2 zip ties, table knife(died in a process), crowbar and old towel to protect my knee. Felt like giving birth though :D
Went to a bike repair shop - said they don't know how to mount it and they want to see if anyone can mount this tyre. Went to a car mechanic shop they also can't fit it... TH-cam knows. Brilliant!
Thanks man! I didn't have the big pry bar, used a combo of three flat head screw drivers. Didn't have grease, used lube; plenty on hand(pun intended). Still took two of us, one to hold/secure, one to pry. I also tried heating the tire in a mini oven at 95deg C, fuck knows what that is in F, but it didn't help. Big thick cable ties and just remember to keep tighnignt them every time you get a little bit more over the rim. Thanks again! The ride quality is absolute shit now, can't recommend unless you NEED them for off-road riding.
Here is my step by step guide to change it into a solid tyre while keeping your sanity intact. Start with removing the red strips on each side, unscrew the two screws on each side, using the proper tool unscrew both bolts on each side, the wheel should easily slide off now. (Keep everything in a bowl so you don't lose any of the bolts). Completely deflate the tire, using either spoons or screwdrivers start by wedging out the tyre Off the rim, Put a pot on the stove mix salt and water and put the tire in (salt increases the boiling point of water), Leave the tire in there for 30 minutes to soften up. As the water boils, start applying Vasoline all around the ridge of the rim and apply a lubricant like wd-40 or oil over the Vasoline. Using a double layer of gloves quickly take out the tire from the pot and push a bit of it onto the rim, Using a screwdriver wedge it into place and hold it into the position, Using your foot push it round onto the rim and as you secure it into place with a screwdriver keep moving on round the rim( be sure to be quick so you don't lose heat and flexibility), You should now be able to push the rim onto the wheel using your foot, this should take roughly 5 mins(haha not done yet tho) Using screwdrivers again fit the tire properly onto the rim by putting screwdrivers in between the rim and the tire, keep going around the rim and securing the screwdrivers by getting someone to hold them for you.(this is why u should put vaseline inside the rim so that you're able to easily slip the tyre onto the rim), now slide the fully assembled tyre onto the body of the scooter and put back the screws. There you have it.
You only need cable ties if doing it by yourself. Me and the Mrs did it by boiling for 20 mins and using WD40 around the rim and tire and levering it on and holding in place
To get the tyre on the rim straight at the end. Just put a screw driver through the holes and twist the tyre. That's the easy part. The hard part was getting it over the rim.
Dude this video was actually so helpful. I sat there like an idiot trying to muscle it on. Then i learned that you had to boil it and with the help of some baby shampoo it slid right on... kinda
every single video i see of people doing this they try and push the tire bare handed onto the rim, instead of just putting the tire on a shallow bath of soap and instead put the rim on top and have a big flat piece of wood on the rim and just stand on the piece of wood.. flops right on..
I’m switching to airless tire because my rear wheel keeps popping. It blows because the heat generated by the motor degrades the rubber weld joints on the inner tube and then the weakened tube can’t handle the pressure. These are NOT puncture flats or abrasion flats. The inner tube is coated in talcum powder before I install it. Since heat is used to make the solid wheel pliable enough to get onto the rim I worry that the same heat created by the motor would cause the tire to loosen its grip relative to the hub and start slipping. That concern increases with the use of a grease that undoubtedly gets between the tire and the hub. Are there any concerns about relative movement between tire and rim when you factor in grease and heat during use?
Hi, After taking a (first !) longer ride with this electric scooter I managed to puncture the back tyre (inner tube) like 2 times. 😒😞 I patched the 2 holes successfully though. Getting the outer rubber coat (tyre) off the wheel was hard enough but putting everything back together was something else. 😥😠 I had to use quite an amount of vaseline to lubricate the right sections of the wheel & tyre. A blowdryer/hairdryer was needed too (to soften the tyre a bit). 😕🤕 Good thing I removed the brake disc before assembling the tyre, inner tube & wheel back together. Because you can fairly easily deform it. So that would be my advice too. 🙄 Best Regards,
Thanks, great video. For the last part (centering the tire on the rim), I was able to do it by supporting the rim on two pieces of wood, as you do, then laying a short 2x4 on edge on the side of the tire, right next to the rim, and pounding it with a 2lb hammer.
I have few suggestions. 1. make thick solution out of ordinary soup(almost gel like) 2. Use brush to smear all the rim and the tire before you attempt even doing this. 3. Prepare your straps beforehand as well. It still will be tough job but it will be significantly better than this
Zip ties and one longer tire leaver is all you need. No way to get it on with those shorter bicycle leavers. I didn't use boiling water or microwave. I installed the solid tire that is more rugged looking.

No sweet, really! PS. No need to disassemble the braking disk either. Keep it upper side.

We've found Hulk bois
This is how we out road bike tyres on. I've been using zip ties for many, many years. It's the only way when tyres are the same size as the rim or a few mm less than the rim. It's a bitch.
it's took me 4 hours to do this..
made a big difference with 5 min boiling and 1min in microwave. Still you had to use force but much less.
I found a solution if you get the 10 inch tire upgrade they are way easier to change then the stock ones.
I used two tyre irons and 2 extra hands instead of zip ties.
